Cool. This is not what I expected and certainly a big leap. Looking forward to it.

Interesting investor model you're taking. 100K seems like a safe entry point. Assume higher is ok too but does ownership stake involve input or not on the operation of the company and game design?

I don't see any mention in the FAQ of being associated with any of the major houses (SOE, etc.) Are you doing your own infrastructure?

Will development be based locally? Which side of the lake?

It's the new Rankin/Bass "A Very Special Goblin Thanksgiving". I hear the claymation flaming turkey is especially awesome.

What's the timeline for a full list?

Woot! Paizocon even closer to home and just down the street from the office. Win! Tickets being purchased PDQ.

So, when are we meeting at Malt and Vine? :-)

Will Games & Gizmos or Uncles have a presence in the dealer room? Seems like Friday night PFS in Redmond will be relocated that week. :-)

Staff

Note that doggie care only does small dogs -but also have heard good things about them. VCA are nice folks, right next to my office so we see the pups going for walks all the time.

Staff

What? The Gnome Fighter is a common? Awesome! Nothing better then an ambush by a group of evil fey Gnomes. PC's never expect Gnome commandos.

Going to have to think of more Gnames though... Gnigel, Gnorman, Gnevil, Gnancy.... :-)

Staff

Play a cleric if you want to be good at:

...
"Using a Scimitar"
"Persuading People"

Isn't this redundant? :-)

But, wait, all Clerics have to use Scimitar's now? Great simplification! :-)

(PS: Great first preview. Looks fun!)

A friend is planning to put together some sessions for my wife and a couple of friends - plan is to for the three of them to be "Medieval Charlies Angels" and I get to play the "Bosley". We have a "Townsend Adventuring Agency" that goes out to solve murders, find kidnapped folk, rescue keeps, etc.

He's not on here, so asked me to request if anyone might suggest AP books, modules, or PFS that have "detective" like plotlines that he might pick up and use.

Recommendations? Btw, don't be too spoilery, since I might be playing these! :-)

Having grown up in Indianapolis and now living in Seattle, I miss the local flavors. At the Steak N' Shake 3 times over 6 days while I was there for GenCon and visiting the folks. Pizza King another night, White Castle very late Saturday. Chili 5 way every time at the S n' S. :-) Dad sends out cans of chili as care packages for us.

Still waiting for the report on the yearly Paizo visit to White Castle. Did all survive with guts intact?

Vikings vs. Ninjas

Staff

How unfortunate. With his history I'm sure Bill won't have trouble doing something else if he's so inclined. I would think this cements the non-future of any further Star Wars products? He was the walking SW encyclopedia, after all.

It's interesting you mention Stephen and Michelle as well. That's "Director", "Lead" and "Senior" titles. Smells of cutting based upon salary savings, or a shake-up in product direction, or both. Seems troubling, especially since it's not even Christmas yet.... :-|

Staff

Any interest in Pathfinder Kinect? Now *that* would be something popular at the home office I'm sure. :-) :-)

Staff

Hey William!

Looks like mine have been poste, so yours should be showing up soon as well since we were in a couple together. Hope the trip back down to Portland was good.

The Grand Melee was great! And, winning it was even better! :-) The boons were excellent. Robert, our GM, made it a ton of fun and kept it moving along at a snappy pace. Loved one initiative roll that just went on and on and on and on.

The next afternoon I played in Shades of Ice Part III. Unfortunately I had a 1st level character playing "up" with 3 4th levels and 2 2nd levels. Let me tell ya, having that final resurect boon in the back pocket made it *much* more relaxing than it might have been.

At one point there's a very large chance of death bearing down on us with everyone scrambling out of the way. ZIP - the 1st level character is flying 60' feet up. Even helped get a rope secured for those high level guys. Woot. :-)

Btw, walking by this afternoon and saw the projection up on the wall for this. Nice touch!

Staff

Interesting, the schedule is the first thing I found in the SWAG bag. <shrug>

Staff

It was, well, Grand. :-) Good organization, lots of fun. And the rewards - awesome! Our table got through all 5 encounters. How did other tables do?

Staff

Hey - I'm signed up for the 9-noon session for this on Friday morning, but it's looking like I have to drop my wife off later then expected. Checking the scheduling, I don't appear to be able to drop it from my schedule, so this is fair notice - very good chance I won't be there - spot open!

Staff

Dale - want to commend you for getting this going. I likely won't make it (as I'm not staying at the hotel since I live local) - but wanted to suggest a couple interesting things nearby as "destinations" for your walk. I know it's always more interesting that way.

Probably the easiest would be to loop around Lake Bellevue and back. Can probably do that in 15 or so. Go left out of the hotel, turn east on 8th, then 118th over to Lake Bellevue.

If you turn right out of the hotel and take 116th south up the hill, you should get a good view of Seattle. Near there is Willburton Park Hill, which has the Bellevue Botanical Gardens. Obviously, you might not be able to make it up, through the gardens, and back in 15 minutes. :-) :-)

Here's a map of the area around the hotel, you should be able to see both of these on the map.

MAP!

Cheers!
Pete

And I have a question is the food there good? Or is that a dumb question?

This is not a dumb question - there are no dumb questions.

My personal feelings are the food there is good. It's not "great", but it is good. I'm kind of spoiled by other seafood places around here (Anthony's, etc.) The grilled seafoods are ok - the cioppino isn't bad.

The "crab pot" experience of having them dump a big bucket of stuff is fun though, so if you haven't ever done that, definitely dig in and get both hands dirty. It's definitely more about the experience of having a big crowd and having fun then it being the best seafood in Seattle.

If you're a "fresh" seafood person and that's something you really want to try - ask specifically what they have that's fresh. Over the weekend we had some of the fresh copper river @ Anthony's -- YUM.

Hope that helps!

And... none of them! And that's just fine. I figure having been to the first couple Paizocon's and having gotten to play in a number of awesome games already, I have nothing to complain about. Let the new kids have their fun!

Signed up for the Grand Melee - Look out Tim - you know we're gunning for ya! Also signed up for some low-level PFS to get a new character leveling - should be fun!

<scribbling notes while lamenting the lack of good pizza on the eastside> Sigh.

Btw:
+1 Spicy Talk - the hand shaved noodles - yum!
+1 Malt and Vine - make sure to bring your growler
+1 Black Raven (Cask night tonight - Woot!)
+1 Pabla in Issaquah - although sooo glad Kanishka in Redmond opened back up - higher quality of food, IMHO

I was going to inquire on two places if anyone has been there:
Goldberg's Deli @ Factoria - know it's by the old offices, wondered if it was any good.
Danube Bistro - Bellevue - miss good cabbage rolls and wiener schnitzel - unsure if this is the place to go. Probably (long) walking distance to the Con.

If you're going over to Seattle on a weeknight, Pike's market is ok, I find it a bit better on the weekends. Capital Hill, Fremont, or Ballard are a bit more bar hopping friendly anymore. Bottom of Queen Anne is still ok, mostly. Pioneer Square/International are probably fine on weeknight, but yah, late or late on the weekends, ymmv.

If you do get over to Ballard, there's a puerto rican place that is great. I forget the name, but been there and loved it. The Ballardites (Ballardians?) probably know it.

I am going into be in the area for a couple of weeks in addition to the weekend. Where are the best RPG shops? Places to Game?

Also, anyone know any good vegetarian, gluten free alternative places?

Hi Brian! Sorry that no one replied on this sooner, good thing Timitius (TIM!) bumped it for us.

Suggestions on RPG Shops:
http://dlair.net/
http://www.unclesgames.com/
http://mygamesngizmos.com/

All of these are also great places to game. Of course if you're going to be in the area for a couple weeks ahead of time, you might be able to get a few of us interested to get together to do a game night or somesuch. (What do you think Tim?)

For veggie places, you've come to the right area! My wife and I are flexitarian so can direct you there too.

Right near the hotel is a Whole Foods, very easy to get what you need there in a pinch.

Eastside:
www.teapotvegetarianhouse.com - Redmond
Any of the multiple Indian places in Bellevue
Cafe Happy - Kirkland

Over in Seattle:
www.cafeflora.com
www.carmelita.net
www.chacocanyoncafe.com (lots of raw items here as well)

Hope this helps! Feel free to contact me directly at peteapple @ live.com for more info/directions if you need them.

It sounds like you don't just want a class that's easy for him to play; you need something that's straightforward for the other players to fill in for him, if he needs a break, or can't make it to the game.

I've seen games get bogged down in debates of 'What would Bob Do?', and any PC needs to be simple enough to potentially be played as a second character by the GM or another player.

On that note, make sure you use a PC sheet that is intuitively laid out. Dozens of fiddly boxes spread over a dozen pages are a pain for anyone to use if they aren't the usual owner. Ideally you want something laid out as simple as a statblock from an adventure, with any race and class abilities reprinted for easy access.

Yes, this is spot on. Every session always includes a period of time when he's down. Used to be I'd take over, but the last couple years other players have stepped in, which has been a real benefit to me. So you are correct that part of the desire of simplicity is so other players can step in until he's back up.

The statblock on a single sheet is a great idea - we do sometimes have to fiddle about with his 3-4 sheets.

I have a friend that has SLE (Lupus) that manifasts as extreme fatigue at times. He goes from chipper and awake to comatose on the couch in about an hour's time. The frequency/severity is increased based upon how much emotional or physical input he experiences. Essentially, the more input he gets, the faster he goes down.

We've been playing RPG's for a goodly while now. Were on 3.0, then 3.5, then some 4E, now some GW. Would like to do PFRPG with him, but when we played 3.5 he often got burned out quick. I don't think it helped that he was playing a multi-class thief/wizard (what he wanted to play...) as there were an increasing number of decisions to make throughout the course of a game as we went up in levels.

So - question for the Paizo Team: In playtesting or other studies, or just based upon player's experiences, what is the "easiest" class to play? And how would you cook up that character to minimize things based upon what I've described here.

Thanks!
Pete

Hmmm... Yeah. More palatable for the "named" store market. Very interesting indeed. Have an idea what I would think would be in that. Look forward to more details or a looksee. Local beta?

So is that a box in the picture? So it's some sort of boxed set ala the red box?

Pumphouse is your best bet for brew selection within walking distance, just down the street on 8th. I prefer the Pumphouse to the Goose. It's not a brewpub, but http://www.3pigsbarbq.com/ is just down the street on 116th and has BBQ and beer as well.

While it might push the cost up, I wonder if Paizocon...

Unfortunately, downtown Seattle would push the cost up considerably, and probably prevent a number of folks from attending.

I usually put visiting guests up at the Marriot at Redmond Town Center - lots of food and shops all within walking distance. And a game store! Plus it's right on the bus line straight to downtown.

You were great as the cleric Pete! That game was a blast.

You were all great! And yes, Cursed Lot was my favorite part of PaizoCon, for the second year in a row!

Where else can you play:
An Amnesic Wizard that hears barking dogs
An Agoraphobic Cleric in a carriage (and her warhorse, Daisy)
A Barbarian that panics at the sight of blood
A Rogue that's afraid of the dark
A Paladin under a permanent "Suggestion"
A Hemopheliac, OCD Monk that counts everything he sees

Extremely creative and lots of opportunities to play off one another.

"The Monk is bleeding! Turn him off! Gaaa!"

And the wooden house! Brilliant!

I got home late last night but my wife was still up. Went through the goody bag and thought the Fanzine was one of the Paizo-produced goodies. I had to convince her it was Fan produced.

'Nuff said. Great job!

Staff

Go! Btw, what was the name of the winning team again? My favorite moment was still the one-man SKR wave. Classic!

Staff

-1 Gotta help the wife finish her DNA data models tomorrow. Big presentation on Monday and I've got "plans" for the weekend. ;-)

Tim, I should be able to make this. Sorry to not back to you sooner, let me know if there is still room. We can discuss further at Geoff's game on Sunday. Woot!

I say we just use the same characters from Cursed Lot. :-)

Something I hadn't considered before is the Microsoft Visitor's Center (Museum + Company Store) that just opened up in new digs if you're into that sort of thing. Might be good for a quick Friday morning visit if you've got a car. Not sure they're going to have a Natal in there to try out yet. :-)

Staff

Definitely looking better. Thanks folks! Dang interwebs!

Staff

Sooo.... I'm attempting to sign up for cursed lot, cause it says 4 out of six slots taken (and I have my drums of doom polished) but the website keeps not taking it... and I had to drop my other items in order to get it to not complain about conflicts... so... is the event sign up actually working? Is the information on there accurate? Should I sign back up for the original events before they get full?

Any advice on a good steak place?

Now I'm not talking dress up fancy (seriously, I own one tie for interview purposes and it's in storage in Boise, with everything else) and be a snob, but good steak and fixings that's okay with my showing up in jorts, steel-toed hiking shoes and a t-shirt.

A good beer selection is solid, too, so long as I don't have to drive back...if I've got to drive, then I either don't drink or drag out the meal so as to not be intoxicated by the end of the meal...or get blitzed and taxi-it. ;)

Best Steak in Seattle: Buenos Aires Grill

Plus the Tango's fun to watch ( and participate in, if you're so inclined)

If you want more reasonably priced and has a location on the eastside, try Jak's

In bellevue there are Daniel's and El Gaucho, both of which are way overpriced for what you get. Oh and there's a Ruth's Chris at the Bellevue Mall. Bleh.

Still wondering about these things.

Juice Bar. I want Wheat Grass Shots!

Nature's Pantry.

Bakery! I want to hit the best bakery in town!

The best bakery in Bellevue is Belle Pasty. It's not as good as Bakery Nouveau, but, then again, it's not in West Seattle either.. :-) We hit it up before heading to BelSquare on the weekends.

Organic Food Store Yes, the good stuff.

Nature's Pantry.

There's also a Whole Paycheck and Trader Joe's in Bellevue. PCC is better, but there isn't one in Bellevue.

But seriously, stop in at Nature's Pantry. It's in the same building as the University book store and it's a great place.

Stadium/IMAX Movie Theatre I am ashamed of watching movies in my town.

Lincoln Square

IMAX just down the street from the hotel! We have indoor plumbing too. You'll love it.

Cheese: You just missed the Seattle Cheese Festival! Now that was a fun time.

We like Byblos -- Of course it's primarily Med. based cheeses, but that's the kind we like! :-)

If you're going to be anywhere near Pike's Market, just go to DeLaurenti and make sure you bring enough for everyone else. ;-)

Hope this helps!
