Another busy post, Melon wants to trip the wight - but since she doesn't have Improved Trip that would provoke (and the damage the wight might deal would make the trip less likely). So to circumvent this Melon will provoke through movement, then respond to a potential missed AOO of the wight and then still do the actual trip (or if the AOO response triggers that might form the actual trip attempt). The risky bit is the first step, as she cannot have the defensive fighting bonus up until she attacks or gets an AOO. @Navior: rebuild the story or action if you disagree with any of the steps (for example if the wight chooses not to use its AOO on the movement or if it has Combat Reflexes). HP 9/14 Melon stumbles backwards, blood still running down her neck in ugly smears. Her guard is slightly down, allowing the undead creature to follow-up quickly with an attack of opportunity. Wight AOO vs Melon AC 19 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 The cold claws rake just over where Melon's head used to be, as she dodges out of the way in a spinning crouch - her leg extends to sweep the footing of the creature from under it. Melon's snake style AOO vs wight, trip attempt, defensive 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 2 = 21 Provokes, if the wight has Combat Reflexes. I assume no. I also assume that this is sufficient to trip the wight. Melon's hand reaches out to the falling wight, grabbing the creature behind the head in mid-air and tries to smash it into the floor face first. Attack, defensive, vs prone foe 1d20 + 5 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 4 - 2 = 18 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
My apologies - I was in Namibia (south-western Africa) and the internet was more unreliable than I was expecting so I didn't get a chance to tell all my pbp-threads. AC 22; HP 19/19
Melon, calmly, pushes her hand past the creature - her hand next to its face - and then tries to slam its head against the doorframe. Attack, defensively 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 2 = 12 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
AC 18; HP 19/19
Melon instinctively imposes herself between the undead abomination and the rest of her party; specifically she cuts of the direct line to Malan. She punches cautiously, unsure how to treat Gilfroy's warning. The fist at least connects - but lacks any significant stopping power. Attack, defensively 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 2 = 19 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Apparently Melon's hour of mage armor is up. Oh. A wight. Nice knowing you guys.
"There's still the rest of this floor left though," Melon vaguely points to the other side. "Besides, why do we want to find a secret tunnel that can escape this place? We can just walk out via the main gate." There's a thoughtful pause, before she adds: "Is... anybody else worried that we've not had the hunting horns sounded and have a whole army descend on us? It's a little quiet after those two stinky fellas."
AC 22; HP 19/19 Melon's left hand snakes out from under her guard, striking with two fingers underneath the troglodyte's armpit - the scales are a bit softer there - allowing the fingers to penetrate and puncture the lung. Attack, height advantage, defensive 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 19 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
hehehe@Gilfroy :) AC 22; HP 19/19
Melon continues her momentum by leaping slightly against the wall and kick-off to land on the table. She flicks a finger at the eyes of the right-most troglodyte to blind it temporarily. Dirty trick (blind) vs #1, height advantage, against prone opponent, defensively 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 + 4 - 2 = 21
AC 19 - 2(charge); HP 19/19
"Cayden's morning breath! That reeks! AGH! Quick! Drop'em!" Melon rushes into the room, leaping feet-first forward to skid with her bum over the table and use her legs in a scissor sweep to knock one of the stinking creatures to the floor. Leaping charge
That looks like it went well :)
"I don't mind then, if we push on," Melon looks up at the keep. "Maybe we're lucky and find a storage room with healing supplies." She eyes Gilfroy and Malan. "Both of you look like you need more than just a divine spell each." She looks squarely at Tevyn and Corinna, "If any of us becomes unable to fight, then we'll retreat, okay? Ameiko's life is at stake - but she wouldn't want to carry the burden of living at the cost of somebody else's."
Melon is quick to take the opening in the corbies' defenses and delivers a lethal - if somewhat brutal - end to their lives. "Do you guys want to push on now? The guy in the store said the potion would last an hour - so I am good to go for a while longer. But I think we should be a bit cautious. We don't know how many more of these birdmen are there - or whatever else waits for us. Other than the strange man. An... oni? I think we can camp up at the shrine, if we keep watches we can intercept any raid that they might launch - but either way, we're not taking them by surprise now."
Since #8 and #12 are staggered, they should get one attack each - meaning all attacks miss :) Before Melon waits specifically for the weakened corby to attack her, then strikes back with a vicious elbow that (hopefully) incapacitates the creature permanently. AOO against #8 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 16 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Melon's turn
Melon shifts her body slightly 5ft to AH34 to begin encircling the birdmen, then attempts a brutal kick into the solar plexus. Attack against #8, or #6; defensively 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 10 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Beforehand Melon waits for the wounded corby's attack - then is surprised when he unexpectedly connects. She tries to dodge out of the way, but fails when the foe behind her gets in the way. Angrily she smashes at the guy behind her in response to his attack - but then leaves herself open to his second attack. Immediate Sense Motive AC 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12
Melon's Round
When she next regains her composure, Melon decides to double-up her efforts on the birdman she just hit - hoping to stagger him too. The attack hits the ribcage and Melon feels some ribs crack under the impact. Deftly she steps closer to her allies to avoid being encircled again too easily. "A smidgen of healing please, if you can," she hollers at Gilfroy when she sees him come out again. Attack, defensively 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 22 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Melon waits for the boldest #8 of the birdmen to attack her, hoping to finish him off - or at least incapacitate him. When the other corby hits her, she's too distracted to dodge out of the way, but just after that her marked foe attacks her. She weaves between his attacks and counters with an attack of her own. Immediate action Sense Motive AC 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14 AOO against #8 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 23 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 AC 22; HP 14/19 Melon is satisfied with the connection on her prior attack, but that confidence is not enough to ensure her follow-up - a kick - also strikes the target. Attack, defensive 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 9 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Just realized that Melon's turn is up now too. AC 22; HP 17/19 She follows up with a second knee that definitely finds its mark. Unfortunately the anatomy of these birdmen wasn't quite what Melon was expecting - and though painful, the knee turns out not quite as effective as it could be. "I'll hold the line! Get the one behind me!" Attack, defensively #10 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 24 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Crisis these guys take a lot of punishment before going down. Before Melon's turn AOO against #11 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 13 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Melon's turn
Melon desperately flings both her hands in a single chop at the corby. "Why don't you just DIE!? Die damn you!" Attack, defensively, #11 or #12 if #11 is down 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 8 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Previously Attack of Opportunity, Snake Style, against #11 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Melon's turn starts AC 22; HP 19/19
Melon reels from her own spurt of movement, the swift responses that her style mandated were working - but also difficult to perform. Her body just didn't react reflexively enough. Not yet. Furiously she smashes her fist into the corby again - hoping to finally bring it down. Seeing a bloody patch where her fist connected she nods to herself, then steps slightly back. "Blast! So many of these wretches! - And you smell!" she shouts at the closest one. Attack, defensive, against #11 (or #12 if the first one drops) 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 21 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Attack of Opportunity, snake style vs missing corby 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15 damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 AC 19; HP 19/19 After a quick opportunistic swipe at the birdman when he misses her, Melon steps to an unthreatened space and quickly takes out and downs a potion. "Come at me! You got nothing!" Melon 5ft steps to AF31, takes out and drinks a potion of mage armor.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, these will be Melon's actions: step out of reach of foes, take out a potion of mage armor and drink it. "Thanks Fezzy -" Melon eyes the long-nosed man. "WHO ARE YOU!? BY THE ORDER OF SHE WHO KNOWS NO SHAME, I COMMAND YOU TO DESIST!" She says this, oddly, while stepping out of harms way and chugging down a potion.
