Gregory,
The best thing to do if you ever have a problem with a GM or another player is not always to walk away or even complain. But it should be to go and speak to your coordinator for the event. If it IS the coordinator of the event then speak to your local VC or one of the VL's for your area... or other officer if available.

if they are not able to handle the situation or you have an issue with one of them... then speak to Mike Brock.

By coming here and speaking out to us is a good way to rant but it can also be a catalyst to a lot of issues in your area and can honestly hurt peoples feelings that you are speaking about. While no names were mentioned. It seems like it was pretty obvious who it was by a few postings. Being he was a new GM too... might mean he will not GM again because of your post and that would be a shame. I am not saying you are doing anything wrong but there are better ways.

I would hate to see a new GM stop GMing and or even stop playing because he/she is to ashamed to do so again from lack of confidence. The coordinator or local VC can mollify the situation immediately and hopefully with good results for all concerned :)

Again I am not accusing you of doing anything wrong. Just some advice going in to the future is all :)

Good Luck sir.

Welcome to the ranks sir!! You are a character from what I have seen on the Adventurer's League boards and it was good to meet you online there too. Now knowing you are a 5 star here in Pathfinder Society too.. makes it frosting on the cake!!

Congrats!!

Paizo does seem like it has learned important lessons from the past and IMO has been very smart about their strategy. It will be interesting to see what they do if the demand for their new books decreases significantly due to over-saturation.

I can't see over saturation for a long time yet :)

For those that do not know what Tact-Tiles are.. they are awesome!! They are a modular Wet and dry erase gaming surface... sort of like a Chessex map meets Paizo Flip-Mat married in to a puzzle like surface surface that is awesome to say the least. When the company went out of business awhile ago (This is NOT the same company) The Tact-Tiles sold for a small fortune on Ebay and still do, that is IF you could find them even.

Now they are coming back better then ever and by a new company.

I know there have been many many people on these forums that have wanted to see these come back in to existence.. It is in it's first day of the Kickstarter.. so lets back it up!!! :)

Go to TACT-TILES Kickstater page..

I you love it, why are you bothered they are taking actions to ensure they earn money to continue making great products?
I'm not. I understand that as a business, they have the full right to do any sort of Money-Grabbing scheme they want, and it's my choice whether I choose to support it or not. I just refused to believe that a company this awesome would sink to such a level.

The fact that you call it a "Money Grabbing Scheme" is the problem I have. No company that produces product and then uses it in their game and furthers their own product through it to me is not a scheme.. nor money grabbing. I know you are ok with Paizo promoting their own product and such. But you have to realize it is basic marketing practice when a company does produce their products they are going to do their best to promote their product and try and get you as a consumer to use them as much as possible.

Mike Brock put it succinctly though in that they are trying to get it so that the GM does not have to use 3 different rules systems for the same thing. Speaking as one of those GM's I am grateful for that as I do personally do not want to use 3 different systems where 1 will suffice. So having to make sure the person using a harrowing deck actually has one made by Paizo.. I do not have a problem with it.

So I do not see this as a a company "sinking" to a level but as a marketing practice like any other company. But also as a rules consolidation for which I am grateful. Any company that does this though is not sinking to a level. A company that you have a "need" of their product and actually can not live without and then forces you to pay more and more for said product is scamming you. But a company that gives you a choice to use their products and you whether you choose to do so or not is your choice but not a scam. Just an FYI... I know a rather long winded one. Sorry :)

Much as with the APs going "out of print", I suspect the truth is there's only one printing/production run of these, so if they sell fast it exhausts the stockpile.

At that point the question has to be asked - is it selling well enough that there should be a second production run, or did it sell so well that most people that wanted it now have it, making a second run unprofitable?

That doesn't solve the issue of people still wanting it, but at the end of the day there has to be profit for it to be viable, which means running off another however-many-thousand are needed to meet the economics of printing these things.

I have never known them to do a second print run of a flip mat. It has always been a single one. It is an economics thing as in if they did do a second run... will they be stuck with a stock pile of them that will not sell then? So because of that they will not do another print one that has already been printed.

Now on the other hand they have been known to do another type of the same type of flip mat. Such as yet another type of deep woods mat again. :)

It may have elicited an answer or two but it did more harm then it did good. So while you may think it worked, by getting one answer or two and angering a lot of people in the process is considered "worked pretty well" then I feel sad for this community and the way some people think. Very sad indeed.

Could you not simply post a "FAQ: Status Pending List" so everyone knows their topic of interest has not been forgotten, ignored, dismissed, misunderstood, etc.? It seems like that would mollify most people.

The FAQ is a service that is pretty much organized by Paizo for us as fans. A service that is voluntary on their end. They post things to the FAQ when they have time over and above their regular duties. We as the community have started to take this for advantage and seem to come to expect them to take care of it immediately. This is not how it works though.

We as a community need to learn patience and above all a little thick skin as well. Stop blaming Paizo for not doing something that is a voluntary thing, one that is purely a good thing for us and helps us out. It is not our right to have the FAQ, it is a privilege. While some might be frustrated that their questions and or problems are not getting answered. We are told by Sean at least the one in question is in the hopper so to speak, waiting it's place for discussion among the Staff to put in to the FAQ.

If you are not satisfied with "We will get to it when we have time..." then come to the community and ask it of them and see what they say about it. They might have some advice on the rule question of an interpretation of the rule that you might not have read.

Detect Magic would not in any way work with the Hidden Master ability though. In ANY way. It is a 0 level spell for one... for two it (the Hidden master ability) specifically STATES it is not detectable by any means and includes spells meant to specifically to overcome invisibility.
From the book directly: " While invisible in this way, she cannot be detected by any means, and not even invisibility purge, see invisibility, and true seeingcan reveal her." Two of which are very powerful indeed. In this case the ability specifically overrides anything said about supernatural abilities in general.

Rubber Ducky Guy. Hidden Master invisibilty is not detectable by Detect Magic. See Invisibility, Invisibility Purge and or even True Seeing will be able to detect it. So Detect Magic being a 0 level spell will certainly not be able to.

Especially since it does say that it can not be overcome in anyway.

Just because someone properly uses periods to end their sentences instead of exclamation points, smiley emoticons, or "lol" doesn't mean that they're being abusive or disrespectful.

Seriously, if you took SKR's response to be abusive or disrespectful, you need some time away from the keyboard in order to get a fresh perspective.

It may not have been abusive but it was incredibly condescending and therefore disrespectful. In addition to having nothing to do with what she asked.

It was neither condescending nor demeaning. It was an opinion that you or the OP did not agree with. You forget that text does not convey emotion very well and I think that you and the OP both seem to have take it a step further and found insult and or as close to one as you imply in the quote above, where there was none.

I think in part that he was/is a moderator and or staff member at the time seems to inflame some peoples colorful thinking on what a post says or means. One of the things I was told to do when I was a moderator for TSR/WotC for 9 years... was that we had to step away from the keyboard for a while if we got hot headed. Sean was OUR boss back when I was hired and for several years. It was a tough job and we had to have thick skins. Speaking from experience, it takes A LOT to get Sean hot headed and to speak out of turn in an insulting tone. So I trust that he was not being insulting when he made the post in question.

So, with the above being said I am taking it as text being taken out of how it should have been, as a non-insult and, misconception. I suggest if you are taking something as an insult.. turn yourself in to a devils advocate and respond from the opposite perspective then what you would normally do and see how that looks and how your response could be colored by a misconstrued thought on how things were said and how they were meant to be read.

Saying "I'm a right-wing, family values kind of guy and I have no problem with that moderation" referring to a deleted post attacking gay marriage, for example. The implication being that even though you might agree with post in general it was over the top.

This would start a whole other debate. I would say that left, moderate, independent, and right are all about family values. I really don't like when it's used to imply that if someone doesn't agree with person X's values that person Y's values are not valid. It's meant as an attack and it should be removed. It's not necessary. All of those qualifiers just add fuel to the fire. The moment anyone calls themselves "liberal" or "conservative" everyone now has an image in their mind of what to expect. The moment someone mentions their faith, a lot of different things will run through people's minds.

I know many conservatives who are atheists and support same sex marriage. I know many liberals who are very religious and who also agree with a lot of what Rand Paul has to say about economics. Whenever I see anyone try to pin a label on something when it isn't needed it's taken too far or out of context later and the discussion breaks down. It happens so often that I cringe when I see it.

Like it or not, "family values" has become a key word in the US. Used along with by someone describing themselves as right wing, it's perfectly clear what is meant. It's been part of conservative Republican propaganda for 30 years.

Now it's worth trying to reclaim that phrase to mean something other than traditional male dominant nuclear family and opposition to homosexuality, abortion, sex education and probably some other things I'm forgetting, but that's an entirely different project.

TheJeff, I do not disagree with you that the terminology of "Family Values" does need redefinition, but it does not need to be done here in these particular forums though.

Just curious, but what is the ration basis that all opinions are not equally valid or acceptable? And further who is to decide that. That's pretty far outside of a mods place or , I don't know, qualification. So who decides? Isn't that basically the point of a forum, to discuss different views, opinions and experiences, and to be able to see that of others, and decide for yourself?

You do realize forums are for discussions of what the forum was designed for by the owners of said site/forum. It is not a public venue where Freedom of Speech is ok. So with that being said, Paizo decides whether or not what is said on these forums is ok or not. So it is not nearly outside of the mods/developers place to moderate a post based on their terms of service that we all sign when we make a profile with this site. The only qualification needed is what Paizo allows for their staff members which I am sure have an in house system of rules that we are not privy to which is ok as well. But the only rules we need to worry about are the ones in the terms of service which you agreed to I am sure, since you are able to post here :)

Its a conflict of interest, or a perception of such. If your arguing passionate about something and then moderates the opposing view with warnings, time outs or pot removal, its hard not to draw that conclusion.

I've seen much worse over at sat the battletech boards of CGL. Their moderation is HORRIBLE, with mods getting into arguments and other mods slapping you down for responding. Its THE reason I left there and will never return, nor buy a single BT product EVER.

EDIT: That applies to just mods, not staff I should say.

I do not see it as a conflict of interest. I see it as a passion for their product and that is all. THat and just plain passion for what they want to believe in and or discuss. When a staff member does moderate a post from a thread, even one they are participating in with their own discussions just means that they felt it was over the line and that is all. I am not going to say that any moderation is going to be perfect and that their own bias will not come in to play... but it is part of being a "human" moderator and not a robot. I would rather see a little bias rather then just a blanket moderation of a robotic post moderation I have seen on some sites.. To me this means that they will take the postings in context as well as the sites guidelines.

So lets not go down the slippery slope of preventing someone from modding a thread they are participating in.

Holy cow - this, so much this.

In fact, I'm shocked this even needs to be brought up.

Moderating a thread in which you're also taking part is deeply inappropriate. (There's at least one Paizo staffer who does this far too often, and probably a couple more.)

Very inappropriate.

How is it inappropriate? You will find that most staffers and or mods even from different sites take place in conversations and such in most threads. If they were to excuse themselves from moderating simply because they are taking part in the thread they would not be much of a moderator then.

If you have a problem with a moderator and their discussion and or moderation actions you have the report link in their post. Many mods and staffers have brought this up.

While Do not agree with your comments about the on topic/off topic deletions it is what it is and while you may or may not agree with it. I am of the mind that they do try and let it get back on topic but when you get so many postings that it is gets frivolous that the topic basically dies down.. I think that the deletion of the posts is not a bad thing to keep it going then.

Also on the topic of Edition wars.. That is such a hot topic and one that will be for a long time in to the future. I can not blame Paizo for wanting to shut that down before it even happens. Because there is no middle ground on it and no one that enters a debate like that will go any where in the debate itself because of disagreements and passions for said game systems. To me I think Paizo in it's zealousness is righteous in stopping it BEFORE it happens!! :)

Folks.. having been a moderator for the "other" RPG company, i know that consistency in moderation is almost impossible when you have humans doing the moderation in question. I for one value the moderation regardless of consistency as it shows they are at least trying to keep it going to a semblance of moderate behavior.

The thread in question in the very fact it is still open shows Paizo's willingness to let us discuss things on a forum like this in such a way that lends value to how we as posters might view things. Ir shows us that we can actually talk about a controversial topic and they will let us.

While some posts will be removed, it happens. Complaining about it will just make the moderation come down harder as then they will try and be less lenient on how they approach certain topics and try and maintain it across the entire board instead or letting it happen in such a way that it is a discussion rather then an argument.

My advice. Let it go!

I have all of the HL Pathfinder files. It appears great until you take a close look at everything. There are a lot of feats, traits, and class abilities that do nothing. The makers of HL, Lone Wolf, are just too busy trying to keep up with new releases that they can't fix the bugs. They do fix a few but most are being ignored and more keep being created with each new release. It appears to me that they do almost no testing since if they did they would catch the bugs and fix them before release. If I were you I would save your money and wait to see if Lone Wolf can fix the bugs before buying.

Lone wolf has ALWAYS been very very proactive on the Lone Wolf web sites clearing any bugs and or issues that crop up quite quickly to be honest. I am not getting where you are feeling ignored by the staff at Lone Wolf as it just can not be further from the truth. They do not ignore anyone nor do they ignore bugs and errors as you mentioned. Some are more difficult then others to fix if and when they crop up so they might get put aside for a following update but we will see it fix if it is categorized as a bug.

So please do not come in here and say they do not keep up with them.. as trust me that can't be further from the truth!!

Now as far as testing.. there is a beta team for testing and they do test each and every update before it is released to everyone else. I DO highly recommend Hero Lab to everyone!! It is a very well done piece of software and it can be of use for anyone that uses it. Please do not let the false sense of impropriety from deterring you from doing so! I thought that I might pipe in here. I find that anything that encourages a person to step up and GM is never a bad thing. While I will probably never use the replays unless it helps fill a table. I would want replays to recharge after a year because it encourages more GM and not less.

If a person feels that they will not be able to use them again they never get used and are instead hoarded. This is common. Because of the "I might need them for a really cool scenario coming up" syndrome type of thing. Plus it is "more" of a reward if they do reset.

I enjoy GM or I would not be where I am. I do not mind GMing something I have never played and want to encourage GMing something people have never played. Sometimes it is like pulling teeth to get people to understand it is ok to do so. This type of reward does encourage a person to do so. In my opinion that is a good thing!!!

Anyone remember that Character Generator software that was included in the D&D 3rd Edition Player's Handbook? I often wonder why the hell Paizo Publishing won't give us something like? Hell, they could just include it as a one time purchasable online software you could buy, download, and update when you need to. Instead we have to make due to PC Gen and bloody Hero Lab.

I actually hated that character generator. It was clunky and slow at best and at worst.. well it was not kept up to date and it was quickly out of date from all the mistakes in the book.

I personally am glad that Paizo has gone with Hero Lab being their software that they are supporting myself. While it is not free for us to use... it is very well done and it is kep up with with all the errata and the FAQ is even added to it. Not to mention it is kept up to date with added supplements when each new Paizo product is out. If you do not want to buy any of the supplements it lets you update it on your own through the editor.

PC Gen and the Only Sheet are nice but to me while nice it just does not have the beef I am looking for is all. It is free and they are very well done and I even used them for a long time personally. But as a GM I find that PC Gen is hard to keep organized for multiple encounters and a little hard to use in and of itself at the best of times. As a Player it is awesome!! But again a little on the difficult side of things to use.

The Only Sheet is great as a player too. But with only a few people keeping it up to date it is hard for them to keep up with the supplements of all the Paizo splat books. But again it is free and I do not expect them to do so... at least easily like Hero Lab does because of the lack of being able to pay editors and developers. This is both a good and bad thing. But The Only sheet is something I recommend on a daily basis with people I play with in Pathfinder Society organized play. Especially if they can not afford even the base core rules for Hero Lab.

Hero Lab, I find it is one of the best out there for character generation and encounter tracking!! Lone Wolf has gone to great lengths to do so. They listen to their fan base like TOS and PC Gen but because of the fact that they charge for their software is why they can do so. Some feel it is to expensive and my advice to them is to buy the core software and to choose Pathfinder. Once you get the core license... you are able to purchase the things you need to buy in packages for the most part. Such as the APG, UC, UM and even any of the campaign splat books. All of these are bundled as packages. By buying only what you need and nothing more then you are not paying for nearly as much. If you are like me and feel the need to own everything then I might suggest spreading the cost out over time and not feeling the need to buy everything at once. By doing this the cost is seemingly not as daunting and can be easily budgeted for over time then.

This is my two cents. I do not find TOS and or PC Gen bad.. just not fitting my needs as a person that runs 3 campaigns a week... Hero Lab does.
I wish you luck! :)

Chemlak wrote:

Here's how it works:

Buying Hero Lab gives you a license for one game system. You can also obtain an additional license to that game system for another computer at no cost. It is also possible to buy up to two additional licenses, for more computers.

Each license is tied to the computer you activate it on. All data sets you purchase are available on all of your licensed machines.

The computers do not in any way have to have any direct link or association. I have HL installed on my desktop, my laptop, and my wife's computer. I have taken my laptop all around the country and had no issues with it. That particular license is tied to the machine itself.

You may reassign a license to a different machine once every 120 days. There aren't likely to be too many people who buy a new computer more often than that.

The only thing to be careful of is to use a different license on each machine. Trying to use the same one on two machines causes problems (this is the single most common error that occurs with multiple installs). When you request the additional license for your laptop from LWD (and you have to request it, which you can do within Hero Lab), take care to use the new license that they send you on the laptop. For best results, have your desktop and laptop next to you when you try to activate the second license: check that the two are different. You will only need to do this once, if you remember to save the license details on the machine.

That should be everything you need to do to make it work.

As above Chemlak is completely correct. You get one game system. Be it Pathfinder, 4E, Savage Worlds and or something else. With the purchase of Hero Lab you get two licenses (different from the game system) to apply to two different computer systems. Once you have chosen a game system though and want another game system, you have to purchase another at the same cost of $29.99. Each additional licenses to use on a different computer system (up to two more from the original two) costs $10.00 for a total of 4 licenses (the original two and two additional ones).

So if you want the Pathfinder RPG game system for Hero Lab it would cost $29.99 (which comes with two licenses) and you want to put Hero lab on a third computer thus needing to purchase a third license will cost $10.00 more and a fourth another $10.00 for a total of $49.99. If you ever buy any add-ons for Pathfinder, then those ALL will appear on any licensed computer with the Pathfinder game system on it.

I routinely got two cases, ended up with an average of 6 rares missing, and bought them aftermarket for an average total aftermarket of under $50 - so my total cost was about $250 for a complete set, with lots of each common and a couple of each uncommon. And for each rare I had to buy, I had a different duplicate rare that I could keep or sell - I more than made up for it on some occasions. Comparing that to the current $440 + shipping for a case plus premium figure - the price of plastic hasn't gone up THAT much.

In general, the paint quality on PFB has been much better, and I've been willing to get a single case of the last few sets. And I was in awe of the paint jobs on some of the large figures in LoG. But my King Irovetti has no face, just a swirly blob of brown. I never had this kind of issue on DDM minis, even the commons (well, maybe on some of the original Harbinger set), so to see this on a Rare is a bit shocking, and makes me question whether to get the next set or not. I'll probably hold off until I see people's reviews.

Cintra,

Again you are NOT taking into account inflation and the cost of petroleum which is an important part of producing the plastic used in the minis we like so much. Trust me when I say that the DDM minis are NO cheaper then the PBM mini's that we have today. People keep saying that they paid 250 dollars for their minis back then for two cases and such... today that would be almost as much as cost as PBM's cost if you factor in the economy and everything else.

There is a reason WotC discontinued the line. It was not cost effective to their profit margin any longer. And to say that you never had the paint issues with DDM minis... I can show you many many pictures of blotchy paint, mold lines, even some flash and just plain fugly looking minis in the DDM line that make any of the paint jobs by PBM so so much superior in comparison.

Do not put the DDM minis on a pedestal and not expect people to go up in arms about it. DDM minis are produced differently and for a reason. I hated the bases on the DDM minis they were always warped. I love the bases on PBM because of their stiffness. If they come away from the minis I just glue em back on. still much better then having a mini bent over the base so badly that it looks like it is walking sideways or it rocks like a rocking chair all the time and even falls over from balance issues.

So yea the price of minis HAS gone up that much because of the cost of petroleum!! So think on that for a moment and why WotC no longer has the mini line.
Sorry about my ranting but it just frustrates me that people do not take in to account costs like this.

Not to mention it was frequently 3-4 cases for me to get a full set just shy of 6-10 minis that I traded for or bought on the singles market. So you are far luckier than most of my friends and myself were too.

I hope they fix the quality of their paint jobs. Ever since Paizo starting the prepainted minis their sculpts have been great and way back with the release of Heroes and Monsters the paint jobs were amazing for a prepainted plastic, but each set release loses more and more quality in paint detail. It went from stand alone quality to about as bad as the D&D prepainted minis and now the paint jobs on this last Skull and Shackles is almost as bad as the old mage knight prepainted minis. Almost half of the eyes that are paint stamped on are way out of place, like down on the cheeks or up on the forehead. Because this next Legends set has so many creatures in it I want (Sandpoint Devil) I am going to give it one more try, but if the paint quality isn't any better than the last couple of sets then I'm done with Pathfinder minis. Also slow down with releasing so many expensive sets so close together you greedy buggers, my character may have bags of gold filling up his Bag of Holding, but I don't. You have 3 expensive releases in December of all months. Should just direct deposit my money to Paizo and they can tell me if I can keep enough to eat or not. Paizo, take some pride in the quality of your work and take a break on our wallets.

Brell,

In this I could not disagree more. First it is NOT Paizo that is doing the miniatures.. it is Wizkids. I also disagree that the paint jobs are getting worse with each set released. I think that in fact they are improving tremendously. Are they professional quaility minis that you might see with metal mini's, not at all. But they are great none the less. With plastic miniatures the details tend to get lost in the plastic itself and while this is not an excuse it is just a clarification as to why you might think that it is loosing detail in the paint. This is simply NOT the case. Faces in particular are very detailed on the uncommons and rares and on the commons not as much. Regardless they are head over heals 10 times better then ANY of the Dungeons and Dragons pre-painted miniatures. I for one will continue to support the Pathfinder Battles miniature line because of this. Wizkids does it well!!
Now on the topic of release scheduling. This as been told many many times over. This years releases for miniatures is NOT normal. They were behind a set and decided to fit it in this year. Next year the release schedule will again normalize and you might see two to three sets and that is it. I agree it is expensive, but there is no reason you have to buy full cases for each set. I have got full cases of the first 3 but this one I do not. I will buy a bunch of boosters though I am sure. I enjoy the opening of them and love seeing the amazing details on the minis. I am going to be buying a full set of Legends of Golarion and Wraith of the Righteous too.
if you do not like them I can understand and the above is my opinion but I think many will agree with me in that opinion and certainly most people I talk to about them here where I live love them!! So much so they go and buy boosters when I show them the ones I have :)

Either way I wish you luck but keep in mind that the DDM minis to get a full set was more or less much the same in cost to get a full set by buying cases... it would take about 3-4 boxes and even then it was not always a full set even with that many cases. Sometimes it took 5-6 full cases to get a full set. Which to me is ridiculous!

Great advice. I may just test out this suggestion that I can take my unopened 16g iPad to an Apple Store and upgrade it for the price difference. That would mean I could basically get a 32g for $100 or a 64g for $200....

Dang, I didn't need that sort of temptation!

This the same with a used iPad 2??? :D (4 months old)

Actually it has not BEEN that long that I even want to start to think about them doing a 2nd iteration of the Pathfinder rules. Right now I think that it is going well and strong. There is no rules bloat and the suggestions I am seeing in this thread would not improve much other then to promote a lot of power creep in to the game for the most part. Not all suggestions were like that but some were.

If I were Paizo I would not even consider worrying about it for another 4 years. Then and ONLY then I would do it and improve upon the rules with a very well done play-testing like they did with the original rule set in the 1rst iteration.

WotC is putting editions out to fast in my opinion, in 13 year they are in p;ay test for their third edition of a rule set and in such a way that they went through major changes with each rule set. To the point where it is hurting them with their fan base. By putting editions out so fast their fan base gets angrier because they have to buy so many books. But the rate in which they put books out with the rules bloat they almost HAVE to put new editions out the way they have been. This is not to be an edition war but as a means to a comparison. Even D&D next there is a lot of controversy with it and their fan base. In playing both D&D and Pathfinder I have to say I am one of those fans that is upset.

I do not think that WotC is making the right decision here. Nor would I think that Paizo would be making a good decision if they put a new edition out to fast. I know I am in the minority on this thread but I think it is too soon. Besides this edition still has a lot to do for it before that happens. Right now there is no rules bloat and lots of fluff as well as a goodly amount of rules without it being over burdened but either. Paizo has struck a good balance... Here is for them to keep it going!!! :)

Personally I think part of what some people are missing is that it is not JUST about the wealth in the playing up or down.

In some of the tables I have heard about from some of the players at my tables is that they felt bullied in to playing up unfairly. They were in a table muster and grouped with some people and were in the tier break and when asked if they wanted to play up or down... everyone but two people in the group said they want to play up... so the GM did so. That is a mistake. As a player I would have walked away and had been very mad... rightly so! As a GM it has to unanimous and "ok" with everyone. I want no one and I do mean NO ONE to feel guilted in to playing up and or down.

If someone says "no they do not want to play up" then it is down they are playing. If everyone is ok with playing up and happy about it... and they fit with in the parameters of doing so I let them.

I am glad that Mr Brock is trying to come up with a solution to the "playing up" situation and the problems that arise because of it. I want everyone at my tables to walk away happy with what they did and how they did it. Regardless of playing up or not. As GM it is important to make sure this happens. As a player... we too have the responsibility to make sure everyone at the table is having fun too.. it is not just up to the GM to make sure it happens. If one player is not having fun as a player you should be asking yourself why and what happened to make it so. We all are the face of the Pathfinder Society.. when sitting at the table. it is time to show it and make sure we are all having fun! :)

If you are referring to Drive Thru RPG. They did make it so that Pathfinder RPG is a separate rules system. At least it was when I was there not to long ago.

David,
If you have a pre-req feat that is part of a chain of feats. You can't swap out one of the so called useless ones that are first in the chain without disrupting the chain and not being able to use the latter feats then. So if you take two feats.. the first one being useless in your opinion and the second one being the one you want. Then remove the first feat and swap it for another makes the second feat no longer able to use.

In the last session I played, I used the slumber hex to put a manticore out of action. On its action, the other manticore roared and woke it up. That was annoying. I then used the hex to slumber the other manticore as it flew above the group, but the fall to the ground woke it up as well. Still, it was a fun fight and we ultimately won with only the half-orc paladin taking any serious damage.

The Roar should NOT have woken it up. It does state specifically that noise does NOT wake them up. A sleeping character had to be woken by a standard action or take damage to wake them up.

Man are you making tons and tons of assumptions. Considering you have never played the game at this point. Even if you HAVE played the game in beta... it is BETA and by it's very nature subject to change and redux.

Goblinworks is not lying to you in the least. They have supported everything that they have said. The comments you are making is not even on the kickstarter. They have mentioned micro-transactions and such and talked about the world being fully integrated in to the setting with the players being able to change it to a degree that has not really been done before in other MMO's

Again... unless you have played in it you are making way to many assumptions here and we all know what happens when you assume.

If I wanted fiction I'd go buy the fiction - pull it out, make it its own subscription and see how many people are actually willing to pay for it. I'd guess almost none.

When I buy a cookbook, I don't want it filled with stories about a person's grandmother. When I buy a technical manual for a piece of software, I don't want it filled with anecdotes on how the software came into being. When I buy an AP path, I don't want it filled with something that is of no use to me whatsoever. I can think of a dozen better uses for those pages.

When I buy an Adventure Path I do WANT flavor text and yes Fiction IS very very much a part of that. While your anecdotes are all well and good. the Fiction being included in the AP gives us a feel for the setting, the city and the AP in general. It does not detract from the AP at all by including it. If you would rather not read it, then by all means please do not. But do not assume that others would not just because it might not sell separately if pulled out on it's own. If on it's own it would not make as much sense because it is NOT tied in to the AP then.

So KEEP the fiction in please!

No No.. do NOT remove the fiction. I find that the fiction directly contributes to the feel of the setting for the AP it is in. If a GM were to read it (which is why it is there) they can actually get a feel for how the natives might speak and how people might react to certain things and the like.

It is a very helpful tool!!

I would rather have more maps and the like OUTSIDE of the AP rather then remove something from it.

For the record, I have NO problems with non-randomized minis. If I know what's in the box, and what it looks like, I am just peachy with buying quite a few.

If Wizkids offered the entire mini line in sets, and with accurate photos of each on the box, I would be happy to buy lots of beasties, particularly if they were arranged by theme (undead, Small characters, etc).

But this randomized crap? Heck no! I've done that before, and gotten severely burned. Got lucky and was able to trade them away, especially since I didn't care about rarity or relative monetary value. I just cared if I liked their look, and that I didn't have duplicates.

The best part is that they COULD be made relatively on demand. Say you release a given set (not individually packed, instead a series of groups of minis), and some of that set seems to sell out ASAP. Okay, you just send to the manufacturer for more. This has the added benefit of providing useful data as to what is popular. If a box (containing a set group of minis) doesn't sell, you haven't made that many anyway of that set, so you don't have to make more. In the future, the manufacturer now knows what sells, and what doesn't.

I really don't care about blowback. What I care about is honorable business tactics, because they determine what I buy. If I find out a company regularly screws over buyers by putting out shoddy product, I won't buy from them. I can even name companies I already do so with. Conversely, if I find something that impresses me, I am a loyal customer for years. No kidding. And I even talk up their stuff to my friends.

I get it, you were screwed over by the other company that did prepainted plastic miniatures. When buying a case from them you are right you got screwed over because you got no where near a case on one purchase or even two case purchases. It was tough. Wizkids and Pathfinder miniatures is NOT like that. If you buy a case from them.. you might not get a set.. and I stress "might" not. This is a slim chance that you will not get a full set. If you did not get a set.. that means you might have to trade or buy a single mini or two on the outside. Of the three sets that are out and I bought a case of each.. I am missing ONE from the Rise of the Runelords set. This is amazing to me as in buying so many of the DDM minis that was not the case.

So if you want to get upset with Wizkids for something another company did and accuse them of a business practice that they are not doing. That is up to you. But keep in mind that is simply not the case. If you think that randomized miniatures is not fair.. then DO NOT BUY them. It really is THAT simple. I am sorry but the randomized set-up has been explained over and over. To my liking even. I bought and drank the Cool-aid and I keep drinking. If you choose not to.. that is on you. But for now, good luck in trying to convince them to change their mind. Meanwhile stop accusing Paizo of this.. they are not to blame. In my opinion nor is Wizkids.

It may not be obvious until you look into it, but the random element isn't about making it a broad, high-quality line of prepainted plastic minis more profitable—it's about making it possible.
I've read explanations of this (including Lisa's that was linked to) before, and I still can't quite wrap my head around it. If web stores can buy randomized bricks from WizKids, open them all up, price and sell them individually and make a profit, why is it impossible for WizKids/Paizo to do so?

It is the randomization that sets the rarity and essentially the price of what those companies other then Wizkids to do so. Without the randomization the cost would sky rocket and make them a non-starter as no one would really buy them because they would be very very expensive.

It is a marketing thing. Without the randomization there is no rares, uncommons and commons to set the tone for what people might trade for and or buy them at. Believe it or not it is not JUST about profit (which is part of it) but viability too.

It is a tough thing to comprehend but Vic is not stretching the truth by any means here.

Just so you know Paizo only okay's the sculpts and the artwork. They do NOT produce these miniatures Piccolo. Wizkids does. Comparing Paizo to WotC is not truly fair or warranted in my humble as it is, opinion.

A few breakages does not make it "prone" to them. Out of ALL the Dragons sold this far (more then a thousand I am sure) less then 50 have been reported here as "broken". This is not even close to being prone.

Also when I bought an entire case I bought 128 mini's which is what I wanted including ALL the duplicates and yes I WANT duplicates as seldom do my players/characters encounter just "1" creature of type. Having many of them is usually a good thing!!!

If you want a full set then buying a case is the way to go. This one is pretty well done that if you purchase a case you will usually get a full set. OR you can do as others do and purchase them singly through this web site or another 3rd party web site that sells them. but this means you will not get near the duplicates and such that a person does with a full case.

Again this is not a greed thing Piccolo so I am not sure where you are getting that from. A company wants to make money sure but we as consumers also want to "collect" them so they need to be randomized too. This brings out the rarities and such to make them semi/very collectable.

Again not poor form... not at all. I wish you luck in your choice but coming on here and almost accusing a company that wants to make money greedy.. well that my friend is poor form as companies NEED to make money to pay their employees and (in the case of a publicly traded company) it's stock holders. That is not greed but good business form.
