He smiles, though appears a bit puzzled. He takes a gelled strand of hair that fell towards his face when he removed his hat and tucks it back in."Well I have to ask what else you do. Seems thats all the professions for Emile's parties."

"I am an arbiter with varying clients that want me to settle disputes. You'd be surprised at how many of them arise these days."

"I do, though not always."

Marcus wavers her off of picking the lock, at least for now, and introduces her to the foreigner, "pardon out rudeness, this is my sister, Nishara. Nishara, this is Tomas"

"Charmed." she says while holding out her hand.

I'm going with staying with Marcus, so when he went to investigate the music I would have gone along. If this is not feasible please let me know.

Looking about, Nishara listens for any other people nearby (other than those behind the door).

Perception: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 4 = 25

Gesturing to the lock, Nishara looks questioningly at Marcus to see if he wants her to unlock the door.

<3 you. I will make a post in your honor! If you need any questions or if I was unclear of anything in the past, I am able to answer anything.

Why thank you! I'm still going through everything and have no questions so far.

Edit: Would it be reasonable to say that Nishara stayed with Marcus?

Alright, I'm catching up on posts, though there are 120 of them. Expect a post sometime tonight or tomorrow once I am up-to-date.

I apologize in advance for not posting recently. I lost my job which has led me to scramble to get things in motion to keep my bills paid. I will be getting a post up tonight to keep things moving.

Once again I apologize. Life throws a curve ball every now and again.

Nishara nods to Marcus in the affirmative to his question.

The party seems to be going well. That is until....Eduard overreacts about the seer. Abigal has it is hand, though Nishara is still amused.

"Bodyguards. Always the overzealous type. How they have such a mindset is beyond me. Guards are the easiest to impersonate, no personality."

Chuckling to herself, she catches Marcus' eye. With that, she stands.

"Pardon me, this wine is...fulfilling its purpose. I shall return presently."

The first thing she does is investigate the scream outside the room.

What do we see upon arrival?

I am used to having a Psionic telepath in the party where this is never an issue.

Also, don't you both speak Sylvan? I am sure no one else speaks that.

To be honest I completely forgot about that in my tired state.

[dice=not entirely sure, am I supposed to role the sense motive or is that for people to intercept]1d20+10

if I'm not required to roll the sense motive

if I am required to beat the DC, which seems kinda weird that the better you are at sending secret messages the less likely they'll be understood by the intended recipient Marcus looks over at his sister curious as to what was going on with his sister and gestures with his shoulder to the door indicating to her he wants her to follow him so that she can actually tell him what she wanted, but first he bids his companions goodby and thanks them for a wonderful conversation.

Bluff skill.

Actually, the DC is 15 for simple concepts and 20 for complex. If you make the DC then the target automatically understands you, no roll on their part needed.

My putting the DC is for anyone else to intercept it other than you.

Seth, I am currently scanning the second floor of the map, then I will get to you being upstairs. It is the rough draft but will do for now. When I arrive back at college, I will most likely be using a tablet to draw map, or maybe opting for a video game like mini map.

I currently pay for the supporter level on Roll20 if you wish to make maps that way. Dynamic lighting is pretty cool, as is tablet support. :-)

Nishara fidgets (something she never does) until she gets Marcus' attention.

Bluff to send a secret message to Marcus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Sense Motive for the secret message to Marcus, DC 27:
"Something is about to happen in the trophy room. Shall I slip in to quietly observe?"

Nishara wears a buccaneer's outfit adorned with various jewelry and a rather fine cloak.

Nishara's attire.

Those that cast detect magic:
You know that Nishara's cloak is radiating an aura.

The conversation begins with that lout Francis Lyon rambling on about his feelings in regards to the nation of Galatine. Her eyes focused on him and listened to everything he was saying, though not all was paid attention to.

Nishara's eyes flit back and forth to each one that is speaking, keeping an ear to each topic as it progresses. Her attention is kept light on each topic to ensure she listens for anything of import.

When Marcus teases Lyon about his ring, she gives her brother a wry smile.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 4 = 31 Canny Observer bonus included.

Normally I would not make a perception roll to hear a particular conversation, but she is attempting to track multiple ones and that is a bit trickier then it at first seems.

She seems content to watch the happenings of the dinner for the moment, choosing to remain silent.

I am out and about right now, but as soon as I get home I'll get a post up.

More inter-session stuff:

Diplomacy for action 3: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Inter-session stuff:

Money rolls: 4d550 ⇒ (302, 140, 425, 181) = 1048

Disguise: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (15) + 22 = 37

As for games, too many times have I been in a game where combat was predominant. I like this style of game the most. Of note, I also play an Ancient Silver Dragon in a different PbP. That is so radically different it's incredible.

There are 3rd party dice rollers that we can use and link to if we want to keep our rolls secret. I have one bookmarked that I will link when I get home.

If anyone finds out, Marcus wouldn't hesitate to have such a person discreetly killed if nesairy (and possible).

I sent you a PM about some character details regarding Nishara.

How do you feel I could have come to know you? Anyone is free to look over my background to see what could be used to make a connection.

Looking forward to the ideas.

PS: What information, if any, would Nishara know about any of the PCs?

Spoiler:
For your consideration as to connections to Halcyon (Halcy):

Halcyon sat in her usual spot toward the back of the Tall Tail. She sipped apple mead and nibbled on the delicious cinnamon bread as she laid out harrow cards slowly. As usual, her eyes were covered with a violet tinted set of glasses that mostly hid the clouded sheen that covered her dark eyes. She never looked directly at the card, but rather put her hand over each card, and set it in place. As she did, faint images sprang into existence on the elaborate fabric mat she used as a carrying case for her well-used cards. These images played out little silent scenes until she swept the cards into a pile and shuffled them before starting again. As usual, it wasn’t long before she had a couple of young aristocratic woman asking giggly questions about some young nobleman.

After a while, the raven haired oracle put her deck away, indicating the time for readings was over. A handsome bard had begun reciting verses for the amusement of the audience. Nishara approached with a bottle of mead to see if Halcyon needed a refill. Before she got to the table, before she had said a word, Halcyon had moved her mug over to where Nishara could pour the mead.

“Seems like a good crowd tonight, Nishara,” Halcyon commented as the golden brew sparkled into her cup. “Is the bard as handsome as he sounds?”

Nishara could not recall telling Halcyon her name, but it did not surprise her that the oracle knew it. Lots of regulars knew her name and it was surely bandied about in her earshot. “He’s passing fair,” the server said.

They chatted for a bit before other customers required her services.

A couple more bards took turns entertaining the crowd, collected their rewards in their hats, and then a slight woman with a large black cloak made her way to the small stage near one wall, tapping a staff in front of her as she went.

It was Halcyon and she waited until she was on stage to take off her cloak, revealing a violet dress trimmed in black velvet, showing a lot of cleavage and drawing the attention of the men of the crowd. She introduced herself as Halcy d’Orsay and then began to tell a story she called “The Lion and the Fox.” The story involved a couple of foxes whose peaceful life was disturbed when a pride of lions took up residence in the same forest. Not only did the lions frighten away much of the prey the foxes relied on, they attracted hunters trying to capture one of the fine beasts. The foxes made a truce with the mice they normally ate and there followed an amusing tale of deception that resulted in both the hunters and the lions leaving the forest in peace.

The audience readily identified the lions with the country Galatine and the hunters, who drove them away, with Roland. Nishara, however, couldn’t help but pick up on little details of the story that linked Nishara with the character of one of the mice, who used magic to imitate various creatures of the forest. It could all be just coincidence, but she also noted that when telling those parts of the stories, Halcy was facing the general direction of Nishara, even though Nishara was constantly moving around waiting on customers.

After the performance, Nishara congratulated Halcy on her clever tale and asked about the character of the shape-changing mouse. To anyone else listening to the two, they were talking about the story, but to Nishara it soon became clear that there was a subtext to the discussion that was about Nishara and Halcyon. Through that exchange, she came to recognize that Halcyon was a player in the same game of information brokering and both were sympathetic to the same ideals.

Thereafter, they occasionally collaborated on leads and commissions. While Nishara had a patron, Halcyon worked for no one interest; but she never worked at cross purposes with Nishara, which led them to become friends. Nishara learned that the mysterious oracle could actually see quite well at short distances, even in total darkness.

Halcy did not speak much of her past, but Nishara strongly suspected that the story about her moving to Roland from Murgleis was as fictional as her story about the lions and foxes. Halcyon also knew that Nishara and her brother were Kitsune. Both had arrived at a tacit understanding that either could learn more about the secret past of the other but that they would not pursue that information actively.

Halcy continues to be a regular at the Tall Tail, but she also spent many nights at other locations. Some were parties of the well-to-do but she also know the oracle sometimes mingled with the lower classes at less reputable pubs, doing readings for free or cheap, sometimes providing healing when she learned of a worker who was injured on the job. Nishara also knew Halcyon had a consulting business that brought her regular income as wealthy customers sought insights into their futures and advice on how to navigate the intricate worlds of business and high society.

Sometimes, Halcy would contact Nishara and ask her to find out some information on a particular nobleman or woman. This usually meant that said noble was scheduled to meet for the first time at Halcy's consulting firm and Halcy liked to have some tidbits of information to slip into her readings that helped convince the noble that she had supernatural insights. Nishara always got a cut of the fee when she helped in this way.

Looks great, though I have but one point that I would like to discuss. I completely forgot to mention that the only PC who knows that Nishara is a Kitsune is Marcus. I realize that this info is in the alias, but that is just for the crunch. Being a shapeshifter such as her tends to draw attention and she is more than paranoid about it. She also doesn't take new forms randomly, and would keep this knowledge from others unless she was completely sure about them. Is there something that would cause Nishara to trust you with this secret?

Or, how would you have found out about it otherwise?

I'm not trying to dissuade you from knowing if it makes sense. I like the connection, very nice indeed!

Now that I have some essentials worked out I am ready to forge more connections. In your motivation section you mention that you are looking for more family heirlooms. Nishara might have been pointed out by an NPC that Nishara had worked for in the past. The NPC probably would have given Nishara's name as one who is able to obtain information that proved impossible for anyone else to get.

Does this seem acceptable to you?

I will give it a bit of time. If there is no post from two weeks of GM's last post I will make a decision then.

She puts her hand on his.

"I'm sorry about your mother." she says gently.

It seemed like a good life, living in the patch, growing in the sun, so happy and lazy. Yep, I'd like to be a pumpkin."

"Not quite. My magic only goes so far. I can be an elf, dwarf, or even human as you can see. Although it only lasts so long before it wears off. That's why you see me as human today."

Nishara facepalms.

"What have I got myself into?"

Gazzer wrote:
Gazzer smiles at Nishara. "Hi, I'm Gazzer. What's your name?"

"Nishara. I was the elf last night if you recall. Just a magical disguise I was wearing. So, you excited for the journey?"

"Hey Gazzer, wait up. I'll join you."

And with that, Nishara hops up on the back of the wagon.

Nishara comes down for breakfast and decides against it when she sees the "bun diver" eat something that would choke a horse.

She moves to another table and orders some vegetables and mild wine and tries to keep from being too nauseated.

Nishara heads off to her room to get some rest.

When she comes down in the morning she will look like a human woman instead of the elf from yesterday. If anyone asks she tells them that she is human and uses magic disguises and the elf was just what she had been using the day before.

Bardy appears to completely ignore the nuances of the conversation regarding the beautiful elven woman at first. In between mouthfuls of leather he can be heard muttering She ain't nothin special. I bet she cain't even find maggots to eat.

After a few more gnaws on the boot he stops chewing and his eyes glaze over dreamily as he mutters wistfully now my Belb Waddle was somethin. The way her shoulder fur blew in a breezy day. Mmmmm

"What you had is of no concern to me. Nor are maggots or leather. There are better ways to live." she says with an air of disdain.

Forgive me Mishkakal. I really don't mean any harm to him. Maybe elf form was not such a good idea. I think I know how to get myself out of this one. Shouldn't be too hard.

Nishara smiles when she notices all the attention.

"Hello. I am Nishara. And you are?" she asks Gazzer.

"Well! This should take care of expenses for a time. Till more comes along anyway."

An extremely beautiful elven women accepts the bag of coins offered.

She cringes slightly at the comment from Baptiste about the women.
