I thought that it was a difficult encounter. we only survived by holding our ground and having our dailies proc at the right time. I've been wanting to like 4e. The last session though seemed like a slog-fest. I was slow to make decisions because of it, and there were several instances when the players were irritated by little rules nuances that we hadn't grasped. Its our third session in and things haven't gone as fast as 3.5. By comparison, we did Sons of Gruumsh...the whole thing, in four sessions, including a huge battle in the courtyard of the keep. Burnt Offerings did not seem this way running it, either.

Nothing yet. Joseph and crew are very tight lipped regarding this matter. It's unconfirmed, but I heard that GG would be able to sell at GenCon but then have to respect the moritorium on 4e 3PP until October after that. {Fellow player looking on one of the 4e boards, maybe WotCs) However, the promo's in the Free RPG day and the GG website contradict that. Any ideas?

It felt that way to me because of all the lore behind all the powerful named denizens both big and small. It ties into a whole story of how the place went bad, and shows how to cleanse it. Kara' is one of the best instances WoW has done IMHO, so from my PoV its a compliment!
Mr. Vaughn, you have outdone yourself. flipped through Skeletons' last night and was blown away. i even laughed maniacally at times thinking what I could put my players through and drooled over the phat lewt (briefly wishing I was a player). Scarwall has a Ravenloft, Tomb of Horrors, and dare I say, Karazhan feel to it. awesome!
Not really understanding the no evil part of the campaign setting. I feel it kicks out a lot of possible choices for players.We'd rather the organized play campaign stay focused on adventuring and exploring Golarion rather than devolving into PVP fights based entirely on choices made because of someone's evil alignment. So no Bellac-like characters? Or would he have fit into the LN category?
Maybe it is a clever marketing strategy?Show of good faith for eventual GSL compliance? Except the content of GG's stuff, even the Free RPG offering, makes sexual and other dark and risque' references (ie prostitution, drug use, dark rites involving sexuality) that would be against the GSL. It's very much implied adult contents even in the preview.
D&D 4e plays like a roleplaying game. It does not play like WoW. I know this first hand because I play both. I play WoW too. All the players I play with play WoW or another MMO. They found 4e gameplay intuitive BECAUSE it played like WoW. I do not think it is a bad thing. I know this is your opinion, but it seems you are in the minority with this one, and that you feel this kind of comment is a crack on 4e, which it is not. I think I like 4e BETTER because of this.
Maybe try some of the Pathfinder (Gamemastery) Modules. I think River into Darkness would work tremendously well with IK, for example. Also, the Falcon's Hollow adventures (a miniAP in and of themselves) would work with easy adaptations, I think. [Hollow's Last Hope, Crown of the Kobolod King, Carnival of Tears, Return of the Kobold King...Haven't seen the Last Baron stuff, but that might work on one of the many disputed borders in IK]
I don't think they do. I did a playtest with a worg and 3 worg pup minions (normal wolves), and 5 first level PCs won. They had some luck, but the at will powers from the spellcasters, and increase in hitpoints saved the day. {CMB made the trip attacks by the wolves soooo much easier to resolve, btw}

Personally, I view the pulp fantasy roots of the game as a feature and not a flaw, and I'm glad that there is an edition of the game for people who don't, because that is not a version of the game I am very interested in publishing. *Cue, Anvil of Crom from the Conan Soundtrack*
Back on topic: to the OP. I have not heard any proof that 4e will be any better at high levels. Combat takes just as long or longer for the same reasons that 3.x does...some players have a hard time figuring out what to do.I'm not a 4e supporter, but 4e does present fewer options. Therefore, it's easier to decide what to do. Not in my experience. The mobs have more hitpoints and move around the battlefield a lot more. From the player's side anyway it does not seem edition specific. In our group its the same players who took forever figuring out what their warblade should do and in 4e what their warlord should do.
We sometimes used a mechanic in 3.X where once you got down to below 75% HP, it was -2 to attacks rolls and similar things; when you went below 50% it was -4, and when you went below 25% it was -6. Was pretty fun if you don't mind a fairly gritty, deadly campaign. Once you were down below 25% HP things continued down hill at an extremely accelerated pace. Haven't seen any penalties like that for 4e. Its either nothing or a "bonus". (ie like the dragonborn bonus). Would a penalty work in 4e, I wonder? in 3.5 I could see maybe orcbloods getting the fury bonus at bloodied. Maybe other crazy, martial-type societies (Valenar Elves?)

Sean brings our editorial staff up to full, actually. And we've hired a customer service person to fill the gap left by Corey (although she doesn't start for a little while yet). The only job openings we have now are in software development and in the warehouse.Still nothing for an archaeologist/curator?? Dammit man, you just aren't trying!! or a molecular biologist...sigh...
Has anyone thought about taking any 4e mechanics to current 3.x games (incl Pathfinder)? Our group (well the other GM and I) have discussed trying to incorporate healing surges. Not so much to overshadow the cleric's potent arsenal, but to allow the cleric to be more martial and not just be a healbot. I was also thinking of getting rid of the 1-2-1 since I know it will cause confusion if we go back and forth between 3e, 4e, HERO (hexes!), etc. I know some of you will say, "Oh noes, he got chocolate in my peanut butter!", but me personally, I love Recess Peanut Butter cups.
I don't know. I guess I have been spoiled by Paizo's quality work. I checked out GG stuff and it and the world seem bland in comparison, but that is just my opinion. However, it does look like GGs quality might be increasing. They do advertise a tactical map in the upcoming 4e offerings. I might like Punjar, but again, after reading it, a lot of the concepts sounded overdone to me. I definitely will give them a try. I do like the zero-lvl thing from Goodman, but I don't know any players who would seriously self-gimp like that from the get go.
to get the new "Dungeon" don't you have to pay for DDI? If so..I'll pass, thanks. I wonder if its easier to convert 2nd edition mod's to 4e since the monsters are also on a different 'build system'. Anyone try? I still have the Night Below boxed set, the sahuagin trilogy, and some FR modules. Also with FR, anyone not advancing the timeline and playing 4e?
so because of no 3PP support we have to wait until August (Goodman) for another module... i like KotS but when we're done...ack.. don't feel like slogging through a quirky conversion. so, have to wait to august to start something...(Known World is kinda meh to me so far though...FR a$$ploded..When's that Eberron book coming out again?)

As someone else posted, Brian R James is not an employee of Goodman, so we wonder if that's also speculation or if he actually has a source. Exactly. They need good PR with the community right now, and advertising/announcing their willingness to make separate agreements would be a positive step, unless neither Goodman nor WotC cares.
Yeah, I got pretty sick of listening to people complain about FR. If you don't like the setting then don't freaking play it!*cough4Ecough* David, are you implying that the designers of 4e didn't like FR, so they blew it up and remade it in their own image? I like the Realms for its myriad of gods and how they take notice a lot in the affairs of mortals. Did they sink Mulhorand in the new FR?
