Liberty's Edge

FINALLY found a decent image for my website :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I'm sure I can come up with something, at least by the time you have completed the errands in hand if not before :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barret climbs up without disgracing himself this time (!) and finds himself on a walkway that runs along the east and part of the south walls of the massive vat chamber. There are 2 doors in the east wall and one to the south. There's a rather nasty smell up here - rotten meat? - vying with the smell from the vats.

Liberty's Edge

Good points. Silena, you do not need to dispose of anything but do not really need topping-up to reach WBL either. The rest of you are short, so have at the treasure list Silena's posted and if you are still short you may top up.

Depending on what you have chosen to do for the year of down-time you may have some income. Silena, once she's made stuff for you, can always set out a stall if she wants!

Sonya, the High Priest is a kindly old fellow by the name of Goldingay. The items from D3 from which you may have one are: a phylactery of faithfulness, a periapt of Wisdom +2, a necklace of fireballs (type III), and a lesser strand of prayer beads. What takes your fancy?

The next day dawns clear and bright, developing into a glorious day.

Barnabas and Jirani visit the settlers' camp, finding few in need of major healing - they seem a pretty healthy bunch. There's a boy who fell out of a tree and broke his arm and a couple of fevers to deal with, little else.

The people there include farmers, a tanner, and several young men who are eager to find opportunities wherever they might come. One asks if any army or militia exists in your lands, most are seeking work from farmers or crafters. There is also a middle-aged lady who says that she makes carpets, and will be buying wool from the sheep farmers. The crafters intend to move to the new township, the farmers to spread out and find suitable land for their needs.

Lothar and Rhasadilara, what do you want to do this fine morning?

Liberty's Edge

Even if you go round gathering every bit of loot, this AP seems a bit underpowered, and I get the feeling that you lot would like some more! Nothing like a bit of honest greed... and you have worked hard for it.

So, approval for the suggestions made above is granted.

How long do you want to spend on this year of downtime? (It will at least give me time to read the next chapter of the AP!)

@Silena, of course you may research Leopard's Paw.

En-Nebi, Blade of the Leopard
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 9th
Slot —; Price 10,302 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Description
Crafted in Katapesh some 300 years ago, En-Nebi is a katar some 15 inches in length. An embossed image of a ferocious Katapeshi leopard adorns the weapon’s hilt, while strange shadowy patterns writhe across its damascened blade, even in strong light.

In combat, En-Nebi is treated as a +1 vicious punch dagger. As it strikes, the extra damage from the vicious property manifests as if a great cat’s claws had cruelly raked the victim’s flesh. While this effect can be unnerving, the consequences for the katar’s wielder are even worse: if he confirms a critical hit with the weapon, he must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or contract a form of lycanthropy, becoming a Katapeshi wereleopard lycanthrope.

Easily twice the size of common leopards, Katapeshi leopards are infamous for their savagery. Now extremely rare, these massive creatures once ranged from Nex to Thuvia (same stats as tigers). Treat Katapeshi wereleopard lycanthropes as chaotic evil weretigers. (That's the original, by force of will Silena has got some semblance of control over her were-self and is only CE if she wants to act that way!)

Construction
Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armour, bestow curse, summon monster IV; Cost 5,151 gp, 412 XP

At the far side there's a ladder leading up to a walkway on the level above.

By the way, Barret's clothing is also damaged, mostly large discoloured splotches but it's been eaten through in places.

Why not have Barezata and Hijiro go into partnership in running a business and connecting with the underbelly of town?

Silena, you can do administration and start a dojo/training centre for warriors if you like.

Sonya is welcome to get the church up and running again (thought you would!).

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I think we can see some added wealth turning up... or at least some tasty magic items for everyone. What would everyone like? Put together a wish list and we'll see...

Hijiro, you may retool with the Rogue Unchained rules if you want. Guess I'd better read them :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

He's looked better :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I am delighted that you wish to continue :) It will be my pleasure...

Now then, the next book begins about a year later. Of course, you don't have to wait a year before we play it! You do get to level up, and you may each choose to concentrate on one focus in or around Kelmarane which msy well grant you a benefit in the future.

Options include: -

Administration: The person choosing this option befriends Garavel and gains Almah's absolute trust. This gains them the personal notice of the Pactmasters of Katapesh, a boon that will come into play in a later adventure :)

Business: Anyone choosing this option opens a business in Kelmarane. This is easiest if the business is located in the battle market, which soon draws traffic from the northern trade routes, but you can choose to set it up wherever you wishes. Over the year, a battle market business returns 3,000 gp worth of profit. A business situated elsewhere in Kelmarane brings in 1,500 gp.

Church of Sarenrae: The individual chosing this receives the rank of Abbot-Protector of Kelmarane's Sarenraen community, and is treated as an authority second only to the high priest, who soon arrives from the coast. Furthermore, you are given one of the relics from area D3 as a reward for his devotion.

Crime: If anyone wants to delve into the murkier side of life, they befriend the surviving smugglers, Undrella, and any crooked merchants who arrive with the first wave of settlers, gaining information on the criminal network of Katapesh that will come in handy in a future adventure. (Note that this does not necessarily mean that you are a criminal yourself, just that you associate with them. Or you may turn to crime if that's what you want!)

Explore Personal Mystery: If you choose this option, you spend the off-year focusing on a personal mystery. I shall answer any one question that you have about your past or fate, or tailor a special campaign segment featuring this mystery. You may do this via PM if preferred.

You may have ideas of your own how you want to fill the year, try to come up with a similar activity to the above.

But finally - do we have a Mouldspeaker? This particular role dates back to the exploration of the monastery and, to be honest, I cannot recall if the character in question is still playing! This will become important later on in the AP, so if whoever it was has gone (or nobody can remember...) I shall ask for a volunteer :)

Thank you all for playing so far.

Graxer's remains are where you left them, seemingly undisturbed.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There is a lot of splashing and scrabbling, but eventually Barret gets hauled out of the vat.

"The weather here has been good of late, a few showers but nothing to disturb the rooftiles," said Oleg. Taking a big knife, he carved the roast boar and served all those who wanted it. Saji declined.

Sinon, after ensuring everyone had a full mug of ale, passed around plates of vegetables - peas, purple beans, moon radish mash, potatoes and carrots. Saji took plenty of those!

"One priest of Erastil has arrived, who says he has heard that there is a shrine hereabouts. He is old and partially-sighted, though, so possibly not really Guardian material," said Svetlana. "He is at the transit camp at the moment, ministering to the people there and awaiting an escort to the shrine. He says he'd like to see out his days there, but also that he would recruit an acolyte, to 'be his eyes' as he puts it."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Svetlana is presiding over quite a feast, clearly delighted to have the Guardians back at the trading post.

Once you are seated and served she asks what your plans are.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Certainly... The vast grotto seems much as you left it, the air is cool and the underground fungal garden looks as beautiful as ever (particularly as no pesky critters pester you as you pass through.

Do you wish to do anything here or continue on up the iron spiral staircase to the garden room above?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK. Kardswann has regained his senses and is absolutely mortified at what the demon forced him to do. He stoically asks forgiveness for his actions, and says that he must take leave of Kelmarane to notify his mistress, the djinni princess Nefeshti, of events here.

The Lady Almah is delighted at what you have accomplished. As reward, she not only pays you what is due, but grants you the Wharfmaster's Manor (B5) and the title "Knight Protector of Kelmarane".

She also wants your advice: Umdrella has taken a liking to you (and to her new cleaned-up self!) and has asked to stay in the Tannery and continue her alchemical experiments. Almah wants to know if this is a good idea...?

This concludes Book 1 of the Adventure Path.

Are you interested in continuing?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There's lots of circles in the martial arts... I suddenly realised that in the middle of a judo class, although stopping sparring to say "It's all about circles isn't it?" landed me flat on the floor as well as earning a compliment from the sensei!

That was a fun class... when I joined the sensei asked if it would bother me to be the only female. He didn't mention that the others were not only male, they were large and considerably more experienced than I was! Learn fast or else. The sensei often used to demonstrate whatever he was teaching on me... and never quite got over the fact that any technique I was taught, I could do either handed as the opportunity presented itself.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Did she? Well, she intends to move there, so if she was there already or not... *waves hand*... she is now!

It appears that the Lady Almah is rather taken by the set-up in the Battle Market, and has taken her place on the throne balcony overlooking the arena. Her own people are stationed as door guards, and direct you up there to make your report.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Well, as you are all doing, er, whatever you are doing, Svetlana rings the dinner gong! Perhaps you'd better get over there before the roast boar gets cold...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The Lady Almah is still in residence at the monastery, as far as you know.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

It happens I'd been reading about silat recently, that's how come it turned out to be Saji's style. Haven't heard of Baguazhang, looks interesting... must delve.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

If you search the remains, you find an amulet of mighty fists +1, and a ring of protection +2.

What do you want to do now?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Well, Saji is talking now...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Excellent writing, if I may say so...

When Lothar stops and bows namaste, Saji ceases her dance and bows in similar style, except just one hand is upright in the classic pose with the other one cupping it. She raises her eyebrows then cracks a grin.

"I had not expected one with which to spar as I practiced my kembangan, for your contributions I thank you. Under which guru did you train? Your style is one unfamiliar to me."

She then smiles at Barnabus.

"Your pardon, I did not intend to ignore or slight you. I come from a jungle land far from here, which is where I learned my art. Now I travel to see the world and to learn from it and of it."

That's lovely, thank you so much; but I'm really after the book cover as it would appear if I had a copy. Could anyone with the PDF version do a screen shot of the cover please?

That demon is well and truly dead now :)

Dillan's struggling and cannot lift Barrat on his own. Poor Barrat is flailng around and cannot get a purchase to lever himself out.

The mongrelmen are laughing at the sight and do not seem disposed to help!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

In his prowls, Lothar comes across Saji performing something that appears a cross between a martial arts kata (form) and a dance. She's very graceful and extremely supple!

Sinon is delighted at your reception of his latest brew and speaks of plans to deliver barrels to the new settlement. A fellow who passed through here a few days ago, an elf called Garrard, expressed a desire to set up a tavern there but said that he is no more than a workmanlike brewer (being better at distilling spirits) and would prefer to have some good ale to offer!

Another new arrival is a herbalist called Digby Heathcote. An unlikely-looking settler, he's nearsighted and walks with a limp. He says that he is researching the use of sap from a shambling mound, which he believes is effective in cultivating some of the herbs he wishes to grow, and he is looking for some adventurous types to acquire some for him... he's willing to pay. He's waiting for the next caravan to head to the settlement, he intends to set up business there.

A tall blond fellow called Jon has taken up residence here. At the moment he's working as a stable-hand but has expressed an interest in learning how to cook.

The barge appears to be in a seaworthy state... but as Ashe stands at the edge of the dock looking at it, there is some turbluence in the water as something large and eel-like with a row of bright red spines running down the length of its back reacts to his presence. It does not emerge, however... do you all wish to proceed to D18 as specified?

Barret takes another 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage... but does manage to grab the rope, even if it was a wild swipe!

Dillan - DC20 Strength Check to haul him up, please. There's enough room for one other person to assist... if they can get there. Is that you, Sorin? Or are you busy with your life link?

Liberty's Edge

I did! But I'm back now.

Liberty's Edge

As you attempt to figure out what is going on here, you notice that each of the pillars has a terrible attendant... some kind of giant undead elephant, they look like. Each is chained to one of the pillars, where they stand motionless and silent.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Back now... did you behave yourselves?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I'm back now and have enjoyed reading what you lot have posted :)

Liberty's Edge

Oleg is delighted to see you arrive, and Simon comes out with mugs of his latest ale... a refreshing brew with a hint of citrus flavour. He says that there have been quite a few colonists through, most farmers and craftspeople looking for places to settle and ply their trades. There is also a human monk called Saji, a tall woman who says that she is on a pilgrimmage, following a winding path.

Would anyone happen to have a decent square-on image of the cover? I'm updating the Paizo section on RPG Resource, and have managed to find images of all the other recent books but not this one... really hate the squint product-shots used for the last few books!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The doors are neither magical nor trapped. Beyond them, a vast cavern stretches into the shadows, the true extent of its area difficult to discern due to a thick maze of wooden timbers that rises up to support the roof. A ledge winds along the eastern and northern sides of the cave, with the floor dropping away to a depth of thirty feet. Four immense stone pillars support the ceiling ten feet above. Where these pillars connect to the ceiling, a network of wooden braces and timbers radiate out in a wheel shape, forming four forty-foot-wide discs flush against the roof. Dozens of chains hang down from these beams to attach to the pillars themselves, many of which are decorated with rows and rows of bells. The lowest 10 feet of the area are left quite open to give the chamber's denizens plenty of room to toil. Above the 10-foot-mark, though, a creature can move through this room on these tangled wooden beams with a DC 10 Climb check.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ooops. Oh dear, poor Barret. You have fallen into a vat of bleach! You take 1d6 points of acid damage per round of immersion, and must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or be blinded for 1d6 minutes. Climbing out of the vats requires a DC 25 Climb check.

So, you take 1d6 ⇒ 6 points of damage, and need to scramble out. If you fail, you will take more damage. (It would have been worse if you'd fallen into a vat of acid, believe me!)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Sounds good to me if the rest of the party is happy with you. Welcome aboard!

I might suggest that the Order of Red Sands has got wind of the Stolen Lands being opened up for colonisation and has sent Jirani on a mission to spread the word and aid the settlers... so he'll probably turn up at Oleg's Trading Post as a starting point.

Liberty's Edge

Neolandus and Vencarlo are delighted to be reunited. There are no other prisoners, and Neolandus does not recognise the picture Edmund is showing around.

Detecting neither evil nor magic, Ashe opens the door revealing a small room. A narrow bed, stool, and table are this room's sole furnishings - none appear to have been used in some time.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Welcome, Devon.

I'm pretty open as to what you choose to play.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The mongrelman points across the chamber towards a ladder that leads to a walkway above...

If you recall the original description, this chamber occupies a whole side of the building, from the cellar level below up to the roof high above. Seven iron vats, each ten feet across, occupy the majority of the room. Furnaces fuel the vats at cellar level, while at the ground floor level a series of planks have been laid across the vats to allow passage to a ladder that leads to an iron walkway on the level above. Two ladders also allow access from the planks to the floor below. The air in the chamber is cloying and acidic.

You will have to make your way across the planks to get to the ladder. They are at a height of about 15 feet or so above the floor of the chamber, level with the entrance from the yard you've come in by. The planks between the vats are 10 inches wide and a DC 10 Acrobatics check is required to cross them. (I shall be kind, and just ask for a single check to get you over to the ladder.)
