When you're creating your character, set it as an NPC, and turn on the "Average HPs at New Levels" optional rule, then select the race "Bestiary Monster Creator" on the Background tab.

A new update of the Pathfinder files is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.

This update adds Ultimate Equipment as a new package, available for $9.99. You can purchase this through the "Purchase Data Package" option in the License menu.

We've made a number of other improvements to the Pathfinder files in this update. For example, the weapon, armor, magic item and gear lists are now sorted by item type, so that the purchase lists in Hero Lab look more like the lists you're familiar with in the books. Those abilities (flaming, for example) that add extra damage to weapons will now display that extra damage on their weapons.

Also, those abilities that add a bonus to saving throws under certain circumstances - like the Fighter's Bravery ability, which adds a bonus to Will saves against fear, or an Elf's resistance to enchantments, are now displayed on the appropriate saving throws. Within the program, you can move your mouse over the saving throw you're about to roll and see the list of modifiers that might apply to this roll. On the printed character sheet and the statblock, these effects will be listed near the base saving throw values.

If you're not familiar with Hero Lab, please head over to the Hero Lab page of our website. There, you can download the program in demo mode and try it out. The only things you won't be able to do in demo mode are save and print (although you can see the print preview), so that you can give it a thorough test before you decide to purchase our program.

Another option if you'd like to try Hero Lab is our Hero Lab for the Pathfinder Beginner Box program. This program is free, and does support saving and printing, and allows you to make heroes and monsters from the Pathfinder Beginner Box.

If you are doing that for Paizo as far as Hero Labs goes are you going to release that as an update to the users as well then as a custom type of output for those that own Hero Labs?

Some of these improvements/fixes were in last week's 6.20 release - for example: the gender of characters defaults to blank, so that when creating monsters, you don't need to change the gender in order for it to be left off the statblock, the weapon criticals now match Paizo's format, Skill Focus: Knowledge (Arcana) is now listed as Skill Focus (Knowledge [arcana]), XP is now included on the statblock for NPCs, and the (Ex), (Su) and (Sp) information is now stripped from the ability names in the special qualities section.

That's only the first round of improvements/fixes - I'm continuing to work on our statblock.

We are subsituting Magic Circle of Protection for the dimensional occulist with archetype's blink gained at 6th level.

Launch the editor (Tools menu...Launch Editor), the create and save a new file.

Go to the "Custom Ability" tab.

Press the "New (Copy)" button at the bottom left. In the list of items that pops up, scroll down until you find "Dimensions" (this is the patron entry you add for this archetype).

When you find it, copy the Id that's in parentheses next to the name - cWitDimens - down on a piece of scrap paper, then choose OK.

Along the top, find the Unique Id - enter a new Id for your copy, such as cWitDimenA.

Along the right-hand side, around the middle, find "Replaces Thing Id" - enter the original Id here - cWitDimens.

Change the ability's description text.

In the bottom-center, find the "Spellbook Bonus Spells" option, and click it.

Find the Blink entry in that list, and click its "Cond." button:

Phase: First, Priority: 500
count:Classes.Witch >= 6

Press the "Click to add another bootstrap" text, and find the magic circle spells, then check all 4 and press OK.

See how each of the other items in this table lists "Witch" in two different columns - set the same for these new spells.

On each of these new spells, press the "Cond." button, and copy everything that was in blink's Cond.

Delete the blink spell.

Press OK to leave this form. Save this item (ctrl-s) and save the file (file...save), then close the editor. (because you're dealing with a replacement, the "Test Now!" button isn't an option in this case).

Back in the main Hero Lab window, go to the Develop menu, and make sure that "Enable Data File Debugging" is checked there, then choose "Quick Reload Data Files" from that menu (or ctrl-r). Everything should be working now.

The file you created in the editor can be emailed to the rest of your play group - they'll just put it in the same folder, and then they'll get the same change in their copies of Hero Lab.

Version 6.6 of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab are now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab. This update adds the remaining variant rules from Ultimate Combat - Piecemeal Armor and Wounds & Vigor, along with some bug fixes.

This release also has support for the Advanced Race Guide playtest. We've decided to hold off on a full implementation of the race building system for now - we feel there's too much of a chance that there will be major changes to how it functions between now and the release of the ARG. We have added the new subtypes and new racial abilities to Hero Lab, so that once a user has written a new race, it will be simpler to add that race to Hero Lab using the integrated editor.
