BACKGROUND

Mei is a young monk who has just completed her first years of temple training and is, finally, allowed to travel and discover the world. Her family hails from Sandpoint, and as a young girl Mei was in and out of the Mvashti household. Koya was a second mother, and Niska was a grandma. Mai kept up a correspondence with Niska while away at the Temple, and a bundle of Niska's letters in a scented wooden box is one of her most cherished possessions.
In the last year at the Temple, Mai learned of Niska's death. It was too far to travel for the funeral, and so Mai threw herself into her studies, determined to earn her journeyman status so that she could travel back to Sandpoint. She is glad to be visiting her old home, delighted to see Koya again, and still guilty that she did not come back for Niska's funeral. Mei also has a secret. In one of her last letters, Niska begged Mei that, if Koya ever went on a long trip, Mei would go with her to ensure her safety. In her heart, Mei has made this promise to the spirit of her adopted grandma.

DESCRIPTION

Mei is stern looking and plain in appearance. She can be bossy and demanding, and will often try to organise those around her. This can be off-putting to some, but Mei has only her friends' best interests at heart, and she would give anything to protect those she chooses as family.
