Nayr took in all the information Field Marshal gave him and the others on Trinia and the current situation. So they had to go and escort her back to Kroft and the guard, also under their protection from mobs and the like. It sounded like a dangerous task to Nayr. The mobs would be trouble enough, but the fact that she could be holed up with a lover when they tried to escort her away? Who knows what a person in that scenario would do. Nayr nodded and smiled at Zalen as he open the door and the others filed out, stopping at a reasonable distance and turning around to face the group. Stroking his chin, Nayr looked around at the others and waited for someone to speak, to take control of the new mission thrust upon them. Apparently they had all done some adventuring while he had been at the temple, so Nayr just waited for someone to take the reigns. Mmm I found it! By clicking the link, I suppose I'm morbidly lazy. ;D Should the person who is visiting Kroft w/ Nayr post first? And who wants to do the deed? I think I'll hold off on a post before I know who's with Nayr and Kroft if that's alright. He's not one to jump at introducing himself first anyways. =] I'm here! I swear! XD My mom's having some health issues and its affecting my posting on the boards. It shouldn't be much of a problem after she has surgery, so my routine should return to normal in a day or two. Sorry, I had posted a message on this subject earlier, but apparently the paizo board was a bit hungry... D: Nayr's eyes widened at the revelation that the dwarf was actually a woman. A woman that his friends apparently knew quite well. He could only weakly watch as the dwarf performed a series of intricate twists and turns that resulted in the chest popping open. The cleric's head hurt just thinking about what the combination must've been. Nayr watched as she placed what seemed to be six pouches out in front of him and the others. He guessed there were coins in the small sacks due to the sound they made when Halvarra tossed them onto the table. Not really knowing the 'woman' and still feeling quite woozy, Nayr chose to stay silent until the rest of the party divied up the gold. At the sparkling transformation, the cleric of Shelyn's mouth dropped open in surprise. Who knew such a beautiful woman was concealed underneath the gruff exterior of the dwarf. I need to look into the specifics of that spell... Nayr looked to Ayedah, confusion plainly written across his features. "Who is this Halverra? ...and why must we deliver this box to her?" His eyes scanned over the object, but he couldn't quite see the box through the swirling colors shifting across its surface. Even through his muddled mind, Nayr spoke up about the girls. "Perhaps we can bring them to Shelyn's temple... they will be healed, and if money is needed, I can provide it." He took a stumbling step backwards but righted himself before he could fall down. Nayr knew exactlyhow the girls were feeling, and he guessed they wanted to be rid of the drug just as much as he did. Of course, only if they could even think as clearly as he could. "I... I don't know if this will help Ayedah, but I'm willing to try." Nayr closes his eyes and grasps the silver bird on the chain around his neck. Channeling his goddess's energy wasn't too difficult, but the cleric's main worry was if it was enough to counteract the poison as well. He doubted it, but perhaps it could help with the pair's minor wounds. And his. Closing his eyes and chanting a short prayer, Nayr's holy symbol begins to glow. As the luminescence reaches its peak, it releases as a soft blue wave of energy that washes over everyone in the room. After he heals the two woman, Nayr turns to Ayedah. "As you can see, I'm not fully fitted for exploring this place. I'm going to go look for my things... perhaps they are somewhere close." Waiting for her response, the cleric leaves the drug-filled space and into the hallway. As he was debating on whether to go with Zalen and the others or try and look for his things in the room where Ayedah and Krek burst in from, a wave of dizziness permeates his mind once again. Stumbling, he struggles to keep upright and moves into the room with the overturned table, his senses befuddled and dulled. But a fall to the floor can wake anyone up, and the shock pulls Nayr out of his stupor. Before him on the ground is a steel glaive with a rose carved into the blade, an oak longbow, a shirt made of interlocking metal links, and a shiny looking breastplate. Nayr can't help but weakly smile to himself. At least the drug had been good for one thing, helping him find his gear. Nayr's mind swam in confusion, and he barely noticed when Krek left him to go check out what Ayedah had found. Managing to stand up, the cleric followed the half orc and the others into the enclosed area. The sight that met him hit Nayr hard, even in his drugged state. "Those poor girls..." With a quick look downward and then at the women once again, it wasn't hard to discern that their marks are similar to his. When Zalen confronts him about the man, he only shakes his head. "No, I don't know him... I haven't been out of that cell until now." In response to Ayedah's declaration, Nayr nodded. "Yes. We musn't leave these two here." Hoping Krek and Alandra wouldn't mind, Nayr slowly approached the girls and began to try and examine their wounds. "There now, it's alright. You're safe, I won't hurt you..." The impact of breaking down the door and crashing into the floor knocked the wind out of Nayr's lungs, also causing a new batch of nauseating colors to leap and twirl across his vision. He lay on the floor, panting, futiley trying to regain his breath when the cleric realized... he was free! Before he had a chance to pull himself to his feet though, the door a short ways down the hallway in front of him burst open. And in barreled a Shoanti woman with a large hammer, and a big half-orc with a rusty sword... it couldn't be! But it could. Zalen had rushed in past Ayedah and Krek, extending a hand out to the cleric and asking him several questions about what had happened and his health. Nayr was inclined to answer but only listened while Zalen talked to Ayedah, sending her off into the ship to make sure they were alone. The priest gave a weak smile as Ayedah passed, glad to be in the company of friends once again. "In answer to your questions Zalen, I-" Nayr gasped and clutched his left arm once again as the pain escalated and then deflated. "I've been poisoned I think. Or drugged. One or the other. I was out looking for Eliza, and then..." The cleric's head turned towards his holding cell. "I was hit on the back of the head." Nayr winced at the memory. "I woke up in there with all my equipment gone and a terrible pain in my left arm." Nayr once more had to stop speaking, as the hurt was on the rise again. DM:
It hadn't worked. Sure, the door seemed to have splintered a bit more, but overall he hadn't been able to break through. He began to pant, the previous assault on the door having been more taxing than he thought. I'm going to die here...
Shaking his head, Nayr strengthened his resolve. No. I still need to find Loghan's killer. I can't fade away now, not just yet. A pain in his arm spiked once more, eliciting a pained grunt from his lips. Various colors danced through his vision, impairing his sight. Just a little longer... This time going for a more direct approach, Nayr turned so his right shoulder was facing the door, and his painful left arm towards the wall on the opposite side of the room. With a desperate yell, the cleric smashed into the door once more, slamming his entire body into the attack. Perception Check - 9
Didn't make the listen check, but wow, a nat 20 on the strength check was a piece of luck. :D
DM:
Nayr's nose wrinkled up at the smell of whatever had been administered into his body. The cleric didn't exactly know what the substance was, but he knew he had to get out of here. It wouldn't do to waste away in this wet room as the poison ravaged his body. Even if there were guards posted outside his door, hopefully he'd have the element of surprise and be able to escape. Then he could try and find someone who could aid him.
Standing up, Nayr cradled his left arm with his right, and raised his right leg towards the door. For a moment his vision swam with indescribable colors, but they faded into recession after a few moments. He had to hurry. Nayr gathered all his strength, muttered a quick prayer to Shelyn, and bashed the door with the heel of his foot, attempting to knock the loosened wooden barrier down. Unfortunately, the only skills I have are Heal and Knowledge (Religion), and I'm almost positive that Knowledge checks can't be done untrained. D:
DM:
The harder Nayr pounded on the door, the more futile his actions seemed to be. No one was answering, and the painful and irritating sensation in his arm seems only to get worse. His vision began to take on a tint of blue, then yellow, and then purple. The cleric didn't have to be an alchemist to know that he had been poisoned or drugged somehow. Perhaps when he was knocked out... Nayr stopped bashing on the wooden portal with his hands. He knew from his experience as a healer that moving around when poisoned only helped the substance to spread throughout the body. Sitting down on the floor, he ran his uninjured arm over the burning area on his other appendage. He hissed as a stab of pain jolted through his muscles. If only I had some light in here... His eyes widening in revelation, Nayr grasped his holy symbol strung on a chain around his neck. "Beautiful Shelyn, light up this foul place with your graceful beauty." The cleric's soft spoken words produced the effect he desired, as the small silver bird began to glow with a gentle perwinkle-hued light. Now that he was able to see clearly, Nayr took a closer look at his arm. The B Guy - to create a character you have to create an alias from your My Account page, then post the info on there. For example, I'm posting from one of my characters in another PbP on this site. After finishing up there, just post here in that character and I'll be able to look up your stats and help you out. Good to see you're still around as well TN. Hopefully some of those plans still are usuable even though Nayr took a break for a more than a few months, hehe. ;D Yep, check the spoiler tags above if you wish to see his current situation, writing up a post in a few moments to re-enter the cleric back into the thread. Kind of. :P And man, reading over a thousand posts was much more difficult than I first thought it would be. Hahaha, but really, I have to congratulate all of you on your roleplaying and inventiveness, if this was a published novel, I would have driven out to the store and purchased it already. It was a relaxing and adventure filled day in front of the screen for me, thanks for that. =] And Val, that picture of Ayedah is jaw-dropping! The style of the earthbreaker looks pretty darn cool. DM:
Darkness. That was all that existed, nothing more.
And then, slowly, Nayr felt himself surfacing, his eyes opening a just a sliver. But there was only more darkness. Nayr's head was spinning, and he didn't have to make physical contact to feel the throbbing bump on the back of his skull. Weakly, he reached around in the black and touched with what felt like a wall. A wet one at that, slimy and slightly spongy in texture. Where in Shelyn's good graces am I? As more of his senses came back into focus, the first Nayr noticed was a scalding pain in his left arm. It felt very much like a small dagger was twisting into his flesh, a sensation that left him wincing in pain. An odd, and somewhat bitter tasting flavour lingered in his mouth, not to mention the unmistakable smell of saltwater and brine that permeated the air around him. After a few more moments of recovery, Nayr struggled to his feet, running his hands along the moist wall. He could feel the outline of a door, and with a quick but dizzy glance downwards, he observed that a sliver of light shone through underneath the barricade. With this information, Nayr began to pound on the wooden door, cringing at the waves of pain that emanated from his arm with each blow. “Hey! Is anybody out there?!” Ah, yeah I didn't realize he gets an extra +1 HP every level in addition to the +3 at level 1 for the Toughness feat. And then there was the favored class bonus to the HP and skill points, thanks for pointing those out Zalen! And the cleric domain spells are accounted for in his sheet, do you mean the domain bonus ability type thing? I thought they decided to take those back out. I only have the beta rulebook though, so maybe that's the reason. XP Also, I'm reading the thread and getting caught up as we speak! Alright, leveled him up to three, and bought him some armor. Figured he could while he was away doing whatever he was doing. I'm up for figuring out a way to write him in anytime, so just say the word Wrath and we can devise a plan or something of the sort. And thanks so much for this, I really appreciate it. =] Hey Zalen! Good to see you again too, and actually I'd love to rejoin now that school is over and summer is officially in session. Though... there are a number of problems including level differences, where he was all this time, etc, etc. But heck, if Wrath and me came up some solutions to the above problems, I'd be a very happy man. Up to you Wrath and the other players though, and in either case, again, keep up the good work you guys! And hello to TN if he's still around. :D Hey all, I just wanted to pop in and say great job on keeping this campaign going, school took an unexpected turn for the worse and I had to drop out early on. Glad things have been going well, I've read the last few pages and things look intense! Keep up the good work, I'll be watching this campaign closely as it advances in the future. =] Nayr's heart jumped at the sound of the high-pitched giggling, and after just one look at the maniacal half-orc, the cleric flattened himself across the wall. They were still going for stealth here, and it wouldn't do for the enemy to attack him now. The acolyte watched as Alandra seemed to cast a spell on the foe, and Ayedah began to talk with him. Probably to try and talk him out of hurting the kid... Nayr did nothing more, trying to be as quiet as possible and waiting out until the action began. Nayr's nose crumpled at the unpleasant scent of old and rotting fish, a smell he was not too fond of. The cleric patiently waited as the scouting team left, looked around, and came back to report. Letting Alandra and Ayedah pass, the acolyte of the Eternal Rose walked in behind the two ladies, attempting to be as quiet as he could possibly be. Stealth (17-2+1)=16
Ayedah wrote: "I am sorry to ask this of you. I know few of your names and we are strangers to each other. I know all of you wish to see Lamm dead tonight for your own reasons. I do as well and I swear I will see this through with you. He took two people dear to me. I've only found one of them just to lose him again, but I promised him I would find hi...our sister. The only clue I have is that she was taken from her brother's side by Lamm and never seen again. I know it is foolish to hope, but I would have words with Lamm before sending him on his way." Two people close to her? The Shoanti's suffering was twofold when compared to the cleric's. "I... I know if I had the chance to find Loghan once more, I would take it. And if I did have the opportunity, I would hope that you all would give me a chance to speak to Gaedren Lamm. I won't take that chance from you. But... I cannot promise anything past that point." Turning to the younger wizard, Nayr peered at the wearied map. "Great, show us the way." Not knowing what to expect from the mysterious fortune teller, Nayr impatiently waited until Zellara focused her attention on him. Zellara wrote: "Futility. In the dark times, in the Avalance, you may well turn out to push the city further off the Edge of Anarchy. Your fate aligns well with this, so beware. You might cause damage that can not be repaired." The cleric's heart leapt into his throat at the dark prediction. Might push the city off the Edge of Anarchy? Nayr had no idea what that meant, but the fact that he himself could indanger Korvosa, the city he grew up in, was shocking. Stunned, the acolyte tried to listen to the other readings but found he couldn't through his confusion. Nayr only snapped back when Zellara's finger pointed towards him again, heralding yet another prediction of his fate. Zellara wrote: "You will see a seeker of beauty lost. Just as the lights may be enticing, they nevertheless trap you in the mire. One such Light-seeker, maybe even you yourself, will be lost in the mire, and in struggling only slightly prolong the inevitable." A seeker of beauty lost? And losing himself in mire... More foreboding omens. Nayr didn't know what it meant, but the fact that he was receiving such grim warnings didn't lift his spirits much. Pushing aside his predictions to a place in his mind where he could recollect when needed, Nayr realized Zellara was finished and wanted them on their way. Vocalizing his agreement with the others, Nayr began to walk out the door. "It's time for Gaedren to pay." Nodding vigorously, Nayr agrees with the previous four members of the small group. "Slay Gaedren? I think everyone else that is standing here has that very thought dancing through their minds. I swear upon my goddess, Shelyn the Eternal Rose, that I will aid in bringing justice upon this man." The acolyte's seemingly happy demeanor from before is replaced by a determined, almost intense look shown plainly across his features. Ayedah wrote: "Who is this person that has called us all together? Does anyone know of her, this Zellara?" Knowledge (Local) 1d20=10 The cleric of Shelyn spoke up, adding what he knew about the fortune teller to the conversation. "From what I've heard of her, Zellara is a local fortune teller. She's pretty well known for her card readings and such. I'm afraid I don't know much more, but I'm sure we'll find out soon," Nayr finished with a hopeful smile, looking to the doorway. Nayr watched with growing curiosity as the room quickly began to fill up with a variety of people. The fact that a dwarf, two shoanti, a halfling, and a very outspoken young man all had grudges against Lamm somewhat surprised the cleric. Apparantly, Gaedren had wronged a great many, an idea that Nayr quickly took to. The more the merrier. Watching silently and listening to the young man's lengthy introduction of himself, Nayr couldn't help but smile. At least one of them was in good spirits this evening. Zalen Candorian wrote:
Nayr waited until Zalen was done chattering with Ayedah, and held out a hand with a friendly smile. "Nayr Goldwyn, an acolyte of the Eternal Rose. Nice to meet you." Then while looking about the room, "And you all as well." Gern Hammerfold wrote:
And with that, the gruff dwarf just retreated back to his spot in the shadows. Nayr hadn't thought of that, the fact that perhaps these people were foes. His hands drifted to his hips, ready to grab his glaive at the closest sign of trouble. A movement behind him caused the cleric to whirl around in surprise, perhaps there was a new arrival. Sure enough, a cloaked figure entered the room, the fabric of the shawl a dark shade of brown. One hand moved underneath the cloak to grasp some unseen item, and Nayr tensed up in anticipation of an attack. But it seemed as though the figure wasn't here to cause trouble, the girl, discernible from her voice, appeared to be here on account of the strange message as well. Forgetting about the other in the corner for the moment, Nayr put on a broad smile and held up his hands. "Well, I'm not here to kill you, it appears we've been summoned here for the same reason. Gaedren Lamm." Nayr poked his head into the room before walking past the threshold, taking in his surroundings. As the pleasant smelling smoke wafted through the air, the cleric gave a small smile. It sure didn't look like this was a trap of any sort, the room seemed homely at the very least. Long strips of light blue silk interwove with Nayr's newly crafted chainshirt armor, given to him by his father Nargel. Around his waist was a light red sash, made of silk as well, with one end trailing down his right hip. At the end of the cloth was a stitched symbol of Shelyn, a small bird with a lengthy, multi-colored tail. On his back were three items strapped into place, a tall glaive, a wooden longbow, and a quiver of arrows. Looking around for the writer of the cryptic message, Nayr noticed a small note on the table in front of him. Walking over, the acolyte picked up the piece of parchment and read the words. Apparently, others were contacted according to the opening, 'Dear Friends.' Nayr approved, the more enemies Gaedren Lamm possessed the better. Letting his gaze wander around the room once more, the young man was startled to see another in the corner of the chamber, mostly hidden by shadows. The other figure was short of stature, and seemed to be armored as well. Wary of possible dangers, Nayr spoke out quietly. "Hello, are you the one who sent for me and the others to come to this place?" GM TN

Question!
If we don't have ranks in a skill that our background trait gives bonuses in, do we still list it under our skill section? For example, Nayr gets a +1 Cha bonus to Intimitdate, and +2 because of his trait. ...but he never had any ranks in it to begin with, so does he get a free +1 rank in it to start it off before the bonuses, or does he just end up with +3 total? Just wanted some clarification, thanks~ I'm pretty sure I get +2 to intimidate from my background trait, right? If not, I'll happily change it. And to Zalen's comment above, I completely agree with you, I like how the clerics aren't all worshipping typical 'holy smiting' gods such as Iomedae and Saerenae, and that the other characters have well-written and interesting backstories too. Pretty excited here as well. :D |
