I wonder why the goblins are so restless of late. Is something disturbing their homeland? Maybe one of these captives can tell us." "Madam!" Hans grins proudly. "Your fighting prowess is surpassed only by your beauty! Am I correct in supposing that you are also a nature-lover like myself?" Switching to the secret language of druids, he adds:

"Any word from my brothers and sisters in this forest? I am a stranger here and I would welcome any news." Nightwish wrote:
Hans stays about 100' away, preferably keeping the bear between him and the hound. Hans sneaks up to the melee between the bear and the hound and lets out a low whistle. "I don't want to get close to that donnybrook, no sirree! But maybe I can even the odds a little bit for our furry friend." He draws one of his lucky sticks from his belt, speaks a word of magic, and sends three mystical bolts plunging into the giant hound's flank. "Enchanted to meet you, pretty lady!" Hans bows, but does not remove his hat or dismount. "My name is Hans, or Hans the Lucky, or Lucky Hans -- as you wish. I can aid the wounded, too; my lucky stick will cure what ails you!" He gestures to one of the twigs tucked into his belt. He cocks his head. "Hmmm. I think I still hear noises over yonder. Are there more trouble-makers hereabouts?" So is the fight still going on elsewhere? Nightwish wrote: Do you want to save those actions until just before you reach the forest battle, so that those spells (or item effects) will already be up-and-running when you reach that battle? That way, you won't have to spend your first round in the new combat to cast those spells. Hans still casts Produce Flame -- it sounds like there are more bad guys afoot! He hollers, "Leave that junk here, Claret -- it isn't gonna grow legs and run away while we deal with the rest of these mischief-makers!" and begins galloping towards the donnybrook on his mangy wolf. Nightwish wrote: Instead of switching out the feats, I'll let you have it for free. In order to encourage everyone to make the best use of their hometown heritage for their character backgrounds, I'll let each character take the feat that is associated with their nation or region as a free feat. If anyone does not have the Campaign Setting book, just let me know what region you hail from, and I'll put up a description of that region's feat. Neat! I don't have the book in front of me at the moment, but I think the one from Ustalav has to do with vampire/undead hunting. Amie wrote: Actually I should have said Summon Companion, which is the same thing as Summon Natures Ally. Clerics with the Animal Domain have that power. My mistake, I was just reading too much and except for when you told Summon Companion IS Summon Natures Ally, its mostly called Summon Natures Ally and I went into auto typing. Gotcha. However, if you check the wording of the Animal Domain power, it can only summon animals, not elementals, etc. Nightwish wrote: Talk is free, though, so you can warn them what you're about to do, if you like, and that they'll need to not move any closer to the edge of the forest (or rather, not move even with or north of the two that are still in the open) if they want to avoid the entanglement. Hans will just wait for everyone else to move and then plop it down wherever it seems it'd do the most good. He ain't fussy. :-) 2nd round
Meanwhile, Hans begins whistling again and the plants of the forest start to wrap themselves among any nearby hobgoblins. Cast Entangle to try to snag any hobgoblins on the move, avoiding any allies if possible. "(Hee hee!) Watch out you gobbos, the cavalry is here!" Mangy the wolf takes a well-deserved breather while Hans lets out a piercing whistle, followed by some squawking and horse noises: "KRAWW whinny neigh BRAWWK snort KRAWW EEEEE!" A winged creature begins diving out of the clouds, growing larger by the moment. Convert Resist Energy to begin casting Summon Nature's Ally II to call up a hippogriff. (Note Hans has the Augment Summoning feat.) Coraline 'Claret' Chandrila wrote: “Woof ?” Hans lets out a low whistle. "What a beauty! Are you an animal lover, too? You should hear my collection of beast calls. Speaking of which, I'd rather not walk all the way to the Fangwood when I could ride! Let me see if I can whistle up a friend to help me." Hans steps outside, clears his throat again, and says: "OWwWooOoOO! Ruff BARK BARK aWrRRROooOwooo!" In a trice, a shape comes slinking from behind a nearby hut -- a she-wolf, strong, but with a touch of mange. Hans smiles welcomingly and beckons even as a woman squeaks with fright and pulls her children off the street. "Hullo, there! Come to give me a ride, have you?" Hans says as he scrambles onto the back of the wolf. Use Animal Domain power to summon a wolf and ride it. "I fancy a trip to the Fangwood would be quite entertaining with such lovely companions as you two ladies -- and you're lovely in your own way too, Ye Dragon-man; I don't want you to feel left out. Everything I own is on my back, so we can leave right away, as far as I'm concerned!" The little man's enthusiasm is infectious as his mind races at the thought of a mini-adventure. Hans chirps: "Let me show you a little trick I learned from my old buddy Jez the grig. Now watch closely..." He reaches out and tries to give Sevengy a pinch on the knee. Hans will use his Laughing Touch on Sevengy. He rolled a 1d20+3=7 on his touch attack, so she can easily dance out of the way, if she likes. Diego Dellarillos wrote: "Sorry, mate, not my cousin, if that's your concern. I think you're well clear on this one. And if I'm the strangest thing you've seen, stick around! I'm sure there are bound to be odder gits than I to be seen!" "Indeed, I'm sure. My name is Hans, by the way. Some folk call me Lucky Hans, and indeed I feel lucky to be in the company of such beautiful ladies as I see before me." He bows graciously, but holds his lucky hat squarely on his head with one hand. "What is the news around these parts? The birds of the air seem concerned, but are their concerns the same as the local folk hereabouts, I wonder?" Hans will make a Diplomacy check to gather information, if it helps. Nightwish wrote: Without resorting to a Speak With Animals spell, you have difficulty getting any really specific information from your feathered friends. Sorry...I meant to say that he was speaking to the birds via Speak With Animals; he doesn't just stand there, squawking like a loony! Hans saunters in and peeks over the bar on his tiptoes. "Hoy, bartender! Give me a pint of ale, if you please!" After paying, he saunters over to the scaly gentleman and lets out a low whistle. "Friend, I've seen a lot of strange things, but I've never seen anyone quite like you." Pointing to his kelly green breastplate of dragon scales, he adds: "I sincerely hope that this armour isn't made from your Granny's backside. An elvish armourer whanged it together as a souvenir of a little adventure we had in the forests of Andoran. The colour's a bit different, so I suspect I'm in the clear, am I not?" Hans sniffs the morning air noisily. "Ah...looks like it's going to be a fine day today! Maybe I'll ask the birds what news they have for us ground-lubbers. I hope they've seen some lovely ladies around these parts. (Hee hee!)" He tilts his head back, clears his throat and says:
The tale of Lucky Hans: As a young boy, Hans lived alone with his father Josef on the outskirts of a forest in the far-away country of Ustalav. His mother died when he was just a baby, but his father (a poor but honest woodcutter) raised him the best way he knew how. But as the years went by, his father grew tired and lonely and looked for a new wife. One night, a beautiful young woman caught his eye and he fell under her spell immediately. Soon the two were married. But Hans didn't like his new stepmother; she never went out during the day, and he saw his father growing weaker and weaker before his very eyes. His stepmother hated Hans as well, and finally one night she ordered Hans's father to take him out and kill him. The weak old man didn't dare to disobey his wife, but he didn't have the heart to kill his own son, so instead he led him out into the haunted wood and left him there to die. Luckily, some kind sprites discovered the young boy and took pity on him. They raised him as one of their own, teaching him a few simple magic tricks and the secrets of talking with animals. When he turned 16, he heard the sad news that his father had died and his stepmother had disappeared without a trace. With no family left to hold him to Ustalav, he grew restless and declared his intent to see the world. The fey bid him a tearful farewell, and he has been travelling Golarion ever since.
