Radu was born in Restov, son of a prominent merchant, Camilla Stanislav, who built her success on the ashes of her husband’s terrible business sense after he fled into the night, to avoid being imprisoned by his debtors. Radu was too young to appreciate, at first, his mother’s ingenuity, and thought her false for not waiting for his father to come back, utterly convinced that his father was blameless in their destitution, and the hard decisions his mother made to put them back on the path to success.

He turned to the faith of Abadar, seeking some sense of how things had gone so wrong, and learned much of the ways of business during his exploration of the ways of the clergy, and came to recognize his mother’s business acumen, and how his father had all but beggared them, with his poor choices, and fled to leave them to pay the price in his stead. He never quite could bring himself to say the words, but he knows that his mother recognizes that he regrets earlier accusations, when he was young enough to know no better.

A major factor in the turnaround of their family’s fortune was his mother turning to the teachings of the Kalistocracy of Druma, a land of intimidating and yet ruthlessly fair merchant-prophets. At first suspicious of their teachings, and his mother’s sudden conversion, he read the ponderous tome of restrictions that his mother had acquired, and after scoffing at some of them, came to notice that they seemed designed to maximize not just the earnings of the follower, but ensure that their coin passed most often into the hands of other followers of the teachings, so that, as the Prophet wrote, ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’ Each coin that enters the coffers of the prophets in trade might pass from hand to hand, but it will rarely leave the kalistocracy.

Recognizing that if he remains in Restov, his own ambitions will compete with those of his mother, who has many years of life yet within her, Radu has turned his eyes with interest to this new proclamation, of lands filled with danger, and, more importantly, untold untapped riches just waiting to be exploited, just south and west of the border. Such an opportunity does not come in every lifetime, and he is eager to move into this new territory and establish business interests there before any other competing factor can restrict the growth of his enterprise.

Prophets of the Kalistocracy are supposed to have all sorts of freaky dietary and sexual restrictions, and wear special clothes, and not touch certain things, etc. I don't want to tie these to orthodox Jewish, Hindu or Moslem traditions (and possibly make light of them), so I'm just gonna make stuff up.

Radu will only eat the meat of male chickens, cattle, goats and lambs. Any creature capable of producing eggs or milk, that people consume, pretty much, is off limits. Fish, pork, venison, shellfish, etc. he can eat without worrying about the gender. Most fruits and vegetables are fine, as are breads, cheeses, eggs, butter, milk, etc. but alcoholic beverages (and other intoxicants, such as drugs) are forbidden to him. Mushrooms are right out.

I'm not gonna even get into the other prohibitions, other than to say that a Prophet is only to lie with a declared consort (of which they can have several, before and after marriage) and only to have children with their (single) wife/husband. Consort or spouse, these individuals must also follow the Prophecies of the Kalistrade.

Bogdomil (manservant, 3 sp a day)
Human male expert 1, AC 8 (leather armor), hp 10 (1d8+1, +1 FC), Init +0, Perception +2
Fort save +1, Ref save +0, Will save +4
Str 12, Dex 10, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 14, Cha 10 (5 pt buy, +2 Wis from human bonus)
Feats: Animal Affinity (B), Self-Sufficient
Skills: (6 + 1 (human) +1 (Int) skill points) Diplomacy 1 (+4), Handle Animal 1 (+6), Heal 0 (+4), Knowledge (local) 1 (+5), Knowledge (nature) 1 (+5), Profession (cook) 1 (+6), Ride 0 (+2), Sense Motive 1 (+6), Survival 1 (+8)
Sling, 2 daggers, longspear, leather armor

Bogdomil is a sullen dark-haired young man of average height, with a hint of thickness to his frame, as if his baby fat never quite left his body. He grew up on a farm, of mixed Brevic and Kellid blood. He was raised by his mother, after his father’s imprisonment for horse-thievery, and has turned to work in town as a laborer to supplement his mother’s meager income running their farm. His combination of skills learned on the farm, under the tutelage of his mother, and hunting to provide food for his three siblings, has left him with useful skills in hunting, foraging, preparing food and dealing with animals, both on the farm and off. Since coming to town for work, he has also learned to speak in a more sophisticated manner, although he often grows irritated with speech that does not come swiftly to the point.

He finds Radu to be a self-important twit with more money than sense, and prefers to mutter to himself in Hallit, while working, so as to avoid airing his private opinions of his employer. He is completely unaware that Radu understands Hallit, obviously, and that one of the reasons he was selected for the job, which pays triple what most skilled hirelings make in a day, is that Radu recognizes his half-blooded nature and is reminded of his own situation, with a Kellid-blooded absentee father, and raised by a thoroughly Rostlander practical-minded mother.
