Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

As much as it pains me to do so, I'd like to cancel my Pathfinder Battles subscription. I've received an email notifying me that my case will ship soon and so I'm not sure if it's too late for me to actually cancel with regard to the Heroes & Monsters case.

Does anyone have any plans to tweet news coming out of GenCon? Any Twitter accounts to keep an eye out for for updates about Paizo and Pathfinder (and anything else related to GenRon really)?

Fellow Pathfinder fans,

As mentioned in THIS thread, I'm currently in the process of writing a fansite for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. The site is coming along fine and I expect to be able to put a version of the site online a month from now.

That said, I need some content for the site. I've written some stuff myself (mainly articles and NPCs) and have more on my todo list, but since the whole purpose of the site is to be a repository of Pathfinder material that everyone can contribute to, I'd like to know if any of my fellow Pathfinder fans are interested in contributing with some material for the site.

Here's what I'm looking for:
NPCs written for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting. I'm looking for NPCs of all CR ranges that people have written or plan to write either for the Pathfinder adventure paths or for the Pathfinder campaign setting in general. Ideally the NPCs will be presented with a standard stat block and some fluff.

Game mechanics written for the setting. If you've written any game mechanics, whether they be feats, classes, archetypes, magic items, spells, monsters, monster templates, haunts, traps, poisons, rage powers, or what have you, and you'd like to share them with your fellow Pathfinder fans, send them to the Pathfinder Repository.

Adventures written for the setting. I'll accept hooks (please provide more than just one), side quests, and full adventures of all sizes and level ranges.

Articles written for the setting. These can be writeups of organizations or locations, essays or treatises on everything that has to do with the Pathfinder setting, advice on how to run a certain adventure path or whatever else might fit as an article.

I do have some requirements that must be met:
1) The entry must be for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting.
2) Any game mechanics included must be written for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting.
3) Please make sure that your entry complies with the Community Use Policy.

If you're interested in helping out, you can send your material to: submissions@pathrep.com. If you do send something, please include the following in the mail:

Your full name
Desired handle, if any (if you don't provide a desired handle, your regular name will be used)
Email addy/public/not public
Entry as an attachment (.doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx)
Feedback/rating welcome/not welcome

I look forward to reading and posting your submissions!

Seriously Daniel, Bjarke, Mads, Morten, and Michelle, stay out! You'll get your own journal soon enough.

JOURNAL
The heroes arrived at the sleepy farming community of Ravengro as the sun settled, summoned to the hamlet by Kendra Lorrimor, daughter of the late Professor Petros Lorrimor, a man with whom the heroes had had extensive dealings in the past. Each had received a letter explaining that the professor had passed away and that they were invited to the funeral and the reading of the professor’s will. As they arrived, each hero was greeted by Ms Lorrimor who thanked them for coming.

Shortly after the last person had arrived, the funeral procession began. The heroes had all agreed to be pallbearers. As they and a dozen other people, including priest of Pharsma Father Grimburrow (who chanted prayers to Pharasma in a subdued voice), councilmen Vashian Hearthmount and Gharen Muricar, tavernkeeper Zokar Elkarid, and apothecary Jominda Fallenbridge, entered the Restlands, they were stopped by a group of villagers all carrying makeshift weapons (hammers, pitchforks, etc.). The leader of the group, an elderly man whose name the heroes later discovered was Gibs Hephenus, addressed the funeral procession, claiming that the villagers had decided they would not allow the late professor to be buried in the Restlands as he was a suspected necromancer. Kendra, appalled by the accusation and the rude interruption, argued against the accusations.

What should have been a peaceful final farewell to Professor Petros Lorrimor became anything but when Zirul tried to talk some sense into the villagers. Enraged by the stranger’s words, the villagers attacked the funeral procession. In an effort to get away from the violence, Zirul released his hold on the coffin and dashed to the side, leaving his fellow pallbearers to handle the advancing thugs AND scramble to ensure that the coffin would not fall to the ground. The pallbearers succeeded in the latter as they managed to put the coffin down on the ground under a barrage of swings and stabs. Cordelia, the young druid, was not one to let the thugs ruin the funeral. Calling on the forces of nature, she called vines and long grass from the ground, the plants enveloping the legs of the thugs. Spell cast, she gave the thugs a scathing reprimand and they ceased their attacks, ashamed of their actions and somewhat afraid of the power of her mystical powers.

Father Grimburrow followed up on Cordelia’s reprimand, demanding that the thugs make their way to the town sheriff and let him decide their punishment. He then apologized to the heroes and to Kendra for the unacceptable behavior of his fellow Ravengrovians and the funeral procession continued.

At the grave site, each person gave a minor speech, recalling their relationships with the late professor. That’s when Scar made a strange discovery. There were no rotting scents surrounding the coffin as there should be. Leaning closer and putting a knee to the ground, the Pharasman tried again, disturbed by the lack of rot and the possible reasons for it. Surprised by the ranger’s actions, Father Grimburrow approached him and asked what he was doing. When Scar explained and added his suspicion that all was not right with the coffin and its contents, Father Grimburrow assured him that all was as it should be, that extensive rites had been performed over the body to ensure that decomposition would not happen until the coffin had been buried.

To be continued…

GM'S NOTES
This was a relatively short session as other matters had to be dealt with prior to kick-off, including the creation of each character in Hero lab.

Having read about Canterwall in Rule of Fear, I decided to use the mist a lot, describing it a couple of times during the session (when the heroes first arrived in Ravengro and again during the walk up to the grave site). I think it worked fairly well as an atmospheric tool.

I also made an effort to describe to the players how the villagers were far from ecstatic that they'd arrived with men scowling at them, women ushering children into the imagined safety of their homes, and so forth. Really, the only friendly person the characters met in the first session was Kendra (and, to some extent, Father Grimburrow).

As for the incident during the procession to the grave site, I felt that the druid’s actions, and the fact that the heroes managed to hold onto the coffin, deserved a reward and so they were given the Trust Point and XP for the encounter.

Scar’s discovery that the usual smell of rot was not present was a result of the Scent feat and the lycanthrope blood running through his veins (yes, he has both vampiric AND lycanthropic ancestors). The player chose to go with the Shapeshifter archetype. The Scent feat would come into play in the next session as well. More on that later.

A couple of years ago, I started working on a fansite for the Pathfinder campaign setting. For various reasons the project didn't get very far. I find myself having the time to dedicate to a Pathfinder fansite and I'm still very keen on the idea.

My plan is to create a place for setting-specific fan material, either for adventure paths (side treks, additional NPCs, what have) or for the setting as a whole. It'll contain both crunch and fluff as well as (I hope) modules.

My question to you guys is, is there any interest in such a site? Do you guys want a site where you can find material for the Pathfinder campaign setting and where you can submit your own material, sharing your work with your fellow GMs?

If there's an interest, is there anything you'd like to see on the site? Any specific features?

Hey there,

I posted a thread in the Paizo Products section earlier tonight (the thread was named Artwork Posters), asking about the possibility of purchasing posters/prints of Paizo artwork at some point in the future. I saw the thread posted and now it's gone.

So my question is, bug or deliberate deletion?

This may have been asked and answered in another thread but I'm a bit short on time at the moment so I'll take the liberty of asking it here as well.

Is there any possibility that we might be able to purchase posters or prints of the artwork used in Pathfinder products at some point in the future? I know framed posters/prints of the Tomb of the Iron Medusa cover art or Craig Spearing's opening funeral procession piece for Carrion Crown would look mighty sweet in any gaming den. :)

A question for anyone who may own one of these bags: How many dice sets can it contain?

Okay so I'm not sure I get how this works. The magus casts a touch spell, intending to make use of the spellstrike ability. Does he then make a regular melee attack against an opponent's AC, adding the effects of the touch spell? Or does he roll a touch attack and, if successful, add the weapon's damage?

Wrapping my head around this is a bit hard as the parameters for using a touch and for using a weapon are different. One merely needs to touch an opponent to succeed while the other needs to penetrate any defenses (armor, etc.) the opponent may have.

During tonight's game session, one of my players used a rather deadly combination of Power Attack/Cleave in the same round.

After the session ended, one of the other players expressed doubts about the legality of using two feats in one round.

I'm ashamed to admit that I don't know the answer to that question. As per the RAW, is it possible to use Power Attack and Cleave in the same round or are characters limited to one feat in a round?

As the title implies, what's the official name of the campaign setting? I've always assumed it's Pathfinder Chronicles but a friend of mine keeps telling me it's just Pathfinder...

I've been skimming the How to Make Weapon Finesse Viable thread (reading it in detail would make my head hurt) and I'm now thoroughly confused about how the feat works. As I understand it, a character having the Weapon Finesse feat replaces his Str with Dex modifier for attack rolls. Does this also mean that he does NOT apply his Str modifier to damage?

Hey there,

I'm currently working on outlines for a series of adventures I want to write, and some of the encounters involve aerial combat, specifically involving dragons.

Are there any rules for aerial combat or does the Fly skill cover aerial combat adequately? I've read the description of the Fly skill, of course, but I'm wondering if any of you guys have had any actual experience with the Fly skill as part of aerial combat.

Hullo,

When viewing paizo.com in IE8 (both with and without compatibility mode on), I get one of those nasty error dialog boxes, telling me there's an error in line 10. The error is as follows:

"'top' is null or not an object"

Since this seems to an issue with autocomplete functionality (according to the debugging tool in IE8), I assume it's a problem related to your search control.

I don't get any error messages in Opera 10.51, Firefox 3.6.3, and Google Chrome 4.1.249.1059, but the autocomplete functionality isn't there.

In case you can use this for some reason, I tested this on a machine running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

As you may have guessed, this thread is similar in nature to the one dedicated to the Pathfinder RPG. What's different about this one is that we'll be speculating wildly about the Pathfinder Chronicles campaign setting itself and not the rules stuff.

I'll go first with my list of things I *think* we'll see in 2011.

Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting World Guide - Tian Xia: I'm fairly certain 2011 is the year we'll see an adventure path set in Tian Xia and as such it would make sense for Paizo to publish a World Guide to go along with such an adventure path.

Book of the Damned Vol. III: Daemons: Princes of Darkness came out last year and Lords of Chaos is set to be released this year so I'm willing to bet my entire RPG collection (well, maybe not) that we'll see the third volume in the Book of the Damned series in 2011, this time focusing on daemons.

Classic Fey Revisited: Well it's about time, isn't it?

Guide to the Mendevian Crusades: I admit this is just me *hoping* we'll see a Pathfinder Chronicles book detailing the fight against the demonic hordes of the Worldwound. Possibly to be released along with an adventure path focusing on that conflict? A guy can dream, can't he?

So, what do you guys think we'll see in 2011?

Hey there,

The title says it all, really. I'd like to hear some opinions on why epic level play a la Epic Level Handbook is broken. I ask because I've never bothered with epic-level games myself and now a player of mine is asking if I'll run an epic-level game.

I've heard a lot of people say the rules are broken but I haven't heard any specifics about what it is about Epic Level Handbook that's broken.

So yeah, what's your opinion on the matter?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

I ordered the two most recent installments of the Pathfinder Society scenarios. The order went through and yet the PDFs still haven't appeared in my My Downloads page.

Is this an error or have I missed something?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

I've been reading through Book of the Damned Vol. I: Princes of Darkness (Hell is cool again!) and there's one thing I've been wondering about throughout the book - unique devils. Now, the book mentions somewhere that the infernal nobility (such as the Infernal Dukes and the Whore Queens) are unique devils and it seems to be implied (to me at least) that the only unique devils in Hell are either dukes, whore queens, or archfiends.

Is that a correct interpretation?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Okay, so during our talks regarding the manifestation of my AGCB-related curse, Nick Logue was kind enough to mention that, if I hadn't done so already, I should definitely read Malleus Maleficarum (the nature of my curse has to do with Mendevian inquisitions).

My question to you guys is, what oher Real-World resources would you recommend I get a hold of for my Pathfinder Chronicles games? I'm looking for anything concerning mythology, folklore, real-world events (such as the inquisitions), stuff about monsters (demons, devils, vampires, dragons, etc. etc.), and just about anything else that might enhance my GMing.

Also, what resources have you guys at Paizo used for your research?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Okay, so I've been wondering about this for quite a while, coming up with some possible scenarios. However, I'm curious if anything official exists that might answer my question.

We know that the wardstones prevent the demons of the Worldwound from entering Mendev. But what about other neighboring nations? What prevents the demonic hordes from invading Ustalav, Numeria, and other nations?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Greetings,

I'm working on a products section for my fansite, showcasing the various Pathfinder products. Am I allowed to resize cover images for use as thumbnails?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber; GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Hullo!

I've recently started constructing a fansite for the pathfinder franchise. Heavily inspired by the phenomenal Dragonlance Nexus, the goal of this site, which I've tentatively named Pathstrider, is to become a home for fans of the Pathfinder setting and a place where we can all share articles, adventures, game mechanics, etc. etc. etc. with each other.

The site is still in its infancy and I've barely started on design. This is where you guys come in. Naturally, the site is going to contain news about the Pathfinder setting and, hopefully, about the Pathfinder community. It'll also feature articles, game mechanics, adventures, etc. But what else would you like to see on a Pathfinder fansite? How would you like to see the gaming section set up?

The purpose of the site is to help the Pathfinder community grow and to provide players and DMs alike with tons of material to use in their games. Naturally, I can't do this alone. I have a Real Life and also contribute to the Dragonlance community. Therefore, this site is going to rely heavily on user participation. I'll write stuff but I'm hoping that it'll be a community project, once the site goes live.

Anyway, if you have any ideas about design, layout, functionality, features, etc. etc. etc., please let me know!

Thanks!
