IRONHARD wrote:
Cant post any more at the moment

Otto, always fretful, paces back and forth, eying each of his companions in turn, searching for... something. "Did I ever tell you about this amulet? he will ask anyone who looks interested, sitting down on a stone and unwrapping it from the linen kerchief.

Otto mumbles something about "Magic long lost to the lands..." as he walks past the brutish half orc, he grins and stops. "My little spies have many eyes. Here, meet my Mize, Thing 1 and Thing 2!" So saying, he flourishes out his hand and launches the two mice onto the half-orc's shoulder, cloak, hat, etc. After a few seconds of capering, he will whistle a high tune and call them back to him with a vast whipping corner of his cloak.

"Camp or move on, my stout hearts? Tis late in the afternoon and my stomach grumbles, even the leucrotta's rotting stench of yester eve brings fond recollections."

((I do not have my dice here at work (LOL) but I would like to make a spell-craft chack to see if I can determine the type of faint magic.))

"I feel something, lads! Come, help me dig out whatever it is, there is magic here, I can FEEL it!" Otto frantically circles the area, looking for anything that might suggest magic. He will poke, prod, turn over the stones till he can find what it is. Otto does not like to leave mysteries unsolved, and ESPECIALLY does not like to leave magic which could empower himself. He will also send his mice scurrying down and around the stones, though he is not hopeful that the barely trained creatures will find anything useful, still any port in a storm!

If more than half an hour is spent with no additional signs, he will become discouraged and give up, ready to move on or have dinner, whichever the rest decide. "This infernal inactivity is putting us all into a funk!" he will exclaim, stomping his foot.

"Tis only a short walk up the hill and I am curious about those stones as well. The view might also prove useful."

Otto approves going up the hill and will look for any opportunity for some action. Upon investigating, if anything seems even the slightest out of the ordinary he will cast detect magic as soon as possible. He will have his spear out and used as a walking stick.

"All right comrades, I think we got lost what with all the rain yesterday, but we should make town today... I hope! Keep your eyes peeled and ready for anything. There could be prying eyes watching us. I have noticed a particularly foul raven of late that seems to be watching us."

"Welcome one, welcome all! We have a warm fire, tankards of ale and a nice sizzling leucrotta on the fire. Additionally, we are all on a quest gauranteed to make us rich, famous, and powerful beyond imagination, here read this if you can..." takes out adventurer-seeking document and passes it around. "Now tell me that doesnt sound like an excellent way to spend some time."

Otto turns to the new-comer boasting of magic knowldege. "I know a little magic too, friend, or should I say it knows me." ((Casts prestidigitation on hand to wreath it momentarily in purple sparks.))

With introductions made, Otto will settle back into sleep with absolutuely no intention of rising again until daylight. He will pull the cloak over his head to muffle any unwanted sights or sounds as needed.

Hi I'm Jason 36, out of Kansas City Missouri, USA. I am normally a DM from the old days, totally skipped 2nd edition (was marrying, having kids etc at the time) but came back recently with 3rd edition. We have a Friday nite p-n-p game that I DM, just started, and I saw this and share Ironhard's love of Necromancer so that I just HAD to play! The game is off to a rollicking start and I am looking forward to it.

I am also hoping to find a 4ed p-b-p to try out so I can get some hands-on with the new flag-ship.

"We fear no man nor beast, step up and let us judge you by the light, stranger. Mayhap we will all count new friends before the night's end!" That said, Otto stomps over to the fire and watches the corpse burn for a moment, then sinks back down to his bedroll with a sigh.

Since the beast is in pretty close combat and I dont want to strike the paladin, I will not cast a spear but will fire a magic missile for 4 hp damage. I will use movement to make sure I am approx. 20' from the comabat.

Listen check 4 (-1) = 3 fail (lol)
Initiative: 10 (+3) = 13

I am the type to spring into action relishing the chance to show off my combat power. My first goal will be to launch a spear at the smaller creature who attacked Alajos: rolling 11 (+3, +1) = 14 to hit. If I hit then I will do (1d8+2) = 8 hp damage. (I am assuming I am within 30' for point-blank-shot to take affect.)

If upon springing erect, I deem that the darkness is such to make an accurate throw impossible, I will instead use action to cast cantrip Light on the shaft of said spear prior to hurling it into nearest foe.

I will then prepare for the casting of magic missile into same foe next action. "Try to save the hide!" I shout maniacally, fingertips practically sparking in anticipation.

"Though I still feel strong enough to take an orc one-handed... still, I need my rest. I will take watch if I must..."

Otto yawns and unrolls his bedroll. "Be sure to wake me if there be action, never too tired for that. Oh and thanks for the sup Lyssa, never has rabbit tasted so well!"

With that Otto lies back, semi-dry thanks to his voluminous cloak spread overhead, and plays with his pet mice, named Thing 1 and Thing 2. His iron-bladed trio of spears, sharpened to a fine hone are propped next to him, with-in easy reach.

Spoiler:

Equipment list
3 Spears (6gp) (18lb)
3 Daggers (6gp) (3lb)
Backpack (2gp) (2 lb)
Bedroll (1sp) (5lb)
Rations, trail (7 day) (4gp) (4lb)
Rope, silk (50 ft.) (10gp (5lb)

Total cost: 30gp remaining: 45gp

Total weight carried: 37lb (Light Load)

"Now now my good ...er man. Lets keep plodding along, I am sure we will reach our destination soon. Once at this ruined tower, I'm sure the biggest complaint wil be having to lug heaping bags of gold back to town, eh friend?"

(Otto is attempting to bluff the charaters into a good mood, though he is completely lost and has no idea how to get to this tower. He is sure things will sort themselves out. He spends his idle moment polishing and testing the amulet in an effort to see if it has magic. He also casts detect magic on it art his earliest opportunity.)

"Chin up comrades! I'm sure things will set them selves right once we get to our destination!"

((Whilst travelling, Otto will keep his eye out for a suitable animal to train as a hunting pet, e.g. wolf, dog, lynx, ferret, whatever is available. In fact, he will eventually want to gather an animal for his familiar as well. Otto is a big animal lover. As it is, he has a pair of mice (2 silver) that he keeps as pets in his tunic pocket.))

DM, do we use standard familiar rules from the PHB? If so, I am saving money till I get the 100 gp for components.

(OOC: I'm sorry but I will read up on the message board mechanics or make a new login w/ correct name and avatar later but for now.)

Hi. I am Otto. Otto Ringus, see here you must r-r-roll the r-r-r's. Anyhow there's a few things you need to know about me straight off.

First. I dont crave power, it craves me, it is drawn to me the same way you all were. My spear always hits its target, my magic (insert prestidigiatation where I take a draw on my long pipe, exhume a waft of smoke in the form of a skeletel dragon and snap my finger under it where the smoke flashes in blue flame and vanishes...) My magic is powerful as well...

Second, I am honest, as you can tell by now, otherwise you strangers (whom I all claim as boon companions from this moment on!) gather around, you can tell I speak true, and so I must inform you that my mere presence draws power to me like a moth to flame. And you frinds, halfling, good Osric, Nurain, Alajos, and you too, half-elf, you are drawn too, or maybe it is this amulet (draws it forth)

Yes, I am neither smart nor wise, but that is why you shall help me, right comrades? For I know we are bound for greatness together, and honestly, I don't think I could make it alone!

Ok Otto is not smart or wise, but he is strong, agile and good looking and has some pretty good magic. He also has an affinity with Animals. I would like to get a familiar as soon as possible (Hawk) and if I ever have the opportunity I would like to train a hunting animal: dog, lynx, etc. using my Handle Animal Skillz

OK, so far so good. We possibly have a Halfling fighter/rogue and a Dwarven Barbarian. Looking good!

I am extremely interested as I am a huge fan of Necromancer Games. I am a DM in the real world, and am coming back to the game after many years not playing, so a PBP would be excellent. I am cleaning the garage out today so no time to come up with a detailed character to play, but I prefer standard classes, and would like to play one of the following: half-elf druid; gnome illusionist; Human Sorcerer. I would also consider a half-orc barbarian, but I wouldnt want to steal the dwarf's thunder... :)

Please consider me, and I will post a bio this afternoon, thanx!

J~

I ordered a flip mat last week (the plain one square/hex) and I THOUGHT it said ship 6-9 days when I place dthe order. Well I just checked up to see if it shipped yet, and now it is listed as back-ordered.

I am wondering, sinc ethey are all the same pricE, if I could substitute a patterned flip mat, so long as at least one side is plain squares. I would accept any you have in stock, and would appreciate the change as I am in dire need of game mapping at the table.

Tavern would be ok, city market, cathedral, etc. I REALLY appreciate it!

Thanx
JD Barnes
