I can't recall exactly when I went from simply using Paizo.com to renew my subscriptions to full-on board lurker, but it must've been some time around Shackled City/Age of Worms (so... 2005/2006, I guess). Then some stuff happened and I woke up with a minis line that I still have a hard time believing exists. I got into Dungeon and Dragon shortly before Paizo became the new overlords, and was really excited to have all this fun new stuff to think about running (gaming time was limited back then, so it all just collected cobwebs in my spider-filled brain). Eventually, I started recognizing the names of folks in my magazines and realized these folks really knew their stuff. When I heard the mags were going down, I happily jumped on-board for Pathfinder (I'd've plopped down the cash just for the Wayne Reynolds cover art, honestly). Haven't been disappointed yet. But yeah, it's not just the actual Paizo folks, but the community at large that has made this feel different. Full disclosure: I generally hate my own kind (y'know, nerds, geeks, etc.). I've had awful experiences with stereotypical gaming hobbyists that still make me shudder to recall. But all y'all cats and kittens is be chill, yo. I've got a lot of folks that dwell on these boards that I'd totally hang out with in person (and, at PaizoCon, I actually got to with some of 'em). So, i guess, to wrap it up: Thanks to Paizo, for all the awesome adventures, campaigns, and nuggets of gaming gold that have provided me and many of my friends with countless hours of good times. Thanks to all of you, the community, for showing just how cool an online community of gamers and assorted ne'er-do-wells can be. And thanks, as always, to everyone who gave me this whole "art career" thing. I mean, it's just getting started now, but for a dude who just mangles paper and pixels without any real training to "go pro" is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I'm glad every day that I found this brilliant company and all of you guys. You make my day, every day. For cereal. Hugo, did you say art-spamming? I can do art-spamming. :D New tablet art up. You can thank Immora for generously giving me the tablet she won at Iron Illustrator (personally, I was just happy to come in second against someone with four years of art schoolin', but the tablet makes me look like a much better artist, so that's good, too :P ). For those not E-net shorthand-savvy, "NSFW" means "Not Safe For Work". Forewarned is forearmed, you crazy bunch of xills. Those of you without dA accounts will just get a blocked image, so the truly desperate/insane can e-mail me and I'll gladly send you a copy. E-mail's in my profile. Tablet Doodles (kinda NSFW- contains one swear word) Dryad (NSFW; contains female primary and secondary sexual characteristics) Nereid Wallpaper- 1440 x 900 resolution. Other sizes available for the truly desperate. The water effects on this are my current pride and joy. (NSFW; blue-skinned, green-haired girl bits) Tyralandi Wallpaper- 1440 x 900 resolution. Not Tyralandi Scrimm, James Jacobs' PC/old Paizo iconic, but Tyralandi from Scuttlecove (JJ likes to reuse names- it's not my fault). (NSFW; very naked, definitely skews towards body modification) These are just my personal favs. More is available in the gallery, and some of it you can see without an account! Whee! :P Agreed on the bra sizing issue. My current lady-friend is a (certified!) bra fitter at Macy's, and I'm pretty sure just the stories from this weekend could fill a small book. And I've been present when a few of my ex-girlfriends picked out an incorrectly-sized bra (at least one as a joke, and a few in trial-and-error). As for the topic at hand, the available data is pretty slim. I don't even know what this recent survey/study thing looks like, or who did it, or if they also make Julienne fries. Without knowing what the study was testing or actually found (not what the papers printed; it's amazing what an AP newsfeed can do to a scientific study), I'm hesitant to even make an argument either way, to say nothing of pointing a finger at food, chemicals, aliens, or the Swedes. I will point a finger at chiropractors, though. They're responsible for everything. Zux, thanks for throwing those awesome shindigs. Really, that's what I wanted out of PaizoCon: to get to meet and hang out with all you cool folks, and you delivered. And now that Boomer and I know the side-door shoe trick, our smoke breaks will only last twenty minutes instead of an hour. :P And I'll be bringing some delicious libations next year, pocketbook willing. I still have four damn bottles of '07 Abyss that need drinking, and by then I can bring the '09 for a mini-vertical. I'll see if I can scoop up an '08 as well. If you folks got any requests, lemme know. I can scrounge up a LOT of interesting stuff, from simple, elegant pilsners to beat-you-about-the-face-and-neck Imperial stouts and barleywines. I do sell this stuff for a living after all. :D How was the trip to the Co-op, BTW? Sorry I didn't stop by, but I was exhausted. yoda8myhead wrote:

When I led the slave mutiny, the captain gave me a "most valuable rower" award before I slew him with a thirty-foot-long oar. I'm gonna miss that guy. Dude, I've already been to PaizoCon III: Frost Blood, thanks to Grover Cleveland's Presidential Time Machine. Boomer and I co-GMed the sequel to "Jackanapes" and ended up blowing up a third of Bellevue. Wes unveiled his true identity as none other than Vin Diesel, proving Cappa's hypothesis to be true. Zuxius brought even MORE beer, and rented two hotel rooms to house the after-parties, and the resultant stampede blew up ANOTHER third of Bellevue. I unveiled my set of Alkenstari adventures and accompanying minis sets, which caused James Jacobs to explode. Then Bill Gates dynamited the Microsoft building as part of an insurance scam, but placed the charges all over the place due to a hilarious series of "Threes' Company"-esque misunderstandings, blowing up the final third of Bellevue. While the last construction crane in Bellevue burned, Sutter played a rockin' seventy-six minute guitar solo that sunk the whole landmass, and we all went down like Atlantis, where we live out our lives as demented, hard-partying, gaming fish-monsters. Total cost of Con: $17.3 billion. It's all true. I swear. Joshua J. Frost wrote:

Man, I thought you could handle it. I mean, you missed the Even-Tongued Conquest? Really? :P Can't a man who hates trivia games (even when he's good at 'em) get a break? I suppose you guys'd never have gotten Nex's demiplane without me, though. I'll give you that. :D A'ight. Here's how we do it next year: I'll sit out and chain-smoke, and you'll keep your phone open and on and whisper questions to me, and I'll answer them. Questions with answers like Daante. And Handall. Oh, and Sean: I'll be hopping aboard your team's barge next year, and I'll be sure to get good and close to you, so's you gotta put up with me smelling like a burned out whiskey distillery. All. Day. Long. Enjoy! :D This was indeed one of the best weekends I've had ever. I also want to thank all the folks, both Paizo employees and fans alike, who made this thing happen. I'd also like, well, everyone, for being so damn cool. And for so many folks knowing and liking my work on the paper minis. That was awesome beyond belief. I'd pull folks out for special praise, but I don't want to leave any one out due to a mind like a steel sieve. Let's just say that those of you deserving of extra praise probably already know who you are, and probably got it in-person at the Con. Here's to seeing y'all next year at PaizoCon III: Revenge of the Revenge of the Con's Revenge! To Boomer, Hugo, SunshineGrrl, Ben, and everyone else, I just want to say thanks for that game. It was the best game session I did at the Con, by far. And I'm looking forward to doing illustrations for it, too. Boomer: you, Hugo, and I should find a time when the DMTools chat is free and hash out the details of the art thing. Also, due to some of the gaming chat we had on Saturday night (I think- might've been Sunday), I'm so totally doing an adventure where everyone plays as one of Pestico's "daughters" (the soulbound dolls) in a wacky adventure that I hope to lay out like a story book. I'd love to shoot some ideas at you for that, if you're interested. Hugo Solis wrote: and last, if there are Female PCs, you should get the proper outfit because is gong to get dirtyyyy....oe yeah, down right dirty! A'ight. High-charisma female PC for me then. :P Is anyone playing a bard, by chance? I haven't done a bard in, like, forever. I haven't played on in, like, forever, either. :P Callous Jack wrote:
I'm in support of this. We'll have to get someone to do the Bestiary for them, though I guess we do have goblin dogs and goblin snakes covered. And I've got plans for ogres, stone giants, and eventually a 3-D rune giant set. Oh, and that one guy who's kinda important to the campaign but whose name I shall not use due to potential spoilerage. Gray Eminence wrote: Any new info on release dates of new sets (especially House of the Beast)? House of the Beast is essentially done; I've gotta send the images for the set for final approval, print out and assemble a set of them for the cover, and upload it. Should be up tonight or tomorrow. Callous Jack's set is awaiting final edits (resizing, adding bases, and PDF arrangement), followed by the final steps. Still coloring Immora's set, followed by the aforementioned steps. I expect the last two sets on the list will be up early next week, depending on how exhausted I am from PaizoCon. I'll redouble my efforts to get caught up; I've been really busy lately with day job and normal life stuff, but that's harldy an excuse, so hopefully we'll be caught up on LoF soon after Council of Thieves hits the market. Apologies for the delays, everyone. It's been... hectic. Waspinator wrote: So, when is the next set of these minis due? I'm working on getting the next sets done. PF #20 is essentially done, save the cover, a Bloodsworn Vale set from Callous Jack is colored and needs to be assembled into a set, and I'm still working on coloring Immora's latest Bestiary set. I'm hoping to have at least one of those ready before PaizoCon, and the others soon afterward. I loved me some Mac & Jack's when I was able to drink it, and if I had the money, I'd buy them a bottling line. Their African Amber is muy bueno, but sadly about all that makes it out to Boise. Haven't tried Black Raven, but I think I've heard of it. You've also got Elysian, a local McMenamin's, Hale's, Pike... I mean, it's not Portland, where you can't throw an organically grown fair-trade stone without hitting a brewery, but Seattle's not exactly a beer-desert. Oh, and Pyramid, but I'm a bit mad at them at the moment, so, uh, yeah. No comment. Thanks, Joela! Games will be played. Libations will be consumed. Madness will occur. And knowing Ben, he'll catch most of it in glorious digital photography. So you'll get to feel like you were there, living in a small box in front of Ben's head that opened a window every now and then to let you catch a split-second part of the action forever. Oh, this is gonna be sweet. I'll discuss possible options with Ben when he's off work. I've been listening to Tom Waits for two days straight (as I am wont to do) and Ben's got all those Clutch CDs. I bet we can find four to eight songs amongst them that people have gotta hear. Honestly, both make regular appearances in my D&D games. Clutch makes great fightin' music, and Tom Waits plays very well into pretty much any urban or semi-urban campaign I ever run. The man pretty much made up my soundtrack for Diamond Lake and Sasserine, and is getting a good showing in Old Korvosa. There will be music, sir. Music indeed. :D Boerngrim wrote: Those pics are very cool! I especially like the modron! As for the fanzine, I was excited already, but I'm especially excited to see A: the articles I did illustrations for, and B: the art other people did. ARGH! Wanna read it so bad! IT BURNS! Shoot off an e-mail to me; my address is in my Paizo info. We'll work out the details from there. Dryder wrote:
Well, there won't be a big Bestiary set, if that's what you're looking for, but once I know what's in it, and what they're looking like now, I'll be better able to design minis for them. So expect more delicious monsters to come out as things go on! DM Jeff wrote:
They're a-comin', sir. I'm covering the basics for now, but I'll be mixing it up every now and then, and Immora's work on the Bestiary articles from the APs will be chock-full of the weird monsters that can be hard to find minis for. Yeah, the plan so far is sets based off the PC races, including human ethnicities. As mentioned before, these sets will be specifically geared towards "standard" equipment for that race or ethnicity (lots of Qadirans with scimitars and falchions, elves with bows and longswords, etc.), and will be geared towards being "class neutral" so they can fill whatever role people might need them for. I'm just getting a feel for what folks are looking for, and so far it looks like that's the popular demand. And don't worry about secondary sets eating up too much time from the main sets (the APs and the Bestiary stuff). They're the "when I have time or hand them to another artist" sets. Current sets on the list, aside from the AP and Bestiary ones, are as follows (in no particular order of release): * Troglodytes a la Hugo
Lemme know if you want to see anything else relatively soon. Also, some RotR-related monsters may be getting sets in a bit (ogres and rune giants are on my wishlist; I'm also interested in trying my hand at stone giants). James Jacobs wrote: The APs that debut in February will tend to be the more experimental, since the ones that debut in August are the Gen Con releases. Of coruse... that release philosophy is hardly written in stone... Y'know, I noticed that pattern, actually. I kinda got a kick out of the fact that every odd-numbered AP I seem to pass to Ben to run. But then again, I'm an absolute lunatic. :P And I noticed the hint there, JJ. Can't wait to see the stats for the Stonewritten Coruse! :P Disclaimer: N'wah is an expert on exactly zero things and has not slept in a while. Take all comments typed by him in this thread with 37 metric tons of salt. Overexposure to N'wah may cause dizziness, nausea, night terrors, spontaneous combustion, and random psychoses as per the rules in Unearthed Arcana. All symptoms were described as "like, totally bad, man." Consult your doctor before use. I was thinking on going backwards, but depending on available artists, we might be able to do multiple sets at once (Immora's got the CoCT sets pretty well covered, and I might arrange them into sets given some spare time if there was interest). Still working on how/when to do the older APs. It's on my table of "stuff to figure out," but that's a big table. :P Yeah, I've got very little set schedule for the paper minis sets. They're pretty much "done when they're done", which I try to make sooner rather than later. Next sets will be "House of the Beast" and its related Bestiary set, scheduled for a week or two. Honestly, the "HotB" set could be out in a matter of days if I had some time off work, but sadly that's not the case :( . The game plan eventually is for two AP sets and two Bestiary sets a month until we're caught up on the APs, then one each a month for those, and supplementary sets of related monsters and any other critter or PC race that catches my eye whenever those sets appear. I do hope to get things more regular as time goes on, but there's a lot of factors that prevent that at the moment. And do check the Paper Minis thread; I try to post links whenever a new set arrives, and be a jerk by saying things like "the next set will be up soonish!" :P Lilith has expressed interest in doing some of the GameMastery/non-AP Pathfinder modules, but she's up to her eyeballs in work for the PaizoCon fanzine right now. She's hoping to get into those soon after that's done, though. I'll keep y'all posted when I've got more info! Also, before I forget: Hugo has also expressed interest in doing some monster sets, kobolds being among them. So at bare minimum, someone's drawing kobolds sometime soon. :D Salient wrote:
That's about right, actually. I won't go into the specifics, since they are really boring, but if they go much cheaper there's not much money going to anyone but the credit card companies that run the transactions. I'm trying to make them as cheap as possible so lots of folks can buy them (believe me, I know how tight money can be) and still hopefully make enough to do this full-time. As Salient mentions, though, the $3.99 price gets you essentially unlimited minis, so if you need a 103 goblins for an adventure for some crazy reason (like you're running Dungeon 108's adventure, "Iron Satyr", for example), you're made in the shade. Salient wrote: Hell these paper mini`s are so cheap when a player lets off a fireball I might just burn them on a pottery plate as an effect! By all means, do so! Actually, for one-shots, gluing just regular printer paper works well, I've heard (that should save on supplies), and since they're nothing but paper and adhesives, they should got up like Roman candles. :D Actually, if this happens, send photos. We did a battle in an old campaign years ago that involved a flaming sphere that we later re-enacted with a burning ball of paper. That was rather hilarious. Salient wrote:
I can work it either by class or by race. I'm leaning towards race for now, but if people prefer class (or generic class archetypes, since not every human fighter is gonna be wearing full plate and wielding a longsword and shield) I can do that. The minis are designed for you guys, after all. We just draw 'em. :P Basically, for the possible PC minis, I'm hoping on making them somewhat class-generic. For instance, if I did a set of Varisians (a requested set that's top on the list of PC elasticities), I'd do a lot of lightly-armored folks with daggers, rapiers, short swords, and such, plus spellcaster-y looking folks that could work for wizards, sorcerers, Harrow-readers, or anybody who's not obviously heavily armed (but might keep a dagger in their belt while making obscure gestures with their hands). The hope is to make them as useful as possible, for both GMs and PCs, so a GM can have ready-made villains, and PCs can pick one that fits their race and class most of the time. I might sometime do a set of "oddballs" (Qadirans in full plate, axe-wielding elves, tiefling paladins, and so forth) at some time, if there's demand for such, and if the biz is going off like gangbusters, I might even re-open doing commissions for folks when I can leave the day job. As always, thoughts, feelings, and requests are encouraged. Don't be afraid to comment; believe me, I read them. :D Laithoron wrote:
I'm working on making color vs. black and white as a layer option with Adobe Reader (and other PDF readers), but I have to buy the requisite software first. I'm just a guy who got a licensing deal with Paizo, and the current profits are pretty much going towards PaizoCon, with the remainder folding back into the business side of things, but believe me, I want them as much as you do. :D Laithoron wrote: * Once the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary is released, it would be superb if we could get a whole line of these (perhaps bundled by monster type) with a few variations for each creature. That's a work in progress. Obviously, some thing will show up (gnolls, goblinoids, the PC races, etc.), but until I get a complete list of monsters (and some idea of the visual changes to the Paizo versions of monsters- see goblins for example), I'm stuck with what they've covered so far. I do hope to have them all covered some time (with specific racial packs for stuff like goblins where multiple versions of one basic monster are good, and related packs for stuff like certain fey or aberrations where you'll only need one or two versions of a specific monster). All that keeps that happening after I've got a list of monsters is the time to draw them all, and since I'll release sets as I go, hopefully I'll have the must-haves covered quickly enough to make using them in most games a possibility ASAP. Laithoron wrote: * Is there an RSS feed we can add specifically for this line? (i.e. so we can rack-up on Minis as they are released) That would be brilliant, actually. I'll have to look up a way to do that. I do have a Facebook page, and will probably do one for just the minis line shortly; I always upload a link to the new minis there. If you guys have got a Facebook account, search for "Ashton Sperry" and you'll find me. :D Laithoron wrote:
Excellent call on the cardstock; as for glue, I'm using Scotch Quick-Dry Tacky Adhesive at the moment. If you're looking for a spray-on glue, try 3M Spra-Ment. Basically, you're looking for a glue with a low water content to keep the minis from warping. There's a lot of them out there, but look for glues that mention being good with paper crafts and you're in the right area. Gray Eminence wrote: One more question: will you include monsters for the Set Piece also in your future sets? Like Salamanders and fire snakes for the one in Pathfinder #20? I've been toying with the idea of doing minis for the Set Pieces, but haven't decided one way or another. The options for doing that as I see them are: * Make the Set-Piece a new PDF
Each of these has cons for both me and you (an extra set means you have to spend more money, adding the minis on top delays the product while I add an additional 4-8 minis or so and makes side projects like the goblins harder to squeeze in, using up available slots from the adventure means less monsters from the main adventure make it into the product). I'll mull it over a bit, and please, everyone, feel free to chime in with your thoughts! Kosivo0121 wrote: I hope seafood joints in the pacific northwest are cheaper than they are here in Missouri where they make my wallet cry. Website's got the pricing info for you, sir. Dunno how awesomely sociable we'll be after the road trip, though. I'll do my darndest to come by the "Meet & Eat/Beat & Eat" shindig, despite my utter loathing of pretty much all seafood. I suppose I can always order a salad or some fries or something (sadly, the chicken alternative usually offered at most seafood places is breaded, i.e. covered in gluten, as is 90% of the food available at restaurants). Hey, Timitius, does this crab place serve booze? 'Cuz I can always just have a liquid dinner. :P
