10 Minute Background:

Step 1: Write at least 5 concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind.

1. Seemingly Normal Upbringing: By all accounts, Lucina had a boring childhood. She had a father with a boring, but stable job. She had a mother who nagged her about cleaning her room. She never had to worry about food being put on the table or danger in the neighborhood. She never had the pressure of wealth or status. Still, her mind was always trouble and she always felt in her heart that there was something wrong with herself, her life and the world as a whole.
2. Broody and Socially Awkward: Lucina was a quiet child, an angsty teen and has now become a rather broody adult. Because she has always struggled with social interactions, most people find her more than a bit strange and sometimes a bit uncomfortable to be around.
3. Smarter Than She Seems: Many people assume that Lucina is a bit dimwitted when they first meet her. She often takes a long time considering even simple questions, interacts poorly with other people and didn’t show an interest in most subjects in school. However, she is actually highly perceptive and pretty smart. She is a good student of the subjects that interest her. She is also quite skilled reading people. She just lacks the social skills to respond properly.
4. Overly Philosophical: Lucina’s mind has always been plagued by doubt and darkness. In an effort to better understand to world she has developed a fascination for philosophy. As a result, she has a bad habit of considering and analyzing things to the point of navel gazing.
5. Interested in the Dark and Strange: Other than philosophy, Lucina has always been interesting in all things dark, aberrant and bizarre. In particular she has always been fascinated with the Daelkyr and their dark schemes. Lucina does not have any diabolical plans of her own and is not even really a violent person. Still, most people, including her parents, find her “hobbies” a rather concerning.

Step 2: List at least 2 goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

1. Character Goal: In the last couple of years, Lucina has decided that she should use all her knowledge to protect the world against the dark forces that threaten it. This epiphany is partially due to her discovery of the druidic organization known as the Gatekeepers. More than anything, Lucina would like to be initiated into the Gatekeepers. However, she is worried that they will never accept her, due to her questionable interests and some rather serious skeletons in her closet.
2. Player Goal: Lucina is a rather misunderstood soul who is just trying make sense of the world in her own awkward way. She claims she just doesn’t like people that much. However, I would like to see if she can get out of her own head and create some real bonds.

Step 3: : List at least 2 secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.

1. Lucina’s Secret: Once Lucina finished school, she was desperate to get out of her home town and see the world. Preferring the wilderness to the city, she made for the Eldeen Reaches. It was there that she found the Children of the Winter. At first she liked what she heard. The cult leader was charismatic and many of the things he said made sense to her. That life was a struggle. That death is an unavoidable part of life. However, once she got deeper into the cult she quickly got a wake up call. When they tried to recruit her into a mission that involved creating a plague outbreak in a nearby town, she was hit pretty hard with the realization that her new “friends” were not good people. She quickly and not so tidily removed herself from the situation. It still haunts her to this day that she was so easily lured into something so horrible.
2. What Lucina Doesn’t Know: Lucina has always had intuition that something about her life was not quite right, but has never figured what it was, leading to much angst and soul searching. What she doesn’t realize is that her totally ordinary mother is anything but ordinary. She is a spy and a Daelkyr half-blood. Lucina’s father is aware of his wife’s true race, but helps her hide it so that she does not face persecution. However, he is not aware of his wife’s true motives. While Lucina’s is genetically mostly like her father and therefore has not figured out her true heritage, Daelkyr influences in her blood have likely encouraged her dark obsessions and interest in their kind.

Step 4: Describe at least 3 people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

1. Hal Mandragus (Father): Decent, hardworking man that cares about his family, but is a bit dull and rather prone to rambling and dad jokes. Her relationship with her father is better than it is with most people. Unlike her mother, Hal is tolerant of his daughter’s strange ways and doesn’t try to change her. They don’t talk a lot, but Lucina likes that he doesn’t try to force her is conversation.
2. Katherine Mandragus (Mother): Lucina’s relationship with her mother is a little more complicated than her relationship with her father. Her mother is constantly trying to get Lucina to act more normal and clearly gets frustrated by her odd behavior. Secretly this is because she doesn’t want attention brought to the family or for her daughter to be implicated if she is ever discovered.
3. The Children of Winter: Lucina formed a few relationships during her time in the cult. However, when she abruptly cut ties, she ended up on bad times with all of them. Now she works against everything the cult stands for and they are well aware of it.

Step 5: Describe at least 3 mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavour.

1. She is slow to speak and generally uses few words, but still manages to confuse the hell out of people half the time with her navel gazing mumbo jumbo.
2. She is a night owl. She tends to be irritable early in the morning, but will stay up to all hours of the night without complaint.
3. Because her name translates to light, but she tends to be broody and always wear dark clothing, her father teasingly calls her sunshine. This has become a common nickname that many family friends, relatives, former classmates/teachers use for her. She tolerates it from her father, but HATES it when anyone else does it.
