I love the mecanics of dwarf fortress for making an object. In this game, you can choose the base material (say steel). And you can do a *steel short sword* (* means very good facture) you can after encrusts it with gems... and now you have *steel short sword -encrusted with opals-* (the decorations have quality too, - is "fine")
After a while you decide to carve a write on the blade, so your sword becames *steel short sword -encrusted with opals- ad with a *fine incisions of a dwarf in a forge* and the write -I'm so proud of you, my son, and i give you this sword. Make this weapon the weapon of your first killing-.

And this can do (maybe without a 3D model for every option) a very unique sword. The price vary, too.

Now all your object can have a soul. enjoy

I hope not... for the beginnings halflings and the gnomes are good enough.

I can only imagine a power gamer who spend his time only doing it.

I can only speak for pfrpg and D&D 3.x. i don't have any experience in mmorpg's combat structure.

but seriously, i can force an enemy to fight only my super awesome barbarian dwarf? meh...

the first thing to kill is always the little guy with the dagger or the wand

Re: Perma-death, and starting a new character already "at level".

It would be really cool, IMO, if our accounts gained "levels" over time, just like our characters did, and that a sufficiently high level account could create new characters already leveled up wit a specific skill set.

yes! i want it! so if i want to change my PG, i don't have to wait 2.5 years before i can join my friends group!

Mamma mia. This topic has exploded, I'll put all night to read it.

I would vote for a greater choice of "archetypes". Pathfinder has many classes and after all options, each beautiful in some way, but in the end if a PG can deal damage AND have high defences, or HP, is a tank
if can deal damage but has low hp is a glass cannon, and so on.

the tabletop game itself has this definitions.

Keep in mind that anything a 'high-level thief' can do, about five thousand people will be able to do at roughly the same time that the first one can. Once they start learning how to break into the bank, there's going to be a lot of 'bank jobs' done at once. If the loot they get comes out of the stuff that other players have, that's a huge sudden effect on wealth balance, followed by a backlash effect where the ultra-secure bank vault stores mostly cabbage.

True. If can be done, it will be done. If only the highest level rogues can do it, in 2.5 years the game will be full of them. So, only a 20° rogue WITH an artifact key +999? someone will have that.

so 2.5 years from the beginning of the beta, a rogue has waited for his moment. When his moment came, the game's economy will fail. After 2 hours, an admin will turn the banks unbreakables. after this, however, the 95% of the population has lost their goods.
the 4% is the percentage of unlucky thieves.
and the 1% is the percentage of swift thieves wich has looted everything.

after 2.5 years, 2 hours and one minute, the game is abandoned by the 99% of the players.

and so the 80% that use standard races cannot have racials variation for their pg because the 20% (round up) can play a goblin? .

the logic would say so... if not, an entire country can teleport there for save a important city, or the capital, or a castle in a good position, and after 5 minutes be at their homes again

what if teleport allow only 25 lbs of material ?

ok, you can fast travel (just pay). You arrived here naked. your baggage will come with a normal wagon.

AND, if someone put a siege on a city, the fast travel for and from this city will be prevented

why not begin maybe with only the core races?

as far i can see in this game RP is going to be crucial, and so is the setting of commerce, searching materials and rivality between villages.

we have already warves, humans, half elves, helves, half orcs, gnomes and halflings. We don't need other rarer races...

and i'm hoping for villages made only by one race and some antipathy between dwarves and elves, Dwarves and half orcs, dwarves and halflings and so on. Poor dwarves... :D

when the "population cap" of the game rises, maybe other races can be added, but for now is better implement racial variations as seen on the "advanced player guide"

Ehi, dwarves with +2 racial against spells and dwarves with SR 5+DV should be rivals, too.

mmm
the best thing i can think now that it is not already said here is the construction of a code of conduit and some stratification in the social life of the village, not only of the guilds.

not only RP in game, but RP in forums where the player can comment the decisions made by a mayor, the problems of a new wave of *insert plague name here*.

little by little, player that shows ability in roleplaying gains a list of benefits like elected as mayor, as a militia capitain. In this way (and i'm not sure if pratical) some parts of the game can be unlocked only by spending a lot of time roleplaying their PG

mmm maybe crafting while off-line can be used for "spare time works" for the player.

i try to explain myself

I'm a metalsmith and i can forge weapons while online. ok, nothing strange. The game will decide the price and the time the item requires.

while i'm afk, i can designate a object i can do "in the spare time"
the construction is slower (like the pfrpg rules? i don't know but 1 day /1000 sp don't seems bad). I CANNOT returning and complete the object in the "faster" way, but only while offline and only if i've managed to return at my forge before quitting.

and only one object. if i manage to complete my sword, i have to designate another object manually.

if the game permits it, however, i can maybe build a set of 6 chairs while offline (not objects related with combat) or, like i've said in one another post, i can choose to do masonry or carpentry where the village need.

the crafting offline and the work as mason should be moderately convenient (like enough for eat something,,, or i don't know, maybe something else)

@Nihimon

Ok, but for 2.5 years someone can only hide himself from others? (if a 20/20 isn't a ranger/rogue of course)

ON the other hand i like the rules for duelling in the... ultimate magic? or combat...

is a interesting concept, and maybe you can choose a percentage of damage received

40% . ... not sure wich term is good here
0% ... well, self explanatory.

and when you are with this percentage of HP, you lose the duel. of course if after one is reduced at 20% and the enemy wizard *casually* casts a last fireball...

Maybe this is can be only a more legal way to deal with another member of the same guild, too.

if someone can read this, can he translated it for the others?

it's not what i meant.

i'm not saying it matter if i am 21° or 49°, the damage i can deal is not greater than a 20°.

BUT i can kill a 10° easily, his HP are half of mine (they've stopped augmenting at 20°)

ok, after 1.25 years he can be 20°, but before that for me is the elemental plane of ice cream

2.5 years?

29 years? sound like a challenge.

Challenge accepted.

But I think the game will end BEFORE 29 years (if not, good) :D

one question: if you reach the twentieth level after so much time (i don't know how this work in other sandbox games) this means that a 20° can one-shot a newbie for 2.5 years, and only stop to do it when him too reach the 20°?

ok, welcome vow of poverty.

and make the thief a target in the minimap for one or two day

ok, power attack plus +10d6 sneak plus rage plus TRUE STRIKE plus shivering palm is of course banned.

I agree with the unstacking thing

I can see that you don't like a sneak attack with a great axe :P
I don't know about how the damage system works, but when you can inflict 10d6 sneak damage, if a weapon does 1d6 (short sword) or 1d12 (greataxe) i can't see big differences. the short sword can be handled with two hands too...

and power attack in pathfinder is already nerfed enough... it's like a status now

Having a long list of traps to choose should help... maybe customizable.

like a minigame, or a oblivion-like block.

And a difference between a cheaper traps and a costly traps should be the time needed to disarm them...

some traps maybe are so simple to build that everyone could build one of them, like a pit.

I want a sexy underwear for my male dwarf. POWER WORD BLIND and FINGHER OF DEATH at will. oh yeah...

and, like in the table game, after the first 20 levels, no more advancing in BaB and saves. and no epic bonuses.

I have only done epic (and even played a god) in 3.5 but epic bab and such increases as implied by the first 20 lvls; full bab equals lvl, cleric bab equals 3/4 lvl, etc.

@Sepherum, the time it takes to gain a level is based on TOTAL lvl regardless of what those levels were. It would take just as long to become 4mnk/2sorc as it would take to get to 6mnk.

I'm pretty sure that the BaB after the first 20 levels stops augmenting.

Otherwise a 21° fighter would gain the 5th attack. And so is not, because the fifth attack is useless.

well... if someone does it, i'm expecting someone (probably me) to burn their house down. or a ban. burning something is always awesome.

The only think that I hope is a dress that shows the damage it has. and the dirt, blood and glory that the suit has gained.

well... maybe a single .bmp file that represents a guild's tatoo is not a problem. neither are thousands of them...

In my opinion the ruler of a settlement (king, sheriff, duke, do not care here) should propose a list of work that are necessary for the well ongoing (not sure if this word is correct, sorry) of the village.

"Today Lord Pingu said that we need 48 mason, 13 carpenteers and 2 engraver for the construction of the armory."
"requirement: Mason= Strenght 12 or better (low level work). Carpenteer... etc etc
we'll pay 15 GP

or "need 78 farmers for today maintenance"
we'll pay 10 gp

if no one work as mason, however the construction is not halted (some png can work here, maybe slower)

maybe rather than "no sneak in full plate armor", a "max bonus in sneak check with full plate armor" is preferable...

just like the max dex bonus... (and the max dex bonus is a penality for sneaking already)

in a sandbox game everyone should be able to sneaking. The fact that my cloisted cleric is awfully incapable to sneak behind even a drunk ogre is another story

Mmm. a metalsmith should be a central person in the life of a village made of adventurers.
Complete restoring my 95% damaged sword should be a expensive act (95% the price of a new sword, but in this way i can mantain a loved object, or a particular important symbol) and only with a smith with the ability to effectively REMAKING the same weapon.
Any other expedient should be temporary

Hoping however for a playable bardarian...

why "intelligent magic items with requests" make me think about nobles in dwarf fortress?

"I want a bone elf breastplate"
"we cannot do it! it's impossible!"
"Impossible is not the answer. well, seems that now i have to f**k your fortress up"

Very Fun. Also, True story.

However, The possibility to utilize a lesser magic item to recharge a +5 vorpal longsword is not advisable (i remember something like this in Neverwinter nights) But maybe someone can utilize a "magic repair kit" that permits some kind of temporary hit points, or a magic powder which augments the "broken limit condition" of a nearly broken spear at a 120% damage for a little time... like a diehard feat for weapons

Maybe the long term character persistance can be not with the player model, but only like a "status"

maybe i can explain better. I've logged out, but, like forlarren said, i can offer my PG as a mason.

if someone check a construction, he will see "neothanos, someone else and someone else too are working here as masons"

and, can someone turn a broken sword in a bar of metal and maybe after forge a new sword with it?

I can see, after a big fight, jackals everywere looting shield, swords and crafts. but... ehi, steel is steel!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

mmm maybe someone can increase the durability of two identical weapons (but damaged) "merging" them in one with a... -10% complessive damage?

an example, I have two +2short sword. one with 75% damege and one with 90% damage. I want to go on a journey, but i do not want to break one of them in a... bad moment.

I merge the magic in them (in a forge, maybe?).

Now I have a 55% damaged +2short sword, and a broken short sword.

in this way, the objects WILL renew themselves, but we'll not have to carry five 98% damaged weapons

(yay firt post, also, good work! and sorry for my english)
