Oorin, feeling somewhat tired, was not paying much attention to the new guest preferring to simply flip through the many books in the house but stops when the question of what to do next is posed. "I had hoped Harrowstone would provide more insight into the cults activities than it did. There must have been a reason for what they were trying to do other than evil for the sake of being evil. I will stick with the others as I can see no logical sense in separating now. Certainly, our actions have not gone unnoticed and I'm glad that Ms. Kendra will be leaving here."

I'm playing a Paladin of Shelyn in a Jade Regent game. I was also inspired by the codes in Faiths of Purity. It's a tricky code to follow. In particular (for adventurers anyway; paraphrased) is: Act to prevent violence before it blossoms, never strike first unless it is the only way to protect innocents, and always accept surrender if the opponent can be redeemed while never assuming the can't. I was disappointed that Faiths of Balance did not include codes for Abadar and Irori who, by alignment anyway, could have had paladins. I tried asking if, in Golarion, those two deities don't have paladins but I couldn't get an answer from JJ.

Not rolling for hp anymore; with my Con, that adds 6.
Will spend some off-time and money transcribing some spells from the ghost's spellbook to my own. The Cipher Script feat I took last level cuts the time and cost to do so by half so it shouldn't be too bad. Huh, just made the changes to my profile and it saved absolutely nothing. Will try again later.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Wincing at the pain, Oorin thinks back on those who have died so far. "I grow tired of this necromancy!" Oorin casts Burning Hands, trying to engulf the table and the dwarf corpse behind it in the area of effect (as much as possible). Burning Hands; DC 14(Ref half): 4d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 4) + 1 = 12

Realizing he'll be of little help with the maiden, Oorin moves over to the pentagram and examines the tools there; removing them if he thinks it's part of what is holding Franc. Spellcraft:: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)
Oorin searches toe room as well. As the means to open the maiden may not be traditonal ones (given where they all are), he looks for anything that seems out of place for the room. Perception:: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

The words of magic die on Oorin's lip as he sees the empty device. He breathes a sigh of relief but jumps when Franc starts shouting What the...? Oorin starts frantically looking around for some threat and casts Detect Magic.

Oorin will ready Burning Hands should whatever comes out the maiden be hostile (and he's assuming it will be). He'll make sure none of his friends are in the area of effect. Burning Hands: 4d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 3) + 1 = 9 DC:14, Ref save for half, +1 die for Pyromaniac, +1 for Elemental Pupil (Fire)

Lost in his own thoughts momentarily, Oorin snaps back at the mention of necromancy. "Hmm. What? It could be reacting to some ritual. Have we managed to find any symbol of authority that we can give to Vesorianna? Without that, I fear that victories against the five ghosts will be in vain. I fear that time is quickly running out." Oorin will open the secret door but will peer in before entering and, if it's obviously dangerous, he won't enter at all.

"Even with the most attentive watch, I'm reluctant to sleep in this place; there's just too much necromancy permeating these ruins. My experience with The Lopper shows that even our minds aren't safe from attack. I say we press on." Spellcraft:: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Oorin frowns. He had hoped saying Splatter Man's real name or threatening his old spellbook would have some sort of effect but the apparition is clearly too far gone. If a rat is still alive at his pass, Oorin will use a Magic Missle on it. Otherwise, he directs it towards Splatter Man. Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)
The Splatter Man, I have his spellbook. Can it be of use here? Oorin will pull out the spellbook with his free hand and hold it in front of him. "Hean Feranin! In life, this book belonged to you. In death, it is nothing but an anchor for your agony of unlife. Let it go or I will destroy it!" Oorin points his wand at the book. This book is likely too cursed to be destroyed in such a way but if I can get him to pause for even a second...

I'm spoilering my actions just in case anything should interrupt or prevent me from doing or saying the things I've posted. DM Haldhin: As Oorin wanders the area he notices a discepency in the northeast most cell. "Everybody, there's a hidden door in this cell on tyhe eastern wall and I think..." Oorin trails off as he stares at the walls for a moment. Moving up to them he closely inspects the water seeping in. "Interesting; this doesn't appear to be water at all. It looks like," Oorin peers even closer, "blood, maybe? It's forming a pattern! Letters, I think."
Oorin uses Detect Magic on the blood.

I have every intention of staying with the game. I believe that when we first started I had been mulling the possibility of going into the Loremaster PrC. I'm still mulling that but it's still a few levels away (7th or 8th I think). As for magic items, I'm an old grognard hailing from the days when you took what items the DM gave you and made do. I think it takes away some of the mystery when you can plan out your treasure "growth" right from 1st level. It's one of the reasons why I never make my wizards into crafters.
Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)
Oorin hands Karl the magical scythe. "Glad to be rid of it quite frankly. Spellcraft:: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
With Detect Magic, "The large mace and the stone are magical but I don't know how." "I wouldn't worry too much about hearing voices in a place like this. No doubt tricks designed to unsettle are quite prevalent here."

If needed, Oorin will use another charge for a Magic Missle but only if it appears that the first had some effect. Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 If the spell didn't appear to have any effect, Oorin will use Detect Magic to see if there's anything else around that might be of use/importance against the Lopper.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Oorin holds waiting to see if the rest can take it down without him having to resort to magic. If they fail to take it down, he'll use a charge for the wand. Unfortunately, I remember the number of charges but not the caster level the wand is set at so I'm not sure what to roll for damage.

Sorry for the delay. Paizo's website just would not load for me recently; either at home or at work. Oorin chuckles darkly at the nameplate. "Anyone brought down here probably took comfort, rather than intimidation, from that name. Or perhaps some guard's poor attempt at a joke." Oorin is relieved by Roland's declaration on no undead but knows that safety is an illusion here. He'll cast Detect Magic as the move down the corridor.

HP roll: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 I added ranks in Appraise, K: Engineering, Planes & Religion, Linguistics and Spellcraft. From Linguistics I added Ignan as a language. The two spells I added to my spellbook are Pilfering Hand and Scorching Ray. For my feat I took Cypher Script which cuts the cost and time of copying spells into my spellbook by half and they only take up half as much space.

Oorin's doing fairly well on spells. Most of his fire spells and abilities, except for one Produce Flame, haven't been needed or was hindered from using (didn't want to set the sheets on fire when they're wrapped around a companion) so I've been using the Xbow a lot. When that stops being efficient he'll probably switch to using his wand.
Male Gnome Wizard (Fire) 3 (HP 19/24 AC 13, T 13, FF 11/ F +3, R +3, W +3/ Init. +2/ Per. +2)
Oorin was thumbing through the Father's rambling diary when Cassandra's scream cut through the air. He dropped the book and fumbled for his Xbow but she was already gone. Rather shaken, he can't help looking at his feet, he says, "Ah, I'm fine, I think. Somehow the "Father" entered my mind (or pulled mine into his) but I appear to have been successful in our battle of wills. This diary of his is just ravings. Useful for scholarly study perhaps but no benefit to use immediately, I think." Trying to regain his composure he hefts up the scythe, "This is a little unwieldy for me to carry around. I'm fairly certain there's more than one enchantment on it, though I don't know how useful a weapon any of you might find it."

Until this Seattle trip, I wasn't involved with them at all. I backed the Gamers 3 kickstarter at a fairly significant level; high enough to get me (and the others who backed at that level) a small, but still credited, speaking role in the film. It was fun but the best part was just meeting everyone. I can't think of a single person who wasn't nice and I made a lot of friends out there. Now I'm just itching for GenCon so I can see them again (also, I think the first screening of the movie is happening there). I talked to someone who was paying $3000 a month for a one-bedroom apartment. I'm assuming there are financing options that make it possible as I just can't see paying four times the cost of an apartment/house even with a decent paying job. I did like it out there though; seems a very cool place to live.

DM Haldhin: Oorin wonders about his best course of action. His friends seems to be doing well and he himself appears to be "winning" this strange mind battle. He's unsure about leaving this apparition behind, perhaps being a part of Father charlatan, but fears being outside his own body if the "Father" is defeated.
This all flashes through his mind in a few moments and he decides to accept the pull and return to his own body. His attempt to get the book is what triggered this so it is clearly an object of importance.

The filming of Gamers 3: The Hands of Fate. Though I did enjoy Seattle a lot. The cost of living out there is crazy high though. My house in Ohio is valued at about $140K. A similarly sized house in Seattle runs almost $750K. I just can't see how anyone could afford that.

You get to travel to some interesting places. Whenever I think of Bangkok I can only think of the song Abba wrote for the musical Chess. A few weeks ago I was excited just to be able to go to Seattle for the first time (though it wasn't exactly Seattle itself that I was excited about).

DM Haldhin: The fairly unpious Oorin is none too impressed with his surroundings.
"Based on my studies," he says to the strange old man, [b]"were my death to occur, this is not likely to be result. You are not a servant of Pharasma nor of Ng the Hooded despite the numerous religious symbols which cover your personage. In fact, I have trouble believing you are the servant of any god at all. I thank you for your suggestion, however, as it gives me a clear course of what I should probably not do. I will simply wait here for my friends to deal with Father Charlatan and break whatever prison my mind is currently trapped in."
