Congratz, Ben. Hopefully I'll be able to attend some PFS events here in Canberra soon.

I was just wondering if a player's guide will be released for this AP, and if so when will it be available?

Don't worry - just found an answer in a thread about it. Hopefully the week before GenCon, so less than 2 weeks. Great, can't wait for it!!

I am running this via PbF at RPGGeek.com and I have a question on Parani's companion, Talon - there are no tricks listed for Talon so do we assume it has Attack, but it's not listed. Or does she have to push it to get it to attack?

Running this via forum over at rpggeek.com and I have a few questions on this scenario and chases.

I was wondering where GMs start the PCs, in relation to the enemy, when starting Act 4: In a Narrow Alley and Act 6: Finale?

I am running it at Tier 1-2, so does Tersula get a surprise round as she is invisible?

Also, does Parani get a surprise round or only if she makes it to her preferred position?

It doesn't say that she uses her animal companion for any attacks, but I assume that she does? If so, does it attack from the start or only if she is in trouble?

Now to the chase. I've played Return of the Goblin Guild, so now how one proceeds but GMing one is another story.

I guess the thing that confuses me is the move 3 squares option. This is a full-round action, so I'm presuming that the PC has already moved through this square on a previous turn and not exited it - either took an action not related to the chase or failed the obstacle. So, if they pass both obstacles in square 1 they effectively bypass square 2 and end in square 3, ready to move next turn and take an action.
Have I got the gist of it?

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words and suggestions. Now to choose something.

Easy (but Fun) Scenarios for new GMs:

* Mists of Mwangi
* First Steps 2
* The Citadel of Flame
* The Penumbral Accords

There's also a list in the GM101 package of low-prep scenarios; I'd encourage you to take a look at that. Actually, as a new GM, I'd encourage you to take a look at the whole package - there's some great stuff in there.

One more thing: ask an existing GM to mentor you. Ideally, pick a scenario that they've GMed, but not played. Prep it, and talk through your prep process with them. Then, have them sit at your table when you run the adventure, and debrief with them afterward.

Thanks, Jeff. I have the GM 101 PDF, so I'll read it carefully. I'll be doing this by forum post, so I'll have plenty of GMs to ask questions of, as well as time. I have already asked quite a few for advice.

EDIT: Interestingly the GM 101 PDF says that "The Penumbral Accords" is a complicated scenario to run.

Good morning Paul!

I'd say look to Season-1 for good starter scenarios. That was the first season produced with Pathfinder RPG rules, but isn't overwhelmed by options from the advanced books.

I have a personal favourite in the "Devil We Know" series. It gives a series of 4 linked modules, lots of RP oportunities, combat, and background. If your players didn't know about the Aspis society before... they will now.

Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible is another favourite.

And good evening to you. Thanks for replying, Matthew. I guess I should have said that I don't want to start with a series as this is my first GM outing, and if I blow it then I'd feel better stopping after 1 if there was no further goodies.

Having said that, I hope I don't and I'll keep that in mind for a second foray.

Hi guys,

I'm a newb GM fullstop. I've been playing Pathfinder as PbF/PbP for the last year, including a dozen PFS scenarios.

I was wondering if you could advise me what scenarios (apart from the First Steps trilogy) would be good starters for someone completely new to GMing.

Many thanks in advance.
Paul

If you're starting at level 1, you could always just take the rapier and then upgrade to scimitar when you hit 3rd.

Good advice - it's probably better to get the attack bonus than the possible extra 2 damage.

As I mentioned in my first post I'm new to Pathfinder and I wasn't sure if I was reading things correctly or the tools I used were buggy.

Many thanks.

Looking at Dervish Dance, it allows the DEX bonus on attacks. But that isn't until 3rd level. In Walter's guide he has listed a +4 attack bonus using the scimitar at level 1 - can someone explain this for a simple noob.
I believe you are correct, and it sounds more like a simple oversight on the guide's part.

Cool, but darn. May as well take the rapier if you want the bonus, otherwise a long sword would be better for damage.

Hi guys, I'm building a Magus for a PFS scenario and I was using the Dervish build. The tools I've tried don't allow the use of Scimitar for Weapon Finesse to use the DEX bonus in attack calcs.
