A discussion I was having with Ben Bruck, combined with flipping through the Game Mastery Guide's NPC Gallery on the PRD and re-reading certain Kingmaker volumes, has led me to build incredibly stupid (yet technically effective) mass combat armies. The problem is, now I can't stop doing it. I encourage you to join along. Maybe your kingdom needs fields of barmaids or an elite cadre of prisoners, too. Here's a couple examples: VILLAGE IDIOT HORDE CR 1
ELITE PRISONER CADRE CR 2
TOURING MINSTREL TROUPE CR 1
WAVE OF HOOKERS CR 9
EDIT: After talking to Booms, I have added the following: OH $#!@ MONKEYS CR 4
So, been working on the upcoming third set of LoF minis (no, seriously!), and I took a quick break to whip up a copy of the Scroll of Kakishon. It's sized to be 11" x 17" if printed out at 300 DPI, so it should make a pretty sweet handout for some PCs to discover, I hope. Anyhoo. Enough jabber. Here's the link to its home on dA; just hit the "Download" button, and be prepared to wait a bit. It's pretty big. Hope y'all enjoy it! Hey, noticed no one's started up a "tell me about your PC/Group!" thread, probably because the Player's Guide hasn't even come out yet. But I can't be the only one who plans character concepts months ahead of time. My character, most likely as a GMPC: Doctor Iulian Sandulescu, N male human alchemist. I'm going with him as a physician attempting to push the limits of mortal medical knowledge. Using a 20-point buy (my gaming standard) and the middle age penalties, I got his Int up to 21; his physical stats blow, and he's... well, less than charming, but he's a brilliant misanthrope, so that's all cool by me. I'm playing him with a bit of Dr. House, Dr. McCoy, and a smidge of amoral mad scientist. His job will be to keep those damn fool PCs alive, and maybe even throw a few potions of dubious boon down their throats. Also picked up Sense Motive as a cross-class to show study of mental as well as physical illness. Eventually hope to get him a fancy travelin' carriage and a halfling driver to ferry him from one messed-up Ustalavic town to another. Also hoping to perform autopsies on far too many fallen foes, and I think I'll steal those hypodermic potions from Whassisname in "Age of Worms." Something about shooting up the fighter with an enlarge person hypo just seems fun. :D I did some Plague Doctor art, and made an alternate color version for my PC; later, I'll give him his own custom mini, but it works great for now. So: who are you playing? Or planning on playing? Or thinking about toying with the idea of maybe adding it to the short list for playing? W007!!!111!11 It's up! A few reasons to buy this cheap-arse beast: *As mentioned before, fully 3-D dragon. That's just sweet. It makes a good decoration on a gaming bookshelf, too.
Since it'll be a bit, I'd guess, until the PaizoCon 2011 announcement flies forth from the cavernous den of the white dragon Tsorfhsoj, I figured this'd be a good place to let the plans go wild. First off, thanks to everyone who took part in "Dungeon Keepers." Keep an eye out on the schedule for "Dungeon Keepers II: Orv-Gone Trail." I'm looking to hook up with all the prior players to stat out new versions of the kobolds and discuss vague plans for the sequel (gotta keep some surprises). Also, time and planning permitting, I'd love to run a game pitting giant mecha against classic Pathfinder monsters, and possibly a Pathfinder/Spelljammer hybrid of space exploration and cosmic horror. I'd also love to know if anyone would like me to attempt to use my demi-fame to try to pull some strings on celebrity guests, art table placements, or whatnot. Frost and I were compatriots in the siege of Troy, so he owes me a few. Also: if I set it up early enough, would folks like some paper minis to be available for sale? This'd take a bit of work, and I'm ever-hopeful for some more freebies available through Wayfinder, but I'm curous if folks would like to buy pre-built minis, signed by me, enough to beg Paizo to let me sell 'em. It's available here. Future updates and free downloads to be offered and mentioned in the usual thread. G'head and click on your Account, and click that little "message board settings" button. Then click on the "change avatar" button. I promise, it won't hurt. :D Notice anything... new? Anything... mini? That's right. Crystal Frasier, Callous Jack, and myself are now avatar art creators. :D More to come, I promise. Alright, somehow I keep making more of these, so I though I'd make a thread for me to offer them for download to anyone interested. Previous stuff includes: Kingmaker Charter
I also just finished whipping up a set of the first four posters found at Oleg's Trading Post; hope you guys enjoy them! Further posters and handouts will be made available in this thread. Oh, hey: if anyone's interested in writing for this, I'd love the help. I'm an art-man, not a word-man. :P I've whipped up another free downloadable handout for Kingmaker: the Stag Lord Wanted Poster. Artwork and text by me. Font is The King & Queen Font, which I got off of dafont.com. Produced in compliance (I hope) with Paizo's Community Use Policy. Hope you guys like it! :D CONTENT WARNING - Potential Spoilers - PCs STAY OUT. Or your GM might just leave the Tarrasque in your backpack when you're not looking. Now that that's outta the way... I've been reading "Stolen Lands," and I got to the part about some certain fey critters and some certain things they might do to certain adventurers. I thought I'd start a thread for folks to share their sample pranks for everyone to enjoy, and for everyone to cherry-pick at will to make each prank the best it can be. Plus, I keep reading this thing when I'm sleep-deprived, and I can only come up with bare-bones "HA HA! Grease on the floor! You fell on your bum!" type stuff. Help a brother out, will ya? I'll keep making downloadable "Kingmaker" freebies if you keep me up to my eyeballs in fey pranks. :D. Let the Prank-Off BEGIN! I got bored and made a copy of the Kingmaker charter (the flavor text at the beginning of the adventure) as a PDF for download. This was mentioned in another thread, but thought I'd put it out here for people who haven't dipped into that thread to enjoy. Download it here. It's not super-amazing, but it was a quick and dirty creation; I hope most groups will find it sufficient. Paizo gang, if you feel this pushes the limits of the Community Use policy (I dunno; I can barely read a menu, much less a legal document, even when translated into Normal People-ese), notify me, and I'll pull it immediately. You know me. I try to obey. :P I've got plans for other sets, but for now, check out my latest set: Hellknights. More sets to come soon, I hope! :D I've talked with Crystal "Immora" Frasier (Paizo's own Production Specialist, and my first co-conspirator in the official Pathfinder Paper Minis gig), and she's all over this like beans on rice. Dunno what she has planned, especially since I don't have the level of insider access that she does, but I wanted to let folks know that there will be pretty new minis sets designed by her coming soon. And since she has that elusive quality known as a "work ethic," expect her stuff to be on-time. Any delays can be laid squarely at my feet. :P Feel free to discuss your joy. Howdy, gang! Y'all like the Fallout universe, right? And P&P role-playing games? And minis? And free stuff? Boy, are you in luck. :D I've had in my head a concept for a Fallout game set in New Orleans for years now, and recently there's been some interest in my circle of friends. So I've been going gung-ho with making Fallout-related paper minis artwork in preparation for an upcoming game. ... Oh, who am I? I'm N'wah, also known as Ashton Sperry when I'm not annoying people online. I make these for Paizo Publishing. I'm also an inveterate doodler. You can find a solid sampling of my artwork here. ... Yes, I'm also working on the backlog of sets for Pathfinder. It's been a crazy six months. Gimme a bit. Sorry for the delay. :( Anyhoo, you've slogged through enough text. Here's some links to the art in question. In case you're new to DeviantART, click on the image for the full-sized version: Swamper (think generic Fallout raider meets swampfolk from Fallout 3's "Point Lookout" expansion)
I've also been working on a game system cobbled together from Star Wars: Saga Edition, D20 Modern, and the Pathfinder RPG system rules; an unholy alliance, top be sure, but believe me, it's coming together pretty alright. I'll provide links when the (FREE!) system PDFs are finished. ... I know, I know. There's already Fallout system rules. I've played in a couple of those games. But I'm crazy enough to want to try something new. Stop interrupting. :P Regardless of system usage, however, I hope the minis satisfy. :D Let me know what you guys think! Hey gang, In an earlier thread, I had made mention of producing a few 3-D Pathfinder Paper Minis sets to be previewed at PaizoCon III and released after the Con is over. The current plans include a Colossal silver dragon (suggested by Sharoth), and Treerazer (set to compete with Lillith's Treerazer in a battle I call "Duelin' 'Razers"). I figure I should have enough time to do a third set for viewing/manhandling at PaizoCon III, but I've got one problem: what should I make? So, any suggestions? The limiting factors on your choices are: 1): It must be Huge or larger. No requests for detailed 3-D imps please. The ordinary 2-D Tiny figures are hard enough to cut out, thanks. :P 2: It must be a Pathfinder or OGL critter. I've got my license with Paizo, and that's who I produce sets for. Anything from the Bestiary, the Pathfinder APs, or any of the other books where monsters doth dwell is good by me. So, let me know what you want to see, and I'll see what I can do! I'll be posting links to scans and photos when they become available, and bringing the final versions to the Con for up-close-and-personal viewing. Shortly afterward, I'll put the sets up for sale online, and y'all will get a chance to fill your house with 'em. :D Sound good? Good. Well, let's get the suggestion ball rolling! Dear reader, The following is the collected volumes of information regarding certain events in Westcrown, Cheliax, from late 4709 AR through 4710 AR and beyond. In an effort to better understand these strange happenings, we have collected the following notes, journals, dottari reports, and assorted apocrypha, along with illustrations and maps when available. Information is presented in the order it was received. Dates and times will be provided whenever possible; this may not be the case in all entries. Be advised that all relevant resources have been culled for this volume, no matter the source. These parcels of information, even when from usually reputable sources, may be highly dubious; it is up to the discerning eye of the astute reader to sift fact from fiction. Howdy, everyone! I'm currently working on the Pathfinder Paper Mini sets for "The Jackal's Price" and "End of Eternity", and I've veen wracking my brain trying to figure out exactly which minis to make for each set. Then I had a thought: why not ask you, the consumers of the sets, for input on which minis you'd like to see. So, um, I am. :P Alright, before I get too far into it, let me preface this by saying that lists of major villains, monsters, and NPCs in the adventures could be construed as a spoiler, so this is a SPOILER WARNING. Also, if you're not familiar with the Pathfinder Paper Minis line, feel free to check them out here. Call me biased, but I think they're pretty cool. :P So here's the deal: there's way more NPCs and monsters in each of these adventures than I could possibly make in a set, so I need some help picking out which ones people want minis for. So, other than obviously Father Jackal himself, which NPCs and monsters would you like to see? The goal number is about twelve or so, but it can be adjusted slightly depending on demand (I think "House of the Beast" had thirteen, for example). A quick note: I've been attempting to make "backup" sets for recurring-theme villains (the "Gnolls" set being a good example) to cover the basic mooks and such, so I could, for example, make a "Katapeshi Encounters" set with some of the folks from Part 2: Rayhan's Villa in "The Jackal's Price" (Marzuk, Badra, Kazim, Tamir, nine thugs, Radi Hamdi, and maybe Rayhan himself), which would free up more minis room for the One Source building and the desert encounters stuff. It also could be used for DMs looking to create some Katapeshi encounters (combined with the minis from Immora's "Katapeshi Caravan" and you've pretty much got a Katapesh street scene right there). Thoughts? Feelings? Tomatoes? Lemme know. Thanks in advance! Howdy, everyone! Recently, my girlfriend and I had an amicable parting of the ways, so to speak. However, this means that she's not coming along to PaizoCon with me, leaving me with an extra PaizoCon ticket, as well as a ticket to the PaizoCon dinner event. Is anyone interested in scooping up a free ticket to PaizoCon? Here's your chance to do so! Posted up my game notes on the avenger class from 4E's PHB 2. You can check it out on my DeviantART blog, or on my LiveJournal. I hope you guys enjoy it, and lemme know what you think! Next up: the deva. ...Except they don't exist yet. But they could! Last night, I mentioned to my roommate (Benchak on these here boards) an idea I had kicking around in my head, knocking over all the random crap in my brain: making 4E adventures for one DM and one player, kinda like those ones they did way back in 2nd Edition. They'd be geared towards specific PC roles (defender, striker, etc.) and/or specific power sources, with the challenges being uniquely suited to folks whose classes fit that profile. It originally came about as a way for me to try out some of the classes without necessarily committing one to a specific campaign, but I thought if folks were interested, we could possibly make them available for the general public. Now, so far I've only sketched out some concepts for one or two adventures, so they'd still need to be written and playtested and such, but I thought I'd use this thread to gauge interest in seeing these things come to fruition. Current plan is to make them essentially a fan project, somewhat akin to the 4E Pathfinder conversions; no money would change hands for them, which should hopefully make us less of a tempting target for hoards of lawyers hungry for fan-blood. I'd ostensibly set them in the Pathfinder campaign universe, but I could easily make them setting-neutral (Sarenrae becomes "The Sun Goddess", Pharasma the "Death Goddess", and as far as I know, no one owns Asmodeus), and have them be simple one-level (or half-level) adventures. It'd be a good way for folks to try out a class, or maybe serve as a side-trek, and new players could learn the ropes without worrying that all the other players will roll their eyes while they ask which die is the d10 and how to roll for initiative and such. Ben and I would probably write the first few, but obviously we'd be happy to accept adventure ideas, and clearly we don't own the concept, so feel free to make your own. My first idea was an adventure for strikers, especially since both Ben and I have our greedy eyes locked on the avenger class (and it doesn't hurt that strikers in general seem really popular). So, anyone interested in seeing what comes of it? Just got off the Paizo Chat a bit ago, and one of the things that had come up was the possibility of a Numeria-centric Adventure Path. A lot of folks were interested in the idea, but James was worried that the powers-that-be might not be so inclined to green-light such a sci-fi/fantasy crossbreed, especially for a whole AP. I, however, beg to differ. :P So I thought I'd start this thread as a sort of petition to garner some support for a future Numeria AP. Fans of metal men, laser guns, tech-wielding savages, and crashed spaceships unite! Anyone else interested? Howdy, all! As some of you may already know, my roommate Ben (Benchak the Nightstalker on the boards) and I have been given the go-ahead to make printable PDF miniatures packs tied in with the Pathfinder line of adventures. This means soon you'll be able to download packs of miniatures you can print out, assemble, and use in your Pathfinder game. The current plan is to begin releasing products in February, tied in with the Legacy of Fire Adventure Path, as well as a set of the Pathfinder iconics. The setup is scheduled to be: * 1 set of minis tied to a specific monster/creature type that will see regular use in the Adventure Path (gnolls in LoF, for instance, or street toughs and rogue-types for Council of Thieves); these will crop up when appropriate, and we'll probably do other monster packs if an AP doesn't call for a lot of one specific kind of monster * A set of the key NPCs for that particular AP adventure * A set of monsters from that adventure's Bestiary article * A possible end-of-AP compilation set (if there's interest) Depending on the number of enemies in an AP that we'll need to make minis for, these sets should each contain about 6-12 figues, possibly more. If an AP for some reason has less named NPCs, we'll make up the shortfall with whatever monsters/NPC villains seem appropriate from the adventure (special goon or bodyguard minis, for example). Now, the current question I pose to y'all is: how much would you pay for a set of these? This is a new frontier we're exploring, and pricing on something like that can be a sticky wicket. From what I've seen, a lot of sites seem to charge about $6 for a pack of twelve, or about 50 cents each. Does that seem reasonable? Or would you prefer a lower price point? Let us know what you think! Linky linky. Blather text: In this episode, it’s Dave Noonan flying solo this time along with R&D’s Chris Youngs, editor-in-chief of Dragon and Dungeon Magazines. We’ve been discussing the magazines quite a bit in recent days (take a look at Randy Buehler’s Digital Insider #6), so we wanted to take this opportunity to have a conversation with Chris regarding upcoming features, submissions, and what’s happening with both the barbarian and the Adventure Path. Hey, Paizo gang! Recently, my roommate started a thread in regards to a paper rune giant mini I made (thread can be found here). there's been some positive feedback and requests for me to make a few downloadable mini packs, probably for Rise of the Runelords. I wanted to ask permission to use what I assume is Paizo IP to make these minis--the unique design of your goblins, named NPCs, etc. These would be free downloads; I'm not yet thinking about making miniatures for sale (which would be a separate issue entirely). I just wanted to make sure that this is an acceptable use of the IP, and get permission if able. I'm not sure if this is an official way to do this; if not, let me know what steps I need to take in order to submit a formal request. Thanks in advance, and I hope you like the homage to your awesome adventures! -N'wah (Ashton Sperry) Howdy all! I'm working on converting Pathfinder adventures to 4E (specifically, the CoCT AP), and was looking for some feedback/ideas from you, my fellow gamers. I know, wierd, huh? :P Erm, if you're actually playing in CoCT, this may not be a good thread to read. Since we're talking about monsters that make appearances in the game, this could be a bit of a spoiler thread. You've been warned. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Anyhoo. Onto the topic at hand. First off, any thoughts on derro? They've got a sneak attack in 3.X, and that's easily handled--the "standard" derro will probably be a skirmisher with a 1d6 sneak attack, like some of the gnomes, goblins, and kobolds. But I want to give 'em some fun special abilities involving their madness power and/or their minor illusion abilities. I've been kicking around some sort of "psychic feedback" power that kicks on when they're hit by a Will save power, possibly doing some psychic damage and/or a minor effect (dazed, probably) to the offending attacker, and making them immune to things that cause confusion or erratic actions (they're already confused and prone to erratic actions, being insane and all). I'd still like to see them have a cool power to use against the foes they're sneak attacking. Maybe something like the rogue's Sly Flourish power--a distracting attack that hits hard. Thoughts? I know this probably won't get answered 'til after Gen Con, but it never hurts to put it out there. Are there plans for a rival adventuring party in Savage Tide? Or is that more the role filled by Vanthus and his pirate crew (as recurring villains and foils)? Just curious. Ooh, side question--will Eva Wildermann be doing character portraits for the Savage Tide game, and if not, will you be setting up one specific artist to do all (or the majority) of the portraits? Eva's art was really kick-ass, and having consistent character art helped give the AoW a more unified look and feel. I'd hope to see that with Savage Tide as well. Thanks in advance for any info you can give! Hey. Its my group's experiences with the final adventure. I hope you didn't expect me to use code. It's been over two months since my group finished the Shackled City Adventure Path, and ever since, my fiancee has been clamoring for thier final climactic battle to be recorded on the message board. After many battles within Skullrot, the group finally ascends to the last level of the asylum to find dark Myrakul and his golem watching over the cage of Adimarchus. Dark Myrakul asks what these interlopers into the asylum of Skullrot are doing. The cleric of the group (as played by my fiancee), by now a high level sword scion of a blade I made containing the soul of an astral deva, demands to know the complete story of what's been going on. Certain that he can defeat these mortal fools, Dark Myrakul tells them the tale of adimarcus and Athux, complete with the final betrayal. The cleric, whose fascination with Adimarchus (and who had sacrificed herself to the phasms, thus acquiring the Sign of the Smoking Eye) was bordering on obsession, decided that good must still lurk in the Demon Prince's heart. a long battle ensues, and the PCs emerge victorious, albiet minus a few characters that the cleric quickly revives. After the group is rested and healed, the cleric comes up with a plan. Shortly before running this adventure, I had bought both Complete Divine and the Book of Exalted Deeds, providing the Lawful Good cleric with a battery of new spell options. While the names of many of these spell elude me (and i'm too lazy to walk to the bookshelf to look them up), here's the gist of the plan. The cleric casts Vengeance Halo (which does tons of damage to the attacker if they kill the character in question) on whichever of the PCs agrees to it, plus Nidrama. The rest of the group buffs themselves, then she breaks the cage. adimarcus, thus freed, sees the cleric has the sign of the smoking eye, and, thus enraged, attacks only her. This onslaught drops her to about 1/3 her total hit points. Then she casts a spell from BoED that does damage to anyone who attacks anyone else in the area, tells the rest of the group to stand down. What occurs next is two hours of the most intense role-playing I've ever experienced. Everyone was on the edge of their seat. finally, they talk Adimarchus into accepting a spell that cures the effects of his insanity. While still horrifically chaotic evil, he agrees to spare the group and takes them as his "hostages" on Occipitus as he plans his revenge on Grazz't. We haven't yet begun the epic adventures to come involving trying to redeem Adimarchus, raise Occipitus from the Abyss, and fend off attacks from rival Demon Princes yet, but it should be an exciting yourney. I just got <i>Dungeon 125</i> today (technically yesterday but I didn't check the mail- I think it's a new record for speedy delivery) and of course have been eagerly devouring the latest AoW adventure. I've got a question regarding one of the rooms, however. PCs not wishing to spoil the adventure for themselves should cease reading right... ... ... ... NOW. Ok. In the Chamber of the Faithful (Room #3, pages 24-25 if you need it), the creatures entry states that the room "serves as quarters for a large group of fanatical Hextorites". But neither the room description nor the stat block give us an exact number to work with. I assume it was lost somewhere in editing. What is the exact number of cultists in the room? By the way, cool use of a bunch of commoners. The PCs might think they're in trouble at first when faced with so many armed and dangerous-looking foes in such a small room. :) Thanks in advance! PS- I purposely left the header vague so's that others (or myself later, after finishing the adventure) can comre back and ask more questions if they should crop up. That way we won't flood the board with one-time threads on a single problem. Just about to go to sleep, when suddenly I was hit with a question. Will the second Adventure Path deal with the ancient mysteries of this hinted-at-but-never-explained old baboon empire? Does it have to do with Demogorgon? Is it the focus of AP3? Will one of the monkeys wear a tuxedo and dance for our amusement before killing us with vile magicks? Answer whenever- I'll probably forget I even wrote it when I get up six hours from now. Thanks in advance. I just got my copy of Dungeon 124 a few days ago, and when I went online to check out the online supplement, I found it wasn't there. I also noticed, to my dismay, that issue 123's supplement came out a mere ten days ago. Do they always take that much longer after subscribers get the issue? Is this to prevent non-subscribers from, I dunno, seeing the pretty pictures before buying the issue? Any help you can provide would be great. |
