Well, if we're going to get all technical, rules mastery, like mastering GMing, or tactical mastery, etc, are all facets of game mastery. So I'll just snatch those Hermes Conrad laurels to wear while I listen to what will undoubtedly be an awesome episode on at least one facet, if not more, of game mastery.
There is more than one: Link Hogfather is the one I am talking about. At one time, all of them were available for free Instant Viewing on Netflix. I haven't checked in a while, but if you have NF, you might want to check.
I'm going to suggest that people who don't think there is any reason other than preference for Vancian magic should start trolling (in the other sense of the word) Old School D&D blogs and forums for the reasons. Also, nostalgia and preference are not irrational: at most, they are simply non-rational. And finally, I hope that there are no cartoons of dragons taking dumps on trolls who are 4e fans complaining about whatever D&DNext ends up being called. Except maybe those who thought such cartoons were hilarious and people who complained were just butt-hurt losers of the 3rd kind. Mutatis mutandi.
Happy Birthday, Lynora! (One of my favorite days.) Also, the boys took some pregenerated characters into WHITE PLUME MOUNTAIN. HAHAHA! They're each controlling 8 characters, and soma dem boys gonna DIE. They drove the Black Pudding off with fire. And now they are in a fight with the sphinx because they could not solve the riddle and Dispelled the Wall of Force. I'm gonna toughen that sphinx up a might, methinks.

Hell yes. The problem with dwarves isn't dwarves. It's the people who insist on playing them as Grumpy even though there were 6 other personalities to choose from. Besides what's not to love about a race that works hard, fights hard, and you know they party hard too! My youngest nephew's first character was a dwarf. He was about six I think. He made an ugly, grumpy dwarf, but he built all kinds of other specifics into him: he was gem crazy, a jeweler, very loyal to his few friends (to death), carried grudges (his master was murdered), was very honest and responsible and generous (as long as gems were not at issue), and a perfectionist. I was so proud of him.
