Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barezata kills one gnoll outright (Gnoll #3). Gnoll #1 attacks him with a spear - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9.

T'other two go for Silena.

Gnoll #2 - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Gnoll #4 - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Silena, Gnoll #4 is the closest, but your chain misses him.

Next round's actions and rolls please!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, what do you outside the Cymic Works want to do?

At the mill, the woman at the door doesn't seem very interested in Barret.

"So, you some kind of Beast-lover? We saw what we saw and we'll be saying so at Court!"

Liberty's Edge

Round 1

The rakshasa gets to his feet and raises one arm, snarling as lightning streaks from his outstretched hand straight at Lucia!

Lightning bolt, does 7d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 4, 4, 1, 1) = 20 damage, Reflex save DC16 for half-damage.

Lucia meanwhile carves up the other cobra very efficiently!

Ebon Wings hangs back keeping a sharp eye on the statures, which do not seem disposed to join in the fight.

Ashe passes off his wand to Majenko and charges straight at the rakshasa dealing a mighty blow with Dauntless Heart, hitting him squarely. Blood spurts and the rakshasa snarls...

And on to round 2, actions and rolls if you please.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The gate appears to be barred from the inside.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You have, you will be glad to hear, surprise.

Surprise Round

Lucia is first off the mark, and decapitates one of the snakes without further ado!

Ebon Wings then lets fly with his magicks, which seems to startle and stagger the rakshasa, who'd just raised his head to wail at the sudden demise of one of his beloved pets.

Then Ashe steps in with his glitterdust wand. The rakshasa looks confused... nothing invisible is revealed, though. The other snake rears up, spreading its hood (it is a cobra) and hisses loudly.

And I'd better roll some initiatives...

Rakshasa: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Remaining cobra: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

OK, on to the first round. Actions & rolls please.

At the mill

"Yes, we are. We have been asked to give evidence in the Beast's trial. Who are you and what is your interest?"

At the Cymic Works

Tre'duinne, after some thought you realise that the creature is actually a flesh golem in dog shape.

Dillan, you scrabble a bit but find the wall does not offer sufficient purchase for you to get up it.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe, there is one evil being within the chamber ahead.

And you open the door... Four lit braziers illuminate this vast chamber, a cathedral-like space made all the more immense by its lack of benches or other concessions to comfort. The floor is polished tan marble, with the walls rising up to form a domed ceiling sixty feet above. Alcoves line these walls, six in all, inside of which stand human-sized statues of a tiger-headed man. To the south, a few steps lead up to a pulpit-like area with three more statues of the same figure — the central one being twice as tall and holding out before him two lances from which hang flags. The left is the flag of Korvosa, while the right bears the coat of arms of the Arkonas.

Over to the left, a rakshasa (in his native form) is sitting on the floor with 2 very large snakes. One has just shed its skin, and the three of them appear to be dividing it up and eating it!

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ah yes, Barret is off hunting witnesses... eventually he finds the windmill, which seems in good repair. There are lights inside and (assuming he knocks) a woman opens the door.

"Good evening, can I help you?" she says. You can hear other female voices behind her, talking about baking and cake toppings or some such.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

At the bottom of the vast cavern, a single wooden pier extends out into a gently sloshing pool of sea water. A shallow-draft barge is docked at the pier, a single unlit lantern hanging from its bow. Supporting timbers and brickwork line parts of the lower edge of the cave to the west and south, showing where the original sea cave has been artificially expanded. To the north, a twenty-five-foot-wide waterway provides an aquatic exit from the cave — the distant, muted sounds of the surf echo down from that direction.

The whole place seems quiet and deserted, the water lapping gently. Ashe inspects the single door, he cannot hear anyone beyond it, nor detect them magically.

Moving over towards the double doors, Lucia can hear someone moving around beyond.

Liberty's Edge

Each has +1 chainmail, a scimitar, and a spiked +1 light steel shield.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, so Barezata is joining in. Silena, will you attack this round?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

A twenty-foot-high stone wall, topped with broken glass, surrounds a small courtyard before the workshop. A heavy oak gate bars entry beneath a sign proudly proclaiming 'Vorkstag and Grine, Chymic Works.' A bell hangs by one side of the gate.

There is something prowling in the courtyard. Dog-sized, but it doesn't sound like one.

Dillon cannot detect any traps on the gate, although it is barred from the inside.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Taking the time to look around, there isn't anything to be found until you reach sea level. There, you find that there's a rough jetty and a couple of doors - one set of double doors to the south and a single door on the north.

Rather scruffy map - sorry, they didn't anticipate wanting to show players what's there, it seems :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Gnoll #1 initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Gnoll #2 initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Gnoll #3 initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Gnoll #4 initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 6

Round 1

Two of the gnolls seem particularly quick off the mark and rush forwards to attack Silena.

Gnoll #3 is first, poking at her with a spear - attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Gnoll #1 is not far behind, also with a spear. Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Then Silena spins into action, pushing past these two to the centre of the room in an attempt to embroil the other two in combat.

They're quite happy to oblige and raise their spears as well.

Gnoll #2 - attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Gnoll #4 - attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

OK - next round actions and rolls, please. Anyone else coming to play?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There are four gnolls in C12, flipping coins and looking thoroughly bored. They are, however, alert enough to notice Silena peeking in and they get up, reaching for weapons as they do so.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Map - the map is not well presented for showing to players, alas.

Three rope ladders descend even deeper into the cave, connecting three progressively lower ledges on the wall until finally reaching a stony protrusion at ground level. This protrusion rises from a rocky beach overlooking the sloshing waters of a sea cave.

You can get down there without difficulty.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There's a back entrance by the bins... but it's locked.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

No wolf has been this way for a while, as far as Rhasadilara can tell.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Nobody in C11 at all, apart from a stray cat which hisses at the pair of you, Silena.

Kardswann laughs.

"But I am running this place as a thriving trading centre, girl! Look around you. Stalls selling wares. Men taking their ease in a tavern. Traders coming and going... or is it just that none of the profits are coming your way, or that of whoever you serve?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The earth opens up, seeming to grasp Graxer in its arms (did it but have arms!) and takes him deep into its embrace.

Nosoi pops briefly off someplace only psychopomps know and comes back again radiating satisfaction - I have arranged for a rapid pick-up of Graxer's soul his whisper can be heard.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Well?" says Kardswann (who is up in C15, by the way).

"So what do you want to do on behalf of your peeved godling, girlie?"

There are a few snickers from assorted gnolls and others hanging around.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe: the new ladies are not of the evil persuasion.

Lucia: you cannot detect Ashe's alignment, neutral-ish, maybe?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OOC: I'm sorry but I've completely lost the picture, so I am going to wave my hands a bit...

The strange skeletal creatures have been dropped, liberally peppered with arrows/bolts. Nosoi detects strange spirits - djinn? - streaking away, released as the creatures fall.

Silence falls...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Refresh the page... the numbers are there now. The original image was extraced from the PDF & I hadn't noticed it came without numbers (you're quite right there about how it's done), the new version is a screenshot of the page...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Have you been hovering looking for me?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The place is all shut up. There does seem to be someone inside but you cannot make out what they are doing.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

(Tracks are of a single animal, the worg, not the whole pack.)

It's a good day for tracking, a few traces of mist and a bit overcast but very still.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Map updated with numbers, sorry about that!

You all seem to be doing a remarkable job of sneaking around... nobody has noticed you!

Please post where you are now (using the numbers).

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Sorry... still settling in. Think I'm about sorted now. Dearly beloved has treated me to a lovely little ultra-light laptop that I can use on the train to work, this should help some.

I shall now trundle off to the game thread and try to sort things out.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Your goddess is deluded," scoffs Kardswann. "If she cannot be bothered to defend her own temple, she can hardly complain if someone else moves in."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The streets are deserted. Apart from a few houses having a porch light there isn't much in the way of street lighting, but there is a full moon in a clear sky.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The worg has headed due north, the tracks of a determined animal with a specific destination in mind.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Do you want to track him, then?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The creatures appear to be fugal-infested (or animated?) rotting corpses, skeletal for the most part.

They turn towards you ladies as you come in firing... Someone downbelow is also firing arrows up at them.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Assuming you do go to the Cymic Works, you see that a tall, iron chimney belches yellow clouds into the sky from a small brick factory. Large leaded windows arch in a dozen places on its outer walls, but they are so begrimed as to be opaque. A large gate opens onto an inner courtyard beneath a sign proudly proclaiming "Vorkstag and Grine, Chymic Works." The building has two floors and a tower, topped by a lightning rod.

Despite the smoke (which smells acrid and quite vile) the place appears all shut up for the night.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

All is quiet for quite some time... and then the howling begins. Near and far, as if a conversation was being held. It doesn't stop til nearly dawn, but nobody comes near the camp.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barezata, you have a clear line of sight.

Kardswann looks down at Sonya in amazement.

"You WHAT???" he asks in confusion. He's definitely more puzzled than angry.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Lepidstadt map

Anyone can give you directions to the Chymic Works. It is by now evening and apart from inns the city's pretty much settled down for the night.

Sorin, the Courthouse is all closed up too.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ladies, you descend an iron-framed flight of spiral stairs which descend into a grotto ending on a semi-circular ledge. The air in this vast grotto is cool. The ledge winds down along the cavern’s inner wall to a series of rope bridges that descend even lower from ledge to ledge. The upper ledge, before it reaches the ropes, is a strangely breathtaking beauty — a garden of all manner of strangely colored fungi, lichens, and moulds. The fungi have been cultivated, shaped into all manner of symmetrical patterns normally not seen in nature, transforming the ledge into a sort of underground fungal garden. Here and there, flickering torches burn in sconces above the fungi, while from somewhere in the darkness below comes the soft splash of water against an unseen shore.

The scene is marred by a dead dwarf sprawled across the ground, with three strange fungi-encrusted skeletal beings standing over it.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The worg stands up with a snarl... then turns and lopes away northwards.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There were 2 zombies on the train home last night.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Yes, Sonya, so you have been told by Undrella.

Kardswann's save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Liberty's Edge

The Broad Face

The money vanishes swiftly.

"Right shoulder I think...

The Beast was wearing a shirt when you met him.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Newcomers

You have been directed to the Acoma residence. The place seems deserted as you look around. When you get to the indoor 'garden' your attention is caught by the secret passage in the central podium snapping shut. Having seen it, it is not too much of a challenge to figure out how to open it. Do you want to go on down?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

It was just happy to be helped out of the hole it was trapped in. Then it ran off.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The worg licks its chops.

"This is my territory. Any creature entering may be eaten, if it tastes good. Those remaining outside will be safe." It describes an area that is roughly the hex you are in at present.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The Broad Face

"Room and board, plus 10 gold a day for my trouble," says Lazne. "Course that will stop once I've given evidence. So's I be off home. Nothing else for me here, or there as regards this matter then."

You get the impression that he might like some more cash if he's to be helpful once he leaves here...

Karl's Cottage

"Vorkstag and Grine are a couple of alchemists. They have a 'Chymic Works' here in Lepidstadt, and are quite well-respected. Friends in high places, if you get my drift."

Herstag

The strange creature appears to be going house-to-house around the deserted village.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The battle market's four entry halls lead into a huge arena-like room dominated by a massive circular wooden stage, its surface smeared and sticky with blood. Two rows of terraced benches surround the stage, which is bathed in natural light from a large open circular hatch in the citadel's roof far above. Torches illuminate a darkened gallery of compact market stalls in the eastern half of the first floor's inner wall. A raised platform along the northwest curve of the inner wall sports four round tables, several wooden chairs, and a long bar stocked with numerous bottles of distilled spirits.

About twenty feet above is an open balcony, beyond which lie a series of small rooms on an upper floor of the market. Several rows of empty bleachers peer down from the edge of the balcony. Twenty feet above the second floor a half-circle balcony marks the highest of the citadel's terraces. Three thrones look down from this vantage, each positioned to give a commanding view of not only the stage below but the entire market.

A big fellow gets up from the centre throne and glowers down at you.

"I am Kardswann, Mouth of the Carrion King, Chieftain of the Kulldis Tribe and master of this village. Tell me, what business brings you to Kelmarane?" he booms down.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The Broad Face Inn

"The caiman's bite was the worst... we'd mostly got sticks and agricultural implements, like. The lawyer said stay here until tomorrow but then I could take yer, I suppose... he won't be paying me no more after then."

Karl's Cottage

Karl looks a bit uncomfortable.

"Um, yes, something like that. It sounded so plausible when the Doctor talked... and he meant well. He really did!"

Herstag

The crops have gone to seed and high corn grows everywhere, affecting visibility and providing concealment as light undergrowth. The village's farmhouses have all been abandoned, and while some furniture such as tables and washboards remain, the homes have been given over to termites and cockroaches unless otherwise indicated. In the northern portion of the village, the land turns to deep bog.

You spot several more bear traps in the undergrowth, but of course, there's always one you don't see...

Bear trap: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18, damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7

Maybe you were distracted by this strange creature you see flitting amongst the houses. Several small shapes follow it.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"I wish to range undisturbed. I have three wolves serving me as scouts and hunters," says the worg.

"Just keep away, find your own place somewhere else."
