About Rast Cobble

Prepared Spells:

Cleric Spells Prepared (CL 1st; concentration +4)
. . 1st—bane (DC 14), shield of faith, true strike [D]
. . 0 (at will)—create water, light, purify food and drink (DC 13)
. . D Domain spell; Domains Luck, Travel

Born in hardship and pain Rastillian did not really think of the larger world until he met Father Gil. Father Gil speaking of travel and dreams opened a new world to him.

Healing House Rule:

- Healing House Rule

Standard healing is minimum of one half the dice effect. (i.e. Caster Level 4 Cure Moderate Wounds would be 2d8+4 - minimum would be 12 HP of recovery)

This way you can guarantee some level of healing that is standard and not given a full RNG for healing.

2 - Health Potion House Rule

The piazo ruling on this is :

"Drinking a potion or using an oil is a standard action. (...) Using a potion or oil provokes attacks of opportunity."

I have always maintained at my tables that for drinking an HP replenishing potion only (CLW, CMW, CSW Potion, Potion of Heal only) That you are able to at the end of your turn elect as a free action to drink a potion.

I've always liked guaranteeing a level of dependency to healing and recovery in combat giving the player the ability to utilize tactics that don't rely entirely on randomization of healing.

Progression Note:

May dip one level barbarian or fighter if he really loses his cool in a fight at some point.

Rasts Story:

Growing up a ‘halfie’ orphan in Trunau was not easy. He was lucky he knew his mother but she had died when he was 8 and no one would really take him in in the frontier town. Alone he lived on the streets with other kids and a few shiftless adults. He survived because he was strong and wise enough to know what fights to avoid and who not to steal from.

“I was rough, what of it? Father Gil.. well he saw I could be more. Figure I owe it to im.”

Fights and minor theft were his way of life when he was young and it might have graduated to worse but his first attempt at going big did not go so well. Rastillian decided he would make some gold robbing a lone travel leaving town so he found a spot and waited, large club in hand until he found a likely target. An older man, elderly really, driving a wagon pulled by a donkey.

“So I jumped out at im. Simple right? Well I was all of 15 but puffed up and hungry so I did my best to scare him good. Well he, Father Gil, just smiled for a bit and shook his head.”

“His smile stayed and he pulled out a small bag. Told me he had ten gold and it was mine but gave me a choice, crazy old man I thought. Ride with him be his guard and he would give me one hundred at the end of the trip. Told me the only lie I know of, that he was too old to fight me.”

“So I took the offer and joined im, nothing else to do and he just sort of made me like im. Well we rode and he talked about this butterfly god and I didn’t follow at first but the days passed and I guess he got me. By the time we got to the end of the trip he had me thinking so I stayed with em. We traveled he talked and I guess I found my faith.”

The two traveled together for over a year and Rast was well on the way to becoming a cleric. They had their minor adventures as anyone on the road does and it was in one of those that he learned that Gil and lied about not being able to fight. A couple of full blooded orcs…

“So we were traveling and I had taken the cloth, as Gil said. Well these full blooded orcs, three of em with big swords, set on us. I damn near messed my pants, I mean I always thought I was tough but they were too much for me. Still I stood and told Gil to run but he just smiled and said a little prayer. Well the next thing I know a mound of earth rises up and takes the shape of a giant. Rocky thing just smashed the orcs like nothing and Gil just smiled and said Desna protects. I did see him cough though and there was a little blood.”

Clerarly this incident sparked something in Rast and he asked Gil to teach him more ways to use his faith in combat which he did but at a cost.

"Funny thing he made me learn a craft in exchange for the lessons and since I was big he sent me to the local smith. The armor-crafting was not to my taste but I did like working on weapons. Once I got so I could make a blade he taught me to cast a call forth a divine shield."

As Gil traveled less he started sending Rast out with small groups of adventures so he could get some practice. The most interesting one involved clearing out a nest of goblins under a town. It started with a chance and ended with the party squaring off against a goblin chief.

"Yeah, he made me get rid of the club and take a big ax, probably a better weapon though funny to think of the little guy he was telling me to use it. I miss my shield but what he said was the best way to prevent having the heal, sometimes, is removing the cause of injury."

It wasn’t long after that Gil was too weak to travel, to weak to get out of bed even. He told Rast his time was short but when he was gone he had a job to do.

“He said I was to go to Sandpoint and experience the Swallowtail Festival. Desna gave him a visions he told me. The butterflys being released and something making them burn. Gil said She would show me my path once I was in Sandpoint. He also said to keep my ax handy, it may be needed.”

Point by Point:

1. Born in Trunau
2. Rough life as a minor hoodlum
3. Shown kindness by a cleric
4. Got religion
5. Brought to Sandpoint to start his new life

Weakness:
Rast really lost his control when battling the goblins. His temper snapped and he continued to hack a dead goblin into a pile of pulp. He is worried that his temper will be too much for him if his companions are hurt.

Goals:
1. Redeam himself
2. Be an example to other half-orc youth

Secrets:
1. Questions his worth and is worried there is a savage inside him
2. Once saw an Ogre decimate a family and hid, terrified instead of helping.

People character knows:
1. Silvermane - Trunau elder
2. Gil - retired cleric of Desna (probably deceased)
3. Father Zantus - I assume a brief meeting when he arrived in town as a fellow follower of Desna.

Memories:
1. Begging for food as a youth until learning to steal
2. Accidently beating a young boy to death but never telling anyone
3. The feeling of joy that came from his friendship with Gil
