I think we should put this on pause for the christmas days, so I will not be reading or posting for a few days. Family and all...

Thessilin is not evil

Thessilin looks very worried as you tell her the story of the combat with the gnomes. I don't know if its contagious.... I don't........ We need more information..... You just reminded me Triblin, we may have a person who can help us. Out in the forest there is an old gnome, went through the bleaching a long while ago and now lives with his hound out in the forest. He may be able to help, he has always kept an eye on the goings on around the forest. I tried sending a couple of the children to check on him, and I haven't heard from them. I sent them about a day ago, if you guys could check on the children that I sent out and perhaps talk with the gnome, we could get them back to their families safely and maybe get some more information on what is ailing the land. Also, just leave the woodcutters with me, I will see if our local wizard can do anything to help them.

You take the group back by the same route. You didn't see anything interesting on your way back.

As you enter the inn (carrying the two gnome's bodies). Thessilin jumps out of her chair in the inn and hobbles toward the party. What happened, whats the news.

Sorry for taking so long to post again. I will move on to the inn tomorrow, but incase anyone wants to do any last minute things you have a little while to post.

So you tie up the gnomes, and Rosa you don't notice anything new.

I'll do you guys a favor, there is not a whole lot more there.

What is that a roll for?

You see nothing

2-3 in the afternoon

No

The house that you enter has 3 rooms. The first room looks like a meeting area, in here are tables and chairs. In the second room is the gnomes sleeping quarters. In here is a small cabinet and 3 beds. The main thing that you notice about these 2 rooms is that they seem un-used. The beds and tables have collected a layer of dust everywhere. The third room is a kitchen and food storage area, or was. The only reason you can deduce its old use is that cabinets and silverware are in the room. All the food seems to have vanished from the kitchen. In its place the walls of the kitchen have been covered in old blood. It looks as though someone has taken gallons of blood and covered the walls in it.

Glyndon, you find a banknote on the cabinet in the bedroom. It is a 400 gold banknote (likely the woodcutters savings).

The woodpile, seems to be old. It looks like no work has been done on it in quite a while.

The only thing odd that you find in the shack is the fact that the hatchets seem to have not been used in a while.

Baltazar, Porter, Glyndon, and Triblin... the shack that you enter seems to be a woodcutting shack. In it are many saws and handaxes. Nothing of importance seems to be in here.

Rosa:
You detect magic but as much as you know magic is there, the spell that is cast upon them is something you cannot understand. It does not follow the same rules as magic that you have seen cast before.

Gnomes are still evil, and you see nothing Glyndon.

You see nothing Triblin, and Glyndon, you are now on a roof.

You manage to stop its bleeding, and you have no clue what happened to it.

2 of the gnomes are unconscious and bleeding out, if you want to talk with them then your going to have to stop their bleeding.

Zaharin will shoot his bow.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d8 ⇒ 8

Recap: Glyndon will step up and try to backstab, and miss. Baltazar will prove that big fighters are not to be ignored and will slash down at the back of the blood gnome, dealing a devastating amount, even through the shield. Rosa and Triblin miss. Porter reloads his gun, and just before the gnome prepares to lash out at Rosa again (more than likely for the kill), Zaharin will release an arrow into the throat of the gnome, breaking through the shield and killing him.

The gnome falls, and the only sounds are now the coughing of blood from the 2 unconscious enemies.

Up to you what you guys want to do now, end of initiatives

It seems as though we have lost Woodsman as well. With 3 we definitely can't do it. I think its time to just shut this down, so sorry guys. Probably my fault for not posting enough during my holiday.

All good

Luckily, you don't have the most complicated turns.

I will have Zaharin and Porter just take shots from their bow and gun, respectively.

Porter, musket attack. Point Blank range. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 81d12 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Zaharin, bow shot. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d8 ⇒ 3

Sorry guys, guess you do better when I don't role for you.

Recap: After the gnome ruined Triblin, Glyndon steps up and tries to trip the remaining gnome; which he fails at. Baltazar will then miss, followed by Rosa healing everyone for 5 (including the gnome). Then both Porter and Zaharin miss. Finally Triblin, after waiting around to give his comrades the best bonus he can, runs away to lick his wounds.

Wow, that entire round and all that happened was you healed the enemy. What can you say, bad rolls.

Monsters: The gnome, looking invigorated by his newfound strength, will 5 foot step away from Baltazar and look to rip the angel women apart.

1. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 2. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
So thats 4 to you Rosa.

It seems we have lost Gordak as well... Do you guys want to continue with only four players? I could try and cut down the monsters so it may work, but I am not sure. It's getting to the point that nothing is happening and I need to either just continue on without or close everything down. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Rosa:
You know nothing

Recap: Glyndon will pull out his spiked chain, flank and attack; but miss. Baltazar will then step up and smash the undead that came to attack him after bloodying Glyndon. With the power of Iomedae he cuts down into the head of the creature, killing it outright. Rosa healed up Baltazar. Triblin smashes his gnome adversary in the head, as his flail connects he notices that whatever shield seems to have been protecting the gnome is smashed by your flail. Stripe will then bite, but the shield will block some of his damage. However the last bite seems to finish off the gnome, leaving him to fall to the ground bleeding profusely and knocked out. Porter then sent a bullet whizzing just over the head of the remaining gnome. Lastly, Zaharin sends another arrow into a gnome, however the shield shrugs it off.

Monsters: The remaining gnome then licks his bloody wound and laughs madly. He seems completely unfazed by the defeat of his two fellows. Seeing Triblin coming up he spins and claws at the now present halfling.

1. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Confirm 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 2. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 So take 7 Triblin

Oh wow sorry, did not see the stealth roll. My bad, don't worry, they will kill the paladin before you though to make up for it.

You didn't step out of the cover of the forest Glyndon. They just came in for you.

Recap: Bursting out of their hiding places the insane gnomes rush toward the party. As the head gnome rushes forward Zaharin who had been prepared for an ambush looses an arrow into the chest of the blood covered gnome leading the charge. The leading gnome, now with an arrow sticking out of his chest, raked Glyndon leaving him a bloody mess. Glyndon, now in a lot of trouble stepped back and shot an arrow toward the head of the lead gnome. The arrow collided but seemed to be unable to effect the skin of this creature. Baltazar then charges in and does nothing.... Rosa then fired off her arrow but was also unable to pierce through whatever defence was blocking damage to these creatures. Although Triblin was not able to connect with his flail, Stripe jumped forward and snapped at one of the gnomes, tearing a large chunk of skin off. (Not a critical though, sorry) Although perhaps not quite the quickest to react Porter leveled his musket and hit home as his bullet finally punctured through the defenses of the gnome that had just bloodied his friend. Had Porter shoot the one that Stripe bit . Finally, seeing the situation going bad very quickly Zaharin slung one of his bombs into the group 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 burning the gnomes quite a little.

Monsters Action, Round 2: The gnome that wrecked Glyndon will 5 foot step and full attack Baltazar.
1.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 2.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Lucky
The gnome that Baltazar so dramatically missed will now return and attack him.
1.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 201d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 2. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Not so lucky, there is 8 for you Balt
The gnome that Stripe so stole skin from will 5 foot step and try to return the favor to Triblin.
1.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 2. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 Confirm? 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 X2 so 4 damage.

So overall I believe that is 8 damage to Baltazar and 4 damage to Triblin

sure

Ok all good, still need initiative and spot placement for Rowan, Gordak, and Quentin before we move on.

I just realized some people may not know how PbP runs combat. You don't wait for the person in front on the initiative order to post their action. You should just post your action and then I will compile it at the end before the monsters next move. If it turns out a monster is already dead before you swung at it, that is where I will just have you do a small change to do the same action against a different monster.

The two gnomes (actually still living, so you know) that are farthest away rush toward the party. The one that Zaharin shot at takes an arrow to the chest but almost seems to shrug part of the blow off, as though some barrier prevents the damage. He rushes up next to the closest target and lashes out with his bone claw.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 221d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

That goes to Glyndon.

Btw guys so you know, the forest counts as difficult terrain to move through. Also if you swing from it you suffer a -2 to your attack and if you defend from it you gain a +2 to your AC. (He still hit you though, Glyndon)

So the list right now is for initiative is right now: 1st-Monsters, 2nd-Glyndon, 3rd- Baltazar, 4th-Rosa, 5th-Triblin, 6th-Porter. (Also I am assuming Zaharin has a readied action on if the shapes move? If so that would mean he would pop in at 2nd.)

As the party enters out into the glade 3 shapes emerge from the sides of the trees and begin to move toward the party. You first notice them as gnomes, more than likely the ones that you were told to search for. There is something obviously wrong with them though; they have undergone a gruesome transformation from Gnome to, something else..... The gnomes bodies are now hunchbacked and almost ape-like in walking style. They are moving a large long gait, their arms hanging down to the ground and helping them move. Their bodies have gotten disgustingly thin, leaving their rib-cage obvious clear and has made their spine protrude from their back making them look more skeleton than living. The gnomes hands have had the bone in the fingers extend, breaking out of the skin and leaving long, white, and sharp bones protruding from each finger; It almost looks as though they have gained claws made out of their own bone. Adding to their ghoul-like appearance is the covering of their body in dry blood and gore. Making no sign of recognition of friendly people they rush toward the party screaming a raspy scream while raising their claw-like hands.
Ok, try to get one combat action in a day please. So I guess it's to you Zaharin. Also Baltazar, these are evil.

Sorry, this two party thing is messing me up. (I also just went a little stupid).

Here is group 2's version

...... I am an idiot

Give me a second.

Ok, I know google docs is not going to do very well for combat but I may be able to get a different system soon.

Everyone give me an initiative check.

Perception 1+:
You come to a clearing with many chopped down trees. A large pile of wood and a shack sits in-front of a small wooden house. There seems to be no action going on in the clearing.

Perception 22+:
You see 3 small shapes hidden in the woods. 1 behind the wood-pile, 1 behind the shack, and the a final one at the south side of the main house.

Go ahead and place yourselves where I have outlined.

Here is the map

Here is the map

The party starts out of Dwellhold just after a quick conversation and some rest. You make quick work passing over the plane that separates the valley that the town is in and the large and ever ominous forest. Following the quick instructions that were written down on your map, you move through woods of tall pine and fir trees. As you come closer to the spot marked on your map you see that the dirt path you were following into the forest seems to have divergent trails that lead to small houses. When the sign for the woodcutters camp finally comes into view there is no sight of the edge of the forest and you are surrounded in the darkness of the over hanging trees. Give me a PERCEPTION CHECK. Also, I want to do a round of combat a day; so when you eventually do hit combat I need to know if it is alright for me to control your character and give it a basic action, if you don't post.

Thessilin smiles, Oh don't be so hard on old Vagadir here. He is actually one of the only Ulfen men in town that is equal in treatment of humans and gnomes, the rest don't take kindly to me and my kin. I would love to send you to one of my rangers but right now they are all watching the Uthen Nggold Hills. When you return from the woodcutters encampment and they return from watch I would be glad to show you to them.

Unless anything more happens in the tavern I will be moving you guys on to the woodcutters on Thursday. Also, since you healed Thessilin everyone can award themselves a whopping 50 experience for being such a nice group of people. (Before someone asks, this will be running on FAST as slogging through lots of encounters on a PbP system takes way to long)

The Bartender will hand Glyndon 3 large mugs of a dark brew and run into the back room and return with a bowl of stew that has pieces of what looks like sheep in it. Here you go good maser.

Thessilin turns to Baltazar and looks ecstatic at his offer. Yes please, we don't have a cleric in this town and none of our mages are skilled in healing. It would be wonderful if you could hurry up the process.

Unless anyone else wants something to happen, I will be continuing on the group toward the woodcutters in the forest on Thursday

Thessilin pauses, I think I did not do a very good job explaining.... My bad, I was in a bit of a rush to get the information out. To answer you one at a time, yes it was I who sent for you Yeah, that entire meet someone else thing was for the other group and I got confused between you two. Also, what I was trying to say was that the woodcutters are gnomes, not humans or dwarves. It was just a family of them that is no longer communicating with the town, thats what happens when we seem to catch this disease. As far as the disease goes, I can not help you to much. I have not been able to get out and about so all I know is what my Rangers have told me. From what they have heard and seen it sounds like the gnomes out in the forest have lost all logic and knowledge of friend and foe. They become very wild and maybe feral, and will not move to the city, they stay in their woods. But in all truth, I am not sure though, that is why I called you in.

Here is the map again

Oh would you, that would be so nice of you. We don't have a resident cleric at this town, and are mages are not skilled in healing. I would love it if you could hurry up the process.

Thessilin smiles and seems excited when Baltazar says that they are here to help but then seems to become much more timid when it comes to discussing the problem. Well... you see..... She seems confused where to start Well... there have been a small amount, well.... a large amount of disappearances recently. Well... not really disappearances but more, well insanity. You see, we have a large population of gnomes that live out in the woods and many of them seem to have a strange.... disease.... affecting them. Me and my Rangers are usually able to keep control of the problems for the Gnomes of this town but the yearly Feast of Winter is coming up and we have not had time to deal with these strange actings. If you could I would like you to go out into the forest and look try to see what has been happening to these gnomes. Recently a group of woodcutters stopped all communication with town and we don't know what happened to them. I would go check on them myself but... she points at a broken leg Do you think you could check on the woodcutters for me?

Thessilin nods, [b] I understand your concern regarding the disease. I did not think these things could happen to gnomes. All I know is that the number of gnomes effected are growing and only those in the forest seem to be getting effected. I have not yet seen a Gnome effected by this so I only know what my Rangers have told me. I hear that they seem to forget friend and foe, it almost seems as though they have lost all logical thought. I worry it might be something related to the forest, as only forest gnomes have been effected. The woodcutters camp that I spoke of is just a little into the edge of the forest. I will mark it on your map. It is run by the 3 Alderway brothers, nice folk, but I don't know what they will be like now.

Here is the link again
Map of Area around Dwellhold

Hope everyone had a nice holiday

To Gordak The bartender seems rather surprised by the news. Lucky you, you probably just managed to beat the winter wolves here. By now they will have started to come down from the mountains to feed on the winter caravans. Anything I can do for you?

To Rowan and Quentin The gnomish women looks extremely happy at the news that you have just given her. Well... you see..... She seems confused where to start Well... there have been a small amount, well.... a large amount of disappearances recently. Well... not really disappearances but more, well insanity. DC 15 Local:
The "Feast of Winter" is a feast for many of the Gnomes in the area that celebrates the first world

Hope everyone had a nice break for the holiday

To Glyndon The Gnome women turns to you and smiles, she looks relatively young for a gnome and has curly brown hair. Depends, are you fan of overly strong beer and overcooked deer. If so, this is your place. If not you might want to leave the entire country. She chuckles at her little joke. Why is a party from out of town here?

To Triblin and Baltazar The bartender laughs as Triblin asks for some coffee. I see, a little city boy are we. I would gladly give you a nice brew of m' best hops, but if you want city drink why don't you run out and meet with a traveling circus. I here there may be one over in Halsgrad. He continues to chuckle at his joke until he hears Baltazar say why he wants to meet Swillfoot. He roars in laughter and turns to the gnomish women at the bar. Well, now Swillfoot turns out your friends actually made it. I guess you guys will have some talking to do, I'll go make some food for you guys if your friends of Thessilin.

Yeah sorry, gonna start posting again soon. Just stopped for a while for the holidays.

Sorry I am not doing much posting recently. Harvest is coming in, and 15 hour work days are not fun.

As the party makes their rather flashy and overly important entrance all of the patrons of the tavern turn to look at the door. Due to the time of day (about 11 am), there are not very many people in the tavern. A large burly Ulfen man stands behind the counter as a bartender, a small group of Ulfen men sit around a circular table, and one gnomish women in a green cloak sits at the counter. The bartender seems rather startled by the outburst but seems slightly calmed at Baltazars kind manner, "Yes I may know where she is, but what would you have need of her for. Also, please dim the lights, I try to run a respectable business and would not like this tavern to gain a name for strange magic happening in it.
