The OP voiced his feelings and I have to say I agree with a lot of it.
Personally though I'm going to add I hope 5e is a flaming bomb of epic proportions.
So much so that hasbro liquidates WoTC and sells off all of TSR's old IP. Or at the very least looks to sell WoTC along with the licensing. I would love to see Paizo scoop up Forgotten Realms, Krynn, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Planescape.. etc on the cheap and give them a home where they will be appreciated and taken care of instead of strictly milked for profit above all else.
Many will think this harsh, but the fact is WotC lied, repeatedly, to our faces. They swore up and down on their forum that they had no intentions of releasing a 4th edition anytime soon. Not 2 weeks after their repeated denials they suddenly announced that 4th ed was coming soon and well into development, and it was)
Couple that with them driving away a good portion of their creative staff, changing worlds not to improve them but for the sole purpose of reselling them, clamping down on their licensing, defaming their existing fans and the previous editions, canceling subscription magazines.. etc etc..
They have shown themselves to be poor and damaging stewards of the DnD brand in my opinion.

Well, then PACK YOUR BAGS because I'm playing Powerball this week!

I'm sure to win!

How could you not? I hear it's a sure thing. :-)

P.S. I always keep my TPK bag packed. It carries the custom-painted, Slumbering Tsar-inspired Orcus figurine created by Reaper Minis. All those PC souls gotta' go somewhere.

Of course I can't help but wonder if FFG's (other) magnum opus,

The Slumber Tsar Saga

will cause this much stir again when it releases in hardcover (sometime next year, please please?).

Good gaming to all,

I heard if you buy 100 of them Greg will come to your house and personally run the first season for you. :)

Now that's quality service!

Where do I order?

;)

I will totally do this. Someone buys 100 of these babies, I'll fly out and run game with them. That said, it should say "session" rather than "season". My wife will be expecting me home after all.

Let me just add that every year at PaizoCon I try to run a little bit of this as a game slot or two (and going to PaizoCon is a lot cheaper than hitting the "Buy" button 100 times).

Be forewarned, my goal is always TPK, though. No cakewalks from me. That'll cost you at least 1,000 purchases. ;-)

Now, I preordered from Frog God after a lot of soul (and wallet) searching. In the end my got-to-have-them-all beat my can't-afford-it-must-feed-baby. I love the fact that I got in for the limited edition but I also love the fact that all this open content can now go further.

I remember Bill's posts before Paizo placed their monstrous order and how they were worrying about paying the preorders upfront. That so many people have just discovered this doesn't surprise me - I frequently had to search for this thread. There are often more than ten active threads in this forum!

So now it's been such a success, and the risk has paid off so well that Frog God can do a second run. Good for them - they deserve it. Plus, another few thousand PCs will scream in agony in the new year :-)

Greg spoke wisely - every single reaction to this whole crazy success story shows the dedication and love people have for this hobby. And that can only be good.

Ok...wish granted. Unlimited edition in the works:)
