The skinny is this: The elders of my village claim that a great star fell from the sky at the moment of my birth. My teacher says that it was a sign of the power and responsibility I was to be given some day. My mother always said that it was the gods showing everyone that they had shown her favor with my birth.
My father on the other hand, well he didn't love me, neither did he love my mother. I can remember him beating me for no apparent reason and my mother trying to intervene only to be beaten herself. I learned at an early age how to fade away from the real world and fall into a dream, ignoring the pain and the yelling. It saved me more than once.
Nobody ever said anything about what happened. I would get angry with the elders because they did nothing to stop my father. I never understood why.
One day my father was angrier than normal, and started taking it out on me. I don't think I'll ever know what the reason for the beating that day was, but it was brutal. I managed to push aside the fear and pain, but my mother couldn't. She intervened on my behalf one last time. As my father beat her, I saw a glimmer around her neck. Something I hadn't seen before, it looked like a spiralling ball of silver fire.
My mother loved me, she loved me very much. I was her pride and joy.
The elders finally did something for us. They banished my father for the murder of my mother. Too little too late.
I was given to the local priest of Pharasma. It was believed that I could at least be of some service to him. And he was kind enough to take me in.
One day while gathering herbs for the elder cleric, I noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the village. I ran to the village only to see that it was being over run with goblins. Not trained in battle, I headed to the church to help the priest tend to the wounded. After getting to the church, I was informed that my mentor had been killed by a goblin and his worg. I did the best I could to tend to the wounded, but it wasn't good enough. Quietly, I left the wounded and knelt before the altar to Pharasma asking for her help. Begging that she would grant me enough skill and power to help the wounded, I cried tears of sorrow. As he knelt before the altar, a guard from the village grabbed me and threw me back into the room with the wounded. "Get back to work! You're the only one who knows what to do now." I knelt next to the first injured soldier and began applying bandages. At that moment I could visualize my mother, broken and bleeding as my father beat her. And as I wrapped the wound I prayed to Pahrasma for her guidance and power to heal the wounded. Miraculously, I could feel the power of Pharasma flow through me and into the injured soldier. I went on to heal and care for many that were injured that day. Since then I have felt the calling of a healer and have helped where ever I am needed.
I still carry my mothers silver holy symbol of Pharasma around my neck.
