Meglos will turn to the assorted group " Is everyone here capable of incapacitating our fellow Starfinder agents if .. more likely when we encounter them? Speak up now so we can at least deal with that issue. I know there are not that many spells that can knock an opponent out so we will have to careful with that too " " If we are unlikely to be stealthy then we will need to strike hard and fast"

You had better hope its not like DS9. Otherwise half way through , you are going to get a world shattering Armada come through and destroy everything :). Im imagining a cross between Babylon 5 and the UN. Im going to guess that rarely does anything get agreed to, that there are some members on the station with more power than the others, and that one race is trying to convince the humans of Golarion that they are actually related .
Dragonstar for me is what I think of when someone ask for a Fantasy game set in a scifi universe. ITs got Lasers its got Dragon 'Gods' running Star Empires. It has strange races. It never had a huge player base but it certainly was different. As Owen said above Gamma World has been through many incarnations. I am quite excited by this. Science Fantasy generally has a smaller player base within the realms of gaming but if this ends up just being a single book Ill definetly look at picking it up.
I think they are simply testing the waters first. This type of game may not normally visit the same 'fanbase' as Pathfinder does. Keep in mind there are a lot of gamers who only do Scifi and there a lot who only do Fantasy. Some don't like Crossing the 'streams'. The fact that they have also gone for the Fantasy approach here ' ie Science Fantasy' leads me to believe that it may end up a lot like Dragonstar (a really great game and setting.. check it out if you can find it).
What I think needs to happen more is that Game days and Conventions need to more accurately market their experiences before. Nobody should be arriving at a Game day or convention without knowing in advance if the game they are attending is either core or non core. It should be known to all well in advance.
If this is an ongoing thing, what do the other players on the table think? Surely there must be some of these carry over from game to game? Dont they voice their annoyance? 'Oh hell, those 2. Im gonna pull out, as they wont even make it 3/4 way through the game'. I find it weird that they havnt said anything.
To put this into context I have wanted to play a Summoner type character for a long time. However I just find the Eidolon rules too complex and unwiedly. Its far too much options to calculate here and there. So when the spiritualist came along I thought Id give this version a Try. I had my first game last Saturday with my Nagaji Spiritualist. I decided on the Anger Phantom (although it was honestly a contest between that and the Hatred one). The Phantom is actually the Nagaji ancestor of the Character who was so disgusted at what Foreigners were doing to the traditions of where he was living that his Anger overode his honor and he slayed them to the last. He in turn was killed but his Anger does not allow him to rest). I think it fits perfectly as a concept class for the Xian Ti ethos and I try to portray two different versions of the character.. one where the character is being inhabited he tends to through tactics to the wind and charge in or do something rash. When the Spirit is fully manifested he is calmer and more inclined to be sociable. I was quite surprised by the classes limited spellcasting ability and I think the spell list could do with some work, Ill report how it goes at level 2. I would ask that you please dont add too much complexity to the Phantom. What we have now is more than enough.
Mystic : 2 things here A) Season 3 was the last season designed for 4 characters/ 4 players. That means that as soon as you add another character.. or even 2 more in this case you are introducing a destabilising influence on the encounter setup. 2 more players means 2 more set of actions each round, 2 more characters for the BBEG to target, more spells and so on. B) During combat tactics. Sometimes for what the creature can do these make no sense. Just keep in mind you can modify this to react against certain things. Id certainly be breathing the dragons breath on spellcasters/ ranged types.
Seran Gee: The first thing to realise is that each class that can have an Animal companion has a set number of companions that they can pick from. Rangers have the most limited number of choices. Druids have the largest number of choices. In the case of the axebeak its not normally available to be taken and thus the boon from the sheet opens it up to be picked. Its currently the only way to get access to the axebeak. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions Down the bottom you will see the list Druids have access to. Its a lot. Some can be taken at certain levels etc. Now its up to you to determine which ones are Pathfinder legal (so you should be checking the Additional Resources document you have). The Roc is indeed listed and no you only need to meet the requirements to get that Roc (which is not a boon).
Hi, Just a bit of background information. In another thread currently running we have been talking about a possible new Taldor book and someone mentioned Sarenrae and was guessing she was now worshipped in Taldor (because the anti Sarenrae sentiment expressed in the original Taldor book is not replicated in Inner Sea Gods) Whilst the lack of such information does not convince me that worship of her is still not tolerated there (I consider the omission of the Sarenrae reference for Taldor an error), it would be interesting to know if people think this has changed. Golarion for me has always been a very interesting setting. From nations with constant revolutions, a Maltheist nation, a Gothic Horror part and so on. The fact that the Taldors equated Sarenrae with their bitter enemies Qadira (who still have border skirmishes) was very interesting. It also created great story points (which PFS has exploited over the years). If it has occured and Sarenrae is now back in the good books in Taldor, Ill be a little sad for setting continuity. Does anyone else share my view?
As someone mentioned above these is a lot of variation with humans. You have the Azlanti humans (who basically felt superior to all other racial human groups), the Varisians, The Shoanti. Being an Elf or Dwarf dosnt make you any more interesting than a human (esp the way a lot of people play an Elf or Dwarf... as a human). The mark of a good setting for me is how interesting they make their races. Ive found the Elves and Dwarves of Golarion to be ..well not as interesting as say some places (ie Gnomes of Dragonlance, Dwarves of Earthdawn). Humanity on the other hand has a myriad of faces to view.
Whilst its possible ignorance can be involved, the fact that the guy is using Animate dead (which is not the lowest level of spells) means they have some game experience and a fair few scenarios under their belt. More than enough time to know the rules. I lean towards the malice over Ignorance (as BigNorse puts it)
Myles: Id feel: Peeved
What would i do about it? Id make it clear that I would prefer they not do that in the games I run. We dont have control or say on what they do in other games but Id like to think the gm has a say on the manners on show at his/her table. We have a player locally who facebooks as he is playing and runs herolab off his laptop screen. I find it horrendously rude myself but im not going to step in unless the gm does. I just think its a slap in the face to a person who is giving their time to let you play.
PFS Convention gming would Im guessing be the hardest experience a PFS GM will ever encounter. Firstly you are going to get players with probably vastly different levels of games and world knowledge. You will likely get people who do not play well with others ( or variations on the theme) You will likely have an artificial time restraint
The big thing thats gets me is the cadre of people who play directly off their i device/laptop/ other. Its happened more than a few times where combat goes really quick and then stops as the player stops playing Candy Crush/other, quickly (or rather slowly) loads up Herolab and then goes. Im of the group who does require people rolling diplomacy to give me something. Often its because what they are trying to do would more likely be Bluff (and occasionally Intimidate!) than Diplomacy. Or someone attempts to help the primary by looking mean!.. which means they add via diplomacy? (uhh no) Im a shy person myself and took up gming originally to break outta my shell (and to meet people). Also because nobody I dont require epic oratory from the player.. but something more than 'I want that damn sword otherwise Ill kill you!.. can I roll diplomacy?'.
I can only speak from my experience, but Ive had quite a few problem games in the past with drunk gm's and drunk players or a combination of the two. Things start out okay, but ive had people falling asleep at the table, people not focusing, people having alcohol fueled rules arguments. As I dont drink myself normally perhaps I have a lesser tolerance to people equating alcohol with fun But everyone has their own way of gaming. Let it continue!
I use the Plastic clear sheet style protective folders. You get about 20 or so sleeves per folder and you can buy them in different colors with an insert for the front page (say if you want to show a picture or the character/pathfinder number in big font). The character goes in the front (in this case a Herolab print out) followed by chronicle sheets which slide in 2 to a protective sheet. That way everything is in order as it should be. For characters with spells, I operate differently. The character is spread over 2 folders. one holds character details and a full spell book list , the other is just Chronicle sheets. Its a good idea to keep the color the same for both folder to identify this is for the same character. Prelevel your character at least once (sometimes twice). Ie create the character at the next level.. obviously gold you cannot do but everything else is possible. Stats, feats , skills etc. Again as a I use Herolab im constantly planning ahead in levels which I save and review. Its pretty easy to do this without Herolab also. http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/document-storage/display-boo ks-refills Thats what im referring to.
The issue being Pink Dragon, the player needs to be responsive enough so that when a gm asks 'How did your Perception get to +9 at level 1?', the player can answer them just as quickly. If you notice on a Herolab sheet it dosnt show the calculations made. You will have the player uming and arring to figure this out. Now I use Herolab myself but to really understand the mechanics of the game you need to understand how the calculations are made, and for that you honestly need to start out making manual characters. You also run the risk of saying, "here is my Oracle of Metal , Caspar Bronzebones!." GM: 'Awesome, how did he get A Knowledge Nobility of +9 already. Also, you dont seem to be carrying any books on you" Player : "Oh, I didnt know I needed to bring those with me, I bought all the books in Herolabs I needed. You mean I need to buy the pdf/hard cover AND Herolab licenses? That sucks! and yes Ive seen the conversation above a couple of times
Ambrosia: I used to have a good list of these but sadly its long gone I normally use this site http://ancientegyptonline.co.uk/set.html the Britannica online is also good. Schiffer: in 'standard' mythology , Horus was said to be the son of Osiris. He got into a fight with Set over the killing of his father in which he inflicted a nasty injury on set (as set did to him) He was also known as the protector of the Pharaohs. In many versions he is actually combined with Ra, so Horus-Ra.
Icy: Thats not what Im saying. It was part of the point of player not telling other players their race because they want to be mysterious. Then in combat the Dhampir falls and the Cleric then channels to heal. This probably kills the Dhampir. So again A) The cleric is working without knowledge of what race the character is
I also generally dont allow players/ characters who have fallen to start telling people 'You only have 2 rounds left to save me before Im perma dead! etc. Ive had players actually text another player to tell them this to get around it.
Ive noted lately a lot of posts of people unsure of things in regards to what they can play/use in Pathfinder society. Im also unsure if these people have read (or know) that the Guide to Organised play exists as well as the Additional Resources document. When I first started to play my gm told me that It was mandatory to read/ own a copy of the most current guide to organised play and the Additional Resources document. If I wanted to know if something was legal to use, I needed to check in there before I asked. Are we getting a generation of players who use herolab now exclusively and rely on that program to tell them if something is legal? What happens if Herolab isnt updated nearly enough to keep in line with Additional resources? If you are unsure if something is legal, check the guide to organised play. Check Additional resources. Use Ctrl-F in a PDF document to search via word if you need to. (If you dont like having to read through page after page) Try to do this before you ask here. We have no issue at all answering questions, but some questions should never need to be asked.
Anchoring Aura (Su) At 8th level, a paladin’s aura hampers extra-dimensional travel by evil outsiders. The aura extends 20 feet from the paladin. Evil outsiders attempting to use abilities such as dimension door, plane shift, or teleport to leave or enter the aura must succeed at a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the paladin’s level + the paladin’s Charisma modifier); failure means the ability does not function, as if the outsider were affected by dimensional anchor. The aura functions only while the paladin is conscious, not if she is unconscious or dead. Alternatively, as an immediate action, the paladin can expend one use of her smite evil ability to target an evil outsider within 30 feet with dimensional anchor. A targeted dimensional anchor persists even if the paladin is unconscious or dead. This ability replaces aura of resolve. I run a Paladin who has just gained the power Ive posted above. This might be a bit of an 'airy' question. Can an evil outsider tell there is something like this active? I know the rules that you can work out a spell effect, you can however identify when a spell/spell like is cast/used. As this aura is always on, would I be right in assuming the evil outsider cannot work out what it is or does the fact it needs to make a save to use its powers means that it can sense that something is not right? Also does the Immediate action Dimension Anchor allow for a save by the creature being targeted? No save is listed in the power above. The spell itself normally requires a ranged touch attack and requires a SR check. Again no such thing is stated above. Thanks for any advice on this. |
