"Oh it is just you lot." You can hear the disdain in his voice, it seems the authorities in Snadpoint are as equally unimpressed by your rag tag group of heroes as the local citizens. With a sigh the guard continues, "You all best be gettin' beyond the wall...in case there be goblins on your trail." A second guard chuckles at the snide remark.
The trek back through the woods and then along the road to Sandpoint is a bit difficult hauling the unconscious wizard and the dead boar with you. Alden spends most of the time concocting ways to take credit for the boars kill as he rambles on about how he led the band of hunters to their victory. Approaching the low stone wall on the north side of town, the sun is already starting to set. A voice calls out from gatehouse. "Hold, who goes there?
Your battered band sits in the sun outside the cave listening to Lord Foxglove tell his tale. Uncertain that the villains have indeed fled, Gillian surveys the tree line. Nothing seems amiss in the shade under the trees, birds are chirping, and the wind lightly pushes some of the branches around. Gillian:
You can see the spot with trampled grass and brush that indicates where your group came into the clearing, on the opposite side headed away from Sandpoint you think you see long leaf broken down which might indicate they way the two fleeing bandits went. Some things are happening in RL that I can't go into at this time, but I am going to be very busy over the next few weeks. It will cause some delays in my posting but I will do the best I can to keep the thread moving and hope to get back to a regular once a week day posting schedule soon.
With caution you return and retrieve the unconscious wizard. It takes a little work to maneuver him through the tight section of the exit corridor but soon you are stepping out into the sun once again. As you emerge you see Lord Foxglove getting to his feet, he staggers a tad unstable and blood is seeping from a wound on his head. "Oh thank the gods you all are alive. I have feared the worst since those two ruffians knocked me on the head and took off into the woods."
Gillian, Vili, and Satinder enter the chamber with Bladric following. The room is void of anything other than the empty chests. A passage leads out of the western wall and turns north heading deeper into the complex. There is a closed door on the southern wall, a sturdy length of wood to secure it from this side is resting against the wall. Zwain remains where the others left him, a near corpse.
The door crashes through to the floor as Gillian plows into it. Behind a short hall leads northward towards another chamber. Gillian can't see all of the room from the doorway, but she can see a large table with several small open chests spread across the top. A larger trunk sized chest sits under the table, also with the lid open.
Satinder Coric wrote: Well I hope I'm not being replaced lol. Give me some time to catch up, and then I'll post. I got a lot of reading to do today lol. NO NO NO we are NOT replacing you. Take your time, you have a lot going on and if you need to take an extended break that is fine, you will always have a space in the game and if you are ready to pick it back up GREAT. I was just worried you might need a break longer than a week or so and if that was the case I thought it would be better to recruit than to have me posting for two of the PC's. Baldric resigned, at first I was not going to replace him but now I think we should even if Satinder is back. But I am okay with just the four players if thats what the group wants. Easier than having to find a new person, but leaves us with out a heavy hitter. How say you all?
Gillian follows the others lead, leaving poor Zwain sprawled out on the makeshift kitchen's floor. At this point I will call and end to combat for the ease of posting, but let's keep the urgency of the half-elf out there in our role-play. Baldric rushes into the room and to the other door only to find it locked from the other side. He immedeatly drops a shoulder and rams into it. STR Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 One of the hinges gives way and the door hangs lopsided but still wedged in the frame blocking the way. It will take another solid it to smash it through completely. Satinder joins him to give it a try, but can't seem to get the footing to provide enough force against the door.
As we are getting close to wrapping up this encounter I wanted to check in with the group about our current situation. With Baldric leaving and Satinder indeterminately out of the action how should we proceed player wise. Both are free to come back to the game anytime they want, but until then should we recruit another player? I think unless I hear other wise I will temporary write them out of the action once we get back to Sandpoint, in a way that we can easily write them back in. I am okay proceeding with three characters, but I am also okay seeking out another player to fill the "warrior" role in the party. If we do that do you want me to put up and open call or do you want to tap some other players you already know. The other option is an NPC that I control, but I think in PBP a longterm NPC is not as good an option, but If you all like that idea better I am okay with doing it. Thoughts?
Gillian rushes back to the others and sees that Vili and Satinder have successfully defeated the bandit's there. End Round 7 Round 8: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian Vili chases after Baldric in pursuit of the archer and finds him battering a bared door with his shoulder. One hinge is already broken free as Baldric throws himself against it again. With a splintering of wood the door breaks free and falls to the floor in another room. Inside are two hastily constructed bunkbeds and another closed door. Satinder follows after Vili encouraging Gillian to come as well. "We can not let her get away." Baldric STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Vili dashes into the next room avoiding the bandit's short blade as he maneuvers to use his spear, however his attempt to stab the bandit is again unless. From the norther hall come another loud thud and the the warrior's curses. Satinder leaps back after the bandit and stabs the bandit in the gut. Blood spills as the man drops his bald and collapse back against the door and then slumps the the floor. Round 7: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian
AoO vs Villi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Vili eases back and attempts to set the bandit off balance, but it seems his grip on the spear isn't tight enough to keep the weapon in a place to be effective in his efforts. Those of you in the room can hear the smashing of wood. Satinder draws back another step and swings his blade again landing a solid blow. The bleeding Bandit turns to make his escape. Villi weakly pokes at the air where the bandit once stood as he disappear around the corner of the door way. Baldric STR Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Round 6: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian
Blake give the halfling a look indicating he needs to at least hold up for a moment. "Some of us need the aid of that wand before we can continue this now fools errand." He presents himself before Ethan so that he can partake in some of the the magical healing. Once everyone is ready he nods at Runk again, this time in the affirmative. "Fools we are, on with it."
Sorry to hear you transition has hit some difficult bumps. When you say "some time" do you mean you need to step away from the game for awhile, or should I just keep DM PCing you? If you needed an extended break that is cool, you will always have a place in our game. If you just need another week or so I'll gladly keep posting for you. Just let me know what will work best for you.
Vili makes another weak attempt to stab the bandit with his spear then sidesteps to allow for Satinder to retreat. Baldric takes off down the passage. Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 A crashing sound echo's back into the room as if he ran shoulder first into a solid door. In pain Satinder also offers a feeble attack as he withdraws a few steps, trying to get away from the bandit in the door way. Satinder Attack roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Seeing his opponent on the run the bandit smiles and presses forward but Satinder dodges the swing of his short blade. Bandit Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Round 5: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian Sorry Zwain, I hope we can get you back into the action soon.
Gillian quietly ascends a low set of natural stairs in the cave floor and enters a wider section of the passage. She doesn't see or hear anything, and the passage ahead bends to the right blocking her view. Back in the room, Baldric says from the open door, "I think I heard another door close." Round 5: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian
Vili moves to offer support to Satinder, his spear pokes past the other warrior but fails to find a target on the other side of the door. Baldric recovers from his stumble and rushes to the door flinging it open. Beyond it is a narrow winding hallway. Satinder continues to slash his blade at the bandit in front of him.
The bandit grins as he parries the blow with his shorter blade and returns the thrust. The bandit takes advantage of Satinder's extended arms and cuts him deep.
Round 4: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain (stable but unconscious; -3 hp), Gillian
No worries I'll take over Baldric and write him out o the story in a way that we can bring him back someday. I hope that will be the case. I send you a PM once that happens just so you know. Until then if there is anything I can do for you please let me know. Good luck with the move Satinder we will see you soon. I will post for you only to keep us going if needed. Perhaps you can keep up via twitter, with the bird and all. :P. I know, bad joke, sorry I couldn't resist.
Sorry to hear this news, I pray that all will work out for the best. I understand the need to step away, but know you are always welcome to join back up with us in the future. If you want to finish up this side quest you are welcome to, but I can always take over and NPC Baldric until we get back to town if that helps you. At this time I don't think we need to replace Baldric, we have four characters and all the "roles" are still covered. The AP's are geared for four so the balance should still be okay.
Opening or closing a door and 5' steps do not provoke AoO; The S on the map is indeed a regular door. Vili's magic clots the blood seeping out of Zwain, before he moves deeper into the room. Baldric drops off the table attempting to get to the door, but scattered plate forces him to stumble and instead of making to open the door he regains his balance. (Baldric is standing in AA34) Acrobatics DC 10: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Satinder chases after the bandit, but is unable to strike him down. There is another long room beyond the makeshift kitchen and Satinder sees another door. (The S marked on the map is also a regular door) The Bandit pulls a short sword from his belt and slashes at Satinder but is also unable to strike his foe. Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Gillian exits the room heading back towards the fork in the passage way where everything seems quiet. Round 4: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain, Gillian
Zwain continues to lose blood as Gillian retorts with the half-elf and fails to shoot her with an arrow. Round 3: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain, Gillian The half elf offers a quirky smile, "You win some, you lose some." With that she reaches back and pushes open the door, takes a step through and then slams the door back closed right after giving Gillian a wink.
Vili pulls the dying mage behind the table. Baldric takes a daring move and puts climbs up onto the table. It is an old wobbly table, none too sturdy, and has several plates, tankards, and serving dishes scattered upon each filled with various amounts of the bandits mid day meal. Acrobatics DC:10: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 The dishes are knocked about as Baldric maintains his footing and attacks, landing a viscous blow on the woman. Satinder swings his blades, the bandit avoids the longsword but in doing so leaves a vital area open. Satinder takes advantage and sinks his short blade in deep. The man gurgles and spits blood as he sinks to the ground dying. In the corner the last man standing reaches and flings the door open. Darting through he attempts to flee the fight. Acrobatic DC: 17 (avoid AoO): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Baldric tries takes advantage as the bandit turns his back, but his unsteady stance causes the attack to go high. AoO: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Round 2: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain, Gillian
Zwain and Gillian move into the chamber, the first casting a spell as the second ready her bow. The half elf moves towards the door in the northern wall of the room and takes a shot at with her composite bow at Zwain. I know I posted prior it was a crossbow, that was my error it was supposed to be a composite bow and I just typed the wrong thing. Sorry The arrow streaks across the room and impales the spell caster above the heart. -3 hp OUCH She glares at the rest of you, "Surrender and the rest of you shall live!" Half Elf vs Zwain: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Critical ?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Damage: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (3, 7) + 2 = 12 Round 2: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain, Gillian

I forgot to add the -4 for cover so that makes his roll a 13 and it is still a hit. According to the PRD you are to far away to apply the firing into melee penalty. So it will still be a hit, and you have the entangled condition and are at half movement speed since you succeed in the save. PRD wrote: If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character.
Satinder Coric wrote: Quick question... I noticed on the map update that I've apparently taken damage. I just went through the last two encounters, and I haven't been successfully hit. When did I take damage? You were hit for 8 points of damage in the first round with the boar. Post Date Feb 9 at 8:44 which is on pages five. Vili then healed 4 points back with a cure light wounds. Post Date Feb 17 at 8:55 on page six. So I have you at 7 hp currently.
Vili presses into the room, but instead of charging to attack, takes a position blocking the southern exit of the room. He guards a short hallway that ends at a closed door. Baldric follows him into the room, dashes between the two tables and with a great thrust of his ranseur, easily cuts down one of the men. Blood sprays from his fatal wound as he falls to the floor. Satinder dashes past Baldric straight into the fray, slashing at another of the Varisian men and striking him in the arm. The wounded man keeps his guard up and stabs at Satinder with a short bladed sword but the table between them makes the thrust useless. The other man steps back to get out of the reach of Baldric's deadly weapon and tosses a small sack at the warrior. It hits Baldric and bursts, covering him in a sticky goo of tar and resin. Man 1 vs Satinder: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 4 = 0
Round 1: Half-elf, Vili, Baldric, Satinder, Bandits, Zwain, Gillian
It's always best to hold off on PC actions unto after I recap and make the enemie actions. Satinder, it is verily likely that Baldric will kill the one you ate attack on would you like to change actions? Weekends are tough for me to post during and this weekend my wife and I are both working with families who have funerals early next week. I will try to get something up later tonight but it might be Monday before I have a chance to.
Satinder heads down the western passage towards the lighted room. The light comes from two lanterns set on simple wooden tables in the chamber currently being used as a make shift kitchen and dining area. Crouched at the end of the rooms southern table is a Varisian man. Two more and a half elf woman are using the northern table, also crouched for cover. The half elf fires her crossbow at Satinder and shouts, "Get em!" But the bolt scrapes across the table and clanks into a pewter tankard, spilling it and the ale it contained to the floor. Attack vs Satinder: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 Everyone is aware so no Surprise Round
New Map
Initiative Rolls: Bandits: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Half Elf: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 Satinder: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Baldric: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Vili: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 Zwain: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Gillian: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
As Vili tends to Baldric's wounds, Satinder pokes around the chambers looking for signs of activity beyond the boar. Inside the lair are only the remains of meals, and the bedding of the exceptionally large boar. After a quick discussion it is agreed to scout deeper into the caverns and investigate who might be using them other than the natural fauna. Satinder takes the lead and everyone falls in line as he goes northward. The natural cave branches around a large pillar and the main passage splits into two directions. Northward Satinder's exceptional sight pick out a naturally formed set of stairs ascending about ten feet. To the west the tunnel takes a southern slant towards a camber from which light escapes.
Zwain takes an insane swipe at the boar, but fails to connect a solid blow. Baldric, edges over and smashes the hammer on the boars head with a crack that sounds like thunder. The boars head splits open and the body drops to the cavern floor. END COMBAT Sorry I forgot to move Vili on the map update, I would fix it but the boar is dead dead, so no need. The chamber is several natural out cropping, filled with evidence an animal lived here.
Yes this would be firing into combat Gillian lets an arrow fly, it streaks towards the boar in route to strike it in the head but at the last second the creature moves in such away that the arrow bounces harmlessly off its tusk clattering to the floor. Despite the disappointment of such a near strike, she doesn't falter in her inspiring song. Round 4 Order: Satinder, boar, Gillian, Zwain, Baldric, Vili
Satinder swings his blades but is not fast enough to catch the boar before it advances quickly on Baldric. It swings its large head at the warrior who lucky side steps the attack this time. boar vs Baldric: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Round 4 Order: Satinder, boar, Gillian, Zwain, Baldric, Vili
Gillian keeps her tune of inspiration filling the air as she pulls out her bow and maneuvers closer to the fight. Zwain bravely advances on the boar and takes a swing at it with his staff. The creature is too quick for him and avoids the wizard easily. Baldric steps back to gain a better vantage point and get closer to the healer. Blood gushes to the floor as his blade cuts deep into the boars flank again. Vili lays a hand on Baldric infusing him with a slight touch of healing power. I am assuming that Gillian want to keep the Inspire going, if not to save uses please adjust accordingly; Zwains spell last round was a miss, just tried to describe it in a cool way, sorry if that was confusing. Round 4 Order: Satinder, boar, Gillian, Zwain, Baldric, Vili
Satinder swings his blades, but is slightly off balance due to an uneven pocket in the caverns natural floor causing his attack to strike only the air above the beast. The boar, bellowing in pain, bolts towards Baldric and thrusts its tusks to impale the warrior with a vicious blow. 5' step
Round 3 Order: Satinder, boar, Villi, Gillian, Zwain, Baldric
Gillian keeps her encouraging tune going as she squeezes through the tight passage. Zwain moves forward and flings a glob of acid at the boar, but the splatter is too fine to hurt the creature. Baldric moves to protect the wizard and after putting his short sword away attacks the boar with a flourish of his guisarme. The blow leaves a deep cut on the creatures back and blood splatters on the floor. I made a slight adjustment to Zwian's movement to accommodate Baldric's move also End of Round Round 3 Order: Satinder, boar, Villi, Gillian, Zwain, Baldric
