Is Malleon close enough (give or take a 5' step) to the trapdoor opening to see Oso & the spider? Basically I'm wondering if I could Rapid Shot, or if I would have to move and take a single shot. Of course, using Rapid Shot on a Spider that close to Oso may not be the best idea depending on my rolls... ;-) Dungeon Master wrote: ... Malleon calls out and scans the perimeter, only the caw of birds answers him, though to the east he catches a flash of what appears to be a young blonde girl. She darts behind a tree roughly 60 feet from the group. Malleon spins and points to the east. "Hey, you there, behind the tree! My name is Malleon and these are my companions. We were sent by the Sheriff to look for some children that are missing from Falcon's Hollow. Please come out and talk to us, we aren't dangerous." Malleon puts his arrow back in his quiver and has his bow dangling from one hand as he finishes this speech. Chalen wrote:
"Aye" Malleon strings his bow and has an arrow in hand, but not nocked and drawn. He circles around the burned ruins. "Savram! Juran! Kimi! Mikra! Hollin! The Sherrif sent us to find you, your parents are worried. Can you hear my voice!" Malleon makes Spot (15+3=18) & Listen (10+3=13) checks I'm assuming these are light horses that are provided, but I can check with Oso later Malleon ponders the rough sketch in his notebooks... "Ok, both Elara's and the Lumber Camp are on trails from the town, so we shouldn't have any problem finding them. Riding to Elara's, we should be able to get there in around 2 hours, maybe a little longer. If we head straight to the logging camp, it would be around 3 hours by horse. If we ride straight across the Vale from Elara's to the lumber camp, it would be around... hmm... 4 hours? There isn't a path to follow, but we can just skirt the southern edge of the woods and that should work I think. So if we left at dawn ~ 6 AM ? we could be at either location by early morning 9 AM. If we went to Elara's first, spent around an hour looking for clues and then rode on to the Lumber camp, we could be there by just after mid-day." 1 PM ? Malleon looks to his fellow party members. "What do you think? Can we spare the morning to search for the children? Time is of the essence, but if we set out at dawn..." Malleon is clearly torn about this decision, Dungeon Master wrote:
Malleon speaks to the Sherrif before he departs. "Sherrif, could you help us by sketching a rough map or giving directions on how to reach the logging camp? I also have a few questions which might speed us on our way..." Malleon offers his notebook and inkpen. "Laurel said there was a forester there that might have more information on where the elderwood moss could be found. And could we check this Elara's on the way to the logging camp, or is it out of the way? Could you give me the names and descriptions of the missing children?" Louinor wrote:
Malleon nods his head. "I agree. If we can do both at the same time, that would be great. But there are dozens of people in town deathly ill with the blackscour taint, and a handful of children missing. It pains me, but if I have to chose, the search for ingredients for a cure comes first." Chalen wrote:
"Aye Chalen. At dawn we should be on the road to the logging camp. Every hour someones dies from the blackscour taint. I would suggest that you buy any provisions tonight, and get an early rest. We may be on the move for days on end." Oso Legumbe wrote:
Sorry, I thought Oso and Louinor had talked when we went to the church. I was at work, at didn't have time to doublecheck that in the prior pages. "The children might be in the same places as the ingredients, but we won't know without searching. But I think that unless we have evidence that the children are in danger, we should concentrate on the ingredients. Dozens of people are in desperate need of a cure, and more fall sick every day! We need to find the Eldest trees in the Vale to find Elderwoof Moss. We also need Ironbloom Mushrooms, and those we can probably find in the dwarven ruins to the north. And we have to find Ulizmila the Witch, for an exotic root called a Rat's Tail. If your guide can't help us, there is a man at the logging camp who was reccomended." Oso has met Louinor before when we went to the Church, so I'm assuming he isn't asking her for an introduction Malleon leans forward and speaks quietly to Oso: "Oso, Louinor and I have been to see the herbalist that Lady Cirthana reccomended. She thinks she can make a medicine to cure this blackscour taint that is plaguing Falcon's Hollow." But... she needs three ingredients which might be hard to find in the wilds of Darkmoon Vale. The Sherrif said these children are 'not missing yet' so we can perhaps search for them later, or combine our efforts and seek out both the ingredients and the missing children. But time is of the essence for all these people that are already sick, and Laurel needs the ingredients without delay. Will you help me search for these ingredients?" It looks like Dreamweaver is unable to post this weekend, so if its alright, I'll make the assumption that Louinor will follow Malleon's lead in town at least, so we can get the party back together. Malleon and Louinor thank Laurel for her time, and promise to seek out the ingredients for the potential cure to the blackscour taint. Leaving Roots and Remedies, Malleon turns to Louinor "I think we should find an inn for the night, and ask around for some directions to the lumber camp. How about the Jak'A'Napes by the docks? We might find Oso there as well" Malleon and Louinor walk through the wet and muddy streets of Falcon's Hollow, and enter the Jak'A'Napes. "Barkeep! A pair of ales please. And what hot food is being served today?" Malleon holds up a gold piece as he and Louinor sit at the bar "Oso, how fared it with the Sheriff? And who are your friends?" Dungeon Master wrote: ROOTS AND REMEDIES Malleon scribbles down notes. "Hmm... Elderwood Moss, Rat's Tail...but not a real rat's tail, but a kind of root instead. And 7 Ironbloom Mushrooms." I'll check with the Lumber Camp and this Milon tommorrow, and then set out to try and find these for you. But where does this witch... Malleon checks his notes ... Ulizmila live? And where exactly is the lumber camp? Would it be possible to journey there today before nightfall?" Malleon turns to Louinor with almost child-like glee evident on his face. "Finding the cure to this plague is the sort of quest that can make a reputation. I've heard that Darkmoon Vale is dangerous, and just two of us will make it tiring to keep watch. Should we seek out Oso and perhaps some others to aid us?" Dungeon Master wrote:
Malleon looks up from his scribbled notes. "Laurel, I understand that you are extremely busy during this trying time. Would this holds up a pair of gold pieces be sufficient compensation for your time? And you mentioned that you don't have a cure "in here". Is there somewhere else that might have a cure?" Dungeon Master wrote: CHURCH -- So Louinor and Malleon are going to Laurel, and Oso is going to find the constable? Is this correct? Sounds correct to me, although Malleon wanted to go see the constable after as well, to ask about the missing children. But seeing as how it seems like a plague has hit Falcon's Hollow, its a bit of enlightened self-interest to check with this Laurel about the blackscour taint first. Dungeon Master wrote:
Malleon turns to Louinor and Oso. "Shall we seek out the constable to offer our aid? Or do you think we should seek out this herbalist, Laurel, to learn more of this blackscout taint?" Dungeon Master wrote:
"Lady Cirthana, where might I find the constable? While I may not be able to help directly with this blackscour taint, I might be able to help with the missing children." Dungeon Master wrote:
Malleon shakes the rainwater from his cloak as he enters the church, and is visibly shaken by the hordes of seemingly deathly ill people. This seems more like a plague or epidemic than the "coughing sickness" I had heard about on the ferry. Malleon approaches the woman at the altar, and respectfully waits to gain her attention. When he has her attention:

"Hello, my name is Malleon, and these are my companions, Louinor and Oso. We are adventurers recently arrived here in Falcon's Hallow, and came to seek the guidance of Iomedae as to where there might be an opportunity in Darkmoon Vale to win renown and honor.
But what I see here of this sickness shows that there are more pressing issue besetting Falcon's Hollow. Is there anything I can do to help?" Oso Legumbe wrote:
"Excellent. I've heard that Darkmoon Vale is a place where a brave man with a strong blade and quick wits might make his mark. But such men working as a team are stronger than their the sum of their skills. You look like a capable fellow, and your talk of honor mirrors my own thoughts. What say you to working as a team to win renown here on the frontier? And what better place to look for an opportunity to win renown and honor than the Temple of Iomedae? Shall we speak to the priests?" Malleon looks at Louinor. "Three are stronger than two. Care to join us?" This was directed at Oso and Louinor primarily, but still said loud enough for Chalen and Bobek to overhear, as they appear to be fellow outsiders After getting a response (hopefully positive) Malleon sets off for the Temple to see what opportunities for adventure there might be in Falcon's Hollow. And besides, it never hurts to make friends with the priests BEFORE you need urgent healing ;-) Ignoring the worsening rain, Malleon looks at the bulletin boards and his gaze falls on a flyer for the Church of Iomedae. Hmm... a temple to the Goddess of Justice & Valor. Just the place to look for an opportunity to be a hero. "I think the Church of Iomedae would be a good place to visit." Malleon says to Louinor, loud enough for the others to overhear. Assuming of course that they haven't walked too far away from the bulletin boards yet Malleon checks that his oilskin pouch is tightly tied, protecting the bowstrings within from the rain, and then shoulders his pack and strides off deeper into town towards the Church of Iomedae. Louinor wrote:
"Malleon Harper at your service" he says as he pushes his wet hair out of his eyes. "I'm new to Falcon's Hollow myself, but I heard rumors in Korvosa that Darkmoon Vale was a frontier where an adventurer might make his name. And so here I am." Malleon eyes Louinor's scalemail and weaponry. "Are you too perhaps in search of adventure?" Sorry about the delay in responding. Rather rude of Malleon to start a conversation and then stop talking ;-) Well, I finally got the new character written up. Malleon Harper, a CG Human Fighter 1. I'm good with a bow, and also like to fight with a longsword/shortsword combo. I'll fill in the rest of the background and personality tommorrow (its been a long day), but in short: Spoiler:
Malleon was trained by a group of adventurers, old friends of his parents. Just recently finished his initial training, Malleon has an argument with his mentors about his readiness to adventure. They leave on an adventure and leave him behind in <insert city> to continue practicing and training his skills.
Determined to prove them wrong, Malleon instead journeys to Falcon's Hollow, in search of an adventure to prove himself after hearing rumors of the dark monsters that lurk in (or under) Darkmoon Vale & Droskar's Crag. Here is the rough character sheet: Spoiler:
