Macmorr steps away as the nimbus fades. He smiles, but says nothing.
Charge 10' at the stirge on Ghadmyr, using Howling Strike (not that it matters):
1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 1 = 27, damage 1d12 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (1) = 7. My defences are now reduced by 2.
I'll also throw in a Roar of Triumph, which reduces all enemies' defences within close burst 5 by 2.
Macmor reduces one of the stirges to pulp and then howls in triumph at his (minor) victory.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16, damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Pressing Strike: shifting two squares to flank green-dot, and attacking with the benefit of Ynyr's Magic Weapon. 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 24 to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 3 = 16.
Macmorr insinuates himself back in the fray.
Pressing Strike, shifting two so he can get flanking against green-dot with Healaugh before the attack (and winding up flanked buy green-dot and purple-dot, but hey!).
1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17 v AC to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
I'll then blow my AP with Vault the Fallen, attacking purple-dot and green-dot. I can then shift 2, which I shall do, back to where I started.
Attack on green-dot (with flanking): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 = 12 v AC to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 5 + (3) = 18
Attack on purple-dot (without flanking): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 v AC to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + (6) = 18
Macmorr duck out nimbly, axe swinging, before quickly retreating back to his companions.
At the front somewhere - DM's choice.
Initiative = 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Ironic if the elf is the least stealthy in the woods.
Stealth check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Like a feather upon the breeze.
Try and avoid them again?
Athletics - good old-fashioned climbing and jumping.
Macmorr tackles the crater head-on - jumping down and trying to climb out.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
"Yup."
"No problem."
Macmorr flexes his muscles and draws his axe.
Crap - let's leave the bullette and drag the boar out of here.
How about taking its tusks amd tail?
"Wouldn't it be better if Ghadmyr just led them to the bullette. I mean, it's pretty big."
"Right, I've got my breath back, let's go."
Macmorr hefts his axe.
Used three healing surges.
I'm on 1 hp.
"Bloody hell!" Macmorr leans on his axe, exhausted as his rage ends. "Some pig!"
"I HATE THAT THING!"
Move to K28 without provoking AoO, then unleash with a Devastating Strike.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (9) + 5 + (3) = 17
"DIE, DAMMIT!"
OK, the boar will to R-S/26-27 and charge due north at the bullette at O-P/26-27.
Gore 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 31, damage 2d10 + 8 ⇒ (6, 3) + 8 = 17, and if it hits pushes our friend 2 and knocks it prone.
EDIT: Suddenly the dice like me again.
"This pig'll be the death of me."
Move to P27 (avoiding the fire and slick), and then charge the bullette at N27 using Howling Strike instead of a basic attack. I then use my boots of adept charging to shift 1 to M28.
1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 1 = 30 to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + (6) = 18
ALRIGHT! Crit means maximum weapon damage so that's 17+6 = 23 damage. My axe is High Crit and vicious, so that's plus an extra 2d12 ⇒ (3, 12) = 15. And I also get a free melee basic attack as part of my Rampage class feature.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 to hit, damage 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Nice! A total of 52 damage. Heh heh...
"Maybe we should let it go?"
Howling strike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 to hit, damage 1d12 ⇒ 12+5+1d8 ⇒ 6.
Offended by the fact that it is still standing, Macmorr hews at the mutated beast.
This must be the worst fight for dice rolls I have ever been in. I hasn't needed an AC much higer than 15 to avoid me.
It's OK, I was staying where I was anyway.
Time to unleash the beast - hopefully. Swift Panther Rage: 3d12+5 damage (half on a miss) and I get +2 to my movement and can shift 2 as a move action while raging. Here goes nothing....
Attack v AC1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16, damage 3d12 + 5 ⇒ (11, 12, 8) + 5 = 36
EDIT: the gods mock me. Ah well, 18 damage anyway.
Macmoor lets of a feral howl as he attacks but he can't quite get the measure of the mutant beast.
Ah well - so much for my temporary hit points.
Time for a Second Wind, and then get up from prone. That's me done.
I didn't take the surge, as it wouldn't do me any good. Ghadmyr, as the frail elf, can have it instead. Just a flesh wound!
Actually, on reflection, I'll stay where I am.
One to the left, just to be on the safe side.
I'd be on negatives anyway, I think, even if I had the surge (just not so close to death's door) and as everything resets to zero when I get healed it sadly doesn't make much different since it came before the bulette smacked me rather than after. After the majestic word I think I'm on 17hp.
Fabes DM wrote: Macmoor on 4hp Actually my hp total on my sheet is incorrect - I've already taken 19 damage. So I'm unconscious on -15. But alive - for now.
I agree it's unclear in the MM, but in the MM2 and the MM3 it is quite specific that a monster can only spend a single AP per round. You are the DM and it is up to you, I'm just pointing out RAW.
Yup, definitely toast.
EDIT: Wait a minute - did it use two action points in a round? That's not actually in the rules. I mean, I could be dead anyway with the damage I've taken....
Looking at the map, if I do my 2-square shift from the Pressing Strike (shifting 1 on difficult terrain) and get to Q28 and then attack, I can then simply shift 1 to R29 (which isn't difficult terrain) using my move action, which I didn't take anyway in that round. That means that I don't get flanking for my first attack on the bullette with the Pressing Strike (so -2 on both attempts) but I still get flanking for my Devastating Strike at that comes after I get to R29. That way I end up in the same place, and probably with the same result as above anyway, and everyone is happy. OK with you?
"Aaaargh!" The flames lick at the doughty warrior.
Pressing Strike: I shift 2 through the bullette (allowed by the power) to R29 before I strike and attack 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 2 = 13 (I get flanking from the boar) to hit v AC, 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 damage. I also push the bullette 1 square to Q-R/27-28 if I hit. I'm also out of the fire.
Use AP: Devastating Strike: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 = 30 to hit v AC, 1d12 + 5 + 1d8 ⇒ (12) + 5 + (1) = 18 damage. Enemies are now +2 to hit me until my turn.
EDIT: OK, I'm using my Couters of Second Chance which give me a re-roll on the first attack. 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19.
EDIT 2: Hmmmm....
Charge to Q27, use Daring Charge power, 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 1 = 15 v AC, damage 2d12 + 5 ⇒ (7, 10) + 5 = 22.
"DIIIIIIIE!" yells Macmorr as he charges the misshapen bullette creature.
Or maybe not. Ynyr.
Possibly it was.
"You know, I can't help thinking that maybe we should deal with the bulette and then see what the pig does then. Hey, it's a magic pig, what can I say?"
"So great! Now the pig is ordering us around."
My surreptitious take-over of this PbP continues.
As does Macmorr.
Macmorr hefts his axe as Healaugh and Ynyr examine the door.
"Look, nevermind the door. If something comes, I'll kill it. In the meantime, what's that in the jar?"
I'm there, axe in hand.
"At least I'm not lying in a pool of my own vomit, hoping a magic pig won't come and find me, sweetie. So what was this experiment of your late master? What was he trying to do?"
"What, the pig?"
"Strange. Did the pig seem to be looking for something?"
"So the pig strikes again. Any idea where it is?"
"Anyone got a bucket of water?"
"Dead ones?"
