Background:
Naiethua's parents lead an elven warband in the Sura-Khiri near the Bazareene town of Khiras. They were killed repulsing a Yuan-Ti raid on the night of Naiethua's twentieth birthday. Naiethua's only memories of that night are of her grandfather's iron hand restraining her from running into the fray and her older brother cowering behind their grandfather.
After her parents' death, Naiethua was raised by her grandfather Namahlon who trained her in the mystic ways of the druids. The girl took to the old man's esoteric teachings like a bird takes to the air. Meanwhile, her brother Ridazair took his place as a leader of the warband. Ridazair gained a reputation for orchestrating deadly guerilla raids on human encampments in the Forest Home.
Naiethua was at her grandfather's side when he died two years ago. The last words he said to the girl were, "I'll miss you, little eagle. I always thought it was a shame that your brother was born first because you're a much braver person than he'll ever be. Ridazair always attacks the humans who forsake the safety of their stone walls when our real foes are the scaled obscenities because he fears the Yuan-Ti. Be brave, Naiethua and remember I'll be waiting in the Spirit Wood."
Since Namahlon's death, Naiethua joined Ridazair as he led the warband on several scouts and raids. The young druid has proven to be a ferocious, if unorthodox, warrior. Ridazair recently put her in command of a raid against a Bazareene logging camp. The raid was a complete success with the humans routed, their camp destroyed, and no elves killed. But when Naieutha came back, all Ridazair did was complain about her letting humans flee the battlefield. Telling him that the human survivors were all wounded, noncombatants, or children only seemed to fuel his anger.
Last month, Ridazair took off on his own without telling Naieutha, or anyone else, where he was going or when he'd be back. He swaggered back two weeks later loudly proclaiming that he'd found a way to keep the humans out of the Sura-Khiri for good. A few days later, Naieutha was traveling to a parley in Khira with her brother and a score of the warband's finest soldiers.
On the night of their arrival, the elves were treated to a lavish banquet. Naieutha thought the human food was oddly flavored and the wine was unpleasantly strong, but Ridazair kept serving her more and insisting she finish it so their hosts wouldn't be offended. "Human food always tastes strange," Ridazair said trying to reassure his sister. That's when Naieutha realized that something was amiss, how could Ridazair possibly know what human food "always" tastes like? But it was too late. She was unable to act before the herbs Ridazair and his new human friends had put in her food and drink took effect and she lost consciousness.
Naieutha recovered her senses days later somewhere in Hazuk.
