Check out http://bonemanpress.com/ The not only have spell templates (avoiding square fireballs) they have - for lack of a better word - rulers that map from 0 ft to 60 ft. and every five feet in between. It has information on minuses that you get with certain weapons at those ranges etc.. They're heavy duty clear plastic with black writing... I've had mine for... about six years and they're still in fantastic condition. Shameless plug because I know and game with the guys. They usually have a booth at GenCon as well. Here is something I posted elsewhere: I added a house rule with -10 = death. On BBEG turn he hits you for massive damage. You go to -23. You have the next initive.. you bleed to -24.. yes you bleed. The party has until your next go to bring you above -10 or you die. Essentially... this is your death gurgle. Sure... a cure serious will get you fine. But.. is the cleric within 30 feet? Will he survive the attack of opportunity? So far.. I've had.. two or three players continue living because of this rule. But, it really hasn't come in issue too often. Actually.. one was something around -40ish... and they basically spent the round healing the character. Which gave the baddies a free round... puts them quite the spot. Essentially, even at lower levels, the party has the next round to heal you to bring you back up no matter what the damage was. Chris Self wrote: I would say the majority of urban and suburban residing Americans, yes. But I believe that's a smaller percentage than most believe. But I don't have any numbers to back that up. I'm still guessing that even in major cities - the ratio of office employees vs clerk type employees are the clerk type outweigh the office employees. Clerks can't generally carpool due to shift restrictions. Then we have the office employees - you could have some carpooling here - but I still think it's not enough. Ofcourse, I have no numbers either... I wish there was a study or something we could quote. What happens is eventually the middle to lower class Americans that drive older used cars because they cannot afford a newer car will no longer be able to afford the gas to get to their low paying job. So, now they can't even get their so they eventually lose their job. As I would guess that our nations public transportation isn't that great across the board. I know Indiana bites at it. So, now we have a good majority of Americans losing their jobs because they can't get there. Then.. they can't pay their bills...etc. All because gas is too expensive for their older gas guzzlers. Too bad they can't afford a $30,000* hybrid. Edit: *I don't know how much hybrids cost. It is very awful. I was just wondering if you thought he was insane at the time. His trial isn't so much if he's guilty or not. They know he did it. But, if he was insane at the time. So it's jail for life or mental institution for probably life. Edit: Side note: Do you think they need the added charge of "Hate Crime" Isn't all murder a hate crime? I don't think anyone kills in a fit of love... Tobus Neth wrote:

Drew, does paypal offer a debit card? I know they have a credit card... If not... drug stores (and some money type places) have debit type cards that are not "loans" or have percentages etc... Bascially, you go in... give the clerk money and your card they give you - they "load" it with that money.. and you can use it later for credit card like purchases. It doesn't have a bill you have to pay.. no contracts, monthly fees etc... it might cost like a dollar to load it Just a suggestion ~ Paul CAKE or DEATH?!? Stay. My players usually bring back ups anyway. As apparently I hate my players. In the current campagin no one has died perm. When I ran Shackled City.. I had what I called the "Wall o'Death" I had a good 15 - 20 (exact count escapes me) of character sheets taped to the wall. A lot of the deaths were simple player error... I had one guy that went through characters like toilet paper. Mostly because of his own error. Not because of save or die. I have had players die because of this however. I've had players get up and storm out. But, it's part of the game. I don't pull punches and if you tick off the local noble and he hires someone to kill you.. they're going to use everything they can to do the job. If that's buying a couple potions of invisibility, watching you closely for half a minute and then slitting your throat while you sleep. Hey.. thems the breaks. Shouldn't have ticked off the noble. Point is.. if my players could force a "Death Attack" to use the same example... they would.. as much as possible. Such is the way of players. I don't fudge rolls. I use everything in my arsenal.. not to kill my players. I hate character deaths. But, I don't and can't understand or believe why a BBEG wouldn't use everything within his arsenal. Below is yet another example from my current Red Hand of Doom campaign; Spoiler:
After Drellins Ferry the group went south to deliever the gold to the dwarves. Trying to lure the party away from just going straight to brindol (that way they didn't waste too much time) I had the dwarves having sent a group to investigate the Ghostlord. So, the party took over this contract and checks it out.
Here they fight the Behir - it eats the NPC Monk I had sent along with them as a frontline fighter as they really had none - and flies away. As such... it reports to what it has encountered. Also, right before they went in.. a group from the main army was heading to the GL to demand more ghostly uglies. It had a captive - the parties new cleric PC - and battle ensued. I was very close to a TPK. But, the party was starting to recover and win. The 8th level Ogre Cleric of Tiamat goes invis. watches the fight and leaves to report. Yes.. he also gets away. These two baddies report about the party where they're going.. and what they can do. The ogre cleric is sent towards rhest in the road block to watch for the party and to send word daily to make sure the party hasn't broken through. The Red Hand is ofcourse trying to protect the phylactery and doesn't want it returned to the lich. The party spends about two weeks doing other things before heading north. Plenty of time for these events to happen. Heading north.. they kill the cleric. They continue north, meet the elves, clear out rhest.. camp etc. The following did not happen as I decided I should not play the bad guys as I believe a real army would react. The army not getting their report sends a "platoon" of 50 hobgoblins north to deal with this meance. The Red Hand army has over a thousand soldiers minimum. A group of 50 is not a big deal. My party:
All the PCs are humans except the 9th level rogue and 7th level wiz. they're elves. The Badguys:
Ahead on the road is a "greeting party" of five. all have fighter levels
They demand the party leave the area and hand over a vital item. (The phylactory ofcourse) If they do they can leave with their lives.. if not.. they threaten death. On the left and right side of the road hidden behind an illusion and further behind the 'greeting' party also behind an illusion are three forces.
That's a total of 50 hobgoblins with class levels. They have knowledge of the party and have prepared as such. Ofcourse I didn't do this because most parties are ego-maniacs and wouldn't back down. Even though I thought that my party could handle this.. I also knew there was a chance I'd destory them.. very quickly.
My long-winded point (other than to tell a gaming story...) is to show that BBEG *should* use everything in their aresenal... if that's a save or die or save or stop spell.. so be it. You're not going to take your players wizard Sleep spell away are you? So, I took my wife to see Baby Mama which she loved. It was quite funny and just right considering she's pregnant with our fist child together. (I say it like that as I do have a 7 year old daughter that lives with us - but it's like it's all new all over again...) She's 9 weeks and earlier in the day we had an ultrasound.. saw the "naked molerat" as she lovingly calls the picture and heard the heartbeat. Then... on an impulse.. we snuck into The Forbidden Kingdom as we both love Jackie Chan and Jet Li. However, we left shortly after Jason was whacking the weeds with the staff. Jason was awful. Very awful and I felt Chan and Li, although they were trying very hard, couldn't save it. So, although I didn't spend the $14 matinee prices to see it with her.. I'm very glad I didn't. I'll probably watch it again on DVD. And that was a lot of information in a round-a-bout way just to say I didn't like the movie. :D I've had a couple of instances where I'm trying to reply to multiple threads. So I have Post A open in reply and Post B (which I tabbed open second...) I reply to Post A and hit submit.. but it actually tacks the reply onto Post B. Is this something I'm running into because of settings on my PC or something with the board. James Martin wrote: Have you tried asking around at the Game Preserve? I used to live in B'ton and that was always a good bet for finding games. Good luck! I've gone in there.. but I don't know if it's the employees.. or lingering because of the small space.. but the store stinks. It reeks of body odor.. and as such I try to stay out of there as much as possible. Avalon is gone now. The Game Preserve I actually like is in Greenwood and actually has gaming space (unlike b-town) but I already have one game (mine) that I drive decently far for already. tamskadi wrote:
Do you have another way to contact you? I'd be interested in giving it a shot. K wrote: Our DM denied us clerics Ouch! My party currently has a cleric that was a PC now turned NPC. I need to kill him off (I dislike playing npcs..) but he has armor with the Healing property - and - I'm what you might call a 'killer' dm even though my party hasn't suffered any permanent losses. But, many of them claim I hate my players. So I added a house rule with -10 = death. Healing Info inside..

I'm glad Scotland has good postal service. I think some of the issue with overseas shipping lies morein that country then it simply being overseas. Paizo has some of the best customer service - Which has been herald over and over again. But, beyond that.. where they really perform is their product. The put out quality product and promote gaming in a way that shows they care about gaming. RPGs in the past.. and it would seem currently as well... have been hosted by companies that seem to care less and less about gaming. Sure... they want a fun product... that makes them money. All in all... great company... great people... great product. It's a good time for gaming. Okay.. I'm done rambling. :D It's not listed... but everyone is able to get the beta for free. If you want a physical copy from Paizo - that will cost. I might buy the physical not only for gaming purposes.. but gaming history. I really see Paizo setting the standard for quite a few years. At least until DnD 5.0 comes out... then we'll see. Edit:

"yeah honey.. they're free adventures....." she just doesn't know why... hahah Edit: I know the hardcover isn't due out until 09... I was just wondering if this was going to get updated... and what *is* our schedule august product? The beta softcover?? Solomani - for conversions.. I'd suggest getting the errta download if you havn't already. It has all the encounters in a very easy to read format - that way converting is just.. okay.. this is this.. then this.. rather than trying to find every encounter in the book. Spoiler:
Now for RHoD - I love the module. I love the "sandbox" feel of it. My players went from drellins ferry to the ghostlord - dealing with the dwarves. Then went to brindol and tried to evacuate them. They were completely skipping Rhest. Luckily one of my players took a cohort and I made the cohort one of the Kitori elves that believed they should help but the main group didn't want to.. that brought them up north as they hadn't enough victory points to win. We havn't finished yet.. but I expect them to within the next few sessions. Even better.. the Red Hand is approaching Talar - but my party taking the gift of the owls is searching the wyrmsmoke mountains. I'm going to let them find the entrance and then have the main elf contact them via scry/message and ask for help. Will they try to cut of the head and leave brindol to the slaughter? Will they come to their aid? I really enjoy this module... granted I add a lot of high level minons in the army that deploy their own search groups that they run into. But, I highly recommend it. I ownly wish I had bought this through Paizo instead of Amazon to get my autographed copy... : ( James... if I bring it to gencon... think you might go ahead and sign it? :D I would want to keep it the same.. but houserule as you please. For example; I challenge my players rolls. They roll their die and I roll one.. they get the higher of the two. We also always re-roll '1's. They seem fairly happy with that.. even if we both roll a '2' on a d12. They had two chances to get higher.. so they feel alright about it. rclifton wrote: They could certainly kill GenCon permanently by not attending. I really don't see WotC killing GenCon.. It's growing... EATERoftheDEAD wrote:
Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier.. but is that link to your guide you mentioned earlier in this thread? I was wondering if anyone has made or would make a pdf similar to the bonus for Red Hand of Doom. Basically, it takes the order in which you'll typically do the encounters (by section) and puts the stats of those baddies together. Very handy for those baddies that appear multiple times so you don't have to flip back and forth. I have a seperate three-ring binder that I break out for the fights in RHoD and it saves time and wear on the book. The Hardcover could deff. benefit from something along these lines I'd attempt to make it but my copy of PDF maker is on the wifes computer and I'm not allowed to use it.. haha And I'd like someone who has neat design skills to put it together.. mine would look like a word doc and not very pretty. Rauol_Duke wrote: Um... you could have also called them (at the number on the bottom of the page) or emailed them (at the address at the bottom of the page) to cancel. As an aside - I'm his friend. I also didn't know about the phone or email option. But, I do know he works third shift so phoneing wouldn't be a possibility. I guess he could've emailed. When he asked me how to cancel I simply knew of the Message Board avenue and explained that to him. Corey Young wrote:
Corey, I believe it was more along the lines of not being able to cancel in the same manner he signed up. I've had a similar problem with an ISP in the past - I could sign up via online but to cancel I had to snail mail them a letter stateing that I wanted to cancel and why and sign it. I think it was his shift that made it difficult and then he forgot his password I believe. So by the time he got around to it he seemed kinda miffed. Other than that, I still believe in Paizos amazing customer service. Despite a few hiccups! ; ) I'm really liking the Pathfinder RPG thus far. But, I know my gaming group doesn't want to switch rules at all. So - since I'm the GM and I like to have little to no work converting stats and the like... What sort of disadvantage (and how bad..) would my players be at having 3.5 characters fighting Pathfinder NPCs?
