The man growls at the gnome, "Well if you or the lady won't give it to me, I suppose I will just have to take it by force!" He then swings at the gnome, and the rest of the mercenaries start to head over there to help him. With the first swing, a brawl breaks out in the Inn.
1d20+2=10-4=6, 1d3+1=2
The mercenary missed on his attack. But he will provoke an attack from Feona, and Burrloft if you have a weapon out. Give me initiatives please.

Mercenary 1 Initiative: 1d20+7=9
Merc 2 Init: 1d20+2=17
Merc 3 Init: 1d20-1=8
Merc 4 1d20+1=13
Brawlers (2) 1d20=12

Nils initiative roll of 12+3 for 15 his first action is to draw his paired blades and go after the attackers which reminds me if Nils survives this maybe he ought to pick up improved unarmed attack or initiative...

"Oi Mop head! Take a hike or prepare to meet your maker!"Nils taunts the mercenary leader.
Nils draws his scimitar and kukri and then leaps at the mercenary.

After taking some time to dismount and regain some of his composure, Berenthor straggles in behind the others and joins them at the table. "Quite the trip, eh? Looks like there's a lot going on here, too. Did ye order any drinks yet?"

Nils grins broadly but doesn't say anything.

The serving girl takes Nils order, then disappears for a few moment, returning to their table to hand them the ordered food.

Nils tips her a silver piece.

"Where I'm from its considered good luck to tip,"Nils explains to Feona as the serving girl heads off.
"Mostly because of the effect they have on lycanthropes," he whispers.
"Not so sure if that actually works but you never know..." he mutters as he continues to eat whilst looking around at the inn's interior.

Feona's disappointment in not getting to see the tents disappears when she walks into the inn and smells the food. Her belly reminds her it's been awhile since her last good meal.

"Let's get a table and see what's for supper!" she claps her hands excitedly. Leaning into Berenthor she whispers loudly "Preferably one away from the goblin and his motley crew."

Once they find a table, Feona orders a beer and whatever the special is for the night...and sits back to watch and listen.
Perception: 1d20+7=12

Nils will buy some food and drink to take to the table with Feona and then eat his meal whilst keeping an eye out for troublee but is otherwise uninterested in the fair.

Perception check/visual keeping an eye out for trouble so rolled 1d20+7 for 19+7 and a total of 26, this doesn't mean he's looking to start trouble only to spot it coming soon enough to be prepared

"So from your experience are these inns always like this?" Nils asks Feona.

Feona slides off the horse and looks around. Seeing the banner and the tents, she jerks on Nils' shirt and asks, "What does that say?" pointing to the banner with her other hand...while her eyes are on the colorful tents.

"Shrouds?" Nils mutters a little offput as he understands what else is emblazoned.

"Apparently he's some kind of travelling scholar into relics and funeral rites I think?" Nils explains after a moment of confusion.

They travel for a bit more, the trip uneventful. Upon the beginning of nightfall, they reach the Inn. A well-built inn painted in cheerful colors is tucked beneath the eaves of the forest. A stable stands nearby. A hitching post at the front of the inn has several mounts, and more than one farm wagon sits in the yard. A large red sign above the door proclaims in gilt letters, “Travelers Stop Inn.” Above this sign and stretching across the front of the building is a banner with artistic lettering stating “The Traveling Exhibition of Doctor Phineus Krane, Professor of Antiquities and Master of Shroud Artistry.” A number of colorful tents have been set up at the rear of the inn yard, apparently for this exhibition.

Is there a price tag to go along with the declaration or would that be something left for those who get curious enough to go to the tents for a closer look?

"Is that the place you were talking about?" Nils asks the wagon leader.

"And look at this - there is writing on it! Can you read it Nils? Or you Berenthor?"

She waits while her companions look at the dagger and then asks, "Can I keep it?"

"Don't see why not," Nils whistles softly.

"Don't know what it says but its enchanted," Nils looks over at Berenthor for confirmation then looks back over at where the hobgoblin's body was now hidden.
"I wonder what happened, did he throw it or was it dropped during whatever battle that killed him?" Nils openly wondered.
"We better head on once we reach the inn we'll talk more on this," Nils asks them.

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

OnyxTigress wrote:
Luca nods, "Yes, seems like that would be true. Though I supppose the dogs could have dragged the body out even if it had been hidden. But I give my thanks to you and the others for taking care of this matter. Is there anything else you would like to do before we continue on? We should reach the Inn a little before nightfall."

"I'll just fetch Feona and then we'll move on, the sooner we reach the inn the better at this point,"Nils nodded as he turns to check on Feona.

Nils doesn't want to take the chance Luca might be right

The dwarf finally stumbles off of his mount and joins the others with hammer in hand. Looking around at the bodies with a satisfied nod, he remarks to them, "Ye got all the beasties then? 'Cept fer that one." He points at the hobgoblin carcass. "Looks like the dogs got to 'im first. Lucky fer him! Blasted goblin." He spits.

Looking over Nils, he notices the wounds. "Here, lad. Let a priest do his work and take away the scars of battle for ye. If'n ye wouldn't mind the blessings from the Dwarf-father..."

"My thanks father, have you seen Feona, she was the one who dealt most of the damage to those dogs, but I have no idea who slew the hobgoblin except it wasn't those dogs," Nils replies.

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

OnyxTigress wrote:
The body is that of a hobgoblin. Nils can see many wounds, though it's hard to tell them all due to several chunks of the flesh being ripped away due to the dogs. The corpse is fresh, Nils can determine it has been there about a day. He finds nothing on the body, it looks like it had already been looted.

Nils moves the remains further into the forest so it doesn't alarm the caravan.

He then returns.
"Looks like a hobgoblin ran into something nastier that they were, given it was practically stripped clean I'd suspect adventurers' since bandits would have moved the body out of sight to avoid raising suspicion," Nils quietly tells the wagon leader to avoid further problems and then returns to his mount to untie and head back and looks around for Feona at this point.

I'm assuming this remark isn't totally out of the blue since the body was left close enough to a wagon trail for them to spot without problem?

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

Nils ties his mount to a nearby tree so it can feed before tending to his wound.
Once tended to he'll check out the body to see what unfortunate had fallen prey to these wild dogs.

Heal check rolled (1d20)+5: 14+5 for a total of 19 and once done will then make a Perception check to check on the body, rolling (1d20)+7: 12,+7 for a total of 19

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

If there is still a dog still left then Nils strikes out with his scimitar seeking to put the wild dog down before it suffers any more from the injuries it has sustained rolled (1d20)+3 for 19+3 total of 22 and a possible critical with the second roll to confirm being(1d20)+3 for 11+3 total of 14 I am assuming that doesn't confirm it so the damage roll is (1d6)+2 rolled 3+2 for a total of 5 damage

Nils quickly strikes out with his scimitar catching the dog before it can leap back following Feona's strike even as he does so he tries to keep control of his mount.

Handle Animal roll (1d20+5 for 19+5 for a total of 24 to keep control over his mount however if there's no dog left to fight, then ignore this post

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

So the third dog didn't flee then? Just that you posted it wanted to flee but didn't refer to it until after Feona felled the one who initially hit Nils.

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

OnyxTigress wrote:
You don't get a penalty, but give me a DC 15 handle animal check, and if you fail, give me a strength check.

Nils keeps his mount under control even as he tries to drive off the last remaining wild dog.

Strikes at the other dog with his scimitar Roll(1d20)+3:
9+3 for Total:12 if this hits then damage would be Roll(1d6)+2:
5+2 for Total:7 would there be penalties since Nils is holding his mount steady with his other hand?

The dark mass of the Arthfell Forest looms just to the north of the trade route, an ominous wall of unbroken green and shadow. Not far ahead is the famous Travelers Stop Inn, the only safe refuge in the area. Rounding a bend in the road, you see a trio of mangy dogs playing a gruesome tug-of-war with some sort of humanoid corpse. Their snarls and barks break the silence of the otherwise calm afternoon.

Nils and Feona:
** spoiler omitted **

Nils promptly raises an arm to signal the others to stop in case this is the precursor to an ambush and then scans ahead trying to gauge whats happened from his experiences of battle although this being in a forest makes things difficult, however Feona dismounts and engages one of the wolves with a sling so Nils also dismounts and draws his scimitar keeping his other hand on his mount's stirrups putting it between him and the wagon so if the wolves charge he can engage with his scimitar before they can reach Feona leaving exmaining the scene until after the situation is resolved.

Nils is at H-13 and Initiative roll: Roll(1d20)+3:6,+3 for a total of 9 can't seem to get Invisible Castle to work so using this one instead D&D Dice Roller

Luca looks to Berenthor, "It should only be a short trip, less than a day's travel with the horses. Arthfell forest is a dangerous place though, which is why I have asked you all to come along."

"I better take point then," Nils nods as he motions his horse ahead keeping a little distance ahead of the wagon(s) and at a safe speed for all concerned.

"Better keep your eyes peeled, unlike the deserts of my home they have much more to hide behind than just beneath the surface," Nils remarked to Feona.

Riding +7, Perception/Vision & Hearing +7, Survival +8 and those are base scores in case you want to make secret checks

"I hear they're only present where there's a great many trees and trees are something else only seen in oasis's in the desert though I never seen a desert squirrel so I assume they're only found in woods, forests and the like?" Nils ponders aloud.

The dwarf eyes the tall steed for a moment, and then "Can I get a boost?"

"We're all here, master Luca. And ready to keep you and your...lovely wife safe." She winks at Brigit and then turns to her companions.

Feona giggles at her new dwarven companion and says, "I'll give you a boost but you might not get far."
Then she turns to Nils and whispers loudly, "I'm not very good at riding a horse. Can I ride with you?"

"Sure, I'll just help our dwarven comrade to his mount first though," Nils smiles back.

While Feona and Nils are taking, they are approached by a nervous looking Varisian man. He pauses for a moment, wringing his hands and looking around the place. "You two certainly look like tough people. My name is Luca Hanzi, and I am looking for some help. I need some adventurers to watch over my family and I as we are travelling. I will pay you well, 50 gold each for the trip. I need you to take me to the Travelers Stop Inn." He looks around once more, then back to them, "And if you know of anyone else to bring along to help with the job, I would be willing to pay them as well."

Feona listens with wide-eyed attentiveness and then replies, "Our troupe was once attack by gnolls when I was a girl; I remember hiding in a wagon with my Ma and sibs while my Da helped drive them off. Background:

Born to the Longtoes clan in the chaotic River Kingdoms, her family were hard workers but just couldn’t earn enough to keep their large brood of children in food and clothing. So, they left their homeland, traveling south, and eventually joined up with a traveling band of Varisian nomads.
Feona grew up among the nomads, learning their ways and worshipping their gods, and her family felt “at home” for the first time she could remember. This way of life stirred her wandering and pilfering nature and at the behest of her friends and adventuresome cousins, the Roundbellys, Feona decided to trust in the guidance of Desna and so she struck out on her own, wandering from town to town, heading south toward the Inner Sea.
She traveled across Andoran, eventually reaching Augustana where she has been for about a week. She loves the port city, but her gold is running out, and she wishes to be on the move again.
From tavern talk, she has learned about the Arthfell forest north of town. (Invisible castle roll: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2018874/) The history of that forest sounds intriguing and so she decides to trek up there and see what else she can learn.

"Really? Never heard of the place. But then again I spent my reformative years travelling across a desert so you can't have everything I guess," Nils replied.

Don't have Knowledge/History only knows that Cheliax is a very bad place that made his parents seriously leery of magic, Andorra is full of forests, lakes, woods and lots of places for ambushes with the occasional place to get a drink... could be worse...

(Male Half Elf Ranger 1st)

Nils is of Chelish parentage, they left their homeland to start a new life away from the horrors of Chelish devil worship.
They were well off and at one point Nils was a lazy layabout, but that changed when he was found trying to help one of his younger sisters to study magic, his parents overreacted and he found himself apprenticed to a family friend training as a caravan guard.
He was left for dead after gnolls raided the caravan he was working with and he barely managed to survive the trek back to civilisation before he was outcasted over his miraculous survival.
Leaving Katapesh he managed to find work heading south eventually reaching Andorra where he met the others before they reached the starting place of this adventure...

Onyx, just a couple of questions: how often are you planning on posting and when do you plan on starting?

I'm trying to decide if I have time to play...would love to, but don't want to hold up a game if posting is too frequent for me.
Thanks.

I hope to start once I get enough people and they decide how they know each other, so maybe this weekend if I get enough people.

About how often I can post, well that depends. I am currently on spring break from school for this week, so I can post often at night, though I will have my three year old for the rest of the week so that limits time as well. Once school starts, I can maybe post at nights a couple times a week.

Have amended it accordingly.

Also, I forgot to mention, I would be willing to go Pathfinder with the 20 point buy system if others would prefer doing that, I am just not too familiar with it, though I have been playing it for a bit.

Also, sorry for being confusing about this. I am nervous and impatient. Heh.

I have this character which was prepared for a legacy of fire game but didn't get picked to play, would this be okay?

hopeless there are six campaign traits that have lengthy info on then. Essentially they revolve around;
1) seeking freedom from slavery
2) taking the first steps as a memmber of the Pathfinders
3) reclaiming your roots in a village
4) acting as a missionary
5) being a gnoll killer
6) finding a woman called Haleen

We can go into more detail when the players are decided.

When you're ready I'd like more detail regarding Haleen and the fifth one depending on what its actually about.

And as for traits do you mind if I choose one from the Pathfinder Companion: Elves of Golarion as there's a specific one called Starchild that grants a +4 trait bonus to survival checks to avoid getting lost that meshes in with Nils' background history?

Developed this character from another game, couldn't quite give up the half elf bit though.
