What if you don't even have a smurfing avatar? Will they still smurf you?

I didn't mean that if they don't do X they're dead. I just meant that if they don't do X - the story still moves ahead without them.

I try and create a very realistic world.. meaning that say I'm running a long campaign that when they're 15th or so level off in a nearby cave that they're told about or whatever.. a dragon lives there.

If they go there at level 1... the dragon still lives there.

I just meant I don't shape my world in the aspect that it's on the players time. I don't railroad them into decisions.. but if they decide to rest, not do something etc... the BBEG could possibly win.

That's all I meant really.

Yeah; would she rather you came home with a DMG, or an STD?

Haha that struck me very funny.

*deep inhale* Mmmm I love the smell of threadomancy in the morning!

If this is possible, I'd want it without a doubt. Actually, to see it included in the Pathfinder Modules subscription would make me a happy monkey.

To the OP - have you taken a look at the FR Campaign Setting.. they have stats and information to play a drow, and I'm sure it's elsewhere as well.

All 3.*

Just realized I'm not really being coherant... stupid lack of sleep...

Just ignore my ramblings... :D

Yeah, I can see that. Luckily, my wife tolerates my gaming. Although she doesn't like it when we game late - and she isn't too fond on my Pathfinder addiction..

But, honestly... and ofcourse wives are very different and we all have to learn how to explain ourselves very differently.. I've never found the "I could be doing 'y'" as a legitmate rebuttle and argument(for lack of a better word) ender.

Like I said.. that's my experience. If there are wives that will accept that... your are very very lucky. Mine would throw a fit! haha

Ok this is freaking me out.

I have never been to the Gen Con Indy but all the rooms are booked up now!?! Is that that many of us or is there less room then there was at Milwaukee? I was at Milwaukee several times and 3 of the 4 I was right down town and walking distance to the event, sometimes a good 20 min walk but totally do able. I'm not going this year but I was thinking of next year and was wondering if the rooms get filled up this way all the time?

thanks

Yeah, actually GenCon Indy is so big.. it's actually outgrowing the convention center. I think the attendence last year was somewhere between 30 and 40 thousand.

Who knows for this year.. I'm just glad I'm local

A 15 minute adventuring day is a problem of adventure design. Static dungeons only encourage the PC's to leave and come back when rested. If a group does that the intelligent denizens of a Dungeon Complex need to address this. Either they reinforce the already "cleared" sections or the become proactive and find out where the attackers came from and counterstrike.

Nothing gets PC's a bad reputation more than pissing off the Goblinoids of the Caves of Chaos and heading back to the Keep only to find that the hobgoblins and bugbear bosses of the Caves come out after them and raid the village, burn some fields, or steal some livestock and kill some farmers/merchants/experts.

PC's use a Rope Trick to rest in the dungeon? Good, sound tactic that should serve them well for at least a little while. Eventually however the bad guys should try to track them down in the dungeon. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

A Monstrous ranger or even simple guard animals with scent can be used to Track PC's. When the trail just disappears into thin air even the crudest of humanoids will assume magic is at work. Enter the shaman/cleric/mage of the tribe. A Spellcraft check in combination with a Detect Magic can solve a lot of problems as can simple divinations like Augury. Setting up a discreet watch on the area a group of PC's disappeared from should be an easy enough matter as could a well placed Alarm spell.

Exactly! The 15 minute adventuring day is a fault of not the players - but the DM. You want to go save the world? You need to do it soon.. because the BBEGs work longer than the first hour of the day.

I don't care what level the party is - the circumstances will always be equal (unless they hunting things outside their level) and as such baddies should and will take precautions.

As for the original poster's dillema, have you tried pointing out that gaming (used in moderation) is a lot better way for you to utilize your spare time rather than 'traditonal' male pursuits? Some husbands go to bars, poker nights, bowling, sports events, strip clubs, etc. etc. leaving their families behind. Gaming seems relatively benign considering some of the alternatives. You can't get in too much trouble slaying imaginary creatures, whereas a night at the bar can lead to DUI, hangovers and acts commited with lack of judegement.

In my short amount of time being married and my more extensive experience dating... I've found that it's not really a good idea to justify your hobbies by saying "I could be doing worse!"

It's not a good idea, IMO.

I liked my Half-Orc Bard that performed in Haiku...

Lisa, that should be just in time for the fourth adventure path correct?

I'd check... but I figure it'd be nice to have handy in this thread. :D

Bumping your thread effectively puts you at the bottom of the queue. Just so you know.

Thought I'd share a little gaming story.

I ran this awhile back as a one-shot.

The players;
Flesh Golem - using the Savage Species rules.
Were-cat of some kind.. I forget which. Had some class levels.
Dwarven Barb.

So.. the thing that really sticks with me is the magic rug.

This item is laying in the floor of one of the rooms and if you step on it, (if you fail your save), you are sucked into the rug. The dwarf found this out and they had a heck of a time getting him out.

What turned out to be just a random type trap turned out to be the item that saved the players...

The golem picked up the carpet. Being 100% to magic and tech. not alive... carried it and used it as a weapon. He swung it as a bat.

So, here we are.. going through the tomb whacking the occasional baddie and sucking them into the rug.

Once the other two members of the party were teleported to the other side of the dungeon.. I had to make a secret passage for the golem. Not that big of a deal.

The end game...

I brought out all the stops... I bombarded the party with everything I could thing to throw at them. The final move?

The big bad had constructed a perm. rock wall trapping the were-cat on the other side. The big bad was floating near the ceiling on the other side.

The were-cat had the mud ring and changed the wall into stairs. The golem walked up the stairs.. hit the big bad with the rug.

Failed save.. the heros win the day.

I just liked the item being used in a way it most likely wasn't intended. So, I thought I'd share. Sorry it's random.. but it's been six or seven months.

Thanks for the Mag list. I *do* have all three. Just overlooked one.

And thanks a lot for the 'http://www.oerthjournal.com/oj23.html' bit. Very excited about this.

I houseruled that sure... the baddie takes you to -23 if before your next turn on init. (when you would roll to stablize between -1 to -9) if the party can heal you above -10 you don't die.

I've always considered it.... I can't think of the word I'm looking for.. but hit points are just a fluid thing. Sure.. you get hit five times for ten points.. Your hitpoints go down.. but is that what your character is REALLY doing? Perhaps its the DND way of describing the rolling with a blow or ducking an arrow... etc... and the one arrow that actually kills him is the one arrow that actually hits. It's fantasy... Hit points are just another way of describing the characters ability to dodge, roll with, or evade attacks. Not a straight forward way of telling how many arrows a gnome fighter can take before falling.

But, that's in the way you look at it.

I have prepared extensively with a big player's guide and lots of prep work on the low level part of the campaign, the beginning. I hope I'm ready.

I'd like to see this players guide. I have one that I've looked over and I've ran the campaign before, but I'm also interested in what other DMs do as to enrich the experience of my players.

By my count I see two Dungeon Magazines that have Maure content. Anything I missed?

Has anyone created "fan" levels? I expect to run Maure Castle within the next several months and would like any ideas that I can grab ahold of.

First things first: CERK as a big hardcover mega-dungeon is a GOAL of a long-term relationship between Rob and Paizo. It will literally take years for this thing to be completed, it is not officially on a schedule, and likely will not appear on a schedule for at least a year or more.

Still, it's going to be awesome.

The books we release with Rob will be compatible with whatever core system Paizo is going with at the time. Right now that system is 3.5. When we've had a chance to look at fourth edition and the OGL associated with it we will make a decision about which is the best way forward for Paizo and its readers.

So the books will be in those systems.

For a project like this, though, I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to get C&C and Osric conversions for them, as I know Rob's audience has a lot of crossovers into those games.

--Erik

Well, its been awhile. What is the likelihood of Paizo publishing a current edition (3.5) version of this? Or even working with Rob to do a 3.75/3.P version of Maure Castle?

I'd be interested in reading your re-write. Any chances of you posting/hosting it somewhere?

Interesting. I've heard that they've trademarked the name/phrase/whatever.. but wasn't 100% sure. It's like trademarking the acronym DND.

Is Dungeon Master trademarked?

Thanks Vic! That seems like an excellent idea as well. If it is ready for GenCon '09 do you (Paizo) have any ideas set up for playtesting at the convention? Games, encounter runs.. etc..

Rynthief wrote:
The Bard is the ultimate example of a Pathfinder

Yes, and we have a bard in the current pregen list of characters. But, it's not a gnome. It's a halfling. I find that much more fitting.

Thanks. I was sure it was answered at some point... but I really couldn't go looking at the moment. Just was thinking about it so I asked.

Any chance of this getting out to us before GenCon Indy '09? It'd be great to not only be able to have a booth and sell the product to GenCon goers but also bring my copy and have you guys sign it.

Oh... even better is if I could set up a 3.75 game to run at GenCon..

When dungeon went out I remember hearing something that the Pathfinder APs will continue to go from first to twenty.

RofRL - The final adventure is for characters 14 - 15 level.

I'm not seeing anything (at a quick glance) for CotCT or SD, but the PF#8 is set to run the entire course of the AP. So, I'm going to guess it's not going to level 20 either.

Just something I was thinking about recently.

See.. we agree.

That's pretty much how we do gnomes now.

Any other thoughts on this? Anyone have reasons why Bard is a good class for gnomes?

Haha.. yes I read that. You guys made some little barely noticeable announcment recently about something to that effect. :D

Havn't read all the posts.. but a lot. Just wanted to say something about why the forces of all the evil guys don't lay the smack down on the little group of PCs when they get the chance.

Hubris.

Yes.. the orc army could scry on you. They could send a contingency of 100 and stomp you out.

But, they don't. Because you're four nothings that don't warrant attention.

There are lots of reasons behind what evil guys do.

I'm going to suggest that for the PRPG you guys change the gnomes favored class back to illusionist. Or wizard at least. Bard never sat well with me. So, yeah.. I house rule it. But, it'd be great to see it in print.

Thoughts?

Never had issue with it. Part of being the wizard was choosing when to cast your higher level spells and when to do something else. Sure, you don't want to get into melee.. but plan ahead.. make and save wands.. use ranged attacks. I always found those that cast their only two fireball spells in the first two rounds of the first fight encounter not playing their wizards smart. I don't know... just the way I see it.

I really got into this module. As far as it being difficult... well that's what the other NPC's are for. Aside from not everything the PCs see they should be able to kill. I find it's very good at teaching that as well.

My only complaint is I don't have a group that isn't so jaded that I could run this.

I'll just have to wait and hold on to this little gem.

There are useful applications of the heal skill. Just not as often as that.

As far as using it to regain HP. I don't know.. the best I think I would allow is using it once per day to heal yourself. But, really that's getting too close to a lay on hands ability.

But yeah.. you've came up with the rules.. just houserule it and go.

No no.. it's fine. You guys got a lot going on and it was a pretty big order.

It shipped out yesterday. Thanks again guys. Great service!

Just wanted to post and say I'm very pleased with this.

Thanks guys.

Alright. Which brings up a second question. If I'm not waiting on W2 & PF8 - is it just simply getting the shipment together to ship? I'm only asking as it's been awhile since I've updated my CC# and have recieved a couple items from you guys.

Thanks again

I have a list of pending items.

GameMastery Module U2: Hangman's Noose (OGL) Print Edition (Pending)
GameMastery Module J3: Crucible of Chaos (OGL) Print Edition (Pending)
Pathfinder #6—Rise of the Runelords Chapter 6: "Spires of Xin-Shalast" (OGL) Print Edition (Pending)

Pathfinder #7—Curse of the Crimson Throne Chapter 1: "Edge of Anarchy" (OGL) Print Edition (Pending)
Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide to Korvosa (OGL) Print Edition (Pending)
Pathfinder Chronicles: Harrow Deck (Pending)

Are these going to ship with;

GameMastery Module W2: River into Darkness (OGL) will be the next module to ship
(Pathfinder) Volume #8 will be the next volume to ship
Pathfinder Chronicles: Classic Monsters Revisited (OGL) will be the next product to ship

I'm just curious if I can expect all of the above to be shipped at the same time.

I have my shipping status as "Hold subscription items for monthly shipment " I'm not going to get back-logged and have to wait until the Pathfinder Companion comes out am I?

I don't believe so.. as usual with pre-orders they simply sit there. But, with it claiming it will ship I just wanted to check if it was a bug or not.

Also, thanks for the free first issue that's been promised, and here's hoping you're not switching to 4e.

Thanks! :D

This was too funny not to mention. I laughed out loud... hard.

Well done. :P

Just checking to see if we've been updated on what edition these will be.

Okay. I had thought I had updated the cc info. So - it should all be kosher now.

Thanks

Anything?

So, I had quite a backlog of items. I've had my shipping option as hold for one monthly shipment for a long while.

However, I was just billed and shipped for two items. Are the rest out of stock? Am I waiting until April to get the rest? What's the deal here?

I have that option to avoid paying a lot in shipping and handling. Let me know. Thanks

You cannot use paypal. However.. you could have paypal send you one of their cards. That you could probably use.

So.. it took longer than expected.

Again, I am astounded by the amazing service Paizo offers.

Thanks not only for the answers.. the ability to still get the benefits from my subscriptions (even though my payments are on... ''hold'') but also for the amazing above and beyond service that surpasses any other company I've ever dealt with.
