I think his question was more on how you get +46 stealth.
Easy. Put 11 Skill points per level into stealth. Add +2 racial bonus for goblin.
I'm assuming this isn't a serious reply.
Yeah. He forgot the +4 for being small size.
And the +3 for class skill. Sorry, my bad.

And if he's that focused on stealth he'll have Skill Focus so there's another +3. Or would it be +6 since he's got over 10 ranks starting from level 1?

EDIT: Seriously though, how'd the OP get +46 at level 4?

Liberty's Edge

I just got this awesome visual of how Dwarves make stone plate mail.

How about a lot of racial/cultural weapons, similar to how the Thrikreen of Darksun had the Gythka, Chatkcha, Kyorchka, Ko, Lajav, and the Zerka. That sort of racially devised uniqueness would add a huge level of coolness to the game. It would alos add another measure to differentiate between being human and non-human.

This, seeing as how just about every race treats a weapon with the race's name in it as martial but there's only a handful of racially named weapons.

Liberty's Edge

Correct.

Base armor cost+ 150 for masterwork+ 4000 for enchantment= +2 armor

Yea, but Demon Bane sounds cooler.

Liberty's Edge

Base masterwork cost + 8000 for enhancement.

So for example, a +1 Longsword of Demon Bane would cost 8315 gp.

The bonus to hit would be +3 as it is a +1 sword and the Bane property adds +2 to hit against the designated foe.

Liberty's Edge

Exactly, I don't mind dealing with facing. Seems more in-depth to me and since 3.0 and up are based around the miniatures game I'd think facing would have more to do with the game. But that's what houserules are for.

Liberty's Edge

Determine how long it takes for the walls to shift again. I'd try to keep it to a low number like five rounds. Everyone rolls initiative including the walls. Keep actions limited to movement and skill checks for the PC's.

Some example checks could be:
Duneoneering- party movement rate temporarily doubled for one round
Perception- provides a +2 bonus to PC reflex saves to get across before the wall shifts
Disable Device- delay a 1d4 round extension before the walls shift (a bad roll could set it off imediately)

Don't feel limited to those either. Make your players think. Let them figure out a way to use the skills they have available and set a standard DC for all checks depending on the level of the game.

This of course is just how I've done it, and it seemed to run smoothly for my group.

Ha ha, nice. I do think that most DM would make it(the arrow) break if you were to try that loop-hole though.

I have a possible munchkin trick I thought of a while back though, even though it requires higher levels.

Called, but not summoned creatures can take things with them.
You call a creature than can swallow hole. Once it swallows someone you dismiss it. In theory the swallowed person should be taken along for the ride.

I'd allow this. It's creative, and I like to reward my players for being creative.

Liberty's Edge

I'd allow it. But some people might argue that an arrow isn't an improvised weapon since RAW says "Improvised Weapons: Sometimes objects not crafted to be weapons nonetheless see use in combat." and and an arrow is in fact already a weapon.

As for the arrow breaking, IDK. The arrow does damage but doesn't break for Stabbing Shot so I could see the argument for both sides.

Side Note:
I'm not a fan of the descriptive text of Stabbing shot. I picture the LOTR scene when Legolas actually stabs an Uruk-Hai with his arrow then fires the same arrow into the Uruk right behind the one he stabbed. Totally awesome IMO.

*EDIT*Nevermind my comment about arrows not being improvised weapons. I'm tired, and at work which makes for a bad combination while posting.

Liberty's Edge

That works. However, the OP is talking about wasting skill points on Perception when there are other more flavorful skills out there. And thus, how to fix that.

Liberty's Edge

Maybe. But it doesn't account for those player's who like to run a dex based fighter now and then.

The only thing wrong with it not being a skill point is that it you wouldn't get better at it as you level. You could add a bonus of half your character level (minimum +1) or even equal to CL to emulate the perception skill.

Liberty's Edge

I'd say Inquisitor and Cavalier (Order of the Lion).

TWF for the Inquisitor IMO. Sword and shield for the Cavalier.

Liberty's Edge

I like your idea. I've always hated how the most combat oriented class in the game is often blind to what's happening around them.

Liberty's Edge

Honestly, what does it matter how I word my response? You letting everyone know that a particular phrase annoys you could, in fact, be considered a "waste of space".

Judging by a lot of posts on these forums, a lot of people need to reread rule 0. If everyone truely understood rule 0 there wouldn't be so many questions about "why did my GM do this?".

PS: Saying

wraithstrike wrote:

I hate to complain but ....

Is the same thing as saying "I'm sorry but..."

Liberty's Edge

Tragically, we'll never know the GM's reasoning for his decision, unless of course he gets on here and tell's us why. I also like it when players point out something they think I'm doing wrong, however I retain the right to slap them with rule 0 if it get's out of hand.

PS: It's a figure of speech. I don't care that it annoys you. And what if the OP or other's reading this thread had never heard of rule 0 and that it was actually printed in the book?

Liberty's Edge

I'm sorry but someone has to point out rule 0.

Quote:
The Most Important Rule
The rules in this book are here to help you breathe life into your characters and the world they explore. While they are designed to make your game easy and exciting, you might find that some of them do not suit the style of play that your gaming group enjoys. Remember that these rules are yours. You can change them to fit your needs. Most Game Masters have a number of “house rules” that they use in their games. The Game Master and players should always discuss any rules changes to make sure that everyone understands how the game will be played. Although the Game Master is the final arbiter of the rules, the Pathfinder RPG is a shared experience, and all of the players should contribute their thoughts when the rules are in doubt.

Emphasis mine.

Now, that being said, I agree with those of you who say it first targets your foes and then anyone or anything that then enters the area. I do applaud the OP for not ruining ambiance for the sake of a rules question. However, since the GM couldn't be convinced later on, then then you should adhere to his ruling.

why is it not possible to re-load a sling while running? this mechanic makes no logical sense. Is this a design oversight?

Why is it not possible to reload a crossbow while running as well? Because running is a full round action, and reloading some missile weapons takes a move action (or more, in the case of heavy crossbows). Is this a design oversight? One would hope not as it's fairly explicitly stated, so one should assume the designers understood its implications. Is it unrealistic? I guess that's a matter of opinion. Mine is "no". Not sure where logic enters into it.

Zo

Having fired real crossbows before, both ligh and heavy, I can tell you that it's near impossible to load on one the run. A hand crossbow is a different story, and same with a sling. My house rule for both is that as part of a move action you can load a hand crossbow or sling. So take your 30 foot move while reloading and fire away. I also rule that Rapid Reload can apply to the sling as well.

For an abstract system what do you expect though?

Anarchic? You must be mixing RIFTS with Pathfinder.

Keep your RIFTS out of my Pathfinder!

I actually like RIFTS so no offense intended.

Liberty's Edge

I think the OP meant lack of firearms in general. It only provides two.

Firewrath, it's probably a good guess that the reason they only put the pistol and musket into the playtest is because those are the only options for a first level gunslinger and this is, after all, just the playtest.

When the book comes out it'll probably have the rest of the guns statted out in the new equipment section.

Liberty's Edge

Next time try just Paizo, or Pathfinder RPG. Pathfinder PRD works also, it'll take you directly to the reference document.

Also, you need to use a monk weapon to employ Flurry of Blows.

IMO, make it a pure fighter and stick to the core version. Weapon and armor training are awesome and provide huge benefits.

Liberty's Edge

Good Role-playing?

Liberty's Edge

I believe his plan is to use intimidate to enable sneak attack.

Though my personal choice would be to choose a single class and stick with it. You can go pure fighter or pure rogue and make a good TWF. Grab up combat expertise and improved feint to get in sneak attacks in which case you'd need bluff not intimidate.

Pure fighter will hit more often thus pretty much equalizing damage dealt. If you go with a heavy two handed weapon build like weilding a bastard sword two-handed and make it keen you'll do tons of damage because of all the criticals you'll get.

TWF duel weild Rapiers and at BAB +8 pick up improved critical and it gets crazy.

Most of all...have fun with it. Optimising can be fun at times but it's not always. My favorite character is a human fighter. He's a spear+shield fighter. I even passed up a masterwork greataxe at first level because it just wasn't his style. Now he's level 4 (slow progression and poor work schedules) with a celestial adamantine spear +1. Good RPing landed me that. (Celestial adamantine is a houserule for us, it counts as good aligned for DR).

I'm all for flavor and thankfully so is the group I play with.

Liberty's Edge

My understanding is that it gives the sorcerer one extra spell slot of any available level. However, the spell must be one he/she already knows.

I agree with Aris that obtaining a familiar via the arcane bloodline would be more beneficial.
