Yes, this game has been slow, and I have to put my hand up as being at least partly to blame for that (as evidenced by me being the last one to respond here to this). I think theres been a perceived lack of enthusiasm / commitment, and while that might not actually be the case, (everyone no doubt has good reasons for not posting as often as they would like), everybody is sort of feeding off that.
For my part I have no good excuse except that real life has continued to be pretty much as busy for me as when we first started character creation (I had reason to expect that things would calm down and give me more time for the most part they have not) and that a few breaks, stop-starts and such sort of broke the momentum for me.
Having said all of that, I was (and still am) really enthusiastic about the concept for this game and having French Wolf DM. I want to keep going if everybody else does and, things like what has been going on for me for the past week or so aside, I should be able to keep up a regular posting rate. Experience tells me, that when Im in a game that tends to be healthy and going along at a clipping rate, those will be the first games I check and post to every day. If a game seems slow paced or theres a perception that players are unenthused, Ill tend to check those games last
and if Im busy, and I dont get a chance to post to everything, those are the games that miss out.
So I cant promise that real life will allow me to post as much as Id like right now, but to see that most everyone else seems to still be enthusiastic about this game has re-kindled my own enthusiasm. Posting at least thrice a week should not be a problem.

My grandfather went into hospital for quite urgent heart surgery a few weeks ago. The operation was a success for the most part, but there were complications and hes had to stay confined to the intensive care unit (and undergo several follow up surgeries and procedures) to deal with improperly reset ribs and internal infections. Hes a pretty active and social guy for someone his age, and being bed-ridden (and without many visitors, given the restrictions on visitors to the ICU) is taking its toll on him. Hes started to get really frustrated at the situation and has been ripping off / out drips and breathing masks and stuff and trying to get out (which is probably only increasing the time he needs to stay there). Hes also been getting confused about where he is and why he is there, and having hallucinations. The various follow up procedures keep getting delayed and postponed, sometimes for several days (a sign of our woefully under-funded, under-staffed and mis-managed hospital system) which just adds to his and my familys frustration. Its really hard for everyone.
On top of that, I found out recently that a friend of mine has cancer. Hes a young guy, only about 27. They operated, but couldnt remove all of the cancerous tissue, so hes about to start chemotherapy. Life does suck sometimes.

It would have probably been a magical beast or an aberration. But only for a few moments before it ended up on the cutting room floor, along with the duckbear, the quackapus, the dire mallard, and the duck of ill omen.
HA have at you JJ
Duckbear
N Large Magical Aberration
Does the Duckbear ever come into conflict with the Starfishpanda?

Thanks for the insight Aubrey.
I hear you on the 3.5 game prep time thing, although its not really that much of an issue for me or rather, its so much of an issue that I rarely contemplate writing original adventures anymore. Since Ive started running 3.5 Ive pretty much exclusively used canned games, adventure paths etc. If I want to create or add encounters I tend to use standard monsters straight from the book or steal NPCs from other published sources (treasure and all). So prep time is usually no more than reading and understanding the adventure and taking a few notes for myself, maybe drawing out a couple of battlemaps.
The increased number of encounters per session seems good, although Ive heard some contradictory feedback on that. I havent followed any recent conversations on the matter, maybe now that people are getting more familiar with the new rules it is generally proving faster.
Getting through only one or two combat encounters in a session (in 3.x) is certainly a frustration in a lot of the games Ive run, but I tend to find a lot of that seems to be down to players spending a lot of time planning, discussing options and just generally dithering, rather than the combats taking excessively long to run (though of course all of that can happen in the midst of the combat encounter too).
What is it, do you think, that speeds up combat in 4e?
