Marug was born to a Ulfen captive (and slave) mother and an orc raider. Born a slave, Marug was denied access to weapons, and so had to learn to survive and defend himself with his own two fists.

Taunts, derision and beatings served to focus Marug's anger towards his "brothers" and "sisters" and his only balm was when he would sleep wrapped in his mother's arms. On those nights that she was called to serve his sire's foul attentions, Marug would lay awake, ready for assault from the rest of the tribe. Marug was given to the butcher as a servant, and he suffered greatly from the vile sadist. Daily, the butcher would tell Marug thet he would soon discover his "troo callin'". That day came when Marug reached his age of majority.

He was dragged forcibly into the shaman's cave complex. Blood splatters and rotting limbs covered the walls and floors. He was led to an outcropping of rock in the center of a large chamber. Tied to the rock was his mother, screaming as needles were jabbed into her hands, feet and eyes. Inscribed on the floor was a crudely drawn circle with writing that made Marug's eyes hurt. Something foul was going to happen, and he guessed he would be the focus.

he was bound and made to stand in the circle while the shaman capered around him and dusted him with powders to te sound of beating drums and rattles. The shaman withdrew to the rock and Marug saw his chance. All eyes were on the ceremony and he begn to strain the limits of the leather straps that bound him. The chanting and drumming reached a cresendo as his bonds tore asunder. As he was leaping from the circle, the knife came down.

Marug remembers nothing but the sibilant whispers in his ears, telling him to smash...destroy...tear flesh and crush bones, a demand he gladly followed. When he finally regained his senses, the voice was gone, and he was miles from the tribal holdings. He learned later that none of the tribe survived that night of terror. Marug made his way slowly to Absolom, taking jobs as a caravan guard for money.
