Background:

Fesswilliger Diggorydok was born to a prosperous Brastlewark family of clockmakers. In his turbulent youth however, Fess showed more interest in arcane pursuits than the family business, not that he didn’t enjoy assisting his father in projects, especially wind-up birds. Upon coming of age, Fess headed to the coast and shipped out on a tour of the Inner Sea. Fess worked many years as quartermaster on a slew of trade ships before eventually settled down in Westcrown where he could pursue his growing interest in the arcane with second-rate diabolists.

Fess was leading a comfortable life as a translator for a shipping interest when his boss was accused of smuggling and Fess was called to testify. He soon had a price on his head and he had to get out of town fast. Fess, under a new Gnom-de-plume of Quillin Inkpot, headed for the Shackles with his trusty gray parrot familiar, Smudge. His extensive knowledge of languages has been of great assistance in his travels with the unintended side effect that Smudge can curse in about a dozen languages.

Press-ganged in Port Peril, of course, Quillin served (poorly) as a cook under Captain Barnabus Harrigan for a short time before ending up under a bastard first mate on one of Harrigan's prizes. Shipwrecks, grindylows, and a mutiny ensued and the pernicious gnome found himself captaining his own ship, The Poxy Doxy. A bit too erratic and self-absorbed for the job, he was quickly tossed out in Lilywhite, where he finds himself stranded today.

Quillin is a near middle aged gnome with sharp eyes and mid-length dreaded black and turquoise hair often decorated with small feathers and a matching goatee. Having spent half his life around ships and crews, Quillin’s crass language often leads others to overlook his high intelligence and extensive education though he's quick to point it out when he's in a mood.
