Celurian could you try something?
a cross between a fantasy and futuristic sword?
the handle would be the futuristic part: the handle like a pirate's rapier, a cover for the hand and an metal arc to protect the hand. it is made of perfectly fitting sections, with buttons along the handle, close to where the fingertips rest, lights in the cover showing the swordsman which capabilities are working.
fantasy: the blade is long and straight in one side, the other is lightly curved like a scimitar, its made of transparent blue crystal, energy shining inside it, a red jewel is almost in the point crossing both sides of the blade and shining with power.

Erik... I must tell you... I hate you :P
please I know the purist idea of NO corecting the original mistakes, and that is truer and closer to the genr... I know.. but when the scene could be take for the worst by a simple change of words... can we edit that?
lol, sorry, there is a paragraph in the middle of the book... that has deeply pushed inside my mind, and the srenght of Howard's words is so great that I can't take it away... even when I know it WAS a doubt INSTEAD of a certainty...
It took me 2 days to be able to continue reading (when i began i returned to that paragraph in disbelief and rereadit al least 6 times! i know... its morbid ) until i discovered the ruth of the and my msitake 2 pages later and was certain 2 more ahead.

We'll draw your Pathfinder requests!
Hello everyone, Hello Hugo. This is a wonderful opportunity to practice my drawing skills. And because of that i would like to put my drawing services to anyone who needs them in the thing I'm best at; drawing items.
So if you need a drawing of an item just leave a description and I would get to work.
i would give you a list to find descriptions of characters pending.. but since Geocities the list is down, now i need to find a free site toput it...
any ideas people?

cof cof... Heretic!
lol ok, now seriuously, to each its own, but still is a shame, we have found that to that Monte Cook is both the best and most creative developer in the rpg bussiness these days, at least in the d20 side.
mmm classes mightbe useful, ater all they are d20, they will have some quite different aspects but the rest must be workable

I like the idea of the factions in PFS, but there's one faction I think is missing.... Absalom. Personally I'd love to be able to have a character that is more about keeping Absalom free of the meddling influence of all five factions. Any insight on why that choice isn't available or couldn't be made such at some point?
Thanks.
/Paul
i agree with you, i have taken my liking to Absalom, so I would prefer to keep it safe than help one of the opther factions grow... and going factionless is crippling yourself
besides its not like Lord Gyr doesn't know the other 5 factions are moving against Absalom and playing them along while preparing his own resources!

The PCs in a game I'll be running around Halloween are going to encounter a creepy old hangman's tree with several bodies hanging from it.
The 'bodies' are of course zombies. In fact, the tree itself is a monster and will use those zombies as flail-like weapons to clobber the PCs with.
The image in my head is of a naked, gnarled tree with a single red eye somewhere high on the trunk. Two or three zombies are being swung about wildly. Though mindless, they seem unhappy with this state of affairs- kicking, clutching their nooses, and howling in general discomfort.

well people in the end everything is summarized in you could play dumb heroes who just jump without looking first, courageous heroes who think with their guts before their brains but who really try to use their resources to maximum advantage... or you can play smart and plan your battles...
if someone wants to play an ignorant farmer who never learned to properly set an ambush... its cool
if others want to play a group of mercenaries that have field experience and they are good at what they do then they will act accordingly and play smart... more power to them...
if you are a DM or player offended by any one of this... change tables and people, you will not have fun...
but please lets not tell people they should not play like this, whatever we think about, if they are happy playing like that... that is their problem.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem. You'd basically be doing "life" stuff, then writing the rest of your waking hours.
the idea doesn't bother me THAT much, just no videogames... but my roleplaying games would suffer
besides :S i wouldn'tbe writing for the PF Chronicler for a moth, nor editing non nothing else :S

Gothic Horror is quite different to High Fantasy and they don't mix well so please DON'T COMPARE WHAT CAN?T BE COMPARED
by the way Mina was not part of the party, but a victim... Harker's love, yes she took some involvement... but good part of it she would have become an NPC... otherwise it would have been quite boring for the player... THIS according to the NOVEL please don't mix the awful movie of Coppola here, only good thing was the music and vestuary.
And VAN HELSING was an professional and reputed VAMPIRE HUNTER, so YES he is a a professional adventurer... so is Quincy Jones a Cowboy who knew how to fight and surely did in his youth... only the good Englishmen were not ready for the adventure.

[Okay, you have me there. Though the basic argument still holds mostly true, in that adventures are not the kind of people who have the time to sit down for a year with a variety of weapons and pig carcasses, just to work out which one does the most damage in a scientific manner. They arn't going to destroy a thosand suits of armour to work out, which weapons goes through it best. Personal taste, anacdotal and experience teach them what to use when, not any great understanding of what truely works best, nor why those things work best.
actually... elf and dwarves have both the time... and the inclination... elves master their craft to perfection, dwarves to create things that endure...
only humans fail at these... and the adventurers that don't learn to plan usually die young, has anyone asked why there are TPKs?
most of the time it might be the DM or bad luck... but when players don't use their resources correctly or don't plan according to it or don't prepare for that... well they die...
that is why i liked Ravenloft, as the old Joes said... "knowing is half the battle!"

A - Stupid. Call it "Chaotic Stupid," "Lawful Stupid," or "Stupid Good" as you wish. In play, these characters tend to end up dead and endanger the rest of the party.
B - Smart. Other than "only fights on his own terms," there is nothing preventing such a character from doing good deeds, protecting others, defeating villains, etc. Substitute "fights on his own terms as much as possible" and it works fine.
I'll say it again: "Heroism" (whatever you call it) describes with motivation, "professionalism" (whatever you call it) describes action.
are you suggesting that Roleplaying companies make adventure for stupid characters? because basically most of the APs I have read suppose players have minimum information, and try to make players to go all the encounters... if they don't do this of course they lose precious experience... which is mostly gained through combat...
don't take me wrong I indeed accept Hero or Professional is about motivations, always...
but most of the fantasies have of course a hero either reluctant or not that has luck (goddammit what is supposed to be Luck Skywalker when no damn stormtroopers in a firing squad in close quarters, with time to aim and they can't just land a hit on him? they are the best of the best the damnable 501! and they can't scratch him! THIS is LUCK!)
but of course not every hero is like that... as not every hero is a Tactician...
For those who play like swat teams, who lay their plans, decide how to enter in advance and know every what is needed to know from their enemies they just that TACTICIANS... and yet they can have problems... there is the old saying "the best laid plans are perfect, until meet with the enemy" or something like that.
The other kind of hero is the one who knows that there is action that is needed, so he jumps into the fray, he will later see what was the consequences of this... not everyone ends dead, they just do what must be done, they take decisions in the moment and act through this, its gut feeling, there is an example in "Band of Brothers"... where Spears ask "what do you need?" "we need to communicate with the other side of the town but we have no lines and we need them here!" "ok"
said town was full of Germans shooting them... moving around the town would take to damn much time... what does Spears DO? he runs along the middle of the town, he is not shooting, he is just running, the Germans surprised don't even shot him at first... Spears arrive to the other side and communicate the orders... then... he ran the other way and gives the answer.. true story... man is alive, or was alive yet a few years ago... he DID was what was needed, what his gut told him and he was successful.
so to change the nomenclature from Hero to Professional I would Say
TACTICIANS and VISCERALS

hey she is not DUMB as a brick... she can change tactics.. after a couple rounds :P
she just believes in the Charge Tactic and Cleave until they are dead...
but partially aye... professionals are there because that is their job... heroes, luck, chance or simply a call of destiny.
we have 2 characters in the same side...
Luke Skywalker is a hero, not just because he is dumber than most heroes, but because he does what he doe because that is the right thing to do.
Han Solo is a professional, he did the job because he got paid... leter... well because his pay was underneath Leia's skirts...

ok i understand what you people say about "professional" and "heroes" and i disagree
Heroes don't need to be STUPID... even if DM and APs like to think they are...
for me the difference of those two types of players is motivation "heroes" do things because they fell right doing them, my character Jordan Fenix is a Heroe...
Professionals... do thing because they win something in return... Hella my mercenary is a Professional
wht you identify is different stiles of strategies... yeah most DM like to have their players, play dumb and go every encounter, losing every resource until they complete what th rules say...
I make my encounters hard... and my players look for smart ways to counter them.. like not taking them... this smart..
I insist Heroes are not supposed to be stupid, even if the DM and APs want them this way... players should be let to be smart and use EVERY resource available... that is an interesting and smart game.

Actually... a tourist's map was precisely the goal and hope for this map. It's something we WANTED out of the cartographer, and we got what we wanted. It just turns out that it's not what a lot of customers wanted, even though what they wanted instead was not necessary to run the adventure path, in my opinion. It was, to a certain extent, an experiment. I have my results now, and in the future I suspect if we do something like this again we'll probably just be ordering two maps; a "tourist map" and a "satellite-view map." That just means that I'm going to have to be a super-charged nit-picking ogre when it comes to the "satellite-view maps" I guess, since they're even worse than a tourist map for details if they're not done accurately enough.
ohh well that is understandable, je well its your fault, you have us used to really useful and marvelous maps :P this was strange, pretty but strange

They are indeed important. They're not ALWAYS important, though.
James the real problem of your map, is not thelack of scale, but that is a caricature... in my country in turistic cities people are given maps like that, just add it interesting palces to visit being resalted and more publicity..
this is not a critizism... I just considered this from the begginig, one of those maps is good enought to give yourself an idea where you are, but is not useful to determine how big or densely populated a city is.
example: Puerto Vallarta Tourist Map
so i say don't worry yourself that much about the size of thehouses, scale the map due to population and what size you like and make distances figured through that.
i will send the information about cartographers needed to a friend.

I must admit i am the freakI am today, because since I was young I was a freak, but one who chose its path after meeting D&D
Certianly if I sit to analyze WHAT has changed my life... I could certianly say that these books:
Dungeons & Dragons Red Box (there I fell in love with the cleric and helped me elarn english)
Advance Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition helped define what 'Fantasy' meant for me
AD&D 2nd Edition Ravenloft Campaign Book gave me parameters of what is horror and how to write or storytell it.
Vampire: The Masquerade 2nd Edition defined my worl for many years, and has defined my view of modern world and what vampreis should be (be damned shinign vampires to hell!)
Gustavo Adolpho Becker's Poetry, it certainly cuaght my soul for many years to come
I loved fantasy and horror, and I liked writing, but this thingslet me made my fantasies true and helped me understand things I was barely scratching, to all of them thanks.
Besides those every single book I read makes me grow in one way or the other.
its interesting and scary to realize that i have read a lot of things in my life... but basically RPG has defined my life, for good or ill.
