Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Whoever is up there does not appear to be in any hurry to come down, Graxar. But he's still there, shifting around.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Nathan nodded.

"Of course, Guardian Surital. I can encourage those who are interested in volunteering... what benefits can they be offered?"

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Oh.. sorry. I'll describe it for you now... got confused as you said 'Library' and now want D8! (D7 is the Library)

D8, then, appears to be a smoking den. A long couch and two stuffed chairs sit around an elegant rug on the floor of this room, the walls of which are carved in depictions of air spirits cavorting in the clouds. The scent of strange and exotic smoke lingers in the air, and four bejeweled hookahs sit in the room, two at either end of the couch, and one next to each chair. A flight of stairs leads up to the floor above, and a glass case built into the underside of these stairs displays a wide collection of cigars, pottery jars, and bundles of dried leaves in a range of colours.

The glass case emanates magic, perhaps it is trapped in some way? No evil is present (unless you are an anti-smoking campaigner!).

Andoran

The high–ceilinged workshop/library is lined with mostly empty shelves, and a trio of great leaded windows looks out over the university lawn. A staggering array of books, scrolls, maps, and curios, including shrunken heads, tribal masks, and bits of pottery, lie scattered all over the floor, apparently pulled from the shelves. The room is otherwise crowded with overturned tables, desks, and cabinets.

As mentioned earlier, despite the mess in the workshop, you notice that one area in the room appears to be untouched, in stark contrast to the damage seen elsewhere in the department. Indeed, the pedestal that once held the Seasage Effigy is crowded with small fetishes and delicate mother-of-pearl fish carvings that are undamaged. The workshop's windows have clearly not been opened for many years, as evidenced by the build-up of grime around them. However, the centre window, though now shut, has no such grime.

Sorin reckons Mayson is telling the truth about the windows, and when pressed he confirms that the window was shut when the guards arrived to capture the Beast. He goes over to demonstrate, and isn't able to budge them. However, observing closely, Dillon can see that it has been opened recently and reckons that it just needs a lot of force - poor Mayson just isn't strong enough!

Mayson says that the Beast came in the back door and went through the auditorium to get here to the workshop - but it was only here that it made a mess. What would you like to inspect yet?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Er no... we don't open these windows. Actually I think they're all stuck," says Mayson.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe, the library is exactly as you left it.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Graxer, you can hear footsteps approaching the top of the stairs...

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Suddenly, the door of the Gatehouse flies open and half-a-dozen hyenas rush out, yipping and sniffing around. As soon as they spot the party, they run towards you...

If you want to fight them, it's initiative time! Please also state your actions & make necessary rolls.

Andoran

In the workshop one area appears to be untouched, in stark contrast to the damage seen elsewhere in the department. The workshop's windows have clearly not been opened for many years, as evidenced by the build-up of grime around them. However, the centre window, though now shut, has no such grime.

Mayson confirms that nothing else has been taken, just the Seasage Effigy. He asks if you want to see the door by which the Beast entered or the route it took once in the building.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Yes, Guardian Goldenbough. We can get together later to look at your maps. There are some flat areas to the north-east of here that might be suitable, not sure if there is sufficient water, though. Need to check," said Nathan.

Sinon came round with a jug of ale, offering refills.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"I think he was studying it," said Mayson. "The note says that if any discovery is made or new information unearthed, he would like to be informed."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Varrel, you think there is conditional magic - perhaps indeed magic mouths - on the statures, but whatever their trigger might be, they haven't gone off yet.

No elephants, Ashe.

D11 is indeed a banqueting hall. A magnificent mahogany table dominates this room, the surface of which is decorated with an immense cover fashioned from the brightly colored skins of various great snakes.

There's magic on the double doors leading out into the palace grounds, but nowhere else in the room.

Graxer, are you still lurking on the stairs?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

D10... A gracefully curving wall lined with tall windows presents a commanding view of the western palace grounds. The room itself is empty save for three human-sized statues, each depicting a Vudran warrior holding aloft a glittering blue-green javelin with a head carved from bloodstone.

All three statues give off magic auras, but there is no trace of evil.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Who is approaching the Gatehouse? Would they please make Stealth checks (I have noted Silena's already).

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Yes, I can do that," says Nathan steadily. "Provided Master Oleg is happy. Settlers can come to trade, or to sample Sinon's ale, but they'll have to camp elsewhere. I'll scope out a suitable location and get the folks here moving..."

Oleg still looks grumpy but nods. Svetlana takes over. "That should do nicely," she says.

Andoran

"Show them the catalogue entry," directs Crowl and Mayson hauls out a ledger, flipping through it.

"Ah, here we are. It weighs 3 pounds, carved from some unknown green stone, and depicts a seven-legged octopoid figure with a horribly grinning face. We haven't yet determined its origin or who the figure is supposed to be. It always creeped me out."

Mayson gets a disapproving look from Crowl at that last statement.

"Hardly a scientific assessment, Mayson. You can do better than that, m'boy. I have a meeting with the Dean, look after these good fellows if you please." Crowl bids you farewell and hurries off with a worried look on his face.

Mayson looks up from the ledger. "Wait..." he calls out, but Crowl has gone. He looks to you all. "There's an additional note that Dean Viaccari is interested in this artefact. If you are interested in it, he may be able to tell you more."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe, the weapons in the northern display case consist of six masterwork punching daggers, two masterwork sais, two masterwork sianghams, a dozen masterwork daggers, a masterwork falchion, two masterwork spears, and a +1 ghost touch kama. The suit of leather is a suit of +2 light fortification studded leather.

OK, where next?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"It is apparently capable of speech," says Crowl. "Do please look around if you are interested. Me, I stick to ancient mysteries. Newton Mayson here, one of my students, can show you around."

A young half-elf is indicated, he has dark curly hair and rather thread-bare clothing.

"The Beast left quite a trail," Mayson says. "It appears that it broke in through the back door, then passed through the main auditorium to the workshop where the Seasage Effigy was kept. When the alarm was raised, the guards arrived to find the Beast basically rampaging around the workshop, smashing stuff up. What would you like to see first?"

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"My pleasure," says Svetlana, sitting down and helping herself to a hearty portion.

Oleg glares.

"This place is so full of people that I cannot hear myself think! And they aren't even just passing through, they're STOPPING here and expecting to be told where to go. Svetlana has promised to box my ears if I tell them where I want them to go..."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"To be honest, I think they were more interested in having caught the Beast than anything else. You're welcome to have a look around if you want, but bear in mind that some clearing up has already taken place. We haven't recovered the statue yet, but if it turns up anywhere it should be spotted - it's quite distinctive," says Crowl.

Sorry, misspoke earlier regarding recovery of the statue: at one point the AP says it's been found, later on it says it's still missing...

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Nathan pauses to pour some water over himself, and then follows you lot back to the trading post.

Svetlana is just dishing up some stew and Sinon is broaching a barrel of ale. Oleg is already sitting at the table with a pile of scraps of paper - apparently his rather disorganised attempts at keeping records.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, thanks Varrel.

As stated, this gruesome display shows a stuffed tiger feeding upon a very realistic sculpture of a dead Vudran man. The tiger was once a real beast, but is now stuffed with sawdust. The human it's depicted as disemboweling looks realistic, but is nothing more than a wax sculpture. The body's exposed heart, though, is in fact a large carved bloodstone... and it is this which is emanating magic, it's another third eye bloodstone.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Thank you Graxer... a lovely image of an inpatient dwarf tapping his foot as he waits for the others :)

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The Watch Guardhouse (B9): You've been told that a gnoll ranger accompanied by a pack of hyenas dwells within this intact gatehouse, which includes a sturdy bridge overlooking the road up the hill toward the battle market and ruined church. There's a big statue of Sarenrae with a trumpet held to Her lips on a huge pillar that abuts the guardhouse - perhaps that was used to sound an alarm in time of attack?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"The Seasage Effigy? I am unsure of where the statuette originally came from, but I do know it's been part of the department's collection for many years. Physically, the effigy is a murky green statuette depicting a grotesque creature writhing with tentacles. I must admit that I found the effigy fascinating, as it appeared to be an anomaly, an idol of some sort that did not seem to correlate to the worship of any known divine being. I privately suspect that the statuette depicts something only whispered of in the ancient legends of Golarion - some sort of creature from the mysterious Dark Tapestry, but I have no evidence for that so it's not an idea I admit to in public," says Crowl, dropping into lecture mode.

"As for the creature being mad, why, the poor thing cannot explain its presence here, claims in was alseep in a swamp and the next thing it knows it was being led away in chains. The guards found it thrashing around, smashing anything it could see."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Sorry, Varrel, what are you looking at?

The paintings in the library - which appear to be Salvator's work and which are extremely disturbing? Or the statue, over which you have just chucked a curtain, to cover the third eye bloodstone?

Graxer, are you waiting for Ashe and the rest or charging on regardless?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"The item that was taken was a strange statuette called the Seasage Effigy. I am quite frankly baffled by this - the statuette was very singular, but it was hardly valuable. Oh well, at least it has been recovered, but I doubt the poor creature can explain its actions, it seems quite mad," Crowl says.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Just Graxer or are others going upstairs?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"You haven't heard? It was the Beast that broke in - hardly the most likely place for a monster to want to raid, one would have thought - and trashed the place. Not that he stole much, just the one item," said Crowl.

"Still, it ought to be back in order soon."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Lorrimor is dead?" says Crowl, evidently surprised. "My, that is sad news. Thank you so much for bringing me the books... although the place is in such a mess that I'm not sure where I can put them!"

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Indeed, Nilus, few of the would-be colonists seem to be soldier material. A few look as if they could hold their own in a bar room brawl, but little more than that.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe, evil presences upstairs, none on the ground floor.

D9 appears to be a trophy hall. Glass cases line the north and south walls of this hallway. To the north is displayed a wide collection of exotic weapons, many of which resemble swords, spears, or starknives, hanging on the wall around a suit of bright blue leather and ivory armour. To the south is a somewhat gruesome display of a stuffed tiger feeding upon a very realistic sculpture of a dead Vudran man.

Nobody is in here, but there is magic emanating from the display of weapons and armour. Oh, and from the display of the tiger at lunch.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Even Jengren doesn't find anything. The place is in reasonable condition and would not need much work to make it a very comfortable home.

The stables at B4 are connected by a short passageway to the next building (B3). There is evidence of someone having been living here - it's where Felliped had been hiding until he saw you lot camping in the churchyard and risked sneaking over to see who you were.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The place is indeed in good condition, and boasts no inhabitants larger than a spider (ordinary house-spider size, put down that Bestiary!).

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There is no magic in the room. The door opens to reveal a rather harassed-looking fellow in a black gown, balding but what hair he has is long and a bit unkempt.

"You're not the builders!" he says, then smiles. "Do tell me you've come about antiquities. I'm fed up with builders. Montagnie Crowl. How can I be of service?"

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"Yes... yes... come in!" says a slightly flustered sounding voice.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

It will be appropriate for everyone (that wants to) to meet up...

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Nothing magical, no signs of recent intrusion or habitation... the place looks long-deserted.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

B5, the Wharfmaster's Manor, is a handsome, three-story mansion with a splendid view of Kelmarane's dock and the tannery and mill across the river. It is in a good state of repair, unlike most of the buildings here, but does not appear to be in use.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The place is a hive of activity with builders and other craftsmen all over the place.

Eventually you come to a door with "Doctor Montagnie Crowl, Head of Antiquities" painted on it.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

When you arrive at the university, you are greeted by the sight of several builders and craftsman working to repair damage to the builiding to which you are directed, the Antiquities Department.

The porter at the gate says "You'll spot Doctor Crowl easily enough, he's an eccentric but likeable man, he is prone to waving his arms about enthusiastically... he's well known in town, particularly in light of the recent theft from his department that famously led to the capture of the dreaded Beast of Lepidstadt, who now sits on trial. Have you been to see it yet? I'm going tomorrow, it's my day off."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Hilda looks a little surprised.

"Why would I travel with anyone else? None of my friends wish to colonise, they are comfortably settled where they are. It is not as if I am ill: this is a natural condition." She pats her belly contentedly.

Andoran

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Well done. The furthest I have got is Book 3 of an AP (that's Curse of the Crimson Throne) so far. Legacy of Fire, well you are the 3rd party I've tried with this and you have got the furthest... one lot burned down the monastery!

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Without knowing who the deity is, how can you tell if it's evil or not? A statue is a thing, it doesn't have an alignment! Mind you, it doesn't look very nice...

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Oddly enough, I was thinking it was about time you lot levelled... so...

*PING!*

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ashe, you think it may be a Vudran deity, perhaps one with an affinity to animals.

Varrel, the gem appears to be a third eye bloodstone.

Ebon Wings, there is an outsider presence... several, probably above on the upper floor.

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"It's already started, friend," says the guard, who is sounding a bit more friendly now. "First day was yesterday. They detailed a long list of crimes against the Beast, three of which are to be used as the basis of its execution — burned alive in the Punishing Man, a giant pyre that is even now being raised outside the courthouse! If you have time once you have met your obligations, you should take a look."

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Graxer sneaks off towards D7. He opens the door to find himself in a library. Two floor-to-ceiling bookshelves decorate the south and west walls of this chamber, facing a curved north wall on which hang a half-dozen grotesque paintings depicting torture, murder, cannibalism, and even necrophilia. Two glittering chandeliers hang from the ceiling, providing more than enough lighting for anyone sprawled on the dozens of cushions strewn about the room to read by... or at least they would when lit.

Meanwhile, Ashe goes to look at the statue at the end of the hall (D3). It's a fourteen-foot-tall marble statue of a six-armed woman with four faces on her head, one looking to each of the four cardinal directions, standing under a dome of colored glass. The statue wields numerous weapons in its six arms, and a small kneeler at its base gives a place to pay respects to whatever deity the statue represents. Each of the statue's eight eyes is a sparkling bright green orb. One of them is indeed magical, but there don't seem to be any spells associated with it.

What are the rest of you doing?

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The herdsman eyes Rhasadilara a bit askance.

"I am Theodor bilAmtrand, and I have forty head of cattle and a bull. I seek a wife to make cheese and butter, and will hire a herdsboy, who I will train up in the art of managing a herd. I'll be happy to supply dairy to all who need it."

Hilda hil-Sampt smiles at Lothar.

"You must be Guardian Narda, my husband did a little sketch of you. It's a pleasure to meet you. Is my husband well?"

Andoran

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The milk-selling colonist is still asking where the best pasture is to be found. His cows are suffering here with nothing but hay instead of proper grazing.
