Male Human Optician 10

Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry that I've been out of touch for so long, but a lot of stuff has happened over the last few weeks. We had a funeral for my mother. Lots of relatives, many I didn't even know. Lots of trips to ATL airport, too. I put two wills into probate. And I finally quit my crappy job. Then I took a week off from the world and went to the mountains, with nothing but squirrels, birds, and DVDs to keep me company.

2012 and 2013 have not been very kind to my family and I. Both of my parents were in and out of hospitals and nursing homes for the last 11 months. Dad passed from cancer in February and Mom just recently from kidney failure. Both of them were pretty miserable for the last few months of their lives.

Trips to two different hospitals every day, watching my parents getting worse and worse, was tough. Combine that with working full time for a company I was growing to hate, plus having to take care of my own life, and I was worn out. My sister-in-law's family owns a cabin in the mountains and it was suggested that I go there rest and "recharge my batteries." Now I know what "stir crazy" feels like.

But the worst is over now. Tomorrow I'll get sworn in as executor and start handling their final affairs. I have the free time to do it.

Phillip, I'm really glad to see you're doing well.

I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a few days. We had another death in the family and I haven't had the chance to web-surf like I usually do. This next week will be pretty hectic, so I may not be able to check in.

Wellard, go ahead and GMPC Omara if you need to.

Male Human Optician 10

While that doesn't sound like "good" news, it does sound like "it could be worse." We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm sorry I haven't been able to check in as much as I'd like lately. We had a death in the family recently, and I fear another may be coming soon. (Not mine, so don't get the wrong idea.)

Phillip, I really hope things work out in your favor. Let us know how things turn out.

I don't know. I'm kind of waiting to see the player's guide for this one. The title alone gives me pause: Reign of Winter. Between the Jade Regent game going to the Crown of the world, Skyrim, and real world weather, I'm already getting tired of wintery-ness. I don't know if I'd want another game set in snow and ice.

Male Human Optician 10

Sorry, I'm still here. I just have a lot of stuff going on and haven't had the chance to check in.

Male Human Optician 10

Sorry I haven't posted anything in the last few days. I just had laser vision correction surgery last week and am just now getting to where I can stare at the monitor and actually make out most of the words!

Male Human Optician 10

Welcome back!
The Discussion tab didn't show any updates, so I didn't check it and didn't see your post.

Male Human Optician 10

Now that I've had a chance to read up on it, I like the fame and prestige system. I wasn't sure how it would work for a non-PFS game, but it looks good.

I'm neutral about the hero points. We haven't used them in Wellard's Jade Regent game. I keep forgetting about it, so it's like it isn't even there.

I think the critical and fumble decks are better for a table-top game where most of the fun is having the players draw their own cards and read them aloud.

Stay safe!

While I was at Gen Con, I commissioned rpg artist Talon Dunning to draw me a picture of Omara.

I'm quite happy with the result.

However, I completely forgot to tell him about the hat.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm back. Spent too much money and got too little sleep. Lots of interesting stuff in the future from Paizo.

Male Human Optician 10

I think I've got my concept down. I just need to put it in Hero Lab and get the stats up. It'll be Sunday before I can get to that, though.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm off to Gen Con! I"ll be back on Sunday. I'll try to check in once or twice, but if I don't then feel free to take actions for me. Omara will attack one of the creatures, if there is one still alive when she gets there.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm still working on the wizard. I just have to find the time to put it all together. Hopefully after this coming weekend, I'll have more free time.

Male Human Optician 10

How about a wizard of the teleportation school?
Sorry I'm kind of slow with this, I've got a lot going on.

Male Human Optician 10

Hmmm. Paladin, sorcerer, oracle, inquisitor. What would fit in with this bunch?

Male Human Optician 10

It sounds interesting. I've downloaded the player's guide, but I haven't taken a good look at it. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, it's been a rough week.

Male Human Optician 10

Glad to hear you're doing better.

Male Human Optician 10

Is anyone else going to Gen Con this year. I've been gaming for decades, but this will be my first Gen Con.

Male Human Optician 10

I've leveled Omara up. Took Two Weapon Fighting and +1 HP for favored class.

Male Human Optician 10

I usually don't plan my characters out in advance. I prefer to watch them grow, instead. Omara is now a prime example. I had originally intended for her to multi-class into bard for a few levels. I allocated ability scores and skill points with that in mind. I still like the idea of Inspire Whatever, however, I can no longer envision her casting spells. She has become a martial character in my mind.

With that in mind, I am thinking about a couple of options. One is dipping into fighter for a few levels. The other is sticking with rogue until she becomes eligible for the Duelist PrC. Right now, I'm leaning toward the latter. I have always envisioned her using two weapons, and that has not changed. She'll pick up Two Weapon Fighting either this level or next. I am also toying with the idea of Exotic Weapon Prof with the wakizashi, but that would come later.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Sheesh! I leave you two alone for FIVE minutes . . ."

Male Human Optician 10

Sounds good to me. Thanks for the extra time and effort.

Male Human Optician 10

Thanks for the offer, Devon, but I think I'll pass. I just can't seem to muster enough enthusiasm for a sea-going game to come up with a character concept I like. I wouldn't want to waste everyone's time with a half-hearted effort.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm just getting over a cold, myself. I hope you're feeling better.

Male Human Optician 10

I'm going to be away from my computer for a couple of days.
I hope you all enjoy whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year.

Today, Nov. 11, is "Veteran's Day" here in the U.S.. The day we honor our military veterans for their service. This is a poem written by my 5 year old niece. She got to read it in front of her entire elementary school at their presentation this morning. I didn't get to see it, I had to work. :(

"Veterans are brave
Veterans are strong.
They are like knights
they fight against wrong.
Grandpa was in Vietnam
Uncle Scott in Desert Storm.
They are in my heart.
They proudly wore their uniform."

I just thought I'd share.

Thanks! Omara was created specifically for Jade Regent. I'll work on stats and such and have it up by this afternoon.

I would love to participate in this if it's still open.

GM:
That's cool. That's why I asked instead of just assuming.

Lila's Thoughts:
There's too many people for my spells! I don't have my crossbow, either. All I have left is my staff. Melee!? This sucks!(or the Golarion equivalent)

The goblin attacking P'Aye should be close enough for Lila to close and attack with her staff. If the goblin is on a statue, she will attempt to knock it off with her attack.

Male Human Optician 10

Another thing to keep in mind is that we're first level. It's in our job description to come across things we've never dealt with before. If we come up on a situation that no one knows how to deal with, we either find a way to avoid it or muddle through it as best we can and hope for the best. Afterwards, someone can say "That was tough, I think I'll study up on it." No one should feel obligated to change their starting concept just to fill a void in skills. Just learn the skill when you gain your next level. That's why they're called "Experience" points.

I would like to participate. I have never been in a PbP game, so this would all be new to me. I live in GMT-5 and can post every day.

My character:

Spoiler:
Siri: CG female Gnome Oracle of the Heavens.
A young Gnome who sees an opportunity to travel to unknown lands and experience new things. A young Gnome whose abilities could be very useful to explorers and adventurers (maybe she should have said that first.) A young Gnome who is desperately trying to escape the incredibly boring life of a tailor.

As far as which anime to watch, try this sight:

If you'll allow classes from the Advanced Player's Guide, I've been thinking about an Inquisitor.

A half-elf, born and raised in an orphanage in Magnimar and molded into an Inquisitor by priests of Sarenrae, who is now searching for answers to longstanding questions.

I have submitted my concept.
