Randall begins his climb to the Crow's Nest. Each rung an agony to his striped back. About halfway up his legs begin to buckle and fresh blood drips from his back as he pauses to regroup before making his way to the top.

Apologies, everyone. I got blindsided by real life and had to do some emergency repairs on my basement these past couple of weeks.

Randall makes the climb to the crow's nest yet again. Worried about the changes in command he lets his mind wander and misplaces his feet on the rigging, slipping off somewhat before he manages to steady himself.

With his mind otherwise occupied he does a half assed job of keeping watch, just enough to not draw either Plugg or Scourges attention to him.

Although how one gets fatigued just standing in the crow's nest, I don't know.

That evening he will chat up one of new Rahadoumi crew members. Sitting down next to one he introduces himself "The name's Randall. You and your mate's seem to made out all right, but one's luck can't always hold." he nods almost imperceptibly towards Plugg and lowers his voice, conspiratorially "The man's a martinet and will end as all such men do. There's a storm coming and you'll have to decide where you stand once it breaks. If you and your friends are wise you'll find a place to shelter until it blows through. If you understand my meaning."

After Plugg administers his "discipline" to Pai Song, Randall will seek out the man from his earlier conversation "See what I mean, he definitely enjoyed that. I'd be surprised if he wasn't sporting a little wood right now." he whispers to the man.

Randall casts his last spell, coating the block and tackle of the jolly boat with grease hopefully hampering anyone's attempt to launch it.
Sailors will have to make DC:15 Reflex check every round to even begin to untie the launch.

Randall stares dumbfounded at his chest as a fountain of red spreads out from the crossbow bolt lodged there "How'd that get there?" he wonders numbly. Shaking off the fog he focuses on keeping his head down and holding the sterncastle against anyone trying to retake the wheel.
Randall will cast another Grease spell, this time on the stairs on the starboard side.

Randall sees the sailor's emerge from below and begin heading towards Djir. With a quick motion he casts a spell and the area underneath the lead four is coated in a layer of grease, causing them to slip and slide on the deck.

"Cap'n, behind you!" Randall shouts out as warning. Whatever his beef with Plugg and Scourge, it didn't extend to Captain Harrigan. Besides he couldn't, wouldn't allow any crew mate to be stabbed in the back if he could help it regardless of his feelings toward them.

With Chisomo and Lucille killing those around them without so much trouble or effort, Randall remembers his orders from Kline and makes his way toward the stern. Once he grabs the wheel he contiunes to belt out his tune, bolstering the morale of everyone from the Wormwood who can hear his voice.
"We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Maraud and embezzle and even hijack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me"

Double move to grab the ship's wheel. Continue the Inspire Courage 2/10 rounds.

Randall takes a moment to catch his breath as he begins to sing
"The king and his men,

Inspire Courage, all allies within 30' receive a +1 morale bonus on saves v charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and damage rolls.
He then tumbles away from the sailors in front of him and ends up with two sailors between him and Chisomo.

Randall looks up as the lookout shouts. He peers out on the horizon, just barely able to make out the ships white sails against the blue of the sky and sea. He looks at Torin "Aye, she's a long way off, but I doubt she can outrun us.". His pulse quickens at the thought of action "Finally something to do." he stares at Fipps and Japes as they slither out of the hotbox "and who knows what can happen in the heat of battle."

I've updated the tokens on Roll20. Blue is Helpful to at least one of us, Green is Friendly, Red is Hostile, and Black is a ship's officer (Uninfluenceable). Currently there is no one Indifferent or Unfriendly.

Randall holds his breath after Chisomo tells her side of the story as he sees the dubious look on Harrigan's face. He only breathes a sigh of relief as Fipps begins his stuttering account of the incident "Thank the Gods the man is a buffoon and the other is a mute." he thinks to himself "I don't believe a word he's saying and I was there."

Randall winces as Chisomo is sentenced with six lashes all just for trying to save his life. "F~$&, me." he muses when Harrigan passes judgement on Fipps and Japes "I had hoped sparing their lives would have brought them over to our side. Putting them in the box will only harden their resolve, if nothing else." but he can't help but smile as the pair are jammed together in a box clearly designed for only one person "Kind of like stuffing ten pounds of s@&~ in a five pound bag."

Night action
Randall, clearly shaken by the days events takes his rum ration and downs it all in one gulp.

Looking around he sees Chisomo sitting with Sandara "Time to take a step back from that, she deserves it." Not feeling in the mood for any fun and games he retires early to his hammock.

Ouch! that hurt. Does resting overnight remove one point of Con damage?

Begging the Captains pardon, Sir.' Randall says with a tug of his forelock in salute {b]"But what she says is the truth. Before I was sent to the bilges this morning Mr. Plugg stripped me of my weapons which I thought awfully peculiar given the size of the rats that live down below. He told me not to worry as he was sending someone to help, fortunately he missed my holdout dagger."[/b] He flicks his wrist just so and the dagger falls back into his palm, he offers the blade to the Captain hilt first.

"When Fipps and Japes arrived I could feel something was just not right, the tension was so high you could feel it even over the oppressive heat of the bilge. Anyway, Fipps soon began to pick a fight and drew his blade to strike at me. I incapacitated Japes with a spell while Fipps and I fought. He struck two teribble blows and I was soon unconscious. When I awoke both Fipps and Japes were sprawled on the deck next to me. I assisted Chisomo in placing them in the manacles, although stripping them naked first was my idea." his face twists into a wry smile.

Yeah, I'm good but even I can't save that roll.

Bilge Water Runs Deep:

Randall finishes his shift in the bilges as the pair of naked men slowly regain consciousness. Before going topside he walks over to the pair of shackled prisoners "Listen, gentlemen, and listen good." to make sure he has their attention he draws one of their daggers from his belt and lets the torchlight play along it's blade before continuing "A storms coming and you can feel the wind beginning to shift before it arrives. You two owe me your lives, my companions were quite content to kill you while you were unconscious but I, reluctantly, talked them out of it. He looks both men deep into the eyes "Now you have to ask yourself will you stand windward and join the storm, or will you stand alee and be swept away when it arrives?"

Randall makes one, last ditch, attempt to get Fipps and Japes to switch sides knowing my all be for naught

Randall drops both Fipps and Japes' daggers at Plugg's feet "With my regards, Mister Plugg" he sneers in contempt. As he walks back to join the rest of the crew he says over his shoulder "They decided to stay in the bilges for a little alone time."

Bilge Water:

Randall sits bolt upright, gasping for breath. He sees both Chisomo and Lucille standing over him "S~&@, I must've died because I see Angels before me."

He sees Chisomo with her arm cocked back ready to tear Fipps windpipe out and he holds up a hand "Yeah, that would be kind of hard to explain." he says half seriously "I've been expecting something like this ever since Sandara and I hooked up" He looks to Chisomo and shrugs apologetically "I had a plan to douse the lights to help even the odds but Plugg sent Japes down and, with his ability to see in darkness, I had to adjust on the fly." he rubs the spot where Fipps dagger had stabbed him "Damn, they hit harder than I thought"

He gets slowly, unsteadily to his feet, and kicks the unconscious bodies, before he begins stripping them of there weapons. armor, and finally clothes leaving them lying naked in the brackish water. He drags Japes over to the manacles bolted to the bulkhead and hoists the half orc up. "If you ladies can give me hand. I think it's going to take all three of us to get that big lummox, Fipps, locked up." With everyone helping he manages to get Fipps shackled as well.

He embraces both Chisomo and Lucille in turn "Thank you for saving my life. These two were intent on killing me, with Plugg's blessing it would seem. I owe you each my life...but I've only got one of them and I'm using it now." He smiles at each of them and sighs "Now if you'll excuse me I have a shift to finish. It wouldn't do to be snatched from the jaws of death only to be flogged to death by Scourge for malingering." He picks up Fipps and Japes' daggers and tucks them in his belt "Before you return to your duties if you could take these" he indicates the discarded armor and clothes "and, somehow, dump them overboard I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, if you could send Sandara down here before the end of shift I'd appreciate that as well. Now you two should really get back before you're missed. We'll talk later when there's more time. With that he returns to the bilge pumps and begins pumping

What was the point of fighting non-lethal if you're just going to kill them in the end? Doesn't look good for Randall who was supposed to be alone with them in the bilges.

One accidental drowning? Okay, maybe. Two accidental drownings while Randall walks out, relatively, unscathed. Again, not good.

Randall has (had) a plan for dealing with the aftermath. Then again he had a plan for dealing with the combat which went sideways when Jape came down (Damned half-orcs and their darkvision).

"Can't say I haven't been expecting this, but don't you boys think two on one is a little unfair? Tell you what, I'll wait here while you go and get a few more people" With a twist of his wrist the dagger stored in his wrist sheath slides down into his palm. Now armed he sees the looks of surprise on his attacker's faces "Not what you were expecting, eh" He looks Japes in the eyes and says "Hey Japes, have you heard the one about the half orc and his fat bumboy? It's hilarious." He proceeds to tell a hilarious story about the two of them. Once he delivers the punchline he steps up to the half-orc.

As a swift action Randall releases his dagger from the spring loaded wrist sheath, dropping into his palm. Then as a standard action he uses hideous laughter on Japes (Will save DC:15) and then steps up to stand beside him after he falls prone.

Randall notices the bared steel at Fipps hip and takes a step back as he waves the other two towards the pump "Have at it gentlemen, far be it for me to get in the way. I'm going to assume it's a lantern and not a burning torch. Even though either will work. Randall is going to begin an Inspire Courage performance giving him a +1 morale bonus on saves v charm and fear, and a +1 competence bonus on attack and damage rolls.

Question about Barroom Talespinner.

You gain a +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks and one category of Perform checks, and one of these skills is a class skill for you. In addition, once per week you can make a DC 15 Knowledge (local) or Intelligence check to see if you know a popular legendary pirate tale, the telling of which grants you a +1 trait bonus on checks made to influence NPCs on the ship.

Randall leans against the ship's rail, watching the crew scattered across the deck. Once Grok fills his cup he raises it in salute to the Quartermaster as he feigns a drink. Instead, once she walks away to fill someone else cup, he tips the drink over the rail "One for you, Black Lady." he thinks to himself.

Satisfied that no one saw him dump his drink he moves to the center of the deck and raises his arms for attention "Have you ever heard of Captain Kurgan Bloodskull? One of the most vicious Orcish pirates to ever sail the seas, I'll tell you that." he proceeds to regale the crew with the stories of Captain Bloodskull and the crew of the Blackfin.

Everyone, I've updated the tokens on the Wormwood map on Roll20. Each NPC's token color now indicates they're current attitude. I've based it in a ROYGBIV scale.

Red=Hostile
Orange=Unfriendly
Yellow=Indifferent (thanks to the recent attitude adjustments no one is currently indifferent).
Green=Friendly
Blue=Helpful
Black=Ship's officer (therefore un-influenceable)

"My dear, I don't sneak. Sneaking is for teenagers trying to avoid their parents" That being said Randall offers Sandara his arm and the two of them go below deck. Once they reach the middle hold the pair find Lucille and Syl deep into their "language lesson". At Lucille's offer Randall smiles "Perhaps some other time. Right now I think private lessons are more appropriate." As the couple goes off to find a more secluded section of the hold Randall shoots back over his shoulder "Have fun, you two."

The next morning Randall reports for duty oddly euphoric and tired both at the same time. As he listens to the First Mate's speech he can't help but notice the increased tension amognst the crew. When Scourge hands out the days assignments can't help but chuckle inside "Lookout? Well that's one way to keep distance between Sandara and I." With an "aye, aye" he jumps up on the rigging and begins his climb to the crow's nest.

The first part of the climb is easy enough and as his thoughts began to wander Randall's foot slips off the rope, luckily he was able to grab on and keep himself from falling to the deck below. Randall turns serious for a second "I'm sorry to hear about your loss. The life expectancy of our chosen profession is short enough barring any unfortunate accidents cutting it even shorter." He notices Sandara's glance over at Chisomo and chuckles "No one's been able to tie me down yet, except for that one time at a Temple of Calistria, but that's beside the point. I try to live each day as though it might be my last, because one day it will be. We can just enjoy each others company until we decide what we want." He too looks at Chisomo "That being said I don't want to step on anyone's toes, especially someone who rescued me off that hellacious reef"

Exposition time

Randall finds himself standing next Sandara by the railing "My apologies. Things have been so hectic these couple of days I haven't made the time to introduce myself and that's just rude. My name's Randall, Randall McNally, but my friends just call me Rand. Last night you told me a little about yourself and I feel the need to return the favor. I grew up in Riddleport. My father was a fisherman and I was raised listening to the men swapping stories as they mended their nets. The sea always called to me so as soon as I was able I hopped on a ship heading out of town and haven't looked back since. Meantime, I've jumped from ship to ship and risen up, and down, the ranks ever since."

Randall will call out to Rosie "Miss Cusswell, I understand you have a fiddle. If you would be so kind as to play I will sing everyone a song"

Randall will use his Sea Shanty ability to remove the fatigue any of his allies are feeling from the days work.

Once he finishes his song, and if Rosie will continue to play, he will extend his hand to Sandara for a dance. During a particular lively reel he will pull Sandara in close and whisper in her ear "Shall we continue this dance below decks?"

Randall listens to the conversation between Lucille and Maheem before interjecting "Bah, the Gods aren't all they're cracked up to be. I've seen too many people swear allegiance to whatever God or Goddess that is the most convenient at the time, only to switch that fealty when times change. A man's better off trusting in himself than in whatever or whoever may or may not be listening to him anyway."

"I certainly hope Besmara isn't listening in right now." he thinks to himself before waiting for Maheem to respond.
