Living Greyhawk used the master item logsheet. while i'm for less paperwork, i think PFS could greatly benefit from a similar sheet.

summoners are very good, and can really change the odds of any battle. this is especially nice at low levels.
if we're talking on a role-playing basis, then any choice you make is a good choice for your character.
but if we're talking what mechanics work best...
if you want to go quantity of spells over quality, start with a 1st level human conjurer (give up abjuration and illusion) from cheliax. take spell focus (conjuration) as your replacement for scribe scroll, augment summoning as your 1st level feat, skill focus (concentration) as your human feat, and master of pentacles as your faction feat. take second level as druid, then bounce back and forth between the two. at 3rd level, take extend spell (though you won't be able to use it until 5th level). this build allows you not to worry about taking quicken spell, as you won't be able to use it before you retire. while you'll have less powerful spells than a straight classed summoner, you'll have the ability to change out prepared druid spells, you'll have a greater number of available spells to cast, and the master of pentacles feat will apply to both sets of spells. also, a lot of druid spells will be able to fill in for the lost wizard abjuration spells. your animal companion will also be a big advantage, especially if you don't want to leave yourself unguarded on the field.
if you're look for quality over quantity, start the same way, but progress solely in conjurer. like the cinjurer/ druid, take extend spell at 3rd level (and in this case, you'll be able to use it immediately). Improved initiative is a good choice for your 6th level feat, and quicken spell is a must for 9th level. in this case, you'll lose out on the sheer number of spells as well as the additional druid niceties, but you'll be accquiring higher level spells much more quickly.
now, if we were using non-open material, we could have a great long discussion on the awesome brokeness of the arcane heirophant prestige class. :)
prestige classes are not currently allowed in pathfinder society. i strongly suspect that they will be allowed (along with most of the stuff from the final version of the pathfinder rpg) when the society moves out of the playtest season and into season one.
evil alignments are indeed prohibited in pathfinder society as well.

we had a pretty good turnout for last wednesday's inaugural game. i think i'm the only one on the forums, though.

That's because there is no where in the module that states the encounter takes place in shallow water. Here is the box text

As you can see it only mentions how... i just ran HFI last night as the first PFS mod for a full table of players.
had it not been for this thread, i would never had known that the intent was for the encounter to take place in shallow water. that would have been very bad for that party: the cleric was flat-out unable to make a swim check (-12 overall to her swim checks) and the party tanks weren't much better off (-10 each). as it was, i made the water about 5 feet deep - enough to still make it a big factor in the combat (and make it possible to do things like duck under the overturned boat), but not enough to make it outright deadly in and of itself (though the unconscious scale-clad barbarian who was momentarily lying on the bottom might disagree with that assessment)... this also got rid of the strangeness of sahaugin swimming around in 2 or 3 foot deep water.
when all was said and done, it was still a TOUGH encounter, and it sent them into the final battle low on hp and out of all healing except 3 cure minor wounds.
in the end, though, they succeeded by the skin of their teeth - at one point, the party's rogue was alone and unconscious in a sinking dinghy surrounded by chum-seeking sharks, and two thirds of the fighting line was unconscious or staggered. i think it was a truly memorable introduction to PFS for all involved.

i think the big difference between Silent Tide and Mists of Mwangi is the setup of the scenario. in Silent Tide, there is assumed to be some time between the acts in which you may have time to spend that money (it's more of a time-based scenario). in Mists of Mwangi, it is assumed
that being said, i haven't seen anything officially stating that PCs can or cannot spend money between acts. it's really going to be up to the DM to use common sense. if the mod involves nothing but the PCs exploring some underground tomb recently discovered in the wild interiors of the Isle of Kortos, there aren't likely to be any opportunities for them to purchase gear between acts.
conflict chips are all large sized creatures, and the chips themselves are the same size as the original base size for large D&D minis (standard poker chip size).
