About Paris CrenshawParis Crenshaw is a United States Naval Officer, currently stationed on USS BOXER (LHD 4), homeported in San Diego, California (as of January 2009). He is married and has two young children (twin daughters). Paris is also a Freemason in San Diego Lodge #35. Paris started gaming at the tender age of 14. His first RPG experience was with the Phantasia roleplaying game, published in the back of Darksword Adventures by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. His adventures in Thimhallan were short-lived, however, as he was about to be introduced to Dungeons & Dragons with the release of 2nd Edition AD&D. The advent of AD&D 2nd Ed also brought the revised Forgotten Realms campaign setting, followed by countless adventures, therein. Paris and his friends spent many years throughout high school and into college reshaping the Realms, growing what would eventually come to be known as Epic characters. During his sophomore year of college, Paris began working in a local gaming store in Blacksburg, Virginia and had the good fortune to get to know Shane Hensley, Charles Ryan, Angel McCoy, and Hal Mangold, among others. Through these industry greats, he was exposed to many other gaming systems: World of Darkness, Masterbook, Earthdawn, and the still-in-playtest Deadlands. Paris tried his hand at writing RPG material and was published in volumes 3 and 4 of the Earthdawn Journal in 1995. His articles were highly rated, and his article on the Spy discipline even inspired volume #3's cover art. At the end of 1995, he was awarded the opportunity to write a vampire home world sourcebook for West End Games' Necroscope line of Masterbook products. Although he completed the first draft of that book, West End Games' financial difficulties culminated in their filing for bankruptcy in 1996 and the book was never published. Since 1996, the call of duty and the impact of seagoing life have kept Paris' gaming activities limited to running and playing games. He returned to Dungeons & Dragons with the release of Third Edition and has used the d20 system solely since then. As of March 2008, and especially since the release of D&D 4e, he has become a vocal supporter of the Pathfinder RPG and all Paizo products (yes, he's a fanboy). Paris continues to develop his own RPG settings, utilizing the d20 rules. He hopes one day to return to writing articles for publication, and even has wild dreams of writing novels and childrens' books. For now, however, he contents himself with play-by-post gaming on RoleplayMarket.com, where he is also known as "Niverian," and the occasional table-top session. Meanwhile, he thoroughly enjoys his responsibilities as a family man and military officer. |
