save vs. spells: 1d20 ⇒ 15

"Those were chained from the outside. I don't know what the runes are, but it would seem the intent was to keep something in, not out."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry sits up and rubs the side of his head. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it! Well I did, but only because I thought you were someone else. But I guess we're even." The young man stand up on wobbly feet. "Where's everyone else?"

You can see, The darkness disappeared with Lareth's death.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

z'I prepared one to make Andre twice his size." Pettry smiles sheepishly. "I I don't know the one that puts folks to sleep yet."

There are no more occupants to the east, Tarmin, just three doors, all on the chamber's east wall.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry nods at Andre. "I swear I will avoid any conflict on the road to the best of my ability." He then turns his attention to Sir Galavaine. "I can wait for you at the Inn. I would return, but you are right in that I will have a hard time finding you again. I would hate to force you to have to rescue me."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry places his hand on Sir Galavaine's shoulder.

"I could lead them back. I know the way, and now that we've cleared some of the trail it should go quickly. I can be back here in a few hours if all goes well."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Gentry grips his staff and whispers,"I can open the door, everyone else can go in. I'm not much use right now anyway."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Tarmin/Sallandrya:
You would know that an initiate is actually a druid of modest skill, possibly even slightly stronger than Sir Galavaine or Sallandrya in clerical prowess

"Initiate...That almost sounds like he was more than a worshipper, doesn't it?" Pettry casts the light from Sir Galavaine's lantern about the corridor nervously. Where it passes through the open door to the east, the group sees several odd pieces of furniture and flashes of metal.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"Podo, you would make an excellent captain!" Pettry chuckles as he dons a cape of his own.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry INT check: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Pettry stares at the end of his staff, then backs up a step and answers Sallandrya. "Um.. I think this is a green slime. They're non-mobile, but can dissolve both metal and wood, and if they come into contact with flesh, it will shortly change to more green slime, killing the individual in a matter of seconds. I'm sure it could be used as a weapon, but I don't know how we could contain it." He glances up to see the one on the ceiling pull back from Tarmin's torch. "It might be better just to burn them. If we need to come back through here in a hurry, we may not remember that they're there."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry considers for a moment, then motions Sallandrya, Andre, and Sir Galavaine over.

"If I can suggest a compromise. We will lose valuable time if some of us were to take him back to town, but I think Sir Galavaine has the right of it - forcing him to go below seems wrong if he's that afraid. I could charm him, then tell him to go turn himself in to Burne. Justice would be done, and we wouldn't have to spare anyone to guard him."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

blind D20: 1d20 ⇒ 9

"Taking the first watch will be fine. I can examine whatever is left for magical properties."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry looks up at Sallandrya from his seat against the wall, where he's been examining the shield Tarmin found earlier. "I can, but I haven't used that one before, and it would be all I could cast for the day tomorrow - I will prepare it if you would like." He turns the shield over in his hands and holds it up to the elf. "It has a minor abjuration on it. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure it will provide a bit of added protection for whomever wields it."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry looks at the two elves and nods with Tarmin. "I definitely need to rest and prepare - I'm dead weight right now." He shakes his head. "Part of me thinks it would be safer to withdraw and return. We left a lot of dead bodies, anyone coming in or coming up from below is likely to be curious as to whether this group we just dealt with might know what happened - even if we dispose of them all, there will still be blood. Even if whomever downstairs isn't working with the brigands, they had obviously allowed them to remain."

He pauses and considers. "Of course, if we leave, the denizens below might take the opportunity to re-fortify the moathouse, and we'd have to fight our way through again."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry winces at the mention of Chela's name, but smiles as he accepts the package from the Elf woman. "Thank you, though I hope we don't have need of it in the coming days."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"Chela...the woman that taught me...mentioned it could be used to create a blast of flame and heat. I've never seen it done, though." His voice shakes somewhat at the mention of his teacher's name, though he obviously is trying to control it.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry nods. "I will examine it when we are somewhere safe. I don't want to endanger the others while I take the time necessary."

DM:

Pettry: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Pettry follows Podo, over towards the hallway the halfling is exploring. "Do you hear that?" He whispers to Andre and Sallandrya, pointing down the hallway.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry turns back to Tarmin. "Looks like it. I'm pretty sure I can see Podo and Gnobby inside. I don't know what the commotion was, though."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"Where should I be? I can throw a bolt of force at someone, but I can only do that once. I could stay back and help when they come to us?" Pettry taps his staff with one hand, apparently offering to help bludgeon the frog.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

OK. I'm going to PM him. If everyone else can check in to let me know they're still in, I'd appreciate it.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Wareagle, you still around? If things are too hectic for you to keep this going, let me know. I have the mod somewhere, I'll pick it up and run with it if there's still interest.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry isn't sure what to make of the goings on in the room. He wanders around, looking at the tapestries and other sundries hanging on the wall, trying to discern what they might be about. His stomach rumbles a little at the smell of the food, but he tries to ignore it.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry Shrugs back at Sir Galavaine, unsure what to make of the greeting, but also not certain how to answer the men-at-arms.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Hope your wife recovers quickly.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry raises an eyebrow and crooks a half smile when Podo expresses interest in coming with them. "I'd be careful if you decide to protect anything for the wizard. We can tend to be unforgiving, and he may turn you into a hamster or some such similar creature if he doesn't understand you're acting in his best interests." He turns and winks at Tarmin, who seems to be trying to contain the halflings most adventurous impulses. "That would be a shame, wouldn't it?"

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"I will come." Pettry says, rising from his seat. "I would like to hear what he has to say about the area, and may have some questions about our shared profession, as well."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry raises his mug with Andre and sir Galavaine, then listens to Tarmin speak, getting caught up in her story. His seemed insignificant, in comparison. It's the years. I've heard elves age more slowly than humans. She must be over 50 by now.

"That sounds like a beautiful place, Tarmin. Thank you for sharing your story with us." He glances around the room, searching for Elmo. Not seeing him, he speaks again. "Devarnish is not a place such as Celene, but it has a beauty all its own, I suppose. Though I spent most of my young life on caravans, and then in study, let me tell you about the market..."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry regards his companions, realization dawning on him that he wasn't alone in his pain, even among this small group. "My father was lost to me, as well. But it was recent, I believe the doing of the renewed banditry afield here. He pauses, and hangs his head, his next words hardly louder than a whisper. "I was there. They killed him. And I did nothing to stop them."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry notices Andre going without food for the second meal of the day. "You should eat, Andre. We will need your strength. Have you taken a vow?"

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry follows silently until the group is out of the Church and back on the path to the Inn. "So there is a mage in town? That's interesting. I wonder what he'd be able to tell us. Although I'm not sure we'll have time, if we're leaving on the morrow." He falls silent again briefly, pondering what they've learned.

"It's concerning though, that the evil was only 'Sealed away.' Seals can be broken. If we don't act quickly, who knows what the evil forces gathering at the moathouse will do...beset this town, or open the Temple and plunge the whole region into chaos? I don't think we can fail, here."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry stands near the door as the introductions are made, chuckling quietly at Podo's introduction of himself. "Well met, indeed, Sir Galavaine. My name is Pettry Velten, late of Devarnish. I am skilled with such minor magics as may be useful to this group, and they have seen fit to allow me to tag along."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry fishes around in his pouches and produces a couple gold pieces, which he drops in the box by the door. He looks to Andre and shrugs. "Couldn't hurt...So, I guess we go see the Abbott?"

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry observes Andre's interaction with the priest, moving up to stand behind the paladin. "This really is the nicest church I've ever been in. I hope we can be of assistance with whatever troubles the good folk here."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry follows Andre to the church, and stands respectfully off to the side, unsure of anything else to do. He watches anyone within with mild interest, though he feels no particular affinity for the church or its denizens.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry looks to Andre. "Perhaps now would be a good time to pay a visit to the church of your patron, especially since it's on our way back to the inn? Meeting with the Mayor might cause us to be late."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry follows along with the others as they head to the shed. What a strange way to spend an afternoon...

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Grateful to be moving again, though the rest and meal did sit right, Pettry stood with Andre. "Let's. Sounds like we suddenly have more than enough to occupy our time."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"We should be able to deliver the axe without his aid. I wouldn't want to meet with the mayor without Gnobby present, though."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry sighs, and lowers his voice as well. "You're right, of course. I think the trip's worn me out, made me cranky." He looks around at the inn's patrons. "Seems like a good community around here. Think we can cure what's ailing them?"

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry digs in to his simple dinner, dropping the appropriate coinage on the table for the serving girl. After days of camp food, the well cooked meal was a welcome change. A scant few minutes later, he had polished off his plate. Realizing how quickly he'd inhaled his meal, he sits back and tries to regain some composure, although the grins that show around some of his companions' mugs belie the fact that they noticed.

Quickly, he tries to change the subject. "Do you think the innkeeper will be able to tell us anything useful, Andre? I've always found them to deal more in gossip than in useful facts, except as it pertains to them."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry looks up from his tankard at the toast, and finds it impossible not to raise his own ale at Tarmin's exhuberance. "Success," he says simply, tapping the tankard's rim gently against hers, then glancing at his companions as he drinks deeply. It would seem a man could easily find worse company to travel with, but it may prove difficult to find better.

He looks over at Narghat. "We've made it, but to the start of what? I hope we can find what we each are looking for on this road."

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry shrugs wordlessly, and turns to follow the Elf into the inn.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"Or someone else's entirely?" Pettry glances around, as discretely as he is able. "And where, exactly, did his brother come across a blade like that?" He nods as the gnome relates his plan. "You best hurry if you want the halfling's aid, looks like he's tracking a different quarry," he says, pointedly glancing in the direction of Podo as he scampers towards the door to the inn.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry sighs loudly enough for his companions to hear, but addresses the man diplomatically. And tell me, good sir, what kind of service would you offer us that would be worth coin?

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

"Delivering an axe?" Pettry's voice is just loud enough for the Paladin to hear. "Isn't that a task more fit for one of her sons?" Still, as the rest of his companions turn in the direction indicated by the now-departed woman, he guides his horse to fall in with the rest.

I didn't come along to become an errand boy. "I hope this miller has a bit more useful information he can impart to us than stories he uses to frighten his children. I suppose it's the best lead we have to work with right now, though." After a couple disapproving glances from his companions, Pettry closes his mouth and continues on in silence, though he does a poor job of hiding his impatience.

Male Human Magic User / Lvl 1

Pettry looks at the gnome and reins up his horse. "Yes. They sent us here to rid the area of the threat to the roads. Likely some bandits, nothing more. We should have enough swords to put a stop to the problem."

His bravado spent, Pettry guides the horse back behind the others. His first look at the town leaves him somewhat unimpressed, though he can see the potential for growth and trade.

For the time being, Pettry will keep Charm Person memorized. I'll let you know if I change the spell he has prior to the day's work. edited cause Gnobby ninja'd me :)

>I am in the Eastern timezone.

>I'm ok with just rolling HP. Although with a d4, I'm sure I'll regret that statement.

>I see that Osric uses the 3.5 "bleed one point per round to -10 after you reach 0HP." cool.

Pettry is sullen for the majority of the trip, but seems determined to do something. He would not seek out any of the other characters, but will latch on to any who act friendly towards him.

I know, I was surprised, given my normal luck with these things - history says I should have ended up with Write and Find Familiar. Nice thing about the dice mechanic here, no need to cobble together a way to hit 28 possibilities with multiple standard dice.

It's been quite a while since I've touched a MU. Assuming I get selected, this will be interesting, to say the least.

Chose Magic Missile, and Read Magic is a given. Rolling randomly for two more spells:

1d28 ⇒ 7 - Enlarge
1d28 ⇒ 3 - Charm Person

Rest of the profile is up under this name.
