I just received a link to the Razor Coast survey. I'm not seeing an option to add the Hero Lab file(s). Is that an error or did I miss something regarding the Hero Lab stuff?

I think the following snippet from the product description is key to answering your question:

Product description wrote:
...or will their failure plunge Golarion into a new ice age ruled by the Witch Queen of Irrisen?

Even if Baba Yaga is an evil evil crone, being evil doesn't necessarily mean yearning for chaos and destruction (which would be the result of a sudden world-spanning ice age). At least not unless it's on her terms and not some upstart who thinks she can outmaneuver the Queen of Witches.

That's my theory, at least. :)

If a monster is open content (I'm not sure if that's the case here as I don't own the book yet), Paizo will make use of it if it makes sense for them to do so in an adventure path. They've done so with other open source critters found in such tomes as the Advanced Bestiary by Green Ronin and the Tome of Horrors by Necromancer Games/Frog God Games.

Also, since the two critters you mentioned have been drawn from Real Life mythology, there's no reason to think Paizo won't create their own versions of the mythological creatures for their own games if they haven't already, assuming of course that there's an interest among the Paizonians in creating the monster for the Pathfinder RPG or the Pathfinder campaign setting.

Dark Archive

That has been the case for Skull & Shackles and Shattered Star. I hope it's the case for Reign of Winter as well as it's a useful feature.

Theoretically the modules are released to be released every two months. Obviously that's not the case and I think that's part of the reason why Paizo's decided to move them to a quarterly release schedule, increasing the page count somewhat for each module.

$84 a year? For the amount I'd use it, not hugely attractive...

The way I read your post that I initially quoted, you were making a generalization among all non-business users and that's why I wrote my own post. While it may not be attractively priced for you and the amount you'd use the service, it's a very good deal for me and the amount I use the service. If the purpose of your post wasn't to generalize, my apologies for reading your post wrong. :)

...and that doesn't even get into the security worries.

Yes, there are security worries involved but the same can be said about any kind of storage. In the last year, three of my friends have been victims of burglary and they've all lost hardware on which personal and sensitive data was stored.

That said, you're right about security, and it's something I'm concerned about as well when using any cloud storage service (I've tried a couple of services so far). It's also why I don't store super sensitive information (such as material that operates under an NDA or some such). I use it primarily to store gaming material I write for my own games and similar non-sensitive material. And it's still a good deal for me as an individual.

Quote:
Plus there's always the worry of getting one of those corporate boilerplates about how they're either closing their service or jacking their rates.

That's a worry with all things, though, isn't it? Paizo recently raised the price on some of their product lines and while Pathfinder products and cloud storage aren't the same thing, it's still a concern for all industries. I imagine companies offering cloud storage services have increasing costs as companies in all industries do as time rolls on.

R_Chance wrote:
Why not just buy a portable hard drive? For that ($84) you could have a terrabyte WD with USB 3.0. I have backup copies on my Laptop, and keep another backup on my portable HD.

I do pretty much the exact same thing, with the slight twist that I use my cloud storage service to synchronize between my laptop and my desktop. I do have a 3TB WD (USB 2, sadly) on which I have another backup. So basically a cloud/hardware combo. I've had enough bad experiences with no backup as well as hardware failures that I'm not taking any chances :)

It boggles the mind to consider the journey that has been Razor Coast. A journey of troubled waters that has now ended with our arrival in the calm waters of Port Shaw. As someone who preordered the original offering and who followed the progress both on the Sinister Adventures forums and here on paizo.com, I'm absolutely thrilled to see this realized finally.

I can only imagine the burden that has been removed from Nick Logue's shoulders now and that thought is heartening. Nick, I hope the success of this Kickstarter sees your creative flame reignited and that we'll see your name on the covers of many adventures in the future. You're a good man and an amazing game design talent.

I raise my glass to toast to the success of this Kickstarter. To everyone from Frog God Games. To Lou. To Knick. And to all of my fellow gamers who helped make this finally happen. I cannot wait until Razor Coast stands on my 3PP shelf of gaming goodness and I can finally release the horrors of Dajobas upon my poor poor players.

That does seem to be the case here as a readthrough of the blurb on the back cover reveals that this book is a companion to the Core Rulebook and no additional source is mentioned.

If Paizo didn't make that promise, did they at least indicate that some PDFs may become unavailable preventing future download and that you should backup your files? If not (and I don't see such a statement / suggestion on the Downloads store page even after WotC pulled their PDFs) then perhaps Paizo should have done.

To address this question, I'm 98% certain that Paizo did notify us that they'd have to shut down access to all PDFs released by Wizards of the Coast, with the notable exception of the magazines. I'm also 98% certain that they urged us to download any PDFs we might have purchased before the cut-off date. I say 98% because I don't have a direct source (link or quote) so I'm going by memory.

Is there any chance that we might see those cultists as a web enhancement/blog post after the book's release?

See, I'm in the "NPC statblocks have no place in what is supposed to be a Bestiary section" camp. 50/50 is way too high for my tastes. Just race/class and maybe listing a few key pieces of equipment is about all I want out of core race NPCs.

And that's cool. It just goes to show that Paizo can't possibly please us all. And I should say that I won't mind at all if all 17 entries are actual monsters. I just like the inclusion of NPCs in regional sourcebooks Paizo have going on is all. :)

Just to add to Endzeitgeist's review of the adventure, I'll say that the Print-on-Demand version is of excellent quality. Sturdy paper and I've noticed no issues with the contents, except for the very minor nitpick that there's no text on the book's spine. For those of you who like your deadwood versions, I'll definitely recommend that you consider the Print-on-Demand option available through DriveThruRPG.

This goes for all five installments that have been released so far, not just ZEITGEIST #2: The Dying Skyseer.

Then it should say 10 new NPC allies and 7 new Monsters. :)

Right, and the product descriptions for the books containing a good mix have all done as much (Lands of the Linnorm Kings, Isles of the Shackles, and Magnimar: City of Monuments). If The Worldwound does contain a good mix of NPCs and monsters, I'm sure the final product description will say as much.

All this is hypothetical, of course. James said monsters and templates so until the final product description is posted, it's probably best to assume that all 17 entries will be monsters. Or not assume anything at all until that blurb is updated. :)

I would love 17 new monsters, but not 7 new monsters and 10 new unique human enemies.

One of the things I really like about the bestiaries featured in recent Campaign Setting books detailing regions is the inclusion of NPC stat blocks, fluff, and artwork for allies and adversaries the PCs might come across and if that trend continues in The Worldwound, I'll be a happy gamer. A 50/50 ratio sounds good to me.

The iconics have PC-level gear and use the 20-point buy, so their CR matches their class levels. They're intended mostly for use as PCs (pregens) rather than as NPCs.

Before. Use the Manage Pledge option and add the necessary amount. Once the Kickstarter ends, Frog God Games will send you a survey in which you can specify what the additional money's for.

I'm okay with roles, as it's helped a lot of the new people making games here to fit characters into the world of Golarion, without having to read the intimidating ISWG. I don't need roles, but I'm glad to have them.

This is my thinking as well. While I don't personally use them, I really like that they're there for new players as well as veteran players who just want a quick guide to a character concept. I'm not sure Blood of the Night used them optimally but that's a topic for a review.

So yeah, thanks Paizo for doing the adventure paths.

Really? Pushed back to August? This is getting to be as bad as Margaret Weis Productions and their Dragonlance products. Some of those things took a year or so to come out as it kept getting pushed back.

That's not actually the best comparison to make if your intent is to make it seem like a bad thing. Yes, Margaret Weis Productions was notorious for delays but as someone who had the honor of being part of the Whitestone Council (during the d20 days a group of gents proofreading the Dragonlance books released by Sovereign Press/Margaret Weis Productions), I can attest to the desire by the design team to make the books as good as they could be, even if it meant delays.

In the case of Visions of WAR, it was said early in the process that this is a low priority product. As I understand it, being a low priority product for Paizo means that if other fires need to be put out (such as delays to more important product lines such as the adventure paths, etc.), Visions of WAR is put on the back burner until those fires have been put out.
