Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Here is your new map.

At a best guess, Ebon Wings and Ashe, these were once living tigers whose heads were taken and mounted as trophies... and then animated! No bloodstone in here, though, at least not obviously. Does anyone wish to search?

As Ashe moves forwards, they snap at him... and each head appears to be mounted on an extensible serpentine neck. How far down do you want to go?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Up to you!

Are you sending word that Kelmarane is in your hands or going back to the monastery yourselves to report your success?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The worg looks unimpressed. However the wolves have all decided that it's time to leave...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The door opens easily.

Imagine a T-shaped hall, you have entered on the top-side of the crossbar at one end. At the far end of the crossbar there's an opening to another room. The long shaft of the T has a constriction part-way down, where you can see another slight gap in the walls, then it extends for about 10 feet to a blank wall. (It's a bit difficult to explain, I'll post a map on Saturday.)

Now here's the odd thing. Both walls of this twenty-foot-long corridor are decorated with row upon row of tiger heads. Each head appears to be that of an actual, once-living tiger. The heads are remarkably well preserved — their gaping mouths and glaring eyes even appear to be moist.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

There is magic, but no evil presences, beyond the door. Magic to the left, a small concentrated node, and ahead - quite a bit, diffuse.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Rhasadilara, you may attack if you wish. We're not really in combat right now since a conversation has broken out.

Liberty's Edge

Hit points: either roll or one-half of the appropriate die, but you must decide before rolling!

Hijiro: what do you want to do? If you have not used a skill/feat/whatever, then swap it out for something else, no worries.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You know, it probably is time to level up... :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Sorry, the wolf Lothar clobbered was the one which ran off.

"Live how you like in your territory, I shall do the same in mine!" said the worg, showing rather a lot of teeth.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Silena, you are holding a +1 lawful outsider bane greataxe. Ugruk had a potion of cure moderate wounds, a potion of expeditious retreat, a masterwork breastplate, a masterwork flindbar, 5 daggers, and a ring of feather falling.

Barezata - you remember mention of an 'interdict key' that the Lady Almah has in her possession, that ought to open the seal on the church crypt door.

Quite a lot of people (including all gnolls) have cleared out of the Battle Market, the only ones still here appear to wish to conduct honest trade.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I am accustomed to teaching and speaking in church... but in a university it seems to be regarded somewhat differently.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

This dungeon is a real pain to map, but here you are: current location

E3 is the alcove with the switch, E7 is the room with the 3 chests.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Yelping, the wolf runs off. The worg looks round at Barnabus.

"Your kind did not seem to wish agreement so I went my own way. You have your territory, keep to it!"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The people in the Battle Market initially applauded and whistled at the show, but fall quiet and begin to drift away as Sonya starts shouting something about her deity. Several of the traders start packing up their stuff. The bugbears leave immediately. Any gnolls there leave even more quickly.

Kardswann lies quietly.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Go ahead, Sonya. If you've not used the spell or feat, we can forget that you ever had them.

And you lot seem to have been busy :)

Friday I delivered my first lecture at the university. They make a big deal of it. I was OK until people started coming by my office Thursday afternoon to wish me luck... but it went well and the students applauded at the end.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The leopard leaps from the balcony in spectactular demonstration of the rule that cats always land on their feet, said feet pounding into Kardswann and knocking him flat. Hijiro stands back and watches, as does Sonya.

Barezata lets fly with a couple more arrows, which hit Kardswann. He groans and smiles at the same time.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You may redistribute items as necessary...

I shall see about getting Edmund involved, probably at the weekend.

(I have to deliver a lecture to new students on how to e-learn effectively on Friday... so busy preparing for that right now!)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Silena clatters her way up to the balcony (probably another factor in putting Barezata off her aim!). All she finds is a dead gnoll and Barezata at the edge of the balcony firing down on those below. She should have no difficulty in nosing her clothes and gear over the great axe like some naughty kitten burying her misdemenours!

Hijiro dances back from Kardswann, who clenches his fists and says something quite uncomplimentary about his parentage... but then a strange look of confusion clouds Kardswann's expression. His entire body begins shaking, as if he were struggling to control his actions. He furrows his brow and speaks through clenched teeth: "You... must... destroy... Xulthos. Below the... below the ruined church. Cannot hold on. Bind me or cut me... within an inch of death... His will is so much stronger than mine... Do it! Do it now!"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Lothar charges into the fray engaging the first wolf which evades his unarmed strike almost without breaking stride.

It turns snapping at him: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13, dmg 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The other one, a couple of steps behind, swings round in an attempt to flank... and its path brings it neatly onto Rhasadilara's blade! It yelps, lurching, clearly badly wounded.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ground Level

Hijiro sneaks up and prods Kardswann rather ineffectually, but enough to hurt and even further outrage him. His language is quite unrepeatable! He spins round wondering where the (insert expletive of choice) the attack came from...

Somewhere else in the building a large leopard rather clumsily carries a great axe upstairs. She's faced with a choice: be stealthy or carry the thing - it keeps clunking on the floor or tangling up her front paws and generally making it very difficult to be as stealthy as she would like.

On the Balcony

Barezata looks down on an enraged Kardswann, getting a fine view of him being 'pricked' in the rear by an invisible Hijiro, causing him to spin round cursing a blue streak...

Now visible, Hijiro can either stand his ground or flee. What will it be?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You find that you have three potions of cure serious wounds and three potions of lesser restoration.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Oh, go on then! The left chest says, 'By gentle caress shall truth be known.' The right chest says, 'Breathe deep your salvation.' The middle chest says, 'Life within but Death without.'

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barnabus lets fly... and hits (was that a wolf or the worg?).

Rhasadilara's shot misses.

Heads turn, teeth are bared, noses wrinkle. The worg mutters something and 2 wolves turn and head in the direction from which the missiles came...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Indeed not, 'Kitty' - especially as once you get around the corner, everything swims dizzily for a moment and the corridor shrinks... or is that you returning to your normal size?

You still have the great axe, although it's not exactly easy to wield in leopard form.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Kardswann is doing no more than shouting... act away!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

I doubt it... don't care for them myself :)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

'Kitty' Silena running off with the great axe causes considerable amusement amongst the crowd.

"I didn't see that coming, did you?" says someone.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The grumpy snake is dispatched without further ado.

The writing on the chest lids appears to be in Vudran. Can anyone read that?

Both the chest to the left and the chest to the right show up as being poisoned. The open chest contains six potions, none of which indicate as poison.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The wolves are preoccupied and fail to spot Lothar...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

All you know, dear Silena, is that it's happened. Didn't look like Kardswann was spellcasting, he was busy wrestling.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The mage hand opens the chest (which wasn't locked). Hissing like a tea-kettle a crimson snake rears up, spreading a cobra-like hood, and looking around for something to bite!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The leopard is somewhat startled as the world around her enlarges... or is it that she has shrunk?

Kardswann surges upright, hurling a kitten-sized leopard aside.

And we shall have your actions and rolls for the next round, please.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The gem in the wall is indeed a third eye bloodstone. As for why it's green... well, nobody knows. You do not, anyway!

Majenko thinks there's something alive in the middle chest.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, Kardswann is pinned good and proper. Good leopard!

Hijiro misses with his rapier, possibly distracted by stray vipers or possibly arrows from above... that hit Kardswann, by the way, nice shot Barezata. Two vipers bit successfully as well.

Kardswann save #1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Kardswann save #2: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Silena, please make a DC14 will save.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Excellent. It's almost 31 years since I got wed and it's been absolutely wonderful. Every good wish to you and the other lucky soul.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Samuel, the assorted denizens of the Battle Market are more interested in watching the show (and taking bets on it) than in interfering. The silver and black leopard is odds-on favourite.

I think it's the next round so sound off on what you want to do (apart from that delightful leopard... I know what you are doing!).

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

They still do not seem to have noticed you.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Ebon Wings, the scribblings seem to be a glyph of some kind, without actually reading it you cannot be certain what it is but likely something unpleasant, pain perhaps? Just as well Ashe has now dumped chalk all over it (nice move!).

Ashe, there's faint evil through the door... very faint.

Lucia, no traps and the door is unlocked.

Three large wooden chests, their lids decorated with carvings of cavorting tigers, sit against one wall of this room. Some sort of message seems to be carved on each lid. The wall opposite the chests is carved to depict hundreds of tigers marching in widening circles around a single green gem the size of a fist, set in the wall and itself carved to resemble a tiger's head.

It's not a big room, 10 ft wide and 15 ft long, and there are no other exits.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The effects of fume inhalation will last one round.

But... you have to check every round you are exposed to them. So if you go outside you will recover by the end of the round.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You are always welcome here... and in the meantime, is it you that's getting married?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Actually, it's the same fight - but anyone else who wants to join in will have to roll an initiative, of course, if they have not already done so.

Lessee, whose initiatives have I got?

Barezata - 15 - on balcony waving a bow and arrows around.
Silena (in leopard form) - 8 - on arena on top of Kardswann.
Ugruk the Gnoll - 8 - on balcony out cold at the very least.
Kardswann - 4 - on arena under a certain leopard.

Samuel's not rolled one yet. Where is he? On the floor near the arena?
Hijiro - have you rolled an initiative? I have you dancing around the arena poking at Kardswann.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You are about 200 yards away.

Crossbows are too quiet to be effective at firing warning shots!

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

My initiatives:

Creature #1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Creature #2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Creature #3: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

They do not seem bothered by the fumes, or maybe it's the cloths they have wrapped around their faces.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

We shall go for dramatic effect here... :)

Tumbling through the air, the giant leopard twists and turns as does Kardswann, but as they land with an impact that seems to shake the dust loose from the entire Battle Market, the cat is on top, uninjured.

Hijiro darts in to stab at Kardswann whilst Samuel summons his vipers - who look none too impressed at having to advance on a huge and snarling leopard but obey his bidding nonetheless.

Barezata peppers the gnoll with arrows. He isn't moving any more.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barezata dumps the gnoll on his backside, the flindbar goes flying.

The leaping leopard collides with Kardswann and both go over the balcony to the floor below. (Hijiro gets an excellent view.)

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Eventually, with Rhasadilara leading the way and tracking, you hear snarling and shouting and crest a hill to see that worg, accompanied by three ordinary wolves, attacking a couple of gnomes who appear to be mapping the area.

You have surprise...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Heads turn... and three of the creatures begin to move towards you in a threatening manner, readying clubs. The other five go back to work.

Please make a DC 12 Fortitude save, everyone, to avoid being nauseated by the acidic fumes.

If you wish to fight the three advancing towards you, please roll initiatives and state your intended actions... It will take them a round to get to you and it appears that they have only got melee weapons.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The scribble on the floor detects as magical, yes.

The Wayfinder thinks Ashe is facing south (if he is still facing towards the lever, that is).

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

OK, in where? Who's first? And what are you doing?

Liberty's Edge

Well, there's one review for Gericko to read now... hope it helps you decide!
