Witch Features:
Witch Proficiencies: Witches are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield. Armor interferes with a witch's gestures, which can cause her spells with somatic components to fail.

Hexes:

Cackle (Su): A witch can cackle madly as a move action.
Any creature that is within 30 feet that is under the effects
of an agony hex, charm hex, evil eye hex, fortune hex, or
misfortune hex caused by the witch has the duration of
that hex extended by 1 round.

Evil Eye (Su): The witch can cause doubt to creep into
the mind of a foe within 30 feet that she can see. The
target takes a –2 penalty on one of the following (witch’s
choice): AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws,
or skill checks. This hex lasts for a number of rounds
equal to 3 + the witch’s Intelligence modifier. A Will save
reduces this to just 1 round. This is a mind-affecting
effect. At 8th level the penalty increases to –4.

Slumber (Su): A witch can cause a creature within 30 feet
to fall into a deep, magical sleep, as per the spell sleep. The
creature receives a Will save to negate the effect. If the
save fails, the creature falls asleep for a number of rounds
equal to the witch’s level. This hex can affect a creature
of any HD. The creature will not wake due to noise or
light, but others can rouse it with a standard action.

Appearance and Personality: Garvok is a tall, pale man with slicked back ebony hair. He generally wears all black, including a black cloak, and a wide brimmed black hat. What few splashes of color he does wear are a goldish yellow, and generally display his devotion to Calistria. Garvok is generally a friendly enough person, unless given reason to treat someone otherwise. Garvok is however a mortal representative of the goddess of revenge, and he does not forget slights against him, nor does he forgive them.

Background:
Born and raised in a small shack along the shores of the Lake of Mists and Veils, Garvok came into this world the son of a fisherman and his wife. Garvok’s childhood was not a happy one. His father was a poor fisherman, though if this was simply because of a lack of skill on his part, or because he was perpetually drunk, Garvok never could tell. What Garvok did know is that when his father didn’t manage to catch a fish in his nets in his drunken stupor he got angry, and when he got angry he would take it out on Garvok’s mother with savage beatings. Garvok and his mother’s only saving grace was that his father’s fishing trips took him away for days at a time, leaving them time to recover between abuses.

Once he was old enough (around twelve) Garvok frequently went into the nearby city of Port Ice to beg borrow or steal what he and his family needed to survive. He fell in with a group of street urchins and pickpockets known as The Lake Shadows. And while Garvok had no real skill at picking pockets, what he was good at was talking to people. As such when a mark needed distracting, a bully needed dissuading, or the Shadows needed inspiring Garvok was the one to do it. It didn’t take long for Garvok’s way with words to earn him leadership of the Lake Shadows.

Unfortunately the money brought in by half a dozen adolescent cut purses was hardly enough to keep the group of orphans fed and warm. Garvok couldn’t bring himself to take money from the Shadows knowing that his father would most likely take most of it anyway to fuel his drinking habit. Garvok needed to find another source of income. The boy found it at a small brothel which doubled as church of Calistria. There he acted as a go between the many sacred prostitutes, whores and the headmistress of the brothel Madame Lisara Besrati.

Garvok fell in love with Calistria soon after reading her scripture. Even excluding all the implied sexual benefits the religion offered, its overarching themes of knowledge, revenge and fulfillment of your greatest desires was impossible for the young boy to resist. By the time he was fifteen Garvok had joined the ranks of the sacred prostitutes, and earning more than enough to support his family. Well, it would have been more than enough, if he had taken the money back to his parents. But Garvok was young, in possession of more money than most non noble young adults, and dedicated to a religion of self fulfillment. What Garvok was not however, was stupid. He saved what money he could, and made sure his mother had a hot meal every night and medicine when she was sick. He just saw no reason his rightly earned money should fund his fathers vices when it could just as easily fund his own.

By the time he was seventeen Garvok had finally saved up enough to get a place of his own, and the first thing he did was go to get his mother to take her away from his father. When he got to his parents home he found that his father returned, and in his usual drunken state had beaten his mother. Something was different this time however, Garvok’s mother had finally snapped and fought back. There was evidence of a fight in the shack he was raised in. His mother lay there, literally beaten to death with his father laying not five feet from her cold body passed out and snoring loudly. Everything just sort of went white after that, and when he could think clearly again he was sitting on a hill, watching the only home he had ever known go up in flames, and listening to his father scream as he burned.

Garvok realized soon after what the subject of his holy lust would be. Power. Power enough to protect the people he cared for, and to make sure he'd never live in fear of another man ever again. Calistria, or more likely some otherworldly being working for the sacred sting heard Garvok’s heart sing out for his desire and granted his wish. To start him on his path a thrush named Asheial was sent by Garvok’s otherworldly patron to tutor Garvok and tech him the ways of magic.

Upon his return to town Garvok purchased the home he had planned for his mother and himself to live in. As there was no chance of that happening now he gave the house to the Lake Shadows and used the last of his savings to go travel to Absalom and complete his training to become a priest of Calistria. The training was simple and Garvok’s time served with Madame Besrati added greatly to the speed of his progress. Within a year Garvok was ordained, and out the door back to Brevoy intending to open a new church as a first step on his way to power.

Not long after setting foot in his homeland Asheial brought Garvok a parchment which said the king was requesting explorers for the Stolen Lands. Garvok took the parchment as a sign from Calistria, and set off to sign up. And while he failed to see how wandering around in the wilderness would lead to power neither his thrush nor his goddess had led him astray yet.

People of note

Friends:

Madame Lisara Besrati F, Elf- Elven Matron of the Amber Room, a small brothel/church of Calistria in Port Ice. Early employer, and mentor to Garvok.

Lily F, Human- Garvok's number two in the Lake Shadows, and their de facto leader while he's been away.

Enemies:

Gil Grimm M, Human - Guardsman who the Lake Shadows have constantly made a fool of. Garvok has been able to keep Grimm's heat off of the Shadows, but the guard knows Garvok, he knows Garvok has made a fool of him on more than one occasion, and he would gladly jump at the chance to even the score.
