Nine Tail looks up from where he was trying to follow tracks. He was about to make a flippant remark about a short boy and a shorter dog, but the spirit inside him does not feel like laughing. He backs up more toward the group, and looks to Valen, If we are to spend eternity here, let it be on the boss man's shoulders.

Nine Tail realizes now why his skin crawled, How many spirits have passed through me as I stood here.

"If we are now in the realm of the spirits, the search for the boy and dog can continue, but mark this spot where we entered in order we might find the way back."

Nine Tail tries to resume his tracking of where the boys tracks previously disappeared.

"In", and Nine Tail points into the empty village, in the direction the footprints seemed to lead.

a few paces back from the disappearance zone, he adds, "There is one way to find the boy and the dog..." He raises his foot out in front and mimes almost falling forward until finally he steps forward with a big thump. "Its the getting back that I can't figure out."

"I traveled here from Tian Xia through means such as this, but it was not something I planned or controlled. The Spirit Realm will not yield to me in such a way. But I must have disappeared from the land in a similar way leaving those who followed me to scratch their heads..yip-yip." And he lets out a joyful bark.

"So this boy and his dog may have traveled like I had to a far destination or they are right here, but in the Spirit Realm, a mere step in front of us. I am not mystic, but the magics back in the castle may be making the barrier between places insecure. To this village, we may be the Spirits waiting to step through and become real."

Nine Tail stops to examine a small set of tracks. "It looks like the boy was here, but his tracks fade off to nothing...right about here. This may be the boundary of the Town's effect."

Nine Tail sets to looks about to see if there is evidence that anyone might be about, especially children. Entering what might likely be a portal to a spirit world, he feels his senses heightened. From within his mask he scans for tracks and any sign of movement.

"Find the dog, and we find the boy. Gotcha!" Nine Tail pulls down his fox mask and jogs out to take point.

Nine Tail sets out to scout around the parked wagons awaiting the return of their august leader.

Nine-Tail has his mask pulled across his face, ready for action, although nothing seems to be wrong. "Hard to track what walks on air, Boss. But give me a moment."

He opens his senses to the increased senses his mask bestows on him as he looks aobut, Wise Grandfather, do you see anything I cannot?.

"These rocks won't stop vampires. They can become bats can't they. They flap up and crawl under your bedroll and you are dead by sunrise. Not much you can do but sleep with one eye open...yip-yip" Nine-Tail chuckles to himself as he helps gather firewood.

"Smoke and Shadow and Bad Dreams. But it seems nothing that needs our immediate concern....for nothing will stick around long enough to get two looks at it."

"We likely picked up some dark spirits after visiting the castle. Hopefully that are just capricious, but even if malicious, let's hope harder they are not organized and simply marking our path for others."

Sword out, Nine Tail makes his way to the edge of the firelight. "Something is out there, but I can't get a good look at it. It shifts, moves, or vanishes.."

Nine Tail, at Valen's words, pulls his mask down across his face from where it had been riding high on his head.

Nine Tail separates from Mirri with a jolt and the crack of the rifle. "Sorry to have our story time interrupted, but danger beckons. Or Jax has finally had one too many jokes out of Valen."

With sword in hand, Nine Tail finds his gear to retrieve his shield.

"We're accounted for...I mean Mirri and I."

"There is no shame in being oneself, but I understand when you feel you are different. I have never met a true kitsune before, for your kin are shy and reclusive around where I grew up. But I have met one of your ancestors..."

Nine Tail pulls off his armor chain shirt and then his tunic. "You see...this is not exactly a tattoo. Stand back because he can be dangerous." With his back to the fire, Nine Tail releases the hold he shares with his spirit. With a flutter, the colorful tails on his back ripple and move on his back..and then begin to flow out from his skin to wave in the firelight. He concentrates, and the tails revert to their inked form.

He starts to dress again, "I made a deal with one of your ancestors. I think he lived in a tree, I am not sure, it was raining and at night. But he agreed to save me from some troubles I got into if I agreed to carry him from that place. Well I agreed, and woke up on a Varisian beach with this tattoo on my back and his presence in my mind. I think he brought us through the First World, although I remember only brief glimpse as if in a fevered dream."

"I know that must sound weird, it being your kin...it's not that he talks to me, but he likes new things and to travel...I guess spending so long as a tree spirit can do that. So now we travel the roads. I can tell if he gets bored at staying in one place too long. So a mercenary caravan guard is the perfect job. It means I have left my art behind, but for the second chance he has granted me, it is worth it."

"So yeah...We can be pretty safe with your secret"

Taken a bit off guard, Nine-Tail stammers, "Well..um...sure. Most people don't believe anything I have to say anyway" He says with a recovered smile but then puts on a more serious face. "Sure, go ahead. But I am intrigued on why you must tell someone from Tian Xia."

Nine Tail will share nothing too personal about the events of his past. But will share amusing folk tales, and explain briefly about the Emperor and Samurai. And conclude by saying that all the Tian women are so demure and timid that they rarely venture forth from their homes or shops, let alone, join strange caravans filled with even stranger characters.

Nine Tail laughs as he sits at the fire. "If I'd known I would have had competition today, I might not have eaten as much of Mirri's cooking this morning. I suspect a plot. Yip-yip!"

"Erastil...the Stag." He turns to look at Mirri. "A powerful spirit, that one. You have chose wisely."

Jogging along he notices she shows no trouble keeping up. "I am a bit of an artist, but obviously, with it on my back, it is not my work. I had it...commissioned...back in Tian Xia. A rather good friend did the work,...as a means that he might travel with me...in a manner of speaking."

Jogging a few more moments, "You seem quite armed and prepared for waitress in a tavern?...I take that as a good thing, mind you."

Nine Tail hoofs out in front of the wagon. He carries his sword and shield on his back. His new mask riding high on his head. What had seemed to be a wooden human-face mask this morning, is now showing a slight snout to the nose. In a satchel, he places leftover remnants of breakfast.

Nine Tail sets the mask down and picks up a big sausage that he then bites a big chunk off of, "Oh..never better. Just heard from an old friend. Yip-Yip!" He sits quite contentedly looking at Fury's discomfort while enjoying his breakfast.

"Alllllright...Castle sits on a portal to the hells. The ghost of the Lords keeps it temporarily shut, we need to go to Varisia to find an old mage to shut it for good, AND Valen's in charge as the Corporal is retiring. ....Yip, yip!"

Nine-Tail takes the mask and flips it about in his hands. He puts it up eyes and looks at the groggy rifleman, "Owwww" and quickly lowers the mask. "Some things should not be brought into better focus."

He continues examining the mask until he hears Fury's question, "Haha, yip, yip. That's a doozy!" He sits there looking at Fury with a silly grin on his face.

Nine-Tail opens a resistent eye, and sees the big man wandering off. he mutters, "If you weren't so big...

But the Spirit is not to be denied, sensing he was finally awake, Nine-Tail feels compelled to get up and face the day. A day of travel always excited the Spirit. Best get some food as easting will be sparse on foot.

Later at the tavern table enjoying a hearty breakfast of fruits, bread, and grilled meats, Nine-Tail pipes up. "Valen, Torque, you ever figure out what those other items in that chest did?"

I remember there being other items but not sure anyone identified them.

"Yep, better roads, better travel. And I don't mind the occasional fight, but to go looking for one with the orcs seems too reckless, even for us."

About all the knowledge skills should be covered by Valen, Torque and Acune. Nine Tail's got acrobatic, perception, survival, and Know nature. Gremm has climb, perception, and Know nature. We don't likely have a lot of overlap but should have a shot at most things.

Not a lot of stealth...but thats because we have 7ft2in Gremm.
Need a lock picked....we have Gremm <SMASH>.
Need a door opened....we have Gremm <SMASH>.
Need to bypass a trap...we have Nine Tail <BOOM> I have hit points to spare.

I might take disable device later if its a problem, it could fit with the trickster nature of his spirit totem.

"I walked here from Varisia in a few weeks, I can walk back. But I also walked there from Tian Xia in a night, so one never truly knows the extent of one's journey until they reach their destination."

Nine Tail is a definite outsider as a Tien and as fey-touched. He is just happy to find a group of misfits that take him in. So he is along for the ride.
