This may the the only thread to comment on, considering Sean's zealousness in closing so many others. I am concerned that Paizo is actually not considering a mistake in their design decisions for this book and telling everyone "too bad, it's set in stone" has been very counterproductive, sadly.

The reason I saw no reason to playtest these is because from reading all of them, they're gestalts. There's nothing unique about any of them, like there was with the Magus and Gunslinger. I guess the "playtest" is really just "see what abilities we can mix together to make the perfect hybrid." I was hoping for new mechanics or a big twist on old mechanics. That's my feedback and I think it's legitimate coming from an experienced gamer.

The other fact is I am disappointed in these being called "Classes" when, in truth, they stated they're "Alternate Classes". So Paizo wants suggestions and feedback? Please change the name, do not false advertise. I was looking forward to a book of classes, not alternate classes. And, personally, I feel some of these alternate classes should be able to multiclass (like Investigator/Ninja would be interesting or Swashbuckler/Fighter).

Would it be that hard to maybe reconsider the design decisions and start from scratch or take the design in a different direction at this point? Can't assume you never make mistakes.

Looking through this Playtest and I see no reason why I should bother. All these classes are uninspiring and mechanically bland. Each one is just a "hybrid" and a very literal, and poor one, at that. A couple of them are promising (Investitagor, Arcanist, and Slayer) but they barely get my attention.

I am quite disappointed at this. This book doesn't feel like a book of "CLASSES" to me, but more like a book that should be called "Advanced ALTERNATE Class Guide" as all these classes look to be nothing more than taking two classes, throwing a few abilities together, and giving them a couple of synergetic abilities and calling it a day. There's nothing unique about these, PRESTIGE CLASSES can cover these types "classes", if you wanna call it that. Heck, some of them can be better suited as archetypes.

Even the Magus and Gunslinger were more mechanically unique and interesting than all of these classes combined. None of these classes are as mind-blowing as those two.

Again, sorely disappointed. This is just my critique and if Paizo wants more of my interest (and money) in this product I expect better.

I would like to weigh in my vote that we lift the Multiclass Restrictions. I do not see the reason why, I don't think they fit. It's a silly mechanic and completely limits options and story/background RP. Because there is no story reason why they could not multiclass.

I lifted the Ninja and Rogue restriction in my games and it works fine. Antipaladin and Paladin make sense to restrict.

So, paizo, please disregard the restrictions officially. If you don't then I guess we will lift them unofficially in ours.

There's actually an audience for this kind of book? I have to say of all the products, this one looks to be the most lame of them all. I sense many will pass on this as there's nothing new in here to use for a game (like GM rules or Player crunch like feats, spells and such) and it looks like a book that can easily be replaced by talking amongst your gaming peers in real life or online.

Rather disappointed, let's hope the next RPG book after this is something worthwhile. Like "Advanced Player's Guide 2" or maybe "Ultimate Combat 2" or "Ultimate Magic 2"

Can you tell I like my other Alignment entities besides the typical angel/devil/demon caste that gets way overdone?

Silver Crusade

Really...? We need this garbage in Bestiary 4? Again, this is why my campaign, which is based on the alignments at war, particularly law and chaos, I am not receiving more Inevitables? What am I paying you guys for?

I have noticed every month Paizo keeps pushing the products up another week. Why is that? I am starting to think you guys should play it safe and just mark all the products at the end of the month and if they happen to come out earlier than announce it.

Silver Crusade

Really...? They wasted a monster slot for this book on this when it could've been used for a new Aeon or Inevitable?

Paizo is abandoning their cool monsters now... :'(

Eh, first creature up and I don't run mythic rules so it's useless without a conversion or non-mythic stats.

Does not bode well for my pre-order.

Dude, just take off all the mythic components. It's not that hard.

I just find it weird they use 3rd party stuff in their modules and AP, like the Advanced Bestiary book or whatever it's called, but refuse to use psionic material, too. Advanced Bestiary is not in the PRD either.

Regardless of the reasons why, I am upset that new and more interesting creatures like Aeons and Inevitables are being ignored and never thought up by Paizo again. Would it have really hurt to put in just one or two new ones of each? Instead, we get a unicorn rabbit? Really!? To completely ignore them simply makes me wonder why the concepts were even bothered to be included in the game if all Paizo is going to do is spam the "usuals". Whatever. Maybe you guys will reconsider when Bestiary 5 is released.

I wanna know what crunch is in this book, not about the art. What new bag of goodies can us players use?!

The game assumes you are heroes.

Heroes are more likely to fight evil monsters than neutral or guardians-of-balance monsters.
D/d/d have an extensive real world and in-game mythology, which makes them interesting and a fertile ground for new ideas.
I dispute the idea that there are "hardly any" new outsiders in groups other than demons, devils, or daemons. We've added new archons/azatas/etc. in each Bestiary, added asuras/divs/kamis/kytons/oni/rakshasa as new outsider categories, and so on.

Aeons are completely new, very weird, tend to make the PCs feel like bad guys, and there isn't really a champion of aeons on staff, so there isn't much push to do more with them.

Not to sound aggressive, but that sounds like a creative issue than a game issue. If the game is assumed to always be played by heroes, why bother statting anything other than things to kill? There can be many reasons why one would combat such beings, or is combat now the only method of interaction with them? Since it stems from creative issues with the Paizo team, that means such creatures rely on home-game creativity, GMs that can and will have a place to use them in their games (e.g. maybe a GM is running a campaign world where the balance of Law and Chaos is in jeopardy and Good and Evil are second-hand issues?)

I just find that reason for not catering to the GMs that would enjoy finding creative use of such creatures over those that can easily drop a demon in the middle of anywhere (and, thus, perpetuating cliched, casually boring, scenarios) rather empty and one-sided.

It was already stated that there will not be any new Aeons. As for Inevitables I think were not getting any of those as well.

That is rather disheartening. Why does Paizo give us twenty million different types of demons and devils and such but hardly any new fun and more unique creatures like Aeons and Inevitables?

Paizo disappoints me now. :(

Silver Crusade

Some new Aeons and Inevitables please!!! I am probably in the minority on this, but it seems the coolest beings get the least love in this game!

Paizo promised us psionic material, they even have mention of it in their campaign book. However, they have failed to produce one after so many years.

I wish they would use Dreamscarred Press's stuff for their APs and other materials. Why don't they team up? I see them using 3rd party material in some of their APs concerning monsters, but they seem afraid to touch psionics.

Please, Paizo, use their stuff for your setting. It's only fitting.

I saw that Paizo is going to release a book on 10 new classes next year. which I am against because they barely support the ones they have now (Gunslinger, Samurai and Ninja especially).

What I miss are prestige classes. No, I know about Paths of Prestige but that is all campaign specific and I just want the RPG stuff, not the campaign stuff.

Advanced Player's Guide was the only book to have non-world specific prestige classes. That and a few of the Player Companions, but that list is so small. When will we see more generic prestige classes again? I would like to see Ninja prestige classes, Gunslinger prestige classes, ones for Summoners, prestige class hybrids (like a Gunslinger Spellcaster), and other niches.

I don't really like archetypes all that much. They shoehorn and don't allow for much customization. Also, I believe one of the designers, James Jacobs, specifically said on these boards that he likes prestige classes because they do what archetypes can't, which is to allow almost any class access to the theme. For example, anyone with the prerequisites can enter Duelist, but if Duelist were an archetype, only a Fighter can benefit and no other class.

Please bring back prestige classes. I miss them :(

Silver Crusade

I am not happy with this at all. Now you want to do a Class glut to this game? You guys barely support the new classes in Pathfinder (especially the Gunslinger, Ninja, and Samurai). How do you expect to support 10 more classes for us?

And no, I do not want to use 3rd party stuff. Can we at least expect more class crunch material in the Player Companions from here on out?

Thanks.

Hello. I always thought subscribers get their PDFs once a product is shipped and it usually ships earlier than nonsubcribers, about a week or less. No one has yet to receive theirs yet?
