Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

They follow, still muttering amongst themselves.

Liberty's Edge

Any chance of a 'square-on' cover shot instead of the wierd angled one?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Come back if/when you feel able to, you are always welcome at my table!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kundal has enormous feet, even given that he's a 'giant economy scale' fellow in general. He's nearly 7ft and wide-shouldered.

Liberty's Edge

Big hug, Silena. Take all the time you need.

May Heavenly Father receive your mother into paradise and comfort those of you remaining here on earth, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Oh, Ashe... take as long as you need. Be loved, be comforted... you and your mother will meet again on a further shore and in a greater light.

May Heavenly Father receive your mother into paradise and comfort those of you remaining here on earth, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Liberty's Edge

"We escaped..." began one, then another interrupted "We were slaves..".

Now they are all trying to explain at once and they seem to have forgotten they were hiding, they are making so much noise.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Calindar whispers back "Many things can be done to cure one so afflicted... as for me, if you know of something to settle the stomach, I'd be grateful. This settlement needs some practitioners of the healing arts, perhaps a herbalist.

Kundal, if anything, looks even more confused at Noriel's second assay to explain her intentions.

"If it will help... Wait! You think I might have been infected with the werewolves' curse? What will become of me?"

He looks close to tears... or panic.

Noriel:
You know that werewolves are vicious beasts, devoid of any saving graces whatsoever, and that once infected the only way to deal with them is to kill them stone dead! OOC: with a roll like that, what do you expect?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kundal looked confused.

"C...confinement? Observation? What do you mean? Would that help? It might, at least, ease my mind."

Calindar came out of the main keep, hair standing on end (classic case of bed head) and looking a bit wan.

"Sorry, I have had a stomach upset - I should know better to eat food not prepared by Dyfrig. Good to see you all again. But who is this?"

Meanwhile, Kundal looked at Lothar.

"Saki? Was that her name? I saw her there a couple of nights ago. Has she gone missing? Can I help?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

So sorry to hear of your loss, Jirani.

May Heavenly Father receive your loved one into paradise and comfort those of you remaining here on earth, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"In my bed... but there was blood, and mud..."

He looks really scared.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

As soon as the leopard appears there is an awful lot of screaming!

"We're going to die! It'll eat us!" and similar comments.

Transforming into a scantily-clad half-elf doesn't stop the screaming although at least they don't think they're going to be eaten now.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You reckon 'temporarily hiding' - there's no signs of anyone living there.

You fade out of sight and sneak further in, coming across five ragged and dirty humans, hiding on a set of partially buried stairs leading down. The lower portion of the staircase has been shored up with timbers and rocks. Trailing down the stairwell hangs a worn, knotted rope neatly tied around a nearby chunk of broken column.

One of them whispers "Do you think he's gone yet?" but is Shssshed by the others.

Liberty's Edge

It does look good... wish I could afford it! (Or at least, justify it!) I have the equivalent Rise of the Runelords book, on account of it being entered in the ENnies one year I was a judge, and enjoyed that one tremendously.

I can see how young Ashe is your alter ego on the tabletop. It's good when a character becomes that real, almost part of the family. They get under your skin to an extent that you don't need to think, you react - and when you think it through you realise that the reaction was spot on based on that character.

I remember in a Babylon 5 game in the middle of a brawl in Earthdome, a window got broken. My character went into almost panic, getting himself behind a door... when I thought about it, he'd been born and raised on a space habitat, broken windows meant air getting out! But I hadn't thought about it when I said what he was doing.

Kundal eyes Lothar warily.

"Never, Sir. I swear..."

Gorguk calls over a militiaman and sends him to find Calindar.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Several people, and they are somewhere inside the building.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kundal says "I am not much of a brawler unless there is good cause, Sir, although... I'm not certain if I can answer for everthing over the past couple of days. I drank too much, I admit it, and cannot remember everything that happened. I woke up in the night with blood on my hands, I'm scared that I may have hurt someone...."

He's looking a bit scared now.

Liberty's Edge

A glorious leopard slinks off towards structure A. (The troglodytes don't know whether to admire or fear the beast, and do both!).

Two small minarets guard the entrance of a low stone structure topped with the ruins of a small dome. Centuries of mountain winds have sand-blasted the western faces of the minarets to a smooth, polished finish, while the eastern sides facing the temple walls still bear illegible traces of ancient icons and calligraphy.

Silena's keen senses pick up the scent of human, sweaty and frightened human.

Liberty's Edge

The scouts come loping back in. One has caught a rabbit-like creature and is carrying it by the ears.

Ahalak goes over to Akina to show her his whistle. It is about six inches long and is played like a piccolo or flute.

"The sound carries well in the desert air," he explains. "About the only thing better is drumming, and drums are so inconvenient to carry."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Um...well..." Kundal looks embarrassed. "Just incoherent images of fighting and biting and blood."

Gorguk looks concerned.

"Have you been involved in any brawls lately?" he asks.

Noriel, Kundal is remaining obdurately human, but you do notice that he is holding his hands as if they were claws, flexing them as if about to attack. The rest of his posture, however, seems relaxed and non-combatant.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Have fun!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ahalak takes out a small wooden whistle and plays a complex series of notes.

"That should bring our scouts back. We shall stand guard in turns tonight, to allow you to sleep. Do you need assistance pitching tents or preparing your food?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, go on then...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Lothar is correct, it's about midday.

Gorguk comes over to you.

"Ah, is this the man you were talking about? We can always use good men in the militia. Do you have any military experience?" he asks.

Kundal blinks a little owlishly, then responds, "No Sir, not directly. But I am good with the longbow and can organise a hunt. I am strong and I am willing to learn. Sorry about my appearance, I tried to drown some bad dreams in strong drink. Didn't work. Won't happen again."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The day wears on, and the sun eventually burns its way down to the horizon. Darkness falls swiftly and it begins to get cold.

"Is your mission urgent or can we stop for the night?" asks Ahalak.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The moon is full tonight.

Lothar, you don't think he's trying to hide anything but he does sound fairly confused.

You arrive at the fort where Gorguk is waiting.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Calm down. Rather fraught weekend. Safe back at work now.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Jirani - you sense a 'taint' - the man is basically good, but...

Kundal says "It was maybe five days' travel to the north. I don't remember much of the attack. I was asleep... but I've been having terrible dreams about blood and fury, that's why I've been drinking more than is good for me. I need to get sorted out... Maybe a steady job will help, but who can heal bad dreams?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Shahin smiles gently.

"I live to serve, Mistress, you know that."

She gets back to work, setting up the camp methodically then settling to the scroll-scribing. That done, she starts to clean and tidy the area preparatory to the spell work that is to be done.

Meanwhile, Barazeta - are you heading out to scout as requested?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kundal seems a bit unsteady on his feet, but makes his way willingly towards the fort.

"I don't have any folks, Warden," he says. "They died in a wolf attack on the way here. It's just me now. Unless I find a nice lady and, well, start over."

Noriel: You notice that his fingernails are dirty.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Shahin sets to work immediately - although she finds that the troglodytes won't help as soon as they find out who she worships (they asked).

"We's followers of Sarenrae now, we!" they declare proudly.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Um.. yes... yes I did... er, pleased to meet you," Kundal mumbles with a rather beery belch.

"Pardon me, ma'am."

There's something a bit... off. Is it the smell? There's something... animal... under the general booze and (I regret to say) neglect of personal hygiene. Or is it just that he could do with a good scrubbing?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Um, yesss... we guard, keep gnolls out. Nasty creatures." comes the reply.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The man nods.

{b]"Mn... yes... Sorry, I am not at my best. I haven't been sleeping well and tried drinking to help. Didn't work. Now I'm drunk or hungover and still tired. No real advertisment for looking for work."

As he talks he begins to focus a bit more.

"Of course I will come and see Warden Gorguk. Appreciate it. Really."

He sounds a bit muddled and confused but quite amenable.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Now back... poor Sonya. Hope you feel better soon.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I am now back... so, what's up, Akina? Hope you feel better soon.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, these doors do open, to a long hall which ends at a curved wall to the east where a brace of heavily barricaded double doors blocks further passage. Before the door stands a haphazardly constructed bunker of rubble and mud brick. Seven troglodytes stand with their backs towards you, weapons to hand, obviously guarding the barred doors ahead of them.

A head turns, teeth bared but showing confusion. A startled noise brings other heads around, and javelins are raised...

... then one of the troglodytes who has just converted to Sarenrae barges past Silena.

"Is Okie-dokie. Is friends," he gasps out. The javelins lower.

"They bring new religion. Nice one. We joined."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ahalak looks impressed.

"You are quite the song-smith, Grey Eagle."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The damp - no, dripping wet - fellow blinks at you and then hiccoughs loudly.

"Um. Excuse me," he mumbles. "What do you want? Is it about a job?"

Liberty's Edge

I am going to Marrakech 20-27 September, don't expect to get online...

I think I messed things up. Rooms C1-C5 are at ground level, Rooms C6-C11 are underground beneath them.

The door at the east end of C5 is really odd when you take a closer look. It has been turned to stone and melded with the wall, and so does not open! (The magically-inclined would suspect a stone shape spell was used.)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The day slowly wears on, starting hot and getting hotter...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Kundal? That's him." A thumb is jerked towards the fellow having an improptu shower.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ahalak nods.

"She-who-paints, no?"

Liberty's Edge

The 'tavern' is a large tent with a makeshift bar at one end. There's little custom this early in the day, but one fellow is wiping down tables and generally tidying up.

"Morning, what'll it be?" he says automatically when you come in.

Over in the far corner a large man is engaged in pouring a bucket of water over his own head.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ahalak listens in growing wonder to the conversation.

"So, Grey Eagle, Pharas, The Walker, The Brave Cookie Who Knows It Not... names about which legends will be woven some day, no doubt. If it becomes right to bestow a name on any of us, that will become apparent... some take a name for themselves, others are given them. It does not matter."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Billy-bob returns, saying that he has found Kundal drunk at a makeshift tavern (it's a tent, really) that's sprung up in town. Apparently when he arrived he was a hard worker, but the past few days he seems to have dived into the bottom of a tankard! When asked to come and see Gorguk, he apparently swore, tried to stand up, fell over and was sick.
