This is an evergreen scenario, so you can play it with level 1 PCs as often as you want, and once with a level 2. This is standard, not core.

I'm an experienced player and GM (3 stars), and I've played a few games of PbP, but it's my first time GMing in PbP. So you may need to bear with me as I figure out stuff like posting maps and things. I chose this adventure, because I've already played and GMed it twice each, so I know it well.

And yes, my first Society PC really is a Venture-Captain now.

Me once do sumthin' like that. Me compete in Ruby Phoenix Tourney with friends Lightheart and Cinna and others. Cinna casty cleric type, had breathe o' life spell ready for if we die.

Lightheart got kill by big beasty, and Cinna too far away. So me pick up Lightheart and throw her at Cinna, so they be within 30 feet of each other. But me big, strong, raging barbarian, and Lightheart is thin monk lady wit' no armor or heavy gear, so she easy to throw.

OOC: Only one skill rank in Profession (Tax Collector), which on top of his wisdom penalty was +0 on the day job for most of his career. Around level 11 or 12, I finally got him a headband to boost his wisdom for will saves, so he actually has 10 wisdom and a +1 day job, finally.

Perception is normally a move action - so taking 20 on it would really only be 1 minute. (you can do it 20 times in 1 minute, and twice in one round.)

Also, remember the -1 per 10 foot distance modifier... if the room is 30 foot wide and he has a 30 from the doorway he either has something liek a 26, 27 or 28 for across the room.

I'll also give at least a -5 for things out of sight (can he spell the undead - feel the breeze from the secret door/ hear the invisible rogue/ etc?), sometimes as much as -20 (or more maybe) for effective invisibility.

wow... "can he spell the undead" should have been "can he smell the undead"

If it gool or gast, then me sure he smell it. They smell bad. Me kill them just ta get rid of smell.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

1. Why are you a Pathfinder?

Me love a good fight! And father is Pathfinder. He all noble paladin. Me not like that. Me just like a good fight, so me break family tradition and go barbarian. But father already pay for entry in Pathfinders for me, and me figure that good way to find lotsa good fights, so me go with it.

2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?

Me Mash!!! That come from me battle cry: MASH CRUSH KILL DESTROY!!! But... me birth name is Reginald Bartholomew Brightsword VII. Me think nickname Mash fit me better. Long name is father.

3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?

Me grow up in Absalom, cause father was Pathfinder from Grand Lodge.

4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?

Me big, muscular human with blonde hair. Me look Ulfen. Me always wear armor and carry weapons, even at fancy parties. Especially at fancy parties. *grin*

5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)

See number 1. Me love a good fight.

6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)

Magic!!! Me hate fightin casty wizard types. Me develop Iron Will and get special cloak to protect from magic. Me ok with friends using magic, but only if me know them well.

7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?

Grandmaster Torch is me mentor. Me learn lot from him.

Me go on lotta missions with same friends - Slobmlin, Bitey, Chibiko, Lightheart, Kara Vadalis, Lore, and Cinna. Me trust them with me life. Lightheart, Bitey, Kara, and Lore be tough melee fighters. Me respect that. Cinna, Chibiko, and Slobmlin be casty magic types, but they me friends anyway. They heal me a lot, cause me get hurt in fights a lot. Kara is... umm... very pretty, and good at talkin' people into givin' us info and stuff, but only person me ever meet that dumber than me.

(OOC: This was our home PFS group that broke up when 3 of the 6 of us moved away a couple of months ago. In less than a year, we got all the way to level 13 together (including playing Eyes of the Ten). Bitey the Badger is technically a companion animal, but we often joke that he's the PC and Slobmlin is his companion elf. Lore and Kara are PCs of the same player. So it was just a 6 person group.)

8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?

Race? Me pretty fast for a human. Me wear mithril breastplate that no slow me down.

9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?

Me not 'fraid of nothin!!! Me just don't like that casty magic stuff.

10. What is your most treasured possession?

Me save da heads from evry dragon me ever kill, stuff em, and hang em on walls at home. Me have four of em so far.

(OOC: I have no idea if there's a PFS mechanic for this, but it's just fluff, so I figure nobody cares.)

Me barbarian in Pathfinder Society. Me not brightest guy around. After fightin' some tough beasties, me learn ta always carry potions for see invibl... invisi... err... ta see hidden stuff. Me also have fly potions. Me once chase dragon in sky and killed it with me claws, 'cause it took me magic weapon and try ta fly away. Had dragon head stuffed and hung up on wall at home.

Me point is ev'ry tough guy need ta be prepared for bad magic beasties. Even bad tough guys prepared for good magic guys, or they get trounced.

Shadow Lodge

Me not think Torch and Paracountess like that. Torch just use her for information, and give her Pathfinder favors in return. Torch teach me be diplo... diplom... errr. He teach me be nice ta folks if ya need somethin' from them. Me think Torch too smart to bed Paracountess.

But me not too smart to do that. *grin*

Me Mash! Me barbarian! Me battle cry is "MASH CRUSH KILL DESTROY!!!"

Me meet Grandmaster Torch before first mission fer Society, long time ago. Torch say us should watch out fer each other, cause when we on mission, we all we got. Me think that make sense. Me join Shadow Lodge when get back from that first mission, after buncha gillmen try to kill me and new Pathfinder friends.

Me learn lot from Torch. He say me need to be more friendly and learn to be more diplomatical when talkin' to people. Me train with teacher he recommend and get better at talkin' to people me meet on missions.

After me get clobbered in Ruby Phoenix tourney, Torch make me take break to train. Me learn iron will. Me learn value of accuracy instead of just power in swingin' weapon, so me switch from great axe to nodachi like friend Chibiko uses, but me better with it, cause she weak witch who mostly use magic. Me buy better magic cloak to protect from danger. Me more better adventurer cause of friend Torch good advice.

Me say all Pathfinder need listen ta Grandmaster Torch. Torch good man, give good advice.

Adam Frary: With Raging Vitality, that not problem. And me be smart in fight like ShadowcatX say. When me almost pass out, me run to friend for heal. Or me chug heal potion. Chug in fight work well for raging barbarian. Chug beer. Chug potion. Whatever.

Me barbarian. Just hit level 6. Last mission kinda blurry. Me drained wisdom by bad beasty - not remember much after that.

Me had 15 rounds rage at level 5. Never had mission where me run out during day, but almost happen last mission.

First fight easy - just guard doggies. Me not bother raging, even though guard doggies breath fire. Me cut doggies with axe and not need be angry.

Second fight was tough. Me rage whole time. Still only 4 rounds, me think.

Third fight was tough hitter, but quick. Me kill fast. That where me drained wisdom. Only rage 2 or 3 rounds, me think.

Last fight real tough. Me rage lotta rounds. Me have two teammates knocked out during fight. Me almost knocked down, but me keep fightin'. Me mighty barbarian!!! We win in end. Me and friends not die.

After last fight, me was tired. Only have 1 round rage left. Me glad no more fights that mission.

Me point is by level 5, barbarian have lotta rage, even on tough day. Before that, me just not rage every fight. Save best attacks for tough fights, like casty magic friends.

Shadow Lodge

Me use greataxe. Me magic greataxe called Decapitator. Me no use big words much. But me big guy with big muscles with big axe with big name, work well for scare enemies.

And yeah, with an AC Check Penalty of 0 and Arcane Spell Failure of 0%, I guess anyone can wear it, even without proficiency, and there are no penalties.

Now I just have to find a tailor who can make me a nice little kimono like this and I will be set!

Ya mean ya not gonna keep the pretty pink dress you "found" on our last mission?

Shadow Lodge

Me like ta just knock guys out when punch em in da face, not always want to shove spike in them. Me punched a guy out in one punch in bar fight just da other day. Crit punch ftw!

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Sound like me! Me barbarian with greataxe too. Me not be smarty guy, but at least me know to keep mouth shut while friends lying to bad guys. Me bad liar. Me gooder at forcin' people ta do what me want by scarin' 'em with axe.

Me get big crit hit at end of first mission too.

19 str +4 raging = 23 str (+6 bonus)
With two hand weapon, that +9 damage

So me did 1d12 +9 raging, and crit for 3d12 + 27 at level 1. Only got crit once, Roll good for 52 points damage, if me remember right. Chop evil spell casty woman in half.

No crit with greataxe since, and me up to level 4. :(

But me did crit with fist in bar fight recently. Knock out guy with one punch, and not even raging!

Shadow Lodge

Me like ta scare enemies into tellin stuff. But usually not have ta hurt em too much. But one time, me really hurt one guy to make him talk.

He piss me off. Pretended to be one of us, helpin' some refugees. We made camp for night, and he took first watch with me friend, Lore. Tried to kill Lore, but Lore shouted, and we all came ta help. We capture da guy, and me tell him dat I cut off a limb if he don't say what me need ta know. But me flub intimidate roll. He no talk, so me chop off his foot. That way, he no run away later. Then he talk.

So masterwork greataxe count as masterwork tool ta help intimidate?

***
Out of character: Mash is a Chaotic Neutral barbarian, but I was actually thinking of moving his alignment in the general direction of Neutral Good before this incident, because I'd been playing him more tame and helpful than originally intended. This balanced against that nicely to prove that CN is the right alignment for him.

But it's also not like he did this to some random stranger - this was a guy who betrayed the group and ambushed one of his friends. Which is why I'd say this didn't cross the line into evil, though it did shift the karma balance away from the good that he'd been leaning towards before this, and back towards neutral.

Mash get healed by Slob a lot. Slob is druid, use wand heal Mash a lot. Mash wanna buy Slob new wand, but can't. So Mash save up gold for gooder armor to not get hurt so much. Now, me have shiny new mithral breastplate, so me can have gooder armor and not slow down from weight. Me got lotta gold from rescuing noble lady, so me bought wand too with extra gold. Will give Slob wand to heal Mash next time we fight together.

Me not even know me could spend PA on wand. Me never know nobody spend PA on stuff. Me and friends all save PA for Raise Dead, but nobody need yet.

(bought first wand at level 4, even though it was listed on my first chronicle sheet at level 1)

Shadow Lodge

The Core Rulebook says:

Quote:

Sleeping in Armor: A character who sleeps in medium or heavy armor is automatically fatigued the next day. He takes a –2 penalty on Strength and Dexterity and can't charge or run. Sleeping in light armor does not cause fatigue.

And:

Quote:

Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing mithral full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor's check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving.

So Mash want to know: Do this mean me can sleep in shiny, new mithral breastplate without bein' too sleepy to fight good in da mornin'?
