I just tried to add an alias for a PbP to my PM address book, but it added the primary id instead of the alias. For instance, if you tried to add Crotalus (one of my alias), what would actually be added to your address book is Papa-DRB. Can this be changed? Adding the alias is especially nice for PbPs. thanks, -- david
If I want to get directly to the Pathfinder Paper Mini products, I can input: http://paizo.com/store/downloads/pathfinder/pathfinderPaperMinis Could you put some kind of direct link to the Pathfinder Pawns also? I currently have to input: http://paizo.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Store.woa/wa/search?q=pawns&include Unrated=true&what=products&f=productType%2FMiniatures+Box+Sets& includeUnavailable=true&sort=0 and weed out the two Dr. Lucky entries. Also, a subscription to the Pathfinder Pawns would be wonderful! -- david
PCGen v5.17.12 is an alpha release with a difference. We continue to improve our new user interface! Some of the more noticeable changes are: Added kits support
The new user interface does most of what you are used to, but we still have to get familiars, companions and temporary mods working. It is important to remember that this is an alpha in the industry standard sense and will have rough edges. We are putting it out for feedback but recommend you don't pick it up for your regular game use just yet. PCGen is an RPG character generator and maintenance program (d20 systems). All datafiles are ASCII text files so they can be modified by users for their own campaigns. For more information about PCGen, join us at our Yahoo group:

Trackers (JIRA) bugs open for the New UI:
Near the middle of Chapter 1 the group consisted of a Paladin, Wizard, Druid, Ranger and DM NPC Cleric (player requested!), and into Chapter 2. The Paladin became the Baron, Cleric the Councilor, the others and the NPCs as appropriate and all was well. As the Paladin was a widower before the campaign started, I wove a thread into the campaign where the sister of Maegar Varn was an ambassador to the PCs barony and the Baron wooed her and they are getting married, and the two Baronies have set up friendly relations, which eventually will lead into Chapter 3 when a trade caravan reports that Varnhold is empty except for monsters. Now the problems. Problem 1: The player of the Paladin had to leave the group, so the Baron and Baroness-to-be are both NPCs. Problem 2: I rolled an assassination attempt, and rolled randomly against the rulers and dang if it didn't end up with the Baron. Now it it is successful, I know the rest of the players and they will be very suspicious of the Baroness-to-be and perhaps break off the alliance with Varn and throw the Baroness-to-be out of the kingdom unless there is a *very* obvious clue that it wasn't her. If it is not successful, I still have Problem 1, ie. two NPCs leading the Barony. Any suggestions, thoughts, etc? Should I "fudge" the roll one way or the other? Help!? -- david
I am creating a druid in case my current character dies (he has been close a couple of times and he has a do not raise clause). I have two ideas. Both include an animal companion, but for one idea the companion is a Velociraptor and the other the companion is a Tiger. Harking back to WotC FR setting there was specifically a god of dinosaurs (Ubatao sp?) and I was just wondering for Golarion is there a deity similar to that one, for either dinosaurs or tigers? I know that Gozreh would work, but I would like something more specific. Thanks, -- david

Game at my house, which is near Marist College on Monday nights from 6pm to 9pm weekly. All of us are 40+ years old. There is a DM and 3 players, as 1 player had to drop out. We play two campaigns, on alternate weeks, by different DMs. I run a Kingmaker campaign, currently in the 2nd book @ 5th level. I play in a Serpent Skull campaign, currently in the 2nd book @ 4th level. Send me an email to papa_drb@yahoo.com if interested and we can meet for coffee. -- david
The PRD wrote: Summon Monster 1: This spell summons an extraplanar creature (typically an outsider, elemental, or magical beast native to another plane). The PRD wrote: * This creature is summoned with the celestial template if you are good, or the fiendish template if you are evil; you may choose either if you are neutral. Ok, lets look at the Dire Rat. It is a small animal, and a good wizard summons it so it has the Celestial template. Now the Celestial template does NOT confer the Magical Beast type, and there are no Magical Beasts in the Summon Monster list. Going back to 3.5, the spells actually summoned a "celestial xxxx" which was a Magical Beast, but with Pathfinder, the specific creatures were dropped and they were templated. So my question is, what kind of creature is it? Extrplanar, yup. But is it still considered an animal, or is it a magical beast? -- david
PCGen 5.17.10 (Alpha) marks the PCGen team's shift of focus to the next developmental cycle. Download your free copy HERE. One of the primary goals for this cycle (5.17.x/6.0) includes the completion of 'under-the-hood' architectural changes begun in 5.14.x and continued through 5.16.x. These changes, though for the most part invisible to the user, will make way for some long needed changes in the user experience as work begins on overhauling the User Interface and the LST Editors. Another benefit of the changes underway as part of this development cycle will be a furthering of PCGen's flexibility when working with the d20 rules system, but will in the end, also make it easier to adapt PCGen to the myriad rules system used throughout the gaming industry. Edit: this began perhaps a week, or less, ago. I am displaying the "Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Bestiary 3 (OGL)" page and there is a "List PDF" link that looks like (if you read the mouse over) a link to add the Bestiary to a wishlist for my ID. When I click on the link it throws me back to a random page, usually the Pathfinder RPG or a Forum page, and then I look at My Account and there is no wishlist nor that item. Am I doing this wrong, or am I just missing something? -- david

I left Varisia but on the way to the island, the ship crashed on this forsaken island. I was able to grab my armor, shield and sword before the ship sank and I ended up on the shore with a several other survivors, all sailors. On the shore, we were able to pick up rations, a waterskin and some gear. I tried to keep the protect the sailors and keep them alive, but they were not capable of using weapons effectively and a winged creature has been after us and killed all the other survivors. I have been able to barely fend it off, however with the help of a dryad named Aycenia who has been healing me and providing a safe place to rest at night, I managed to survive. Aycenia has told me of others that were ship wrecked on the island, about eighty days before me. She has been in contact with them via her ways, and she tells me that they are coming soon. I await their arrival and our leaving this island of death so I may continue with Gorum's plan for me. Kuthona 29 (Day 87)

The Animal Domain for level 8 says: "Animal Companion (Ex): At 4th level, you gain the service of an animal companion. Your effective druid level for this animal companion is equal to your cleric level – 3. (Druids who take this ability through their nature bond class feature use their druid level – 3 to determine the abilities of their animal companions)." Do they use the Druid or Ranger animal companion list? My initial reaction is to use the Druid list since it does not specifically limit the animal companions like the Ranger does. -- david

This was posted earlier to three of the Yahoo PCGen groups. I am re-posting here to ask for this community's help.... === Hi, We're nearing the point of having Pathfinder Core Sets (Core Rules and Bestiary) advance to the d20ogl folder [Full Release Status]. For this to normally happen a Data Chimp gives it a thorough testing - this is a long and time consuming process. This will still happen, and it's likely going to be this Data Chimp [me], but I'd like to enlist our community to give the Core Rules a thorough rules thrashing. Any and all bugs should be brought up as well as any Features that seem to be missing should also be brought up. I figure we have a rather large group of people already using the sets, so why not put their every day use into a productive gain. So, please, if you want to improve Pathfinder, list any bugs or features that you think are missing. For completeness sake do the following for reporting- * Please List the PCGen Version (i.e. 5.16.4, 5.17.6, 5.17.7-dev [if -dev what svn build or autobuild date])
I appreciate everyone's involvement in the project, and frankly, without the volunteers some things would not get done in a timely manner. Remember the focus is on PATHFINDER Core Rules and the Bestiary. Other sets are outside the scope of this request at the present time. Feel free to continue to submit bug reports as normal for those at http://jira.pcgen.org Cheers, -- Andrew Maitland (LegacyKing)

Setup: My group (I am the DM) was attacked by a naturally invisible creature, at night, called a Baykok, that is visible only to the person it attacked and then only for one round. The Paladin gets attacked, so he can see it for one round, and uses his Detect Evil ability. Moderate aura (4 HD, aligned undead) so he directs folks to where he sees it, even though others cannot. After a swing from the Ranger and others the Baykok decides to leave and come back another day. The Problem: The Paladin wants to "track" the creature via it's lingering aura (d6 minutes), and we ended the session here. Now I need to rule on his "tracking" of the creature. My thoughts are:
#2 is just *so* dissatisfying to me. Any suggestions? The other thing that I wonder about, *IS* there a lingering aura at all? The text in the Detect Evil spell says: "Lingering Aura: An evil aura lingers after its original source dissipates (in the case of a spell) or is destroyed (in the case of a creature or magic item). If detect evil is cast and directed at such a location, the spell indicates an aura strength of dim (even weaker than a faint aura). ..." That could be interpreted as unless the item/creature no longer exists (IE. dissipated or destroyed) then only the spot where it last was has the aura and no where else. Thoughts? -- david
Core Rulebook, Page 213/214. For spells with TARGET(S) you have to SEE or TOUCH the target. For Area spells the text is: Regardless of the shape of the area, you SELECT the point where the spell originates, but otherwise you don’t control which creatures or objects the spell affects. I don't want to open Pandora's Box, but does SELECT mean you have to see the point (grid intersection) or can you cast the spell even if there is intervening fog or darkness? That goes to the Line of Effect statement. -- david

February 7th, Traine description and background. Description Traine is a young human male. He is very muscular, and at 6 feet tall stands over most of the folks he meets. He is wearing a chain shirt, barely visible under his explorer's outfit that is colored in browns and greens. He has a well made falchion on his hip, and a longbow strung over his shoulder. That along with his pack and pouches, makes him look like a man who is ready for anything. However, his open friendly smile belays the somberness of his clothing. Biography The Journal of Traine, started whilst on board the ship Jenivere, sailing to Eleder, at the suggestion of my last master. Greetings to any reading this journal. I am Traine, a Ranger in the service of Gozreh. Originally I am from Longpoint, a village along the western coast line of the Aspo Bay in Andorian, and was known as Traine dan Torcan (Traine son of Torc). If you find this journal, it means that I am dead. Please try and return it to my father. My story begins in my 16th year, and as normal for our village I began training in the ways of hunting the accursed Saughin that raided our small village during the summer season. I have been blessed by Gozreh and became quite good at tracking, finding, approaching stealthy, and finally killing these beasts that hunted our village. By my 18th birthday, I was in charge of a patrol that scoured the shoreline for them, and my father asked me to take my younger brother Carl, who had just turned 16, with me and teach him our ways. This I refused for two reasons, brothers should not train brothers, it just doesn't work, and more importantly, Carl was not suited for the woods. He had learned to sing and play the flute. He even had learned a magic trick or two, so he should have spent his time performing in the taverns or gone on to the big city and worked there and I told da as much. Well, da was not to be denied, and Carl was sent out with another patrol, and only the leader and 1 other man returned. Eight of our young men died, including Carl. Myself and two other patrols were dispatched and we caught up with the Saughin group and destroyed them, but never recovered all the bodies including Carl's. My da never forgave me and turned me out so I left to explore the world. Since then, I have traveled to many lands, including the great city of Absalom, which led me to understand that I don't like cities, Osirion, where I learned to use the falchion quite well, to the Mwangi Expanse, where I have finished my apprenticeship for being a guide, and am now on my way to Eleder in Sargava, where I understand that a group of Pathfinders wish to explore the Expanse and perhaps I can hire out as a guide. Is PCGen going to Gen Con this year? The reason this is being posted at this time is because the time to qualify for the re-booking rate for a booth is on January 26th, and is fast coming up. The Board feels that having a booth at GenCon is a benefit, there is always an increased level of new users, new coders, and a better relationship with publishers that face to face to face contact always brings. But since this primarily the users project we felt that we should get input and support from the users. So here's the breakdown. Booth cost $1400 ($700 by 1/26)
The booth comes with two badges included, and those would be available for the people will volunteer at the booth for most of the con. Karianna (BoD Chair) is graciously willing to match dollar for dollar any donations like she has in the previous years when we had a booth. And another way to be able to help is to burn CD's of PCGen for us to hand out. Gamers love free stuff! :) So we're looking for

When a Good Wizard casts Summon Monster and the creature is one with an * in the table it receives the Celestial Template. So for instance a Wizard casts Summon Monster I for a Dire Rat, it has the template. Can the Dire Rat use the Smite Evil part of the Template, assuming the Wizard has no way of communicating with it? I am having a difficult time assuming that an animal intelligent creature (int=2) would use the ability. -- david

If a PC dies and is reincarnated from a human and is now a half-elf does he get the free Skill Focus feat that Half-Elves got at 1st level? I can understand Elf Blood, Elf Immunities and Keen Senses, but the other 1st level "traits"? Same kind of question for the other races. What is considered extraordinary abilities and the like, as per the spell? -- david
PCGen 5.17.4 (Alpha) marks the PCGen team's shift of focus to the next developmental cycle. Download your free copy here: One of the primary goals for this cycle (5.17.x/6.0) includes the completion of 'under-the-hood' architectural changes begun in 5.14.x and continued through 5.16.x. You can see all of the changes included in this release by checking out the release notes. PCGen is an RPG character generator and maintenance program (d20 systems). A Dire Tiger has Grab as a Special Attack. Form the Bestiary: Melee 2 claws +18 (2d4+8 plus grab), bite +18 (2d6+8/19–20 plus grab) If the Tiger hits with both claws *and* the bite, does it grab (grapple) twice? Does the creature being grappled have to break both grapples? If the tiger chooses to only grab with say the 2 claws, it can then do rake and bite damage, right? -- david
