Wait - I just found out there is a huge multinational money grab conspiracy happening soon! Year 2007 has been working just fine for me. Now I hear that version 2008 is coming out and I will have to buy all new calendars and organizers. Don't they realize how angry that will make some people. Why can't we just keep 2007 and add a few house rules? I guess I will just stick with 2007 as long as I can. I have not even seen 2008 yet, but I can only speculate that it will render all my 2007 info useless. (Very much tougue in cheek) Happy New Year everyone!
Order placed on 11/14 - Still pending...? Can you give me a rough idea of when this order might ship? I've been told "as soon as possible" about a week ago. Is everything now in Paizo's warehouse, or are you still waiting for any items to arrive at Paizo? Several items were cancelled and/or moved to other orders, so I thought it was all set to ship earlier this week. Probably just working its way to the top of your backlog, but it was also one of the first orders to be placed when the sale started. Just excited to get this stuff "as soon as possible". Thanks!
In the Pacific northwest there is a tv show called "Evening Magazine" that features area people, places, and things. Last night they had a feature on the guy who designed Vic and Lisa's Star Wars home theater. It was cool to see our Paizoian's Vic and Lisa. Now if I can just them to adopt me...:-) Hope Vic and Lisa got to see the episode. Sorry I did not know about it sooner to let people know - I just stumbled upon it. I don't see this as "greed". They just want to keep it simple. Too many options - too many headaches to deal with. I have thought about this a lot. If Paizo would prefer that folks like me (who don't want item cards) simply don't subscribe to begin with - I will accept that and cancel my subscription before it ever starts. I am not going to play games with starting and stopping a subscription. That is a pain for both parties. I will continue to hope for a different option to appear before February. But at the same time, I respect Paizo's current decision. I am currently a Chronicles Subscriber (starting after the first item cards). So if there is not going to be a "skip this item" option for the item cards, or a separate "no item cards" type of subscription, can we get an easy button for "unsubscribe/subscribe"? A "skip this item" that has to be selected by the customer many months before it ships would not mess with your production quantities - you would have your estimate prior to sending it out to print. You can even have a deadline on the item, 'opt out before month/date/year' otherwise it will be included in your ongoing subscription. A number of folks unsubscribing right before your item cards ship - now that ~will~ mess with your print estimates. This sounds like I am joking about the easy button, but I am serious. At this time, I do plan to cancel my Chronicles subscription before the next item cards. I may or may not sign up again after those the item cards. It will all depend on how this issue evolves. I don't want to come and go as a subscriber (and annoy Cosmo) but I also don't want to commit to a subscription that includes item cards. I just want the books/maps and the pdf's that go along with them. Another completely separate way to handle this is not a subscription, but simply "get the free pdf with any ~Preordered~ Chronicles books/maps" Again you can have a cutoff date so you have firm numbers before you start your printing. Just food for thought...
Cool! I have subscribed. (Skipping the RotRL item cards though.) FYI - I am still hoping there is a way to opt out of the future item cards. Other than cancelling my subscription before the future item cards come up, and then re-subscribing afterwards, is there any hope for this as an option...? They just are not my thing. Hi Cosmo, I have a number of pending orders (I could not help myself, the sale items just kept pulling on my credit card...and I failed my will save!) Feel free to combine any of those pending orders and/or move the various "currently unavailable" items into a separate order so the rest can ship out. Thanks!

I would be interested in hearing where Paizo plans to go with the next few adventure paths? Continue dark horror/gore for all Pathfinder APs?
For me, I like a mix. Too much of any one gets tedious after a while. I am not a big horror fan, but I like a good story and plotline - in any context. I do think horror/gore will please some folks and turn off others. Paizo knows that too. They will be weighing the comments, so keep on discussing your impressions so far... From DM Jeff
Further thought on DM jeff's idea - since the GameMastery modules already have more flexibility than Pathfinder - would it be feasible to try 3.5 versions AND 4.0 versions of the same module (separate publications)? Let your customers decide which one they want to buy. If sales start to drop off for the 3.5 version and 4.0 versions pick up, you might then decide to switch to 4e for Pathfinder. At the end of 2008? I will still likely be playing 3.5. I plan to give 4e a look when it comes out. But I don't plan on runing any immediate games using 4e. So I would be fine with Pathfinder staying 3.5 for a while, expecially if the 4e OGL is only shared at the last minute. (Feels like WotC is running behind schedule - moved back the release date of the player's handbook. It also feels like maybe they will not be sharing an OGL like they did with 3.5...) Erik - I will be continuing my subscription either way. I think WotC does not want ANY 3rd party competition at the lunch of 4e. IF they do decide to release a 4e OGL I think it will be after GenCon. If that holds true, I can see Paizo continuing with 3.5 for Pathfinder until they see a copy of the OGL and have a chance to integrate it into their publishing schedule. I am guessing that might be another year after 4e releases... I will not be dropping 3.5 the second 4e comes out. I will be waiting to see how other people like it before spending time beta testing 4e. Bottom line - Paizo seems to treat the game the way I want to see it treated. Once the 4e rules are out there, if Paizo decides to adopt them, I have a feeling I will like what they do with them. If on the other hand, Pazio sees the new rules and does not think they feel like the D&D we currently know, and decides to stick with 3.5 for the foreseeable future, I have a feeling that will be my reaction to the new rules too. c.) Our 7 person group is playing in a long 3.5 campaign. We have talked about taking a look at the new 4e material to see if there are some good elements to bring into our 3.5 game. If it is too much of a change (impossible to mix with 3.5) we will likely stay in 3.5 for a while so the bugs can get worked out of 4e before we even try it. But since we don't know much about 4e yet, it is way too early to commit to a changeover at any specific date. I would love to see 3.5 Pathfinder material continue for a transition period, maybe 12 months or so after the 3 core 4e books are released. Give 4e a little time to see how it plays out before Paizo thinks about switching the adventure path over to 4e. (Others will want Paizo to switch immediately - I don't know how you please both groups and still make a profit...?) I think the GameMastery modules would be a better place for Paizo to experiment with 4e initially. Since they are one and done modules - I would be much more likely to try 4e early on with a module, than I would with an ongoing adventure path. Learning a new system makes for some really awkward games for a while, but then you eventually get the hang of it and off you go. Fake Healer wrote:

If I were WotC - I would launch the Character Generator as a free item today. Get folks excited about an easy way to create and update your characters in 3.5. Then they can slowly transition to an option for 3.5 or 4e character generators. After that they can transition to charging you a fee to maintain your 4e character. If folks realy like the online feature, they are more likely to want to pay for the service. Call me jaded - but the timing of WotC's 4E announcement at Gen Con when Paizo is launching Pathfinder just seems nasty and not coincidental. I know the Paizo folks say that Paizo & WotC are still on friendly terms, but...It seems to me that 2007 Gen Con would be buzzing with Paizo/Pathfinder enthusiasm for some very cool new products. (Hopefully it still will be.) But now I think the 4E talk is going to damper the 3.5 products. Seems like WotC wants to make sure buyers have that "3.5 is going to be obsolete" feeling going into the Pathfinder launch. Probably all coincidental, but it seems calculated from my point of view. James, Whatever format ends up printed in the magazine - is there a possibility for posting a sortable version online here? Then users can click on column headings and have it sort within your list (by author, date, levels, setting, title, etc.) The hard work is assembling the data, being able to sort the data after that should be fairly straight-forward. So glad to hear you are including this in #150! -Lori
