Hi
So, what's the latest thinking on the Adv Races Guide and PFS? The new book is (possibly) only a few months away!
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Thanks, thought as much.
Just that you had to go all way back to first papragraph of the thread (many pages up) to see that things NOT included are NOT PFS legal.
Juat been asked - was the omission intentional?
Thanks again
Paul H
Hi
Gods & magic states:
Adepts, bards, rangers, sorcerers, and
wizards of Pharasma may learn augury (2nd-
level), death knell (2nd-level), and speak with dead
(3rd-level) as if they were on their class spell list.
Clerics treat clairaudience/clairvoyance (3rd-
level), false life (2nd-level), and moment
of prescience (8th-level) as spells on
the cleric spell list.
Do they get this in PFS?
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
It's the 'bring this book ...' bit that's difficult. Since the book's not due out until April, the boons out now.
Simpler when the specific details are on the chronicle sheet. (As been explained).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Thanks for that. My main concern was what to do if they appearead on a table I was GM'ing. (Though I am still interested if elements of the ARG become accessible).
If all the details are on the Chroniicle sheet iteself, then my main question's answered.
Thanks
Paul H

Hi
Yes, I was aware there were three boons, but weren't told what they were. (Or even shown them). Since we all had the other 'holiday' boons, I thought it was a better version of those.
I would expect there to be some at Conception, but how many, and how will they be distributed? Can't remember specifics, but don't we have 80-100+ tables of PFS?
Lastly, how will I treat the boon on any table I GM? There's no info on the 'allowable resources' section. Are the full details on the Chronicle itself? Heard from US player that one of the boons already on EBay for $50!
Lack of info sows confusion - in this case major imbalances as a few players may have access to none-core races, whilst GM's kept in the dark.
Will someone please update the 'Allowable Resources' bit to include the info?
Paul H
PS Thodd - Thanks for ensuring we got something. Would have been nice knowing what it was. (Poss after it was given out)?
PPS Will all players eventually have access to alternate races? The nerfed Tiefling from Council of Thieves looks good. Just like to plan ahead with my characters.
Hi
Was recently asked by a US player about Racial Boons, and how to implement them.
Hadn't the foggiest idea what he was on about, never having seen them in UK.
So, as the the title says, what are these Racial Boons, will they be available in UK, and when?
We've just had Dragonmeet in London, and I'vev not seen any racial boons. WIll they be available at Conception (in Jan) and how do we players get hold of them?
(I'm interested in the nerfed version of Tiefling in Council of Thieves). As a GM, I'm not sure how to deal with them, since there's nothing under 'allowable resources' (So I'll prob have to disallow).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
The reason I thought it might happen is the software 'engine' you spoke of.
Sure, the basic program would have to be tweaked because of the CMB/CMD thing, but biggest changes would be things like Character Classes, Feats & Spells, all data sets, and easier to deal with.
The Community Expansion stuff would also add value to the game. I still play the original NWN for the CEP 'Prisoner of the Mists'. A Ravonloft style setting, set up by fans.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Been playing the old Neverwinter nights game recently, on one of the CEP servers.
Got me thinking, will there ever be a Pathfinder based PC RPG, on the same lines as Neverwinter Nights?
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Hope they do make a mini based game like WotC.
Nice intro box was a great source of some iconic minis, and an interesting new way to use our minis.
The new battlemats for the game could be used as the maps for new PFS scenarios. Some of the existing maps (Keep)? could be used as alternate scenarios for the minis-game.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Actually I wasn't using feats from the Bestiary, just checking if TWF can be used with multiple pairs of arms.
I believe I can use Multiattack - it's a class ability at 9th lvl.
I was hoping that I could use the TWF tree to get the extra attacks before then.
As it happens my current (lvl 2) Synthesist is going for the 2H weapon/Pwr Attack combo. As far as I can see it'll be just 3 attacks (about lvls 6-7) with Nodachi's. Pwr Attacking with Arcane Strike.
Thanks
Paul H
Edit: From 'additional resources:
"Feats: none of the feats are legal for play for PCs, animal companions, or familiars unless specifically granted by another legal source."
Eg. Class ability
Hi
Yes, thinking 3 primary hands, 3 off-hands.
So, 6 attacks at -2, then 6 attacks at -5? (Wakizashi is Light Weapon).
And this is PFS legal!
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Sorry if this has already been answered in the 626 posts preceding this one...
The maximum of natural attacks is listed in the Eidolon entry, but what about iterative attacks with manufactured weapons?
Eg. 7th lvl Synthesist, 4 extra arms, Improved TWF, wielding Wakizashis.
Does it get 6 attacks (one per hand), or 12? (BAB +6).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Actually you can resummon your Eidolon - 2nd Lvl Spell called "Summon Eidolon".
It's only temporary, but can be augmented. (Augment Summoning feat, etc).
There's also a feat that allows a second summoning/day, with some bonuses.
(I'll check the books & edit this post later with the details).
Back to the books...
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Any idea when an official errata is coming out?
Thinking of the 400+ threads about the Synthesist
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Like many others I'd like to add my congrats to his well deserved 4th Star.
Think he GM'd my first Convention game (Oxford), way back when it was still D&D 3.0. He's GM'd many, many of my games since, both PFS & LG before that.
Rob - Look forward to seeing you at Conception, if not Dragonmeet.
Congrats and Well earned...
Paul H
Hi
Just a quick question on Feats. (Sorry if it's alerady been posted - just takes too long looking through hundred plus messages. Really needs errata)!
Since the Eidolon uses the Synthesist's Feats, does this include Toughness? Ie. The Eidolon ALSO gains extra HP?
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Thanks for the input. Just read the Shadow Lodge background, and IPCC sprang to mind. :P
I wasn't intending to add in-game bonuses, just a bit of fun'n flavour for my character.
Of course, there could be future scenarios where the Shadow Lodge are doing some form of internal investigation into the PF Lodge? Someone using their PF membership for their own personal political & financial gain?
(One day I'm gonna have to get these ideas down and actually write the scenarios...).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Is the Shadow Lodge the new IPCC (Independent Pathfinder Complaints Commission), since they're the new Pathfinder Watchdog?
(For non-Brits IPCC is the Independent Police Complaints Commision, or IAD in USA)
Thanks
Paul H
Edit: PS Any chance my char can be allowed to have some ID docs made up? (IPCC). No game effect, just roleplaying value? Reckon cost about 1GP?
Hi
I think the simplest solution is 5 levels of Synthesist (Summoner Archetype). Then follow up with Ninja.
Go Snake base form, add two sets of arms/hands, incerease dex by two, and add set legs/feet. That's 8 Evolution points.
Your effective physical stats are:
Str 14 Dex 20 Con 14 (Inc 4th lvl stat increase).
You've now got 4 arms/hands to wield two Curved Blades, and look like a Yuan ti.
You also gain +6 Nat Armour, Darkvision, Evasion, Climb speed. Bite & Tail Slap attacks. Plus Ninja abilities.
Cha is the Spell casting stat, as well as stat for Ki Pool for the Ninja.
Curved blades are bit wierd, since they qualify for both Wpn Finesse & Pwr attack. (At same time)?
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Thanks guys
Looks like Synthesist 5/Ninja xxx. I can use 2 Elven Curved Blades, with any spare attacks used by Bite/Tail Slap.
Ninja's good because it uses Cha for Ki, the Summoner's prime stat.
Cheers
Paul H
Hi
Yep - was aware of the max attack thing, whis is why I was going for either a dex based 2H weapon, or weapon that grants bonuses with off-hand free.
I wasn't going to increase physical stats - that's what the Eidolon's for.
I was thinking Synthesist 5 (4 points 2 pairs arms/hands, 2 pts for +2 dex, 2 pts +2 Con).
2 x Scimitars +1 would be Attack +10, Dam D6+6. (Plus bite & tail slaps).
2 x Elven Curved Blades +1. Attack +10. Dam D10+4 (plus bite & tail slap).
That's 4 attacks at 5th lvl (Eidolons max 4 attacks 5th lvl).
All weapon threat 18-20, double damage on crit. Eidolon Ability increase into Con, (mine into Int).
Followed by few levels of Rogue, then see whether to keep going Rogue, or back into Synthesist.
Thanks
Paul H
PS Prob go with Curved Blades, and save the extra feat for Arcane Strike instead
Hi
I'm looking into a Yaunti flavoured character.
I would have gone with one of the Rogue Archetypes that uses D8's on dagger sneak attacks, but I'd be hampered by the max attacks of the Eidolon I'm wearing, hence either Scimitars or the 2H Finesse weapon.
Thanks
Paul H
PS Where's the FAQ? Didn't know anything about NOT dual wielding?
Hi
Thanks for the quick reply.
I was just thinking of going few levels of Synthesist, then finishing as Rogue (better yet, Ninja) for all the sneak attack damage.
It's for the PFS campaign. With Dragonmeet in November, and Conception in January I should be able to make 5th lvl if I concentrate on this char.
Cheers
Paul H
Hi
Just thinking about a 4 armed (snake based) Synthesist build using Dervish Dance.
Dervish Dance just states that you must have off hand free, but what if you have more than 2 hands?
For instance, if I held Scimitars in both right hands, but kept my left hands free, would I still be able to use the feat? And would they count as my Primary attacks? (Presume my Bite & Tail Slaps count as Secondary attacks at -5 to hit).
Or would I be better off using 2 Elven Curved Blades (each 2H using Finesse).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Just to muddy the waters even further....
Since the Sythesist and the Eidolon are both one. Some people say the Synthesist can't wear/use armour. Arcording to that logic, the PC doesn't get skills nor feats, since:
"The Eidolon has no skills or feats..." (Pg 80, top right hand column).
Personally, I'd change the wording about the armour bonus gained each level, so that it only counts as armour, not Nat Armour. Then specify that the Synthesist uses the best of the armour values from either the level based bonus, or armour he's wearing. (Nat Armour from base Eidolon type, plus evolutions, etc stack with armour).
Eg. Synthesist 1 wears Mithral Shirt (+4 Armour). Biped form has +2 Nat Armour, plus Evolution for extra +2 Nat. These stack.
Synthesist lvl 2 with same armour, could use the +2 armour bonus (lvl 2) OR the Mithral Shirt. They DON'T stack.
Just a suggestion until the clarification.
Thanks
Paul H
PS I've got a Human Synthesist in PFS. So far the GM's ruled that they all stack.
Hi
But as a PFS player with a Synthesist character, I would like an official answer to the original post:
Can the Synthesist benefit from the 'Skilled' evolution before 10th level?
Personally I can see both sides to the argument, so haven't taken it (yet), but would really like to boost my UMD next level!
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Been running this conversion for a month now - never finished it before in either 2nd Ed or 3.5 formats.
AFAIK Illithids aren't the only creatures missing from PF. (I've forgotton what the others are).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
That's 2 + (Int Mod) skill points/level.
And it's a melee/spell caster, casting combat spells in armour. BAB & spell progression similar to the Bard.
I use mine as support character - granting flanking, attacking things that require magic/elemental weapons to hit, etc. Though I do have Wandstrike & wand of Truestrike.
Oracles can gain extra spells known each level,(one level less than max level they can cast), so I hope they get something similar.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Without getting into a flame war - clearly the Eidolon and Summoner are distinctly seperate in some ways. Eg Eidolons aren't (normally) spell casters, so Synthesists can't cast spells whilst 'inside' their Eidolon? Hardly.
Also - if you & Eidolon are one being, you don't use your HP, just the Eidolon's? UM clearly states that you use YOUR HP plus Eidolon's HP as 'Temp'.
I believe that the real question is about stacking various types of armour bonuses.
1) Eidolon (Nat Armour)plus Summoner (Light Armour) stacking? Yes
2) Eidolon (Nat Armour) plus Summoner (Nat Armour from Dragon Disciple) stacking? No
I hope that we can get an 'official' ruling soon, since I've just started a Synthesist character in the PS campaign.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Sythnesist (Summoner), erm - LEGAL?
Surprised this one passed the test, using your Eidolon's physical stats & abilities instead of your own? Interesting........
Might try one out this weekend at ShadowCon. ;)
Cheers

Hi
I'll add my voice to the long tale of woes that is Amazon - been told my copy will arrive mid to end June. (I live in UK).
One thing I will say for Amazon in this case is the the amazing price - just over £18! I've got an Amazon credit for £15 (I do online consumer questionaires), so that's just over £3 for my copy! (Bought a pdf online to last me until late June).
If Paizo would allow us to pay by PayPal it might tempt more of us to order direct.
As for APG & Ult Magic -
So many choices, so little time!
Paul H
Hi
Just had a mesage from Amazon saying that my order is delayed. They recon I won't get my copy until about mid-end June, despite me preordering, and paying extra for first class post!
WHen I ordered they reconned for a delivery by May 20th.
Grrrr
Paul H
Hi
Looks like it's just about booked up now - something like only one game per day with free slots :(
At least I'll get my four games at ShadowCon the weekend before. :)
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
19:42 hrs here in UK
Cheers
Paul H
(Bit like Christmas all this waiting) :P
Hi
Yep, the new rules are posted tomorrow, but what 'time' tomorrow?
We in Uk are waaaay ahead in time zones to the US. Please don't say as of 'Pacific Central Time'
Thanks

Hi
Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but why not grant a +1 to a skill? Much less powerful, and might only last for a specific period. (Eg. expires one year after the mod was played).
Limit it to special scenarios, like the Venture Captains, or special conventions, and make the skill relevant. Eg, +1/Survival if the mod is in harsh desert or Mwangi.
Makes the mod much more memorable, especially if that particular mod has a specially designed Chronicle Sheet.
It's been done before in a (now finished) 'Living' campaign, and went down well.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Yep.
I've got a very nicely painted mini of the original Gandalf (a Dwarf), that the character is based on. Hence Bastard Sword, not a Great Sword.
Took the Wand thing for my arcana choice, so I can wield the sword in one hand, and use a wand the same time.
I just love Magii.......
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
Yayyayayayy! :)
Many thanks
(Very Happy)
Paul H
PS Now I can take Pwr Attack :)
Hi
Hope this is right place to post.
I took Heirloom Weapon (Bastard Sword) for my Magus (PFS campaign). Since these weapons grant proficiency, does this mean I don't have to take Exotic Wpn (B/Sword) to use it one handed? Or did it just grant 2H proficiency (Which Magii already have).
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
I thought as much. Thanks for the quick reply.
Paul H
Hi
The latest Organised Play doc talks about Player/GM credits. Do they mean the chronicle sheets, or the GM rewards system?
I suspect they mean both, but I just need to clarify.
Also, Godsmouth Heresy suggests that starter modules (level 1 characters) can be played by different characters, and chronicles issued. Does this supercede the rule that only 1 player & 1 GM credit?
Many thanks
Paul H
Hi
I used to play a lot of Elf Ftr/Mages from the Elf book in AD&D 2nd Ed. Magus reminds me of those happy days.
I love the look & feel of Magus, not quite a full wizard, not quite a full fighter. Improving the spell arcana lists would be a good idea.
I've got two Magii in PFS, a Dwarf just made 3rd level, and a halfling rogue 1 just went Magus. The first just average stats, uses Bastard Sword (for flavour), the halfling's dex based.
It's nice to be able to use a wand of shield, boost you weapon, then make an attack, all in the first round of combat. May not be a pure fighter, but it does what it does very good.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
@Faust: Yep - you're right. Must've been thinking of something else. But Chill Touch is still good choice because it lasts 1 attack/lvl.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
I've been looking at a (Sarenrae follower) Finesse Magus.
Wpn Finesse at 1st lvl (Heirloom Weapon Trait: Scimitar). At 3rd lvl take Dervish Dance (need 2 ranks dance). You now use Dex to Hit AND Damage. Useful, since you must have off-hand free. (Like Spell Strike).
Use Magus Arcana (gained 3rd lvl) to add Chill Touch to spellbook, then Spellstrike it.
So, 3rd lvl Human Magus, (Dex 18), using Arcane Pool, plus the above:
Attack (Scimitar)+9
Damage (Scimitar)D6+5 (+6 if +1 wpn) + Chill Touch
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
I love playing my Dwarven Magus in PFS. Got a well painted mini of Gandalf (Mythical DWARF Wizard), and play him as an older arcanist, and violence is such a chore.
Then round one of combat is: Cast Shield or Enlarge Person from Wand, Draw Bastard Sword, Arcane Pool to enhance weapon. Watching other players faces when the 'Arcanist' becomes a mean fighting machine is Priceless! :)
Thanks
Paul H
PS PFS chars retire at 12th lvl, so this is prob better than Eldritch Kniight combi's.
Hi
Not sure about the most powerful options, but I've got 2 Magii in PFS.
The first is a Dwarf (friend gave me V.Well painted mini of Gandalf). He uses Bastard Sword 2H. Just made 3rd lvl. pretty avge. stats, Str/Dex 14, Con 16, Int 15. Taken Toughness & Pwr Attack for Feats, not sure what to take for his Arcana ability, since he uses 2H weapon.
Second is Halfling Rogue 1/Magus 1. Took Wpn Finesse at 1st lvl. Got 2 ranks in Perform (Dance), so taking Dervish Dance at 3rd lvl. Much better for Spellstrike, since he needs one hand free for Dervish Dance. (Uses his Dex to Hit AND Damage with his Scimitar). With Cat's Grace & Shield spells up, together with Arcane Pool abilities & Sneak Attack, he's a damage dealer.
For the OP, 1H Bastard is good, or Falchion & Elven Curved Blade for 2H weapons. Thought that spell crit was always [20 x2], regardless of weapon crit range? Otherwise Lt & Hvy Picks & Falcata are good choices.
Thanks
Paul H
Hi
@ Steve Oh - I don't know.
Hordes of Dervishes charging on their camels, all followers of Sarenrae with that Scimitar feat (adds dex mod to damage). Plus all the Cavalier goodies. If the players don't take this concept, I'm sure it'll turn up in a scenario somewhere! LOL
Cheers
Paul H
Hi
Interesting thread. In Eberron campaign book (3.5) there were halflings who rode dinosaurs, but if the OP was looking for an awesome mount - why not just use the Summoner class?
(As an aside):
Halfling Dragonrider (that's right, Dragons)!
Take medium quadraped, add wings & riding mount abilities for 3 points. You've got a creature that looks like a Dragon, flies like a Dragon, with a nasty bite. At 1st level!
Later, just add Wing Buffet, Claw & Tail Swipe attackes, Breath Weapon, etc.
Mine takes the free weapon thingy Trait at first level, for a M/W Halfling Sling Staff, so he can do ranged attacks whilst flying.
Just a thought......
Paul H
Hi
No sure about the name. Gunslinger sounds luike Wild West. Musketeer/Pistoleer is more accurate.
So many ways to break this:
Gunslinger/Ranger
Gunslinger/Magus
Add Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Rapid Reload, and Haste & Improved Invis spells.......
Magii can use spells to enhance their weapon, Arcane Pool to add further enhancements. Magus 5/Gunslinger 5 even adds their Dex mod to damage.
Thanks
Paul H
